the thing that bothers me with 7 deadly sin based characters is when they cant decide if they embody the sin by suffering from it or by drawing it out of others. ie. if your gluttony demon is a guy who loves eating then your lust demon should be a gooner sex pest. and if your lust demon is a seductive girlboss then your gluttony demon should be a 5 star chef. does this make sense.

“I have performed the necessary butchery. Here is the bleeding corpse.”

Collecting books is great until you have to move all of them at once and realize that every one of the little bastards weigh about as much as a brick and collectively have the mass of a neutron star

i think getting an undergrad degree should come with a free "second try" voucher, where if you want to go get a second different degree from any school because you picked the wrong thing as a 17 year old, its totally free to try again

SUPERMAN (2025) dir. James Gunn
#superman#dcu#i still have mixed feelings about this twist because i always loved stas jor-el#and the distant sense of loss clark feels for his kryptonian parents (especially when he meets versions of them) is very moving to me#but the fact that it centers jonathan and martha in clark's life over jor-el and lara makes it work for me

Parents are for telling their children who they're supposed to be. We're here to give you tools, to help you make fools of yourselves, all on your own. Your choices, Clark. Your actions. That's what makes you who you are. Tell you something, son. I couldn't be… more proud of you.

“we often have to explain to young people why study is useful. it’s pointless telling them that it’s for the sake of knowledge, if they don’t care about knowledge. nor is there any point in telling them that an educated person gets through life better than an ignoramus, because they can always point to some genius who, from their standpoint, leads a wretched life. and so the only answer is that the exercise of knowledge creates relationships, continuity, and emotional attachments. it introduces us to parents other than our biological ones. it allows us to live longer, because we don’t just remember our own life but also those of others. it creates an unbroken thread that runs from our adolescence (and sometimes from infancy) to the present day. and all this is very beautiful.”
Umberto Eco

a very covert form of orientalism i find quite interesting is when people tell absolutely absurd tall tales about japanese creators and then they get spread around so much they become consensus in fandom spaces. like the complete fiction that naoko takeuchi created the sailor senshi because she wanted to be friends with them. and then today i learned about an even more bizarre claim that takeshi shudo drank himself to death because people misgendered lugia too much

like what are we doing here.

The thing about Lovecraft's work is that he did write about some genuinely fucked up critters, but he doesn't seem to have had a clear picture of which ones those are. "Dog that inhabits right angles" and "sapient colour" are treated as exactly as mind-bending as, like, "guy who looks like a fish" and "big penguin".
