“I will do my best,” she laughed, “I like to think I’m a bit too open minded to be a Karen,” she mused. She was pretty sure that Karen’s weren’t usually gay, in fact they tended to be the opposition. The image of Tori as the old woman shouting from their garden was a rather funny one. “Yolo just infuriates me,” she said, “sure, embrace life or whatever but it’s pretty clear that we only live once…” she trailed off, “unless you believe in reincarnation I guess.”
Tumblr media
“Good. If you do become one please let me know. I’ve always wanted to see one in the wild,” she teased. She wasn’t afraid to admit that she was one of those people that could sit there and watch videos of Karens for hours. It was a great way to pass the time sometimes. “I think reincarnation would be kind of cool but I have a feeling I wasn’t anyone famous in a past life. Past me probably did something dumb to die. Like drink bad water or fall off a cliff or something like that. I definitely wasn’t a princess or a queen or anything like that.”

“I think my brain’s stills catching up to how this all happened so fucking fast.” Such was the nature of the unexpected, which he knows logically, but logic and he were playing catch up and he was losing.
He keeps moving forwards, putting more distance between the pair of them and the spread of fire that he had been battling against minutes prior, regarding her with curiosity.
Tumblr media
“Where were you when it broke out? Were you hurt?” If so, he would need to realign the objective of his current stride.
That’s exactly what Tori had been wondering as well. How did something like this happen so fast? It was like one minute everyone was enjoying the fair and the next all hell literally broke out with a fire destroying everything around them. Now wasn’t the time to try to figure that out though.
She shook her head at his question. “I’m fine. I had found a semi quiet spot and was just getting ready to call my dad when I heard screaming.” Thankfully she had moved out of the way so she hadn’t gotten hurt by the crowd. “What about you? You alright?”

open to: anyone!

“Wait, no, don’t follow me.” He advises, while he was doing as Jalen had directed in containing the spread of red flames, he was also doing what he considered his own personal what not to do when it came to fire – running towards the heat.
That’s when he swivels for a brief detour, leading them away from the embattled fire site that seemed to be losing for now, to a safer proximity.
“You good?”
Tumblr media
The only thing that Tori feared in this world was fire. Even just thinking about it sent shivers down her back and made her heart race. Now that she was basically surrounded by it? It felt like her heart would never slow down.
Glancing around for a way out, she started following what seemed like the only person still left in this area. At first she doubted her decision but once she saw that he was leading them somewhere safer, she sighed in relief. “Besides basically having a panic attack I’m fine. What about you?”

Alara had been abrupt, perhaps down to the adrenaline or maybe the disagreement she had with her boyfriend just moments before. Colt had run off and so, Alara would too; it was ridiculous when she thought about it, but she didn’t have time to dwell as the fire spread quickly. Only then did she stop to look at the woman’s features, stressed, numb … maybe both. “Are you okay?” Alara called out over the noise, concerned. “I think ther—” But she grabbed the bin and helped her without another word, pushing it against the fence and allowing Aly to get up on top, then jump to the other side.
Sikiş Aşkına. She cursed under her breath as she tried to get the gate open, watching as the crowds began to bottleneck not too far away. “Hey —” Aly called out again, pointing to the bottom of the gate that had buried itself into the ground beneath. “Hey, are you able to get over to help?” She asked, having a thought. “Or push? You push, I’ll pull and I— I’m sure it’ll open up.” Aly hoped. She prayed.
Tumblr media
Tori forced herself to nod though it felt like her heart was about to burst out of her chest. “Snakes. Spiders. Heights. Hell even public speaking. I’m all fine and dandy with all those. Fire though? Now that’s the one thing that scares the hell out of me,” she admitted, taking a few deep breaths to claim herself. Now wasn’t the time to be freaking out and as long as she didn’t stare at the fire and focused on helping, she would be fine. She sighed in relief that they were able to get the trash bin moved and Alara was able to get to the other side.
Looking from the crowds to where Alara pointed, she nodded her head again. “Pushing? I can definitely do that.” She just hoped it would actually work. If not there was no telling what would happen to all of them. Moving closer to the gate, she started pushing like Alara had said.

She laughed, “now that sounds like the perfect role for me.” Imogen had never done a dance class aside from those mandatory ones in school but she’d never showed much of a prowess for it. “Old lady that likes to yell…” she mulled it over, “I’m sold.” She listened to the words that Tori rattled off, “kip is a nap, like you go for a kip,” she stated, “and knackered is really tired.” She paused, “I’m knackered so I’m going to go for a kip.” Imogen found herself laughing again, “that really is lucky or I’d be having to take this milkshake to go.”
Tumblr media
“Just as long as you don’t become a Karen. The world already has too many of those. Though I have a feeling if people started dancing for no reason, I think we all might become Karens,” Tori said with a laugh. “My dream has always been to be the old crazy lady with the scary looking house who yells at kids. I mean who doesn’t want to yell for no reason?” She jokingly winked at Imogen with a smile on her face. “Kip and knackered. Alright. Funny words but kind of fun to say. Glad I don’t go around saying yolo. Those people are annoying as hell.”

Imogen laughed softly at the thought, she had to be honest she’d never really thought of it like that. “Honestly I have no idea,” she smiled, “but if it was a musical I’d be screwed because I can’t sing or dance.” Imogen had never tried too hard at either thing but they certainly didn’t come naturally to her. “I mean I think most people just stayed in their villages,” she said. Imogen often stumbled upon words that didn’t seem to translate too well, ones that she had no idea were country specific. “Far too many to list,” she admitted, “queue pushing is certainly one of them,” she said, “and people who say yolo.”
Tumblr media
“Well then there’s a simple solution for that. You’d be the person that wouldn’t do either. You’d be the one complaining about everyone who just starts dancing in random places and ruins your day. I think the Hollywood name for that character is the old lady that likes to yell,” Tori teased. “I would love to learn some of those words you Brits use that we Americans don’t. Like what’s a kip? Also what’s knackered?” She asked. There were so many words she heard in movies yet didn’t know what they meant. “Shot. You saying in need to stop saying yolo? Dang. Glad I didn’t get that tattoo like I was planning.”

STARTER: open (capping at five)
LOCATION: mideastern georgia state fair
In the blink of an eye, the air descended into chaos — Shrieks of laughter became screams of terror, hundreds of people began to scatter and flames engulfed one of the rides, spreading quickly. For a minute she had stood and watched, both her and Colt alerted by the distressed cries of animals. They had looked at each other, realising the traps didn’t release. And then, they started bickering.
She stormed off in frustration once he had left to be a hero, refusing to stand back in safety and watch as hell rose from the dead and Iron River burned to a crisp. No. She would help, no matter what Colt wanted her to do, or not. “Hey, hey you —” Alara ran up to another person and tapped them on the shoulder. “Can you help me?” She asked, grabbing a giant trash bin. “I need to jump over the fence to release the gate, more exit routes for everyone.”
Tumblr media
There wasn’t much Tori was afraid of in this world. After living on her own and travelling around the country she had learned it was best not to be afraid of anything. Not if she wanted to live a happy life. Fire though? That was completely different. That was one thing that sent shivers down her spine just thinking about it. And now that hell had broken lose at the fair, she wasn’t sure what to do. It was almost like she was frozen in her spot as she watched what was happening around her. Feeling a tap on her shoulder, she turned around and nodded at what the girl said. “Sure. Of course.” She grabbed the trash bin, helping to move it where Alara needed it.

open to anyone! @ironriverstarters
capping at 5 (correspondence to the plot drop!)
Tumblr media
In her efforts to get away from the heat of intolerable flames, Narin clumsily falls face first into needles the barricades and then piles of muddy ash. From the distance, she can hear sirens wailing, the drowning chorus of petrified screams as fair goers scatter. But all she can feel is the crushing weight of someone’s foot stopping on her hand as she attempts to army crawl away from the hell that’s broken loose. A hoarse curse leaves her lips and as she yells for help, she manages to reach for the next passerby’s leg. “Can you give me a hand please?” Her left hand (the same one that was trampled on) feels broken, as she tries to clench her fingers.
Tumblr media
After spending the day hanging out with her parents at the fair, Tori was wondering around by herself when all hell broke lose. She was beyond grateful that her parents had headed home early. With her mother’s health issues this was the last place she needed to be. Glancing at the burning ride, she stepped out of the way of the scattering fair goers. It was best just to stay out of the way as much as she could. Feeling someone touching her leg, she looked down and frowned at the sight. She bent down, helping the girl move to the side to avoid getting even more hurt. “How about I sit you up and make sure you’re not hurt?”

“A terrible kisser?” Nathan looked at her with playful shock. If he really wanted to be mean, he could have brought up the fact that she went out to find someone better. But decided to keep it light and playful. “Hopefully you’ve found better since then.” Part of him did want to know if she had moved on throughout the years. He knew that he did. But, he wanted her to be happy and with someone that truly mattered to her. “Oh are you?”  He raised an eyebrow, wondering what else he could get out of her.  “But please, Mr. Tate was my father. The kids here usually call me Coach. And the adults called me Nate.” He told her before letting out a laugh. “You always had a thing for my butt.” He smirked. “We should still make it happen. Just let me know when is the best time. My office is outside of the locker rooms and next to the training room.”
Tumblr media
“I wouldn’t call him the best kisser but then again I’ve had worse. Let’s just say that he’d at least make the top five of people I’ve kissed. I’ve definitely had better since then.” She was grateful that he didn’t bring up the fact that she cheated on him. After how this conversation started it was best just to keep everything as light as they could. “Oh yes. I’m a very blunt person. Some have even said I probably don’t have a filter and honestly they’re probably right.” They fact that she was so blunt was one of her many faults. “Does anyone call you Nath anymore or was that just me?” It had been something she had come up with just to be different than his friends and family. “Well what can I say? It is a cute butt. Ever think of nude modeling? And yes. We definitely have to make that happen. I’ll stop by sometime to set up a date.”

“That’s the idea.” Looking back at Brock, anyone could see that the old guy was a miserable bastard. But despite knowing that, Xavier couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. He liked to think, he wasn’t always so hard to deal with. Something must’ve just snapped inside of him. “Need help finding anything else? I come here a lot,” more than he cares to admit “so, I’m happy to assist. Save you and your wallet all the precious pennies.”
Tumblr media
“I kind of pity him sometimes. It can’t be any fun chasing away teens all day long as they try to buy alcohol with fake IDs.” It did make her wonder if it was true that they kept all the fakes they confiscated over the years. If that really was true they probably still had a couple of hers back there. “What do you recommend for wine? My parents asked me to pick some up for Shabbat dinner. They finally got the rabbi to come over for it and want to impress him.”

She laughed, shaking her head, “oh no I am not a pretty crier,” she stated plainly, “I think those women only exist in movies.” She was rather enjoying the random fact, and even moreso when she found out that it was a car that the person had been driving. “Well I am very relieved that they go faster than that now!” She opened her mouth in mock shock at the mention of everyone in England being snobs, “how dare you?” she stated before laughing, making it clear that she was joking. She laughed again as her vocabularly was pulled into question, “that isn’t a word here?” she questioned, “it’s like an annoyance, something is a bugbear if it rubs you the wrong way or annoys you.”
Tumblr media
“Have you ever thought about what life would be like if it was like a movie? Would people really just burst out singing and dancing? Now that would be entertaining but also just make me wonder how everyone knew the dance moves,” she joked. “Just imagine how back in the day it took like a week just to go a hundred miles. I think I’d give up after just a day.” Tori shrugged, “I call it as I see it. Also most of my knowledge comes from movies. We all know how accurate those are and you can’t convince me otherwise.” Crossing her arms over her chest, she stuck her tongue out at her before laughing. “Maybe it is a word here. I just never heard it before. Any other bugbears you have?”

“That is true, and hey–I’m sure people who live there enjoy it,” he chuckled softly before nodding at her words. “Thank God you said that, otherwise I honestly would’ve been devastated. And no definitely not,” he told her with a smile, “I mean sometimes I do fall asleep watching true crime, which results in some interesting nightmares…that’s for sure.” As Ozan put forth the challenge, he waited to see what other occupations she came up with before ultimately shaking his head. “I mean, I do look good in a suit so no argument there, but not every single day. Just for special occasions, you know?” Her responses had him sighing before he shrugged, “maybe I’ll give you education since I’m actually…drumroll please, a personal trainer at the gym. So I mean..I do ‘educate’ people on how to stay in shape or get into shape.”
Tumblr media
“People actually enjoy living in New York? Really? Huh. I think you just blew my mind with that statement,” Tori joked. “Honestly it was close on who’s cuter. People say my dad kind of looks like Robert De Niro so…” She winked at him before laughing. “I don’t know what’s worse. Falling asleep watching the news or true crime. Either way they’re both boring as hell so definitely don’t blame you for that.” Looking him over, she tried to picture him in a gym. “You’re not pulling my leg right now, right? You’re really a trainer at a gym and not like a cop or doctor or something like that? Well now I feel bad that I’m sitting here pigging out on pie. Then again not that bad though since this pie is way too good.”

open starter @ironriverstarters
( capping at 6 please )
Rather than splurge on his second, yes second, tattoo this week - Xavier decided he’d hit up the Five and Dime on his way home instead. He was in the middle of perusing the hard liquor aisle when he noticed a stranger in his peripheral vision struggling to reach something high on one of the top shelves. Hoping to pay it forward, Xav did what any decent human being would and jumped in to help, catching a glass bottle before it splashed off the shelf and was obliterated to waste. “Careful. The Old man who runs this place would make you pay for that. And probably charge you extra just for clean up.”
Tumblr media
Tori would never admit that she needed help reaching high shelves. Despite being average height there was some places where she struggled to reach things. The liquor store was always one of those places. Why did they have to keep her favorite stuff on the highest shelf possible? It was like the world was telling her she shouldn’t be drinking or maybe it was just the old man that ran this place getting back at her for pranking him when she was a teen. She hadn’t even realized she knocked something down. “Thanks for that. Knowing him he’d probably charge me double for breaking one of his precious bottles and making him clean something up.”

austynjett:
Tumblr media
“We may have to come back later, Lake. It seems that all of the seats are full.” Austyn spoke, allowing herself to back at her son as he looked around the diner. Tina’s Diner had been a regular place of visiting since Lake had started kindergarten. They’d come here for a milkshake late Friday afternoon to celebrate making it through another week of school, and the tradition had yet to stop. In fact, over the course of the past five years, it had grown to adding more to the order, usually french fries or onion rings, but sometimes full meals. Tonight was simply a milkshake night complete with pizza being delivered to their house in a few hours, but with all of the seats full, Austyn was disappointed they may have to put the milkshake treat off until later. Of course she hadn’t heard the other offer the seat across from them, but Lake had, pointing towards her and bringing her attention to his mom. “I’m sorry, are you sure you don’t mind?” she asked when Lake had told her exactly what she’d offered, scooting himself into the booth. “Thank you, truly. We shouldn’t be too long.” she smiled as Lake looked at the pie in front of the other. “My mom doesn’t usually even let me get one piece of pie!” he fussed, looking at the  blonde and Austyn shook her head. “What Lake here seems to be forgetting is that he doesn’t like pie.” she laughed. “We usually get milkshakes from here, but sometimes we splurge on the cookies. Have you tried those?” she smiled. “Oh, I’m Austyn by the way. And this is Lake.”
Tumblr media
In a small town like this it wasn’t uncommon to offer up a seat at your table if there was room. It was one thing she loved about towns like this. Everyone seemed to care about each other, and no one was ever a stranger for long. After being away from Iron River for over a decade she had found it a great way to get to know everyone again. “Of course I don’t mind. Besides I’d feel guilty if you and your son had to leave because you couldn’t find a seat. Stay as long as you want.” She assumed it was the woman’s son but it was hard to tell. He might be her nephew or cousin or just someone she was babysitting. “My mom didn’t like my siblings and I having sweets when I was little expect for the holidays. She always said we’d end up with cavities. My brother and I would sneak here on the weekends for milkshakes despite being lactose intolerant. I only ended up with two cavities,” she admitted with a laugh. “I think we all know milkshakes are better than pie,” she smiled at Lake. “The cookies are amazing especially the chocolate chip. Nice to meet you Austyn and Lake. I’m Tori. So I’m guessing you two are regulars to Tina’s? Good choice.”

“Well, if I’m being honest, I don’t know who you are. We just met after all.” Nathan smirked, playing devils advocate. He did think that the world needed less individuals who just were angry and mean. No one knew what would happen if everyone was full of sunshine and rainbows. There were definitely some movies and books about it, but those were all hearsay. Nathan just wanted everyone to be happy with the life that they were given. It was a miracle that they even had life at all. “I’ll always be here.” Nathan said softly, knowing that it was true. “Excuse me miss, are you flat out flirting with me?” Nathan teased his ex. The two of them did have history and that was hard to deny. They were back where they were when they were falling in love with each other. This entire place had history and memories. “We definitely have time on our hands so I will force them to go. Especially the upcoming seniors.”
Tumblr media
“Oh yeah. That’s right. We did just meet though you do look very familiar. Think I might just be confusing you for this guy I dated in high school. Handsome but a terrible kisser,” she teased trying to get a rise out of him like she used to do when they were younger. She nodded at what he said, glad to know someone would be there for her when she needed them. It would be easier to get through everything with Nate around. “Believe me Mr. Tate if I was flirting with you, you’d know it. No question about that. I’m very blunt when it comes to that stuff.” They may be back where they had fallen in love but she didn’t have any romantic feelings left for her ex. That was the past and that’s how it would stay. “Nice butt,” she looked him over with a smirk before bursting out laughing. “Think the girls in my club would love taking photos of your players though I have a feeling they might have a hard time not giggling during it.”

zoeykennedy:
“You should,” she suggested, leaning back into the sofa chair comfortably. “I consider every time I remember to do my laundry before I run out of clothes a cause for celebration. I don’t throw any parties but a whole pizza for one sorta does the trick, you know?” At the mention of chocolate pie, the brunette perked, already salivating. “Sounds delicious.” The waitress then brings over Zoey’s drink, taking their pie order promptly. Running from men her parents owed favors too sure did work up an appetite. The younger Kennedy wasn’t much of a listener, despite sitting before the blonde, practically hearing her whole life story. On any given day, Zoey would be pretty annoyed by it, but this chick just seemed way too wholesome for her own good. She found it endearing, almost. “That makes sense,” she notes, letting the woman, who she now knew as Tori, continue. “Zoey,” she returns politely, folding her arms across her chest. “I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who gave away their stories out so easily,” she says bluntly, her tone light, laced with interest. “Not that that’s your whole story— I’m just curious… are you always so open?”
Tumblr media
“Now that is great thing to celebrate especially with a pizza. I have a bad habit of waiting until I have nothing to wear before finally doing laundry. Once I was so lazy that when I ran out of underwear I just went out and bought more instead of washing some,” she admitted with a laugh. Doing laundry while living out of her car wasn’t the easiest thing to do but she usually managed to find laundromats to go to. “Lovely name,” Tori complimented. Even though they had just met there was something about the girl that fascinated her. Maybe it was the fact that she didn’t care about using a person to pay for everything. There had to be an interesting story behind someone like that. “When you travel around as much as I do you learn what to be open about and what to keep to yourself. I only ever give people the bare minimum when it comes to my life story. Mainly I focus on my career since that’s a safe topic of conversation. The fact that I haven’t been back here for thirteen years is just something most people in this town seem to know but you know how small towns can be. Hard to keep a secret in a place like this.”

“I have to admit to not seeing the floppy hats as much, at least not in New York,” he chuckled before shrugging, “but I guess they have them here because the sun is so much stronger?” When Tori spoke about Ozan sounding like her father, he had to wrinkle his nose and shake his head. “And here I thought this interaction was going so well…but if I sound like your father, we’ve got problems.” As she spoke about how she liked living the way she did, he had to smile because it was strong for someone to accept that not everyone was in agreement of their lifestyle but still held no grievances towards them. “Is that the impression I give off?” He shrugged before giving her another head shake. “How about I give you one more try to guess what I do, and if you don’t get it…I’ll tell you.”
Tumblr media
“Well New York is different. Tourists there run around in baseball hats, sneakers, and those ‘I heart NY’ shirts. Does the sun even shine in New York?” Tori asked with a laugh. “Well in your defense you are a lot cuter than my father. Plus I’m sure you don’t fall asleep in front of the TV every night while watching the news. Or maybe you do. No judgement here if that’s how you spend your evenings,” she jokingly winked at him. It wasn’t unusual to find her father sleeping in a recliner in front of the TV. It actually became a joke in her family to take selfies with him when he was sleeping like that. “I just think you’d look handsome in a suit. Fine. How about a model or a news anchor? Something in the medical field? Or maybe education? Am I close?”
