Shh, it’s a secret

I wonder, what will become of me when I die?I apologize, I suppose that’s somewhat morbid of me to think of, but I’m quite serious! I simply don’t know what will happen! And at my age, it’s simply something you think about with a certain frequency.Do you know, death seems almost trivial at times, you know. So many that pass simply join the ever-growing number of boos that populate the world around us, and, for the life of me -if you’ll forgive me the phrase- I simply don’t see much of a difference between either state of existence. As I understand there is a certain lack of living sensation and that, perhaps, holds some significance. But by and large, I have encountered several boos more than capable of maintaining their form in death as they did in life as well as a distinct memory of their deeds and relationships from their lifetimes. I’m certain it must come with some things that take getting used to, however...is it truly so awful? I lack any true perspective, of course, but there are so many lingering spirits who seem quite happy to linger.Perhaps I might not become a boo at all, but rather a more conventional ghost! Though, is there any perceptible difference between the two?Though, for that matter, perhaps my spirit won’t manifest after death. I’ve no idea how such things come about. I may simply pass to the Overthere or the Underwhere or whichever final destination may take me in.Though from the descriptions Her Majesty and Master Mario have given me on the locations, I must say that both sound rather dull. Nice enough places to visit, but to stay? Hardly...But listen to me, dithering on about such somber subjects.I’m far too busy to die, simple as that! I can start thinking about an extended vacation once my duties are complete. And since a Toad’s work is never done, I suppose that makes me immortal, wouldn’t you say?Quite indestructible~

You know, I have no trouble with being a Toad.Quite the contrary, I’ve always taken a great deal of pride in my fungal status! And as a Toad, I do think that I strike quite the dashing figure~ My cap is perfectly rounded, my moustache is meticulously coiffed, I’m easily one of the finest dressed in the entire kingdom, and if I do say so, my demeanor is nothing short of dapper!Yes, as a mushroom, and as a representative of my race, I do think that I’m quite the striking figure!...Though...I can’t say I haven’t considered what it might be like to be a bit taller. With, perhaps a more...angular physique? More pronounced musculature, a stronger chin...or...well, perhaps a chin at all.I mean, I hardly consider myself unattractive by any respect, though...but there are so many quite stunning figures waltzing around these days. Beautiful really. It presents a certain standard to which it is quite impossible for me to attain.I wonder what that might be like.Bah! But what am I saying? Dealing with all of those grotesque bodily functions and superfluous extremities and appendages... I’m certain it’s more trouble than it’s worth, what with the noses and the ears...Ears! Could you imagine? Such ghastly things...

The old Toad stood in front of the bathroom sink, small hands planted firmly on either side of the porcelain basin. He gazed sternly into the pristine mirror before him, his reflection glaring back, challenging him, daring him to go forward the unspeakable plans he had been formulating since the night before.The day had only just begun. He hadn’t even properly knotted his tie, its silken fabric hanging about either side of his neck, and already it had come to this.Could he really do it this time? Was he truly going to follow through?It was unthinkable.Inconceivable!It stood against everything he believed in, every value that he had sworn to uphold!The amount of precision that would be required, the care that would need to be taken measured against the unspeakable fallout that would occur was nearly unfathomable. He would have to live with the consequences of his actions for years. Possibly for the rest of his life!This kind of drastic action could cost him everything! His position, his reputation, his friends, career… everything he had staked his entire existence on! Was it really worth giving it all up? Was it worth it to cut down one of the things he loved most, just for one fleeting, fragile moment of potential glory?Oh, but the glory to be had…Surely everyone would understand. He had been stuck…trapped in the same position for so long, living the same life day in and day out. It had it’s wonderful moments, of course! Why there were days where he couldn’t be happier to be exactly as he was just where he was! But other days…the monotony became so stagnant, so oppressive. He could do better. He knew he could do better. He had always had the potential for greatness, had he only had the resolve to reach out and seize it for himself! To retake what was rightfully his!Something in the old mushroom’s eyes steeled itself. His resolve was absolute.He was going to do it, consequences be damned.With a single, smooth motion, Toadsworth drew his blade. He eyed its cold, metal edge, still devastatingly sharp even after so in disuse, still capable to cutting down whatever lay in its path. Slowly, he brought the blade to bear.It was now or never. He had to do it fast, without thinking.His grip on the handle tightened. With a swift jerk of his wrist, he brought his hand down, all of his strength behind this single, sudden motion, the razor-sharp edge biting down, cutting deep into its biting down mercilessly……into the open air, the barber’s razor falling with a clatter as it hit the bathroom floor.In front of the sink Toadsworth was bend over, gently petting his moustache, muttering to himself, “Oh, my poor, dear little darling, Daddy’s so sorry! Daddy would never harm a single one of your hairs! He can’t believe he ever dreamed of shaving you! Oh you poor, poor dear, what was I thinking? Oh this calls for a dash of wax, yes, yes, that’s just what you need…”So Toadsworth reached for the medicine cabinet, and proceeded to coo soothingly to his moustache for the next 20 minutes.

Do you know, there are times that I rather miss taking care of a child?There’s something so marvelous about having a tiny little babbling bundle to look after! Preparing their meals, taking them to their classes, laundering their clothes, mending skinned knees and wiping teary eyes...certainly it was work, but just seeing that young, vibrant face beaming up at you with those sparkling eyes...that does truly make it all worth the while. It’s something I haven’t really felt in quite some timeI, of course, love the Princess dearly, and my memories of being her caregiver are some of the most treasured in my life! But our stations being what they are, well...it is difficult to remain familiar! And she’s gone from these palace halls so very often. I’m certain she just sees me as a doddering, old worrywart anymore. Of course, in a way, I like to think of her as my...Well...That would be horribly inappropriate, wouldn’t it?...I do wonder, you know, what it might have been like to have a child of my own. Without any of the tutors, or royal responsibilities, or any of the formality and propriety. Just... someone to think of as family. Father and daughter or son. Simple as that.I suppose I’ll never know.

And I mean nearly the ENTIRETY of the Metal Gear series! 

Yeah, yeah, I know, -insert Metal Gear games already ARE movies joke here- but seriously, bear with me a while and consider it. Do you have any idea how many different genres of campy goodness that the Metal Gear Franchise could cover? This is bigger than just one film, we’re talking a full-on genre-spanning movie-verse! Hear me out under the cut.))

Let’s start with the first Metal Gear games: Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake-

These games are just DYING to be made into a campy 80s era action flick, full of musclebound meatheads, blazing machine guns, evil European terrorist cells, and a metric asston of explosions! All while sporting some of the corniest dialogue and cheesiest one-liners you can think of! We’re talking Schwarzenegger levels of camp here, folks. I mean just LOOK at this box-art -

Does that not just SCREAM 80s action flick!? Just add in some practical effects and models for Metal Gear itself and boom. Instant mindless adrenaline flick. If it doesn’t I dunno what does. Moving forward to the Metal Gear Solid series.

This is, of course, where the series becomes more subdued, much more focused on Stealth, and actually tries to develop an intricate storyline full of international intrigue, multi-layered government shadow ops, and a TON of political upheaval.

Granted, the story itself is nearly every bit as ridiculous as its precessor, but here it’s at least trying hard to cover its tracks and at least appear somewhat plausible. This is where the movies would shift from the campy action mentioned above, and instead become a campy spy flick. Something like James Bond only without the smug attitude and with a lot more grit while at the same time being willing to make fun of itself. I’m picturing big, over-the-top opening credits with sultry silhouettes, crosshairs, smoke plumes, gun rifling, the works, all sung off by the voice of a lovely lounge-singer.

Heck just WATCH the opening to MGS3: Snake Eater and tell me I’m wrong!

This mood would follow each movie, spanning MGS 3-4, possibly including Peace Walker. All culminating, of course, in MGS V The Phantom Pain, in which the genre again shifts slightly, still carrying vestiges of an old spy flick, while utilizing a narrative structure more akin to a gritty Western. Now, while this film would be the latest in the series and is based off the newest game, it would be shot with effects to make it look granier, much older than it is, because it’s a movie that should look and sound every bit as broken down as its protagonist is. And finally...the standalone title.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

In STARK contrast to the rest of the films, THIS movie would be STATE OF THE ART. I’m talking the best visuals that money can buy! A good 80% of the film would be CG. And not unnoticeable, ‘might be real’ CG, I’m talking glowing, vibrant, obvious CG. This movie would be GARISH AND LOUD. A sci-fi action thriller directed by Guillermo del Toro on par with something like Pacific Rim. Mindless, shameless, and UTTERLY ridiculous. This would have you leaving the theater feeling PUMPED like you could take on the world!

But year. There’s my case. Metal Gear for the movies 2k15.
