hmm. thinking about how casifer's mocking "cas" in hell's angel was misha improvising. thinking about dean's reaction to this line

and how technically it was a jensen reaction since the line wasn't scripted and yet. and YET. it's not jensen it's dean. they kept it in and so it is dean. and it's SO interesting because this moment is such a microcosm of the overall destiel experience because this was NOT supposed to happen dean was NOT supposed to be confronted with the truth of his feelings for cas and how they affect him and make him act and yet. somehow. here we are. here is lucifer, mocking dean for being in love with cas. here is dean, shocked, completely taken aback. this is not something he talks about, is not something he acknowledges. the narrative does not let him. until it does, until it is forced to, until something outside the confines of the narrative breaks through and says "hey! i see you. i see what this is." and we get a moment of feelings brought to the surface, feelings acknowledged, even if only for a brief second.

bobby definitely seems to have emotionally adopted cas by season 6, like him helping cas when rachel attacks him.

to be clear bobby was also disappointed in sam during the demon blood detox but never once abandoning the idea that he was sam's father

at some point he decided cas was one of his boys and even when cas betrays them he takes it similarly to how he reacts to dean and sam going against him.

Oh, you've hit at one of my favorite Bobby and Cas moments!

AND OH HEY LET ME TALK ABOUT HOW CAS WAS FIRST KILLED/sacrificed among the pages IN CHUCK'S KITCHEN AT THE END OF SEASON 4 BUT FINDS SAFETY IN BOBBY'S KITCHEN IN SEASON 6:

Then, all Bobby says:

The other moment that's on my mind is the one after Cas collapses (apparently dead) in 7x01. Bobby's voice cracks when he says, "He's cold."

BOBBY WAS THE ONE READING THE SPELL AND—

THEN HE HAS TO LOOK AT DEAN'S—HIS KID'S—FACE AND

BOBBY: *voice cracking* He's cold

Dean, despite hearing and knowing what "he's cold" means... not believing it:

And Bobby. Bobby is trying to gently break through Dean's disbelief, while dealing with his own disappointment/sadness and it's HNNNNNGH

"but still beautiful. still dean winchester" insane to put that in a script tbh cause if you know misha you know you don't need to write that down so my question is was this a "nobody and not a single writer can be normal about dean/jackles" moment or a "i want to make this sound as romantic as possible for when people inevitably get their hands on this" moment

I think another fun thing about spn as a show is that it establishes right from the start that what we see on camera isn't the entirety of what's going on.

We see Cas rebel for the first time in s4. It's the first time to us. Cas has been rebelling for millenia tho. And we just don't got the time to cover all that. Rip moving on. Crumbs of evidence left to be followed.

We see Dean and Sam and John fight about the night Sam left/got kicked out? We don't know what exactly happened tho. Dean's voice on it is kinda suppressed. Like, what did he actually do? How did he react? We don't know. We can only collect the pieces of info we have. (Someone on my feed made a post on this damn I can't find it).

We think Dean's parentification trauma came from John. Cause we only see him.

But then we see Dean and Mary in Dark Side of the Moon. Sam assumes Dean is cleaning up John's messes. (Maybe). But then we also learn that Mary was a whole ass hunter who hid it from her family for years. Right up until she died. We see that Dean was parentified even before Mary died. Mary definitely fed into it. Oops. Now what.

Idk I just love how Spn uses the supernatural element of the show (like characters' eternal lifespans and powers etc.) and also the human elements (hey, everyone is an unreliable narrator. it's a very human thing. it's why they feel so real) to weave such a complex gaslight-y story lmao.
