Starscream didn’t have many friends. Not any he could trust, at least. Oh, some of it was self-inflicted, but a lot of it was also being subjected to noblility that just wanted a claim to some kind of power from the Vosnian ruling family. The number diminished when he had come to the Science Academy. Not many outside of Vos thought highly of seekers looking to further their education. As if the fools had any idea what kind of system Vos boasted. They never looked further than the surface.
He met them as they met him. With defiance and suspicion.
The only exception was one other student. A shuttle who had been assigned as his lab partner. The first few weeks had been tense. The shuttle was, for all intents and purposes, opposite of Starscream in nature. He was quiet, a pushover, shy-
And almost as brilliant as Starscream himself.
Perhaps, ultimately, it was the lack of hostility and eagerness to draw him into discussions related to their major that had drawn Starscream in.

You worried about them hating you and pitying you, but look how things ended up: they're the one being hated by you and pity is nonexistent.
