Note
Quick question: I wrote a horror piece with an ambiguous ending prior to finding out about Horror Week last year. Is it okay if I post a sequel to the potential “bad ending” for this year’s collection? (Link to the first story will be included, of course)
Thanks!
Yep! Sequels, in-progress works, etc. are absolutely welcome.

🌙✨ Tolkien Fairytale & Folklore Week 2025 ✨🌙
Tumblr media
🧚 A weeklong celebration of legends, lore, and faërie in Middle-earth
Tag: #TolkienFolkloreWeek2025
Date: December 1st – 7th (for when best to tell old tales than in winter?)
Have you ever imagined Lúthien as the fairest of them all — a hunted daughter with raven hair, echoing Snow White of the Brothers Grimm?
Or seen Yavanna, born of blossoms and divine power, in the image of Blodeuwedd from the Mabinogion?
Have you thought of Gandalf as Odin wandering in disguise? Or Fëanor as a fallen craftsman god, not unlike Prometheus?
If you’ve ever been drawn to the myths behind Middle-earth — the fairytales, epics, legends, and old gods that shaped Tolkien’s world — this is your invitation.
This is Tolkien Fairytale & Folklore Week 2025 — where we return to the stories beneath the stories. Where Middle-earth meets myths, epics, hearth-tales, and the whispering woods of old.
🌿 What is this?
A creative fandom event celebrating Tolkien’s legendarium through the lens of:
🏰 Fairytales (classic, dark, and global)
🐉 Folklore (rural myths, local legends, old wives’ tales)
📜 Mythology (Norse, Arthurian, Greek, Celtic, Hindu, African, and more)
⚔️ Ancient epics (Beowulf, Gilgamesh, Mahabharata, etc.)
Middle-earth was a mythology, after all — and Tolkien loved the tales that came before it. This week is about reimagining and rediscovering those mythic roots, through fanworks of all kinds.
✨ What can I create?
Fanfiction
Fanart
Edits / moodboards / aesthetics
Meta / headcanons
Original poetry / songs
Playlists
Worldbuilding
Cosplay / crafts / anything that tells a story!
No need to follow a daily prompt schedule — use as many or as few as you like!
📌 Follow this blog for reblogs, prompts, and updates!
📖 Check out the FAQ and Rules, this year's prompts and our AO3 Collection [will follow].

March of the Quendi
What is it?
A month-long event to celebrate the long walk the Elves took from their home on the shores of Cuiviénen, across great and unknown lands, to the blessed realm of Aman.
When is it?
March 1 - March 31
How do I participate?
Post something regarding the march and mention @march-of-the-noldor. Everything made will be reblogged here. You can also use the tags #march of the noldor and #march of the quendi but make sure to also tag this blog.
Go forth and create something New!
This is also a Great time to appreciate the lovely works already made in our fandom! So, please consider digging up posts that would fit into this event from the past and tagging this blog so that they can be shared anew!
What is allowed?
EVERYTHING!
Art, fic, meta, moodboards, poems! It's all welcome!
Want to do a character study? Awesome!
Make a collage of the kind of wild life the elves might encounter? Amazing!
Want to write a little essay about the ecological impacts of mass migration? Fantastic!
Want to consider what would happen if the Quendi were late leaving, or early? Bring it on!
However, we do ask that you refrain from using generative AI.
Is there a prompt list?
There is no official prompt series for this event. This event to meant to be very laid back where anyone can make what catches their fancy. However, if you appreciate a little more structure to follow please consider:
part 1: 1st - 8th The Great Departure * what did leaving look like? * how did the Quendi choose to organize themselves? * the joys and pains of starting a new adventure in life.
part 2: 9th - 16th Those Left Behind * this land of Aman might very well be good and joyous, but what good and joyous things had to be left being? * how were those to chose to stay affected but the departure? * and yet the elves who stayed must continue living.
part 3: 17th - 23rd Trials on the Trail * what amazing things happen while travelling? * many elves turned back or were lost, what happened to them? * they will catch up, we must keep moving.
part 4: 24th - 31st The End is in Sight! * after all this time, the end is insight, how do people feel? * how does it feel for those who decided to end their journey early? * I am so tired, I think I will lay down, just for a while once we reach Aman.
We shall depart on this voyage together!
If you have any questions please ask them! <3

1 - "On a time of autumn he came in the dusk of evening, and drawing near he saw as he thought a light at the window; and coming warily he looked within."
2 - "But there arose one who seemed to all to be Amlach son of Imlach, speaking fell words that shook the hearts of all who heard him."
Late but heartfelt submission for @tolkienhorrorweek Day 1, "seeth all things crooked." I love the eerie illusion of these Silmarillion moments with Gorlim and Amlach. Although in canon the vision of Eilinel at the window is starving and worn, I have always tended to imagine her alluring and well-groomed, a symbol of the home Gorlim and the Bëorians have lost.

Day 3: Mordor & the Dead Marshes | the pitiless land | control
“You all ask for the same thing, over and over, and I’ve given you exactly what you’ve asked for.” Sauron’s ire had finally begun to cool. “Aren’t I generous? I’ve returned what you all so desperately wish for, even after everything else I’ve given.” He sighed, smoothing back his long hair. “I’ll admit, it’s not what it used to be. I had to make some sacrifices; a voice, for one. Then again, it was words that swayed my armies from me in the first place. Remove the words, remove the temptation.”

The Fall of Númenor based on the painting The Death of Sappho in acrylic for the last day of Tolkien Horror week, featuring mostly my babygirl Sauron. I associate Númenor quite a bit with ancient Greece aesthetically and I think this was my best interpretation of it. The cover of the event, also depicting the same event, inspired me to do this one.
I forgot to post this yesterday 😭😭😭 and I had it done several days early too... this is perhaps my favorite painting to date. Every time I paint him it gets less recognizable that he is supposed to be a man

Maedhros has seen his father murdered and turn to ashes, then been dragged to the heart of the enemy’s lair. Morgoth and Mairon have decided to turn their attentions to him for both business and pleasure; he’s going to need more than luck to survive in one piece.
It’s business as usual for Adar’s third millennium of servitude to Morgoth when an elf king of some importance is dragged into Angband - one that Adar is repeatedly called upon to torment. The number of surviving Moriandor are dwindling; it can’t be that bad to try and recruit the elf king, can it? It’s that or watch him become one of the living corpses that Mairon and Morgoth turn their favorites into -
What does he mean, escape? Doesn’t the elf king know that no one escapes Angband?

With Nets, I Snare Thee
Prompt: "trapped" for @tolkienhorrorweek
Summary: In the darkness of Nan Elmoth, Aredhel weaves an unbreakable net.
Rating: T
Word Count: 1.7k
Tumblr media
Aredhel fastens Maeglin’s cloak and draws the hood over his head. His eyes, bright and too-knowing, peer out at her from the depths of the hood.
She kneels to fasten his deerskin shoes. “How does the fox hunt its prey?”
Maeglin lifts his forefinger to his lips.
She smiles. “Very good, Lómion. So shall we be: as silent as foxes. Not a whisper shall we make, not a leaf shall we stir.”
Aredhel arranges the sling about him, slipping his arms and legs into place, then lifts him upon her back and binds the sling in place. He is getting rather too large for her to carry thus, but she cannot risk any errors in her plan. They must move quickly, and she cannot afford for Maeglin to stumble or grow weary.
Fastening her quiver to her hip, she positions it so that Maeglin’s dangling leg will not bump the arrows and rattle their shafts. Then, taking her bow in hand, she slips from her quarters.
The halls of her husband’s house are silent and still. The strange, pale tapers that fill the sconces of the house cast pools of sickly light upon the dark floors of the halls, seeking to trap the shadows of her steps. Moonlight, filtering weakly through the branches of the dark-boled trees that gird the house, lances in narrow shafts through the windows, spearing her fleeing shadow upon the wall.
