I fear that I may need to become a PWHL Vancouver fan. Solely for Jaques and Křížová.

so harrowhark nonagesimus is often portrayed as raised as some form of generic-leaning-catholic christian in real world adaptations, which is fair. however, although it matches aesthetically with the prayer beads and the kneeling, i think that this interpretation undersells the fact that the ninth house practices a substantially different religion from the rest of the houses in many ways. in the other houses there are more religious and less religious people, but they all have the same major prayer and such, which the ninth does not share. the ninth house religion:
- considers themselves part of the same religion as the rest of the houses, but are often not given the same courtesy, and are generally considered weirdly culty, or at the most charitable, a fascinating anomaly
- worships jod as the foremost creator, but also shows great reverence to a secondary saint/prophet, who is not recognized by the more mainstream of the houses
- fixates on an upcoming apocalypse that their house will be the witness to and bear the burden of
- is far more demanding than many of the other houses, placing more importance on the ritual aspect of worship, much of which is secret from outsiders
- has specific religious outfitting (face paint etc) that must be worn by all adherents, at all times
weighing the evidence thus, it is with a heavy heart that i have concluded that harrowhark nonagesimus is a mormon.

having both thompson and jaques on the same team is so unfair man. two of the best if not /the/ two best offensive defenders in the league who dont compromise their defense at all for their offense, then youre like maybe ill get a break after that and boom lee stecklein is there

Consider that ill cry if frost doesn't protect KCS
Who I think each PWHL team is going to protect
With the announcement that the western teams are essentially going to rob each PWHL team of some of their players, I thought it would be fun to share who I thought each team would protect and why.
If some of you haven’t seen the rules of the expansion there’s going to be two rounds of protection. In the first round, each current team is allowed to protect three players. After the first round of protection, both western teams are allowed to select a player from the team. After the western teams have chosen their first player, each original team is allowed to pick one final player to protect, then the expansion teams will select three more players. There are a couple of rules on who is allowed to be protected, but it boils down to “If the player is signed to the team/under contract for the upcoming season, they can be protected. If not under contract, not signed or extended, they have a chance of being taken in Free agency OR during the expansion draft.”
Now let me get into it.
Boston Fleet
- Round 1:
1. Megan Keller
2. Aerin Frankel
3. Hannah Bilka
- Round 2:
1. Alina Müller
Reasoning:
I think it’s fairly obvious that first ballot you would save your franchise defenseman and goaltender, thats just the truth. BUT as for that third spot I’d have to give it to Hannah Bilka, shes almost tied with Müller for goals while playing in just under half the games and a great young talent (but im biased because she’s my favorite) But for the next pick i think it would go to Müller because shes second in points for the team and has a clutch factor. The emotional choice is to protect Knight, but with her announcing that the 2026 Milan Olympics will be her last, i dont know how much longer she’d play in the PWHL. It wouldn’t be the smartest move to protect her over other players despite her leading the team in points and being the captain, when at most we could have only a year or two more with her.
Minnesota Frost
- Round 1:
1. Taylor Heise
2. Sophie Jaques
3. Maddie Rooney
- Round 2:
1. Britta Curl
Reasoning:
Obviously Heise is the 1st overall in the inaugural draft and the face of the franchise, I dont see a world where they don’t protect her. Jaques leads the team in assists and has the second best +/- of all players. As for Rooney, she is the younger goalie, has better save % and GAA while playing more games. For the second round it’s a toss up for me but in the end I unfortunately think Curl wins out between her and Captain Coyne-Schofield. She’s younger and an agitator while also being a decent goal scorer. While KCS is the point leader for the team, at 33 years old we’re not sure how much longer she will play for the league.
Montreal Victoire
- Round 1:
1. Marie-Philip Poulin
2. Laura Stacey
3. Ann-Renée Desbiens
- Round 2:
1. Cayla Barnes
Reasoning:
There simply isn’t a chance that Montreal lets Poulin go unprotected and while I think that first ballot protection should go to one forward, one defenseman, and a goalie (preferably) I do not see a scenario where they would separate Poulin and Stacey. I think being second in points and goals for the team has more than earned Stacey a spot on the first ballot. But I don’t think it’s wise for them to not protect a defender first. Is there a chance that a defender comes first on the ballot? Maybe. Especially given what teams are likely going to have to give up. Ann is the next for 1st round protection, she leads the league in goals against average, save percentage and wins for this season and is always relatively solid. I don’t see any of the backups for Montreal coming close to filling her shoes. As for the second round, I know a lot of people are saying Erin Ambrose, for good reason shes incredible defensively, but my dark horse candidate is Cayla. She’s young, she has more points than Erin while only having two less assists.
New York Sirens
- Round 1:
1. Sarah Filler
2. Alex Carpenter
3. Ella Shelton
- Round 2:
1. Corinne Schroeder
Reasoning:
This is the one team that I don’t see having a chance of going by the standard one forward, one defenseman, and one goalie protected in the first round. Shelton is a gifted offensive defender and we would be fools to let her be taken. I think it’s obvious that we should protect Sarah Fillier especially if she chooses to extend her time with us (which I’m not sure if I see her doing) however we can’t let her go for free. At the very least if she doesn’t choose to stay in New York, then she will be good to get trades for. Carpenter is obvious, proven time and time again that she is offensively at the top end of the talent pool and not too shabby defensively minded either. As for the last player given protection, I went back back-and-forth between Eldridge and Schroeder. I could genuinely see it going either way however my pick is Schroeder.
Ottawa Charge:
- Round 1:
1. Emily Clark
2. Gwyneth Philips
3. Jincy Roese
- Round 2:
1. Brianne Jenner
Reasoning:
I don’t think there’s going to be any debate on whether or not they protect Emily Clark, but I have seen some people debating Philips and Maschmeyer. I’ve also seen some horrendous takes where people say to protect both Philips and Maschmeyer in the first round. But the end all be all is this; Philips is younger, has better stats in just slightly less games played, and I don’t think you could find a more reliable goaltender as a rookie within the league, let alone this draft. As for the second round, I was again caught between players. Serdachny, Vanišová and Jenner. More so because I’m not sure if they want to give Dachs more time to develop, if they value Vanišová’s point production this season, but I believe I’m going to give it to Jenner. This is the one time I’ve kept a captain on the list, but I think Jenner comes in clutch for the team. She scores goals when they need to be scored.
Toronto Sceptres
- Round 1:
1. Renata Fast
2. Kristen Campbell
3. Daryl Watts
- Round 2:
1. Sarah Nurse
Reasoning:
This was honestly the most difficult one, I had to guess whether faces of the franchise were more important than point producers/goal scorers in the eyes of the front office.
Similar to Boston I don’t see them not protecting their franchise defenseman and franchise goalie. I think it won’t be the end of the world if they leave Campbell unprotected because Kirk showed a lot of talent, very high safe percentage, and a very decent GAA but going from 9 games played to being the starter is a large task. This will 100% upset people, but I think they may pick Watts over Nurse, Maltais and Spooner in the first ballot. The girls simply did not perform up to the standard that they need to be. Watts has at minimum 13, and max 22 more points than any of them. For Maltais it was in the same amount of games played. She’s a goal scorer and a point producer and to keep the offense pumping, I think she’s unnecessary asset to protect. I debated who would be protected in the second round, and was caught between Miller and Nurse but I think they will focus on protecting a franchise forward in Nurse.
And thats it! Lemme know your thoughts, whether you agree/disagree, who you hope gets protected or what have you. Thanks for reading y’all! Enjoy game 2 of the Walter Cup Finals today.
