Caper in the Castro is a legendary video game, not because legions of die-hard fans continue to play it, but because it was thought to be lost forever. Now, what is largely considered to be the first LGBTQ-focused video game (it was released in 1989) is on the Internet Archive for anybody to play.
The game is a noir point-and-click that puts the player in the (gum)shoes of a private detective named Tracker McDyke who is, in case you couldn’t guess by the name, a lesbian. McDyke must unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of Tessy LaFemme, a transgender woman, in San Francisco’s Castro district, an historically gay neighbourhood.
OOOOOHhh!
The game was released as charityware – freely, with a strong request to give a donation an AIDS Charity of their choice. I’d like to push towards still following that and donating, if you’re able.
(And you might also want to donate to the Internet Archive, who is hosting it now, while you’re at it – they’re in the middle of a donation drive, and could use your support.)

When my mother forgets a word, she is the queen of coming up with new words. Words that would take a third National Treasure movie to fully decipher. I was talking to her yesterday, and she said this: “You know the time for los jibbities is coming up. You must be so excited!” Oh, is it time for los jibbities already? I must have missed it on my calendar. Are we celebrating something? “Of course! We should all be celebrating, shouldn’t we?” OK, so los jibbities is a happy thing. It’s not like something is giving you the heebie-jeebies, which would have been my one and only guess. “Los heebie-jeebies? Now you’re making things up...and this is my show.” You’re right. The time for los jibbities is coming up. Is this a season? “Yes, the season for love. The season for pride.” OK, los jibbities. “Yeah, sound it out.” Los…jibbities. LGBTs! “Sí, mira cuz you’re gay!” “You couldn’t just say pride season? You couldn’t just… *laughs*

THINGS I NEED TO FUCKING KNOW: Why every fuckin trans man or nb person I know who binds is like “oh binders are the worst, you can’t breathe in them, I know someone who broke a rib once”,
And meanwhile over in historical costuming, we are fucking eating, sleeping, swordfighting, riding horses, and feeling great like this:
(credit: Jenny La Flamme, The Tudor Tailor, Verdaera)
Like is there NO overlap between people who want to bind and people who care about accurate 16th century clothing reconstruction techniques?
(I, okay, maybe it is kind of a niche interest, but…. REALLY? Anyone who’s made a boned binder, PLS SPEAK TO ME)

Researchers from the University of Indianapolis are investigating the experiences of queer individuals and their usage of social media, specifically the ways in which people use social media to facilitate identity development. If you are an adult (18 years or older) who are questioning their gender or sexual identity or who identify with a gender or sexuality that is non-cisgender or non-heterosexual, you are invited to take our survey! You can skip questions or exit the survey at any point, and it won’t cost you anything besides your time. There are no direct benefits to you, but your participation will help up is our research. In appreciation, you will be given the option to enter a drawing for one of four $20 Amazon gift cards. Participation is voluntary, and all responses will be kept confidential. If you choose to enter the drawing for a gift card, your email will be separated from your responses and will not be used for any other purpose.
If you are interested in participating, please follow the link to complete the survey.
Questions can be directed to Principal Investigator, Dr. Erin Fekete, at [email protected].
This research project has been approved by the University of Indianapolis Institutional Review Board (IRB). Approval date 09/27/2024; Approval number 02118.

I'm listening to an episode of the Cults to Conciousness podcast about gay erasure in Amish & Mennonite communities and one interesting thing one of the guests (a bi woman) brought up is that sometimes conversion therapy doesn't look like overt violence and attempts of sexuality conversion (although it does happen), because especially queer people in the social role of girl/woman in such communities will often simply not have their queerness acknowledged at all. The conversion therapy for this guest was when her father walked behind her and corrected her so she'd walk like a "proper lady", it was corrective rape and it was forced marriage, something she just barely escaped. Sometimes the conversion therapy is covert, like your community pushing you into marriage and having children so you'll be too busy to think about your sexuality, gender, freedom and self-actualization. It's not what we think of when we hear the term conversion therapy, but it's still violent, oppressive and has the same end goal.
One of the things that deeply hurt her was when a sociologist, an outsider, wrote about her community and declared that there were "no gay people" because there were not allowed to be any. It made her feel so unseen and even more like she shouldn't exist.
I can definitely see the parallels between that and how trans people have been treated historically and how trans stories are still often erased.
To believe that there are/were no LGBTQ+ people in certain communities and time periods is to believe that conversion therapy, in any of its forms, works (which it does not).

Me: I hate the way that I look and feel deeply uncomfortable in my body.
Society: That's something you can control though! There's medications and lifestyle changes you can adopt to make your body more like what you want it to be, and even surgeries! Don't give up you CAN look in the mirror and have the body you really dream of!
Me: Wow, thanks! I am going to look into gender affirming care!
Society: WHAT EW NO I meant you should stop being FAT what the fuck don't you know how PERMANENT it is to alter your body like that?! Is this just something you've got a fetish about you fucking freak?!

So uh…I know that today is Trans Day of Visibility and this website’s mods are pretty horrible to trans women but…
Over on Insta and TikTok, Mercury Stardust (also known as The Trans Handy Ma’am) has been trying to raise money for trans kids. Her account has been flagged by trolls and banned 11 times. Shes not giving up, but she could use some support. Please please go check out her accounts and consider donating to the 501c charity she’s supporting. Our trans siblings need us right now.
Link to her insta, since her tiktok is currently banned again: https://www.instagram.com/mercurystardusttopz?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
She does all types of helpful DIY videos for home repair and helps answer questions for renters. Please give her a follow. Send her a nice message. Please let our trans community members know we see them and love them—today and everyday.

"brbr but what if cishet aro men want to join the lgbt community to gain access to resources?"
A: what resources?
B: p sure "the lgbt community" is either opt in or opt out- it's not like you send an application and need a letter of approval
C: and? If you don't want to date him don't date him. If you don't want to fuck him don't fuck him. I assure you that you will survive.
"but what if he's just leading innocent women on?" Well those women are very capable of making sure they're compatible with their prospective partners so either he's a shithead that lies (in which case the problem is that he's a shithead that lies), or they talked about what their relationship means and are fine with the arrangement (in which case... why do you care???)
And like. Anyone can be a shithead that lies. Are we going to start quizzing everyone to make sure no one's lying about being lesbian gay bisexual or transgender? Do I need to get my queer license renewed every year or is this more a one-and-odone type of thing? What council of gayhood do I need to report to?
