I'm currently enrolled in two certification courses. I know how to do these things, but I feel like, with a certification, clients are bound to take me more seriously. I read an article about nine steps to freelance success that I believe apply to all businesses. 1️⃣ Set your long term goals. 1️⃣ Long term goals for me are to be working 30+ hours a week on contract by this time next year. I don’t necessarily need to make a six figure income but I’m sure my husband wouldn’t hate me for it. I want to supplement our family income so I can help pay for sports costs during the year. TRUST THE JOURNEY… Being a stay-at-home mom and working as a virtual assistant will allow me to do this. I’ve already envisioned myself working the hours my kids are in school. If my math does me right my financial goal would be around $500 a week. Broken down that comes out to a little less than $18/hour. In my mind 3 of those hours would be steady client work that is repetitive and 3 would be set aside for freelance work which seems to be less steady but more instant income. My ideal customer would need me for editing and writing mostly but once I wowed them when my words they’d realize all the other good things I can offer their business. I spoke the other day about not being a salesperson but what I am is a writer. I could pull a twenty page term paper out of my ear I can easily put words to paper to make even the most inexperienced solopreneur sound like the next billionaire genius of our time. Fellow Instagram user and Virtual Assistant @susietrigtucker posted a question the other day and it caught my attention: HOW CAN YOU SELL YOUR CLIENTS ON YOU IF YOU AREN'T SOLD ON YOU? This brings up a great sales conundrum for me. I've never been comfortable in a straight sales position. I'm am the worst at being a salesman for myself as well. I have no trouble making suggestions on how I could help a person or a project, but to openly scream from the rooftops: HERE I AM COME AND GET ME!!! doesn't seem genuine in its delivery in my world. I know what I can do great. When I work on volunteer projects everyone becomes my biggest fan. When I have taken the initiative to think ahead of problems that may arise, I've been praised. So here is my attempt in explaining what I can do that would make you want to hire me to be your virtual assistant: ✨I'm a great writer. Even typing that I'm the first to downplay my abilities, but really I can adapt my writing style to fit the situation. If I'm writing to parents of the local youth football and cheer team I can use the kind of language that parents respond to. If needed though I can bring out formal language that uses legal, sales, and advertising vocabulary perfectly. ✨I'm great with a to-do list. I hate to be micromanaged, but if you get me a to-do list and a goal finishes time or date I can get through them as fast as my fingers can type. ✨Communication. I feel like sometimes I over-communicate. I love email and different apps like ClickUp because I can comment on things I'm working on and keep people up to date without flooding their email boxes with emails. ✨Experience. I've worked in more than a few industries and for more than a few different departments in those industries. The only way to really know if I can help someone like you is to ask. The simple stuff is always something I can handle, but I'm up for anything new as well.
