Yes, I, me, OP, photographer. I know. ^^
Below is a wider perspective of Banjin Shrine (番神神社) on Banjin Beach, Kashiwazaki, Niigata. Just to the east of the shrine is the rock where Nichiren landed after he was pardoned from exile on Sado Island. There's a bigger Banjin-dō dedicated to him nearby.
番神 refers to 30 protective deities (banshin or bangami) who take turns guarding the country and the faithful. It's said that Nichiren himself enshrined these guardians in this area.
The inscription on the rock in the first ↑ photo reads 龍宮両大竜王神, Ryūgū Ryō‑dai Ryūō‑shin, “twin great dragon kings of the dragon palace". Although the dragon kings are not among the 30 banshin, they are often venerated alongside banshin in coastal Nichiren shrines for their protective roles.

If you're wondering why a Buddhist philosopher is linked to a Shinto shrine, that's because the banshin were originally local kami who were later incorporated into Buddhist cosmology in a process known as Shinto-Buddhist syncretism (神仏習合, shinbutsu shūgō).

😍😭😍😭 Butternut: almost impossible to find in Tokyo except when @shoku-and-awe hunts one down. Call her Artemis. Feta cheese: available but it decimates your bank account. These scones look delectable. Have an extra one on my behalf, @archetypewriter!

I made muffins! Butternut squash and feta muffins, specifically.

'25.7.18 興福寺、浅茅ヶ原、飛火野にて
濃い霧が見られた朝。いつもの始発で駅に着いたら、撮りながらえっさほいさと興福寺を抜け参道を進みます。
・・飛火野に着いたら霧はほぼ流れていて、普通の夏の朝といった風情で、イメージしていた霧蒸す春日山etcの景色は見られませんでした・・
