just a heads up to my fellow writers out there that AO3 is currently fighting off bots commenting on people’s works to tell them that AO3 will delete their fics “due to the works being deprecated”, and the deletion will affect their accounts unless the authors delete the fics themselves first. Though I am open to discussing some ships, most if not everything I personally write will be gen (platonic and familial relationships only). I am okay with considering ship requests, but since I am much more comfortable writing gen, I tend to gravitate towards those requests more. It's been a few weeks but exams are finally over (Hallelujah!) so here are my belated birthday head cannons for Chuuya

This probably goes without saying but Chuuya 100% has a cabinet or safe of specialty wines he keeps for extremely special occasions that are rare and have been aged since the 1600s or something. I get the feeling that he cracks one open every year on his birthday and drowns the whole thing through the night. If Kouyou was around, she would split the bottle with her and they'd find dinner or something. If not, he drinks alone in his penthouse. Either way, the bottle is always empty by morning; the only difference is how much his head hurts afterwards.

Birthdays also 100% include a motorcycle joyride around the city as well. They would start around the city of Yokohama, before extending further inland to a an overhanging cliff or some other private place where he can admire the view and reflect. He's spent so much time contemplating whether or not he's even human that the idea of being "born" is somewhat foreign to him. Birthdays are kind of heavy because of it, so it's not unusual for him to slip into melancholy at the thought of it.

More knows his birthday and will briefly acknowledge it at meetings, but Chuuya never responds with more than a grunt or brief "thank you".

The first time Akutagawa learned it was Chuuya's birthday after Dazai left the mafia, he offered a small "happy birthday" in passing. In later years, as Akutagawa began to trust him more as a mentor than just a colleague, it escalated to him leaving figs on his desk, then cutting them together as Chuuya asked about his mission progress.

Sometimes he wonders what his birthdays would have looked like had he been raised by Verlaine in the French countryside like he wanted, or even just with the presence of an older brother he trusted at all. Somewhere in the mafia's basement, Verlaine counts the next 365 days until the depressive fog clears just enough for him to remember the life they could have had away from the violence he had such a big part in perpetrating. During this clarity, he mentally wishes Chuuya well on the same day every year.

All in all, birthdays are a complicated matter for Chuuya filled with a lot of complex emotions and thoughts, but he considers himself lucky to have enough people and good in his life to make it worth the effort to celebrate it every year.

OP as a writer on AO3 myself, people who write any kind of comment are the most wonderful people in the planet!! It’s insanely validating to have someone take the time to write something so kind, especially if it’s lengthy. It’s proof that a real human person appreciated your work so as long as you’re being kind, go for it!!!
