After sneaking Albus into the restricted section, the two of them found themselves missing an object that would be hard to come by in Knockturn Alley so finding it in Hogsmeade had become out of the question. Luckily, Sienna had remembered Tobias mentioning it a few times so she found herself stalking the halls for the Hufflepuff. While there was no guarantee that the fifth year would have it, she knew better than to question his resourcefulness. Catching sight of his familiar dark locks, she trailed him until they were in a deserted corridor where she finally spoke up. “Toby, I need something from you.”
@tobiasburke
Tobias had just finished a rather pleasant and silent study session in the library when he heard someone almost called his name. He swivelled around, brows furrowed and ready to give whoever it was a chewing out. As soon as he saw Sienna heading his way however, his face smoothed out and even the hint of a smile graced his features. She was one of the only people who could get away with calling him by his usually unwanted nickname. “Just name it. It might take a little longer to get, what with all this mess.” he said. The recent attack had put a dampner on everyone’s moods, sure... but the school had taken more measures for security and it left Tobias running through hoops trying to figure out how to smuggle certain things into the castle. “For you, I’ll try to get it in sooner.”

Life... was not settling after the tragedy tht followed valentine’s day and for the most prt, Tobias understood. He wasn’t as heartless as most people believed him to be but there was a part of him that was getting ticked off. All these crying students, but how many of them had actually talked to the kids that died? How many broody seventh years had actually made time to talk to a twelve year old? It just wasn’t done. Tobias couldn’t stand some of the fake mourners in the castle and they were practically suffocating him. His own common room seemed to be the worst for it so Tobias made his way up to the library, a place that valued sanctity and quiet and had a corner up the back with his name on it. Unfortunately, once the fifth year had arrived, he found someone in his spot. He wasn’t all too disappointed with the company however, so instead of grumbling and leaving the library, Tobias made his way over to Charles. “Do you mind?” he asked, referring to the empty seat next to the Slytherin.

@lionbonaparte
Tobias didn’t really know what had possessed him to sign up for something about school unity. Or Valentines Day. Or a dance. It was the complete opposite of everything Tobias stood for and yet, the Hufflepuff found himself making his way towards the Great Hall to help set up. He blamed Poppy Longbottom for getting into his head. Perhaps the worst of it all was being forced to set up with a complete stranger. It was rare for Tobias to find people he didn’t mind talking to and he’d have much rather spent a gruelling task with them. He was sure he’d never spoken a word to Laurel and if all went well, by the end of this ordeal the word count would be at 5. “Let’s get this over and done with so I can get out of here, agreed?”

poppylongbottom:
Poppy had always been an early riser, rarely getting more than eight hours at a time; if she’s in bed by eight, she’s usually awake before first light. But even for someone who thrives in the company of others, she too has come to enjoy the peace and quiet before the first wave of Hogwarts students set out to start their days. Whatever it may be she finds herself doing to occupy the silence, she’d always preferred to spend her morning doing anything other than stay in bed. As she arrives back from her run, she spots a familiar face laying on a stone bench not far from the entrance to the school. She smiles despite herself, and contemplates hurrying past so as to avoid bothering him. Tobias certainly wouldn’t be a morning person, after all, he’s barely an anytime person. Immediately scolding herself for the thought, she decides to make her way over, stopping just a few feet from him. “Don’t mean to interrupt you..Though, I suppose that’s exactly what I’m doing by speaking to you at all, so sorry in advance, but I just wanted to say hi before I head back inside! So, uh, good morning!”
As soon as the voice rung out in the quad, Tobias shut his eyes. Was he willing this to be a dream and when he opened his eyes, he’d be back in his bed in the Hufflepuff dormitories? Or was he hoping the cold had seeped into his brain and made him a little loopy, resulting in him imagining Poppy’s voice? He wasn’t sure but when he opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was blonde hair attached to a small human being and knew neither theory or dream was correct. It wasn’t that he disliked Poppy, he didn’t really have any say in the matter. For some reason she always seemed to be friendly to him and it always seemed genuine. It was actually quite nice, if he had to admit it, but he didn’t. Despite himself, his lip quirked, the closest thing to a smile he could muster right now. “I’m not sure I’d say it was good but it certainly is morning. How are you Poppy?”

juliascrp:
In a castle teeming with growing children and angst-ridden adolescents, solitude was a rare gem. Julia, born and raised in isolation, never learned to adapt to the raucousness of her peers, nor wished to. In consequence, she captured each fleeting moment of silence like a ravenous predator. Often, she would escape into the Forbidden Forest, or make a home in one of the Willow trees surrounding the Great Lake. And, to avoid the boisterous fuss of the morning rush, she wheeled herself out of bed before all of her housemates. In these occasions, she sets out to find an abandoned spot in the gardens and meditate. Sometimes, however, she finds another student sprawled on one of the benches, with eyes darted towards the rising sun, instead. She wasn’t certain what it was—perhaps, curiosity or a repressed longing to find kinship— Nevertheless, she spoke, her voice just slightly above a whisper, “Shame. I thought you were a corpse.”
He couldn’t help the bark of laughter, a natural knee-jerk reaction. Sharp and loud and unlike him but Tobias had to admit it, that was funny. “Not yet.” he replied, turning his head towards the voice. “Though this chill might have other plans.” Tobias had to admit, he didn’t know much about Julia. He knew most children of pureblood families through forced playdates and interaction at parties when trying to get away from the adults. He only knew the Greengrass girl through reputation and perhaps that was what intrigued the young man. Was there any truth to the rumours? Nevertheless, Tobias sat up and made room on the bench. He reasoned that she wouldn’t have stopped if she didn’t want to talk and he didn’t know if she was annoying or even interesting. He was curious. “Were you hoping to find a dead body? I’ve been told I have the personality of one.”

hvmaniitee:
The best time at Hogwarts was the one where there was hardly anyone around. Which was quite impractical, because a school was meant to be busy and lively, and yet Albus would find himself waking up at ridiculous hours just so he could appreciate the silence.
His feet had taken him outside, and he was grateful to the version of himself from twenty minutes earlier who had decided to grab his coat and scarf as he had left the dorm room. Clearly, not everyone had the same presence of mind, he smirked to himself as he walked up to Tobias Burke.
Albus had first poked his head inside the Hufflepuff’s parents’ shop in his fourth year, receiving confused stares from those inside. Not to mention the ‘you will regret this, young man’ smile Ginny had given him when she had managed to find her son, arguing with some other buyer that yes, he was a little young to be there but maybe he should be allowed to enquire about any damned item he wanted, shouldn’t he? In the end he had figured out that asking Tobias was much easier that trying to make adults think. Or set their morals aside, respect the law or whatever.
“Aren’t you cold?” he asked, planting himself by Tobias’ side but not taking a seat. “Is that some sort of mental training, or physical reinforcement, something?”
Tobias couldn’t help the little sigh that escaped his mouth, the little indicator of irritation. He had been enjoying his peaceful morning, void of pleasantry nothings and people in general. Despite not disliking Albus, he would’ve rathered to see the older boy in the hours that others were awake so Toby could’ve used him as a distraction... Not when he was perfectly happy with his own thoughts. “Yeah, it’s a mental trick meant to strengthen the mind. It’s to focus more on how cold I am so I can ignore stupid questions like that. It’s working rather well, actually.” Tobias glanced over in his company’s direction, letting out another sigh, this one more voluntary than the last. “Do you want a seat?” It didn’t seem like Albus had anywhere to be and so he started to gear himself up for what would be a not unpleasant conversation, but unwanted nonetheless.

doctrinxire:
With quidditch season back in full swing, Sienna found herself with early mornings and late nights as she practiced whenever she could, always making it a point to make the trek to the quidditch pitch at least once a day. This morning was no different as she braced herself for the biting cold, immediately regretting not adding a second layer of clothing. Layers may have made her a little bit sluggish, but right now it seemed like a better solution. Boots crunching against the ground, the blonde gripped her broom tightly, her pace steadily increasing as the chilly winds got deeper into her bones. However, she found herself slowing down, noticing a body on one of the stone benches. She wasn’t sure who was insane enough to actually put them-self through that kind of torturous cold but who was she to question it considering Sienna had only a wool sweater to brace the temperature. “You do know you’re probably going to catch a cold,” she called out, slowly approaching the bench. “Unless that’s what you had in mind.”
Eyes still trained on the horizon, Tobias had to admit he received a little fright at the sound of someone’s voice calling out. He knew they had to be talking to him, there was no one else around and that was the way he liked it. He was a millisecond off telling the destroyer of his peace exactly that and for them to mind their own business, only to be greeted with Sienna. Someone whose company he didn’t actually mind... even welcomed. Though he still would’ve liked for her to mind her business, even if she was right. “Maybe so.” he shrugged, before looking over at her apparel and shaking his head. “You’re not dressed much better, so I don’t think you can talk.” A hint of humour laced his voice, a lighthearted tone that only came when he truly enjoyed the company surrounding him. “What exactly are you doing out here?”

@tobiasburke
few things could’ve been as awful as being assigned tobias burke as a potions partner this year. not only did that put a serious damper on the one thing that was actually worth-while about this place, but it also made her feel things she didn’t want to feel whenever she spent time with the burke boy for too long.
after considering just leaving the class, margaery drew a deep breath and dragged herself over to the desk where the hufflepuff was sitting, the yellow colour glaringly obvious. how revolting. with a roll of her eyes and a heavy sigh, she sat down next to the boy she’d once called her best friend and pushed her chair slightly further away from his.
“so…” she began, inhaling sharply as she looked at tobias, icy blue eyes drilling into his. “let me get a few things straight: we do no talk during potions, we will be making our own, separate potions and we will definitely will not study together outside of class.” while keeping her eyes cold, a sickly sweet smile spread across her face, and it felt unsettlingly out of place. “do you understand?”
A part of Tobias hated this new arrangement, hated Professor Kader despite being his favourite teacher, hated the godawful partnership system the class had. Another part was elated, though he tried not to let that show as Margaery sat down next to him. Well, if you could even call it that. From the way she tried to sit as far away as possible, some might’ve thought he had a disease. In fact, she’d probably agree with that statement. It was all a little ridiculous and Tobias couldn’t help roll his eyes at the dramatics.
“I understand.” he nodded, before continuing. “I just don’t agree to all the terms and conditions.” Tobias shrugged, his face absolutely serene. He knew it his disagreement with her rules would bug her and honestly? It made it a little sweeter. “I don’t mind making seperate potions, you ruining my hard work is the last thing I want. The no-studying-together? Fine. But I can’t even talk to you? Not even to ask you to pass something?” Tobias was almost on the verge of rolling his eyes again but he refrained. There ws something about her smile that unnerved him and while in the past, she was more bark than bite with him, he didn’t really want to make her cross. Just push some buttons is all. “Lighten up Maggie.”

while not particularly fond of mornings, leonora had been struggling to sleep that night and figured she’d might as well get some time on the pitch before she’d have to fight everyone else for it. stepping outside, broom in hand, she shuddered as the cold air hit her and pulled her clothes tighter around herself. half-jogging on her way down to the pitch as she tried not to slip on the icy ground, she was caught off guard as she saw a fellow hufflepuff lying on a bench outside at the crack of dawn. stopping and walking over to him, she frowned slightly as she cleared her throath to announce her presence. “i’m guessing you couldn’t sleep either… or are you one of those people who actually enjoy getting up at the crack of dawn?” she asked with a small laugh.
The sound of someone clearing their throat pulled him out of his reverie and his head whipped around, ready to chew the person out only to see Leonora. At the sight of her Tobias almost smiled, the corner of his lip turning up slightly. “I wouldn’t say I enjoy the waking up aspect,” he said, sitting up, leaving room on the bench for another person to sit down. It was the closest he’d get to inviting her to sit down, sure she’d rather get to the Quidditch pitch more than talk to him. “I like the peace. No one else about, no one to annoy me. It’s like the calm before the storm.” It was only then that Tobias realised he insinuated her to be annoying (and for once, it wasn’t the case). Inwardly he grimaced, not wanting to upset one of the only housemates he actually liked. Instead of apologising however, he tried to remedy it with a query about her. “Why couldn’t you sleep? Was it the awful mattresses?”
#c: leonora#this is awful i'm sorry#deleted scene: instead of apologising (like a normal fckin person goD toby)

His yawn seemed to echo throughout the hallway and his footfall sounded more like a giant’s than a teenage boy. Tobias had always been an early riser, never one to dawdle and daydream, but this morning it seemed a little ridiculous. The sun had only managed to just peep up as the boy made his way around the castle, relishing in the silence. It was a rare occurrence at the school and Tobias wanted to savour every moment of it. The weather outside was a tad too chilly to be walking around without his robes or a coat but the Hufflepuff made his way out anyway. Inhaling the crisp air, he made his way to a stone bench only to stop short. Simple thoughts ran through his head, telling him that the seat would be freezing and that it was a stupid decision. No one was around to witness said foolish decision though, so Tobias lay down and watched the sunrise, ignoring the cold biting his skin.
#your character could be an early riser too?? or someone could scare the living daylights out of him?? the possibilities are endless#semper.open#..... yes i am recycling starters please don't @ me

here’s katelyn, back at it again with shoving my characters @ you
❝ oh, look it’s tobias burke, a fifteen year old pureblood wizard attending hogwarts. he is a fifth year hufflepuff student. their friends would say they are honest + opinionated but can also be stoic + cynical. they are known around the castle as the lone wolf. some swear they look like ryan potter but they would disagree. ❞
my main inspirations for creating him were ron swanson, oscar the grouch (trash can included) and holt from b99
proof that hufflepuff does not equal cinnamon rolls and yet? he gets disowned
well not family disowned (but his father was disappointed he wasn’t in slytherin) but by some of his friends... cheers to you margaery rowle. despite the fact the hat said he had the ambition and drive to fit in the house of snakes, it was the fact that he valued loyalty and honesty more so and in his opinion? ambition’s only so good if you do the hard work to back it up.
his relative was the cofounder of borgin and burkes and when he was little his parents took over ownership
i mean, borgin and burkes was never exclusively dark arts objects but they dodgy af
so when cassius and delia burke took over the shop they made the decision to help clean up knockturn alley and try and stay on the aurors good side and not get in trouble.
their idea of cleaning out the dark maggic items was just storing them out the back and selling to select people who knew about their black market operations
wow super family friendly guys
tobias was always anti the business lmao not because his parents were selling dangerous and dodgy stuff but the fact that they were lying about it
honestly, he’s his parents son and is the one stop place if you need to get some contraband
the only difference is he wont lie about it??? like if someone straight up asked him if he was supplying kids with rare potion ingredients or alcohol he’d pretty much admit it but he’s also not the type to rat you out so really.... the less he knows the better
he figures if you want something so badly you should face the repercussions of getting said item
his morals are something so be desired
his family faced a bit of a scandal a few years back???
the ministry was investigating his father and the shady dealings and so cassius fled the country so he wouldn’t get caught. #whatawinner
tobias’ mother (who up until this post only hung out with wealthy pureblood wives, drunk wine and pretended to be something she wasn’t), decided to take matters into her own hands and take over the shop. now borgin and burkes is the one stop shop for all your magical antiques and oddities and only a select few know where to now find the darker items
tobias is actually quite proud of his mum?? and feels a lot closer to her
he gets his work ethic and sense of loyalty from her and i just?? despite being kind of awful i love them
despite being disappointed in his house sorting originally, tobias actually has a lot of house pride. he’s not gonna sing kumbaya with them or make cookies or anything but he likes what they stand for
he wants to be a politician and serve for the wizengamot
and with his brutal honesty and strong opinions it’s gonna be a ride
deadpan af
has only ever smiled like, twice in his life
his family aren’t pureblood elite, sitting more around the middle. they’re rich and definitely believe that pure blood is better, so he’s not a complete disgrace to the pureblood community. with the tarnished reputation thanks to his father however, it’s been a bit harder as of late. tobias is keen to elevate the burke’s status and wants to do his mother proud and get her as much wine as she wants (an icon)
i think i covered everything?? his wanted connections page is here (x)
