Dang Freaking Flu or Cold
So, I had planned on updating The Nightingale today but of course I’ve come down with one heck of a bug that has laid me flat. Seriously I slept like fifteen hours straight last night and most of the day. Was only able to get out of bed to rush to the bathroom. Now I’m congested and feeling like absolute crap T_T.
As soon as I’m feeling better I’ll get on that update for my fic, I have everything ready for it and when my face stops looking like Ritsu’s whenever Takano confesses to him I’ll get right on it.

I totally write for myself, it's so therapeutic and it helps me in so many ways. It's just a coincidence that other people seem to enjoy my writing and I am so grateful for that! <3

The Rules of Marketing Your Fic
This is by no means an ‘official’ writing guide, not backed by studies or science. Say rather it’s the things I’ve observed, trial-and-error over my going-on-twenty years of writing and publishing fics online.
1. Starting out in a new fandom
The first stage is participation. You need to get to know your territory, and make yourself known to the territory. Look around. Find the hubs of fandom activity and, if they are open to newcomers, join them.
Participate in discussions. Look at other people’s creations and comment on them.
Create things that are integrative and participatory: kink memes, contests, writing memes that are going around. Read, analyze, and add your own thoughts to meta posts.
Get people used to seeing your name and face (or icon.)
2. Producing your own content in the fandom
When you feel that you have a) read enough in the fandom to get the lay of the land and b) participated enough that your presence is known, you can start producing more of your own content that is not integrative or participatory.
You can subvert the local memes and conventions (in fact, that’s a great way to make interesting content) but you have to know what they are first.
3. Gaining and maintaining a reader base
If people comment on your stuff, if your time and/or social spoons allow, answer them! Your goal is not just to passively collect reader attention but to cultivate a relationship with your readers. Positive feedback encourages desired behavior!
A few guidelines for replying to readers:

As a reader, as a writer, and as a fan I can’t think of a single website that has given me more happiness than Archive of Our Own. Thank you so much to everyone who works so hard to make it such a wonderful place.

Fictober 2019

Here is the list for October this year. Write something short (or long) and tag it with #fictober19. Let’s see your creativity!
“It will be fun, trust me.”
“Just follow me, I know the area.”
“Now? Now you listen to me?”
“I know you didn’t ask for this.”
“I might just kiss you.”
“Yes, I’m aware. Your point?”
“No, and that’s final.”
“Can you stay?”
“There is a certain taste to it.”
“Listen, I can’t explain it, you’ll have to trust me.”
“It’s not always like this.”
“What if I don’t see it?”
“I never knew it could be this way.”
“I can’t come back.”
“That’s what I’m talking about!”
“Listen. No, really listen.”
“There is just something about them/her/him.”
“Secrets? I love secrets.”
“Yes, I admit it, you were right.”
“You could talk about it, you know?”
“Change is annoyingly difficult.”
“We could have a chance.”
“You can’t give more than yourself.”
“Patience… is not something I’m known for.”
“I could really eat something.”
“You keep me warm.”
“Can you wait for me?”
“Enough! I heard enough.”
“I’m doing this for you.”
“I’m with you, you know that.”
“Scared, me?”
This event is open to all fanfiction and original fiction.
Start October the First. You do not have to do the prompts in order. Tag your posts with #fictober19. Please state if your entry is original fiction or fanfiction and what fandom at the top. State common warnings and triggers at the top and tag accordingly. I reserve the right to not reblog fics that I find inappropriate. I will reblog things here on @fictober-event, follow this blog to see all the entries.
Go forth and write!

Reader Appreciation
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that has read my fics on Ao3 and on here. It helps give me motivation to try and write more and better quality content.I want to show my love for the Kudos and Hearts and reposts of my works. Most of all I want to give a heart felt thank you to all of those that have left encouraging comments on how much they love the stories or the very helpful tips that have made it possible to write better stories. You are all so important to me and give me so many good feelings about myself and my abilities to entertain people and return to doing something I’d loved and lost. You’ve all helped me return to something that once gave me so much pleasure that I hadn’t had the motivation to do in such a long time. Again, thank you so very much. <3

I understand about being nervous. Though I’ve met some really great people by getting over my shyness and leaving a few words of appreciation. Then conversations began and it was awesome. That’s why I always try to reply to every comment left on my fic, I know it meant a lot to me and if I could return a bit of that it makes me happy. Though, kudos are reaaaaally nice too!
Unpopular Fandom Opinion
Don’t feel guilty if you can’t comment on fics. You are not the shittiest fan on earth and you aren’t tearing the writer’s heart out and stomping on it while you read free fiction without “paying.”
Look I don’t care why you don’t comment. But if you sit there after reading my fic and feel a sense of dread while looking at a blank comment form, then do us both a favor and just hit the kudos button. I want you to be entertained. I want you to walk away smiling or…idk turned on or, really, anything positive. If all you feel is guilt, how is that fun for anyone?

*LOL* I actually just posted an update to my fic on Tumblr. I don’t know if it does anything either but I like to keep those that follow me informed. Some of my followers like and reblog so I believe that any added traffic is good because there’s a chance of attracting a new reader. It’s not necessary but I’m pretty sure it’s appreciated. I just hope it doesn’t annoy people, that’s the only thing I worry about.
I was wondering about reblogging a fic update post on Tumblr after I've made it. Most of the people who like/reblog my post don't follow me directly. So, I was wondering if there was any point to me doing this, or if it makes no difference in the number of people who see the post.
I don’t know if it really makes a difference or not, and that probably varies from fandom to fandom. I do know that some of my friends appreciated the tumblr heads up because the saw the posts here faster than they saw notifications in their email from AO3. Plus, when I made posts here, it let people send them to friends through messages (even if they didn’t reblog).
If you’re not feeling it, then I don’t think it’s a necessary thing to do. But if you don’t mind make the post? It might help.
Let’s see what everyone else thinks.
