HI i just read the latest chapter of your Kokushibo fanfic and omg!! IT WAS SO GOOD!! Akaza’s beef with Kaiguku had me laughing sooo much hahaha but omg you had me like this 👀 when Reader held Akaza’s wrist…please tell me they end up together because now i totally ship them 😭 i have no idea how they would even end up together but whenever he is worrying about her im going crazy LMAO
The blonde girl who was eavesdropping on Shinobu and the group was a shrine maiden that Reader knew right? I think i remember her when Reader first fought with Kokushibo so I’m very intrigued. Also, my guess is that the person Gyomei will send is Reader’s brother! 🤭
I’m currently in the midst of my exams and assignments, so i read this a little late but thank you again for writing this amazing fanfic like literally you are the person who made me a Kokushibo fan (we need another appearance from him hehe) Have a good day💓
EEEEE THANK UUUUUU!!! Im happy u enjoyed the latest chapter and TRUST ME i just got out of a geography exam so i understand 😭
AND YEAH UR RIGHT, Blonde girl is the shrine maiden and will be explained in the next chapter :) cant wait to write it and explain it then lol. Kaigaku really is like a chihuahua tryna fight with a bigger dog LMAO-
ANDDDDD I LOVE THE SHIP CONCEPT. Cant really say who or if reader will end up with anyone but it gave me proper chance to use this ship dynamic----

"[F/N], If you could just think about it for a second.." The counsellor said, Resetting the devil-horn glasses upon her face.
The hum of the fluorescent lights above her droned into [F/N]'s ear like a cicada, The equally annoying rotations of the fan not doing much to soothe her headache either. It wasn't just the noise too but also the uncomfortably designed office chair that she lazed on, Digging into her back.
She was sat within the office of the youth centre's counsellor's office. A room with cool grey walls decorated with motivational posters with smiling faces and overly-positive quotes, Sunlight shining through the shutters onto the polished wooden floorings being the only lighting in here.
The counsellor herself was a rather dim looking woman with dark hair tied into a tidy bun, One that was as clean cut as the tailored grey suit she wore. Her posture straightened and perfect, Green eyes staring at her from behind the red rims of her pointed glasses.
A caring woman, One that meant the best at heart. Not in it for the money but certainly from a place of love and meaning. Though that didn't much to lighten [F/N]'s mood.
She sat lying upon the uncomfortable build of the chair, Much older than she was back then with her legs spread out and her arms folded in. She was sunken into her chair, Like she had just woken up from a nap upon it. Yet her eyes were wide open and rolled at the woman's words.
"I don't want to, No way." [F/N] huffed as she kicked her feet lightly at the desk of the counsellor. Whose red lipstick turned down into a frown as she sat in her office chair, Clicking her pen.
"There are families out there who want to adopt you, [F/N]. This couple seems to be a really good pick, High income and already have children of their own. They're interested in taking you in, Dear." The counsellor said, Sliding over a pamphlet towards [F/N].
[F/N] picked it up but she barely looked at it, Running her eyes over the information put down before huffing and pushing it back down.
"Yeah they seem lovely. But I don't care, I don't want to be adopted. I've got stuff to do here and it said there that they live all the way in Nagano." [F/N] explained, Almost exasperated as if it was the thousandth time she'd explained it. Tossing her head to the side and folding her arms once more.
The counsellor sighed, Looking down towards the top of her desk.
"[F/N].. I understand how you feel. Tetsuya's death was hard on all of us, But you need to understand that it was a wil-"
"IT WASN'T A WILD ANIMAL!" [F/N] slammed her fists down onto the table, Finally leaning up from her chair and staring daggers into the startled counsellor.
It stood for what seemed like minutes, Eyes connected to each other. The fire burning in [F/N]'s eyes however shook when she suddenly sighed, Then slumped over back into her chair.
The counsellor gulped, Making sure her glasses were in place before speaking once more.
"..I apologise, I shouldn't of brought it up.." She started, Shaking her head. "But I worry about you, [F/N]. You keep going out into those woods and barely spend any time here anymore, Not to mention your ramblings to your peers.."
[F/N] tossed her head to the side in a rather juvenile display, Her nose scrunched up in disgust at what she said.
"No one ever believes me.. It wasn't a wild animal.. It just wasn't. You seen the autopsy, You can't say that it was some starving bear!" [F/N] exclaimed, Raising her arms into the air before flopping them back down to emphasise her point.
"There isn't any other explanation for it. Those woods do tend to be bursting with all sorts of animals and besides, What else could it be?" The counsellor said, Brushing off the shoulder-pads.
[F/N]'s face hardened, A solemn look washing across her face as she leaned over on her chair. Eyes dead-set on the eyes of the woman opposite of her as she spoke.
"A demon. A demon killed Tetsuya." She whispered as quiet as the morning wind. Her eyes furious and determined, A kind of fire burning through them as her stone-cold face mumbled those words.
The counsellor sighed, Nodding as if she had heard those words a thousand times before. She shuffled as few papers on her desk, Aligning them well before setting them beside her in finality.
"..There is no such thing as demons, [F/N]." She spoke quietly. "What you saw out there was traumatising, Yes.. But blaming it on some imaginary creatures won't do you any good." The counsellor said, Seeming to put a firmer foot down as she leaned over to meet [F/N] face to face.
[F/N]'s jaw clenched shut, Leaning back over into her chair with a rigid back. Her clenched fists shook, Trying her best not to act on what she was so tempted to do.
She mumbled something under her breath. The counsellor blinked, Leaning forward.
"What was that?" She asked, Tilting her head.
"DEMONS EXIST AND THEY KILLED TETSUYA! WHY WON'T ANYONE BELIEVE ME?!" [F/N] screamed suddenly, Jerking up from her seat and snapping at the woman's face. The counsellor yelped, Jolting back into her office chair.
[F/N] got up from her chair, Not even bothering to look at the startled woman as she slung her bag over her shoulder and started to storm out of the room. An angry march as the counsellor recomposed herself.
"[F/N]! Where are you going..?!" She called out, Watching as the girl didn't even falter as she walked off towards the door. [F/N] didn't turn back to face her, Only gripped the fake gold of the door handle.
"I'm getting out of here, Can't breathe clear in this stupid place.." She hissed lowly before yanking the door open and marching out of the counsellors office. Door slamming shut with a thump.
And then, She was alone.
[F/N] stood dead within the empty hall, After storming out and slamming the door she didn't really have a destination to go to. So she stayed put, Looking at the sunlight pouring in through the windows lining the long hall, Almost appreciating it.
She couldn't go back to her room, That was a pigsty. It was always infested with insects crawling about and no matter how much bug spray she used, They never seemed to leave her in peace. So that was a no go.
The playrooms, The little library, The kitchens or the TV room where she spent countless days in front of the screens. None of them seemed appealing anymore. What use to be the apple in Eden was nothing but a rotting core now, So disgusting and unappetizing.
It was suppose to be a leisure, A relaxation.
But it never was anymore, It just couldn't be.
Not without Tetsuya.
[F/N] clicked her tongue, Sighing a short breath. The air here was too stuffy, Too suffocating to be called oxygen. She needed to go somewhere that's fresher, Somewhere she could properly think.
So her legs drove her forward. Through the long winding corridors, Past all the colourful fliers pinned up on the corkboard, All the doors with pleasantries and laughing hiding behind them were discarded in favour of the reception.
The dreary old woman sitting at the desk didn't even look up from her trashy magazine as [F/N] stormed by, Not even bothering to take a glance at who was leaving through the double glass doors. The little bell chiming above not helping her case.
As soon as she was out, [F/N] was hit with the brisk brush of the air against her skin. Her hair lifting lightly at the sensation as she was met with the mid-day sun, The celestial body shining down at her so happily from it's cobalt throne.
[F/N] couldn't feel the same as her shoes tapped against the stone tiles leading up to the youth centre doors. There wasn't anyone else about apart from the insects crawling about in the bushes or the tiles lining the centre's perimeter.
She reached the point where the stone tiles met the bare pavement, Splitting off into three streams. Though instead of travelling down one she made her way to the rickety old bench lining one of the pavements, Plopping down with the wood creaking at her weight.
"Finally.." [F/N] mumbled to herself as she was finally blessed with the fresh atmosphere. A relief as she took in the invigorating air, A moment of solitude rarely found in her everyday life and one she wanted to take in for a moment.
It was quiet too, This street wasn't as busy since it wasn't as close to the city centre. Few cars passed by to cause any noise, The only sound coming from the fenced off park parallel from the youth centre, The sound of children laughing playing basketball her only white noise.
That was good, There wasn't anyone about to see her next act.
[F/N] hummed as she shoved her hand in her side bag, Fishing around the abundance of objects stored inside before she felt the soft touch of a pretty pink pouch grace her fingers. [F/N] smiled, Pulling it out.
"Better have some left.." [F/N] muttered, And she thought she did. As she unlaced the string that opened the pouch she was met with the face of several cigarettes, A stolen item she had snuck from one of the staff's lockers.
All of them were coloured differently, Rolled in vivid paper.
Watermelon, Grape, Candy Floss and Bubble-gum were only a few of their flavours. They were cool, That's what she thought anyways. Even though she didn't watch TV that much anymore, All the super-cool adults on there always had one of these hanging from their mouth.
Well, Not the flavoured ones like she had. But she didn't like the taste of tobacco, So the taste of sugar and sweetness would have to do.
"Three.. Two.. One.." [F/N] counted down, The cold lighter on her other hand sparking up with a rasping ember. The cigarette in her other, A favoured watermelon flavour, Blitzed up at the end.
With two fingers she placed it in her mouth, Careful to make sure she got the right end this time. Sweet smell of smoke drifting up in the air, She watched it rise from the burning end and as she breathed it back in.
Tetsuya. No one would ever believe her about what happened to him, No one. From the police officers and paramedic's that were present that day, They had all written it off as just some little kids ramblings.
The counsellors, The psychiatrists and the priests. All of them, Every single one had done the same. But [F/N] knew better, [F/N] knew what she had saw that day, She knew that it wasn't something of her world that done it to him.
But it was only her. [F/N]'s lips parted from the cigarette for only a second, Blowing out the sugared smoke from her throat. She'd never be able to convince anyone of the existence of demons, Not without evidence, That is.
She tossed the cigarette onto the pavement. Her sneakers raising then stomping down on the sugar-stick, Mushing out the flame on the stone to nothing but dying smoke.
[F/N] would find evidence, She'd make sure of it. She'd find who killed Tetsuya even if it meant she had to follow him to the next life, She would know the culprit.
Her hand absentmindedly wandered down to the open pouch, The candy coloured silk splayed open on the bench as she searched for the candy scented cigars.
But her hand didn't connect with the bristle of cigarette paper or the shroves of tobacco that should've been there. Her eyes widened for a second, Her head jerking round to meet the open pouch.
It was empty, Completely and utterly empty.
"What the.." [F/N]'s jaw dropped. There had been at least a dozen cigarettes laying atop the paper, All of them had been there since she sat down. She had made sure of it, So why were they missing?
Could she have knocked them over on accident? [F/N] leaned back to look at the muddy grass below the timbered bench, She came up with nothing but worms and weeds growing underneath.
Her hands slapped the pockets of her sweater, Feeling around to see if she misplaced them yet she came up empty. Where could they have gone? To the sides of the bench, On the pavement or perhaps she was sitting on them?
No, Even as she felt underneath her she felt no trace of those sweet little cigarettes.
It was only once she was shifting through the contents of her bag did she find a clue, One that seemed just under her nose.
Or above it in this case. [F/N] suddenly felt the bursting itch of the tiniest particles hitting the bridge of her nose. [F/N] jolted, The sensation amplified by the fact she didn't expect it in the slightest.
She stopped searching through her bag for just a moment, Hand jerking to her nose and rubbing at the irritating itch. But when she brought her hand back, Her eyes narrowed in on the small speck of her hand.
It was a shrove of tobacco.
[F/N] stared at it for a solid moment, Eyes locked in on the target. It seemed like it had came down from the heavens themselves, Like it had just floated down like snowfall on a December morning.
Then another, [F/N]'s eyes darted up to another shrove of tobacco floating down right in front of her vision. Another and another, It seemed to grow in numbers as every second passed by.
"What the hell is this.." [F/N] drawled out, Her hand extended to catch the snowflakes of cigar ash drifting down onto her palm. They were growing into a small bush, A small puddle of candy-smelling shroves coupled within her hands.
But where could they be coming from?
[F/N]'s head turned upwards, Neck craning to get a good look up at the sapphire sky above her. Blinking once she was only met with the wisping clouds floating about the atmosphere, Sun shining down at her.
But her eyes caught onto something else, Something metallic.
It was the streetlamp, One of the dozens lining the concrete pavement for miles but the only one that was standing above her. Still daytime it was off, But the streetlamp wasn't what she was focusing on.
Instead it was the boy hanging from it.
[F/N] jolted at the sight of him, Near falling off the bench as she realised his presence.
The boy was older than her, In his teen years and not in his tween's like [F/N] was. He was hunched over with horrid posture, Panda pouches under his golden eyes to match hers. He was strangely dressed too, A torn-at-the-tail overcoat drooping down from where he hung.
He was hanging like a bat from a cave spike, Legs locked around the branch of the streetlamp so loosely that he could fall at any moment. It was a wonder how he was still hanging on, But [F/N] was more interested in what he was doing.
His mouth was stuffed to the brim like a hamster, His hands grabbing clutches of tobacco and mashing it into his mouth. [F/N] stood there befuddled as she finally saw the clump of coloured cigar paper stuffed in his jacket pocket.
[F/N] gawked, Absolutely stunned.
"This candy sure is weird." The boy said to himself with a blank face, Seemingly not noticing [F/N] standing beneath him in shock. He shovelled another bush into his mouth, Watermelon flavoured to match the swamp green of his hair.
[F/N] gulped.
"How the.. W-Who the hell are you?! Why're you taking my bloody cigarettes?!" [F/N] exclaimed. It was the only thing she could think to say at the moment, Words flowing out of her mouth without a single thought behind them.
But it was the only thing she could say as the boy's sickly yellow eyes darted over to her, Seeming to finally notice her presence.
[F/N] couldn't help but shiver, For some reason feeling disturbed. Like a lion eyeing the lamb grazing in the field.
"Oh. They're mine now, They were laying out so I took them." He stated through a mouthful of her tobacco. An empty expression as he stared down at her, No regard for the fact that he had stolen her cigarettes.
Well they were stolen by her in the first place, But the sheer disregard of guilt for what he had did just made [F/N] all the more angry. Who did this guy think he is? Whoever he was he was weird as hell.
Hanging from the streetlamp? Chewing her tobacco? Not to mention that weird spike sitting atop his head, That to his toes he was dressed so strangely as if he had tossed on anything given to him without regard to colour or weather.
[F/N] gritted her teeth, What a nutjob.
"What kind of philosophy gets you to think that?! Give them back, You bastard!" [F/N] snapped at him with the best face pre-teen her could pull. Teeth wide and bared, Arms crossed in frustration.
The boy just hung there, Not reacting to what she said though he did stop chewing momentarily. Then he shrugged, The cigarettes he was clutching in his hand let go, Making them fall down onto the pavement which [F/N] scrambled to pick up.
"Whatever. They taste disgusting so you can have them." The boy said, Watching her as she fell to her knees collecting her fallen cigarettes with apathy. [F/N] grabbed the last of them, Shoving them into her bag with a furious scowl as she looked back at him.
"What the hell is wrong with you?! I barely have any tobacco left cause you chewed it all! What are you even doing up there, You prick!" [F/N] bit as she held the leftovers of whatever little snuff she had left in her palms.
The boy rolled his eyes. And in a move [F/N] didn't expect she watched him pull back, All before the legs locked around the streetlamp branch let go making him fall towards the ground.
[F/N] yelped, Stumbling back. The boy's feet slammed against the concrete pavement, His elvish shoes clacking against the side as he stood up to his full height with no apparent damage at all.
She stumbled back, Blinking as if to see if it was a hallucination or not with an open maw.
How the hell could he have dropped from the streetlamp to the pavement without any damage? The boy stood there, He was older than her and in his teen years so whatever kind of parkour training he must've had was very impressive for his age.
But [F/N] bit back a shiver, Could a boy in his teens really pull that off?
"You humans are really weird, Your candy is nasty and you don't even know who you're talking to. Though I suppose you don't know any better." The boy shrugged as he shoved his hands into the pockets of his tattered coat.
[F/N] gawked. First he had hell of some acrobatic skills, The next he had some real annoying superiority complex. Who even gave him it in the first place? Didn't matter, Didn't stop [F/N] from balling up her fists either.
"First of all, This isn't candy. These are cigarettes you dum-"
"-If they aren't candy, Then why do they smell like candy?" The boy butted in rather rudely, Sleep deprived eyes burning into her own without any sense of remorse.
[F/N] groaned.
"Because these are flavoured, Idiot. You don't chew the tobacco, You roll it up and you smoke it for the flavour. Ever heard what a cigarette is?" [F/N] chided as she reached into her bag to present a cigarette to him sarcastically.
The boy blinked.
"No." He replied.
His response caught [F/N] off guard. It was so honestly spoken and genuine that she couldn't help but drop her shoulders and guard along with them. Did he seriously not know what a cigarette was..?
"Well.. Ehm.. It's kind of this thing that you roll up with the.. The tobacco-" [F/N] stumbled over her words, Not sure how to explain to someone older than her what a cigarette was "You know what? Let me show you."
The boy didn't have any time to react as the end of a cigarette was shoved into his mouth.
His eyes widened, Not registering how [F/N] had marched up to him and done it so bluntly to him. Him of all people! Were all humans really as rude as this one was? She was starting to get on his nerves.
"Okay, Now that you have it in your mouth you just light it up at the end. You good with smoking?" [F/N] prompted, Not knowing why she was doing this but asking anyways. The boy looked back at her, Before rolling his eyes and letting out an okay with the cigarette in his mouth.
"Good" [F/N] said, Pulling out the lighter from her sweater and holding it up to the end of the cigarette, One rolled in cherry pink paper and tasting like it looked. "Okay.. Three, Two, One.."
The lighter sparked up, A few faulty clicks before the burst of an ember lit up at the tip. It caught onto the cigarette rather quickly, The burn of the snuff starting to flicker and burst out into a flame of its own.
[F/N] moved the lighter away, Lowering it down to her side.
"Alright, Now purse your lips like you're whistling but suck it in instead. Make sure to support it!" [F/N] said, Her hand snapping up to hold the cigarette with two fingers as it near fell out of his mouth.
The boy huffed but ultimately did what she had said, Watching as his lips pursed like he was whistling then his lungs inflate. [F/N] let a small grin slip as she watched his face light up slightly, The light in her fingers lowering from his mouth.
"Good, Huh?" [F/N] asked as she watched his lungs shrink in his puffed out chest, The vaguely pink smoke erupting from his lips and drifting off into the midday air. Sizzling out in the brisk of the day.
He looked down at her, Apathy more of an aftertaste now as the light finally returned to his eyes in an interested glimmer.
"I want more, Give me more, Now." The boy demanded, Taking a determined step closer to her with a hand already stretched out. [F/N] huffed, Dropping the cigarette astringent with cherry into his open palm.
"Tasty, Right?" [F/N] commented as she walked back towards the bench, Plopping back onto the rickety wood and lazily crossing her legs. The boy raised the cigarette back up to his lips, Repeating her instructions to the t.
The boy blew out another burst of cherry scented smoke, Tongue licking his lips as it went.
"It tastes like cherries, I want more of it. Where can I get it?" The boy asked, Turning to her as she lazed around on the bench, Relaxing against the back. [F/N] shrugged, Shuffling a single hand around in her bag before fishing out another cancerette.
"I dunno, I didn't really buy these myself and I don't know where the adults get 'em. So.. You'll need to ask someone else" [F/N] replied as she pulled out the lighter and struck up another flame on her green apple cigar.
The boy only hummed, The spark on the cancerette burning out in finality. No more smoke being produced, Leaving it to only be tossed away on the concrete pavement beside him as he sauntered over to the bench's direction.
"What's your name anyways? Seems awkward not to know it." [F/N] asked, The words leaving her lips with the scented smoke following only moments after.
"I'm Amaimon, It's nice to meet you." He said with a shrug. Though his words were polite his visage still showed that same resting face, Deep eyebags and all as he crouched down beside the old bench. She huffed, What a strange name.
"Mine's [F/N], It's cool to meet you too." She replied as tossed him another cigarette from her bag, Amaimon catching it mid-air. Another flavour, Another one to light as he held it up his snuff to her lighter.
It flicked on and just like that it was back to silence once more. The rustle of the leaves in the tree's was all that could be heard, Along with the faraway laughter of the kids in the park and the occasional car that passed by.
[F/N]'s eyes couldn't help but wander over to the boy crouched down beside the bench. It was a weird position, Only held up by his tippy-toes as he smoked out the saccharine cigar. His own golden eyes targeting nowhere.
[F/N] looked away, The wind still dancing through her hair as they sat in a somewhat comfortable silence. He was odd, Odder than the other teenagers she had met. She wasn't even thirteen yet she wondered if he was as strange to her as others his age.
He seemed so. With such fashion and behaviour she'd certainly think as such.
"So, Why were you hanging from a streetlamp? How'd you even get up there anyways" [F/N] asked, Blowing out a puff of smoke as her lips finally spoke of the elephant in the room.
Amaimon looked up at her, Licking his lips as if to taste the smoke.
"It's fun, I like the wind. The air here in Assiah is much fresher than the air in Gehenna, I climbed up there with my claws." Amaimon said as if it made any sense at all. [F/N] raised a brow.
"Assiah? Gehenna? Claws..?" She queried.
"Yeah. I'm a demon." Amaimon replied as he crushed the finished cancerette within his fist, Tossing it away on the ground as he was unaware of the expression on the girl's face.
[F/N]'s cheeks were puffed up, Lips squeezed together and her nails digging into the edge of the bench. She snorted, A noise that made Amaimon's head jerk over to her, Watching as she tried to supress a laugh.
"Why are you making that face? What wa-"
"BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-" [F/N] let out a howl of laughter, One so loud that she near keeled over on the bench. Amaimon watched as her free hand clutched her chest, The biggest grin showing as tears started to water at her eyes.
Amaimon's dotted brows knitted together, The razors of his teeth starting to bare from his maw.
"You're laughing at me, Why.. Are you making fun of me?!" Amaimon snapped as his back arched up, Unseen clawed hands starting to dig into the concrete of the pavement as he watched her hysterical laughing fit.
[F/N]'s laughter died down into a giggle, Wiping away the tears from her eyes.
"No-! No.. I'm not making fun of you, It's just I understand now, You know-" [F/N] chortled as she pointed to all of him, Smiling as she watched him look at the rest of himself for whatever she could be pointing at.
"You must be one of those gothic people I use to see on the TV, The one's that call themselves demons." [F/N] said, Relaxing back into the bench as she tossed her used cigarette away.
Amaimon tilted a head.
"..What?" Amaimon asked.
"I don't wanna be offensive! You do you, Just.. They actually exist, You know?" [F/N] explained to him. Amaimon just looked back at her with a blank expression, Seemingly confused.
"..Yes, I am a demon. See? Look at my teeth, They're not like yours" Amaimon said as he raised a finger to pull back his lips, Baring his teeth to [F/N] as his face grew closer to hers.
[F/N] blinked. Apart from the obvious fact that he needed a tic-tac and a good floss, His teeth really weren't different from hers at all. The canines he was pointing to were just like hers, No deviation.
"Yeah, Right. I have those kinds of teeth too, Dude. Demons aren't even humanoid, They have claws and horns and are beast-like. You don't have those." [F/N] said, Looking at his overgrown and dirtied nails along with his swampish hair. No demonic traits to be found.
Amaimon closed his mouth, Eyes drooping back down to their original shape.
"Oh.. You can't see it, You don't have a temptaint." Amaimon said, Turning away back towards the road. Dropped shoulders and all as he went back to staring into nowhere whatsoever.
[F/N] shook her head.
"Whatever you say dude, Whatever makes you happy." [F/N] shrugged as she closed her eyes, Taking the sunlight into her skin. Feeling the air on the back of the neck, Her hoodie really didn't do it justice.
Back to uncomfortable silence it was, He had no response after hers as he went back to staring off into space. [F/N] breathed out with no cancerette in her mouth this time, Only the slight wisps of cold vapour leaving her mouth.
"Why are you still here anyways? Don't you have teens your own age to hang out with and not some random child you met in the street?" [F/N] asked to him.
Amaimon's eyes darted back up to hers, Seemingly now only noticing the age difference between each other. Especially the height.
"Other humans my vessel's age are all too weak to play with.. They're boring after only a minute." Amaimon answered, Though now turning fully over to [F/N] "But you're not currently boring, Even though I haven't played with you yet.."
[F/N] snorted slightly as she watched his expression trail off into something more interested, One of his overgrown fingernails entering his mouth to be chewed on.
"You're not too bad yourself, Amaimon. You're weird, I like that." [F/N] giggled as her hand managed to wander itself over to the top of his head, Her fingers weaving their way into the swamp green of his hair as she ruffled it mockingly.
Though he froze, Just as her fingertips touched his locks.
"Huh..?" Amaimon muttered as he finished chewing on his fingernail, Body rigid as if he didn't know what was happening. [F/N]'s grin shortened, Fingers leaving the strands of his hair.
"Oh.. Sorry, Should've asked.." [F/N] mumbled as her arm retracted to her side, Though it didn't stop the petrified stance Amaimon sat in. Still staring off into space with his eyes widening further and further every second.
THUMP!
There it was again.
THUMP!
And again, Some strange thumping inside of his chest.
His ribcage rattled in its place, Almost like it would burst out from his vessels flesh. His hand grasped at the right of it's chest, Teeth gritting at the strange sensation. One he had never felt in his entire existance.
"Amaimon..? You good..?"
He jolted up, Eyes snapping back into focus at her words.
"Do it again!" Amaimon ordered. Hand still grasping a cluster of his striped shirt, The thumping continued on. Cheeks heating up into a warm pink.
[F/N]'s lips turned into a frown. Her guard that was down before started to raise, Rebuilding itself into what it was before. This was still a stranger, She hadn't even known him an hour. What was she doing?
"Eh.. I think I should get going now.. I need to do-"
"Again! Now!" Amaimon cut in. Voice raising in a crescendo as he grew closer and closer to her on the bench, One she slid further back on to try get away. But his hands lunged out to her wrist, Entrapping her in place.
[F/N] yelped as his palms tugged her towards him.
"A-Are you insane?! I- Fine, Okay! Just let go!" [F/N] cried as she was near pulled off of the bench, Soles of her shoes digging into the pavement in an attempt to keep her stable.
Though his grip was let go. Amaimon pushed himself up on the bench, So close to her now that his burning breath was felt in the pores of her skin. She could see his too now as her hand went to massage her aching wrist.
"Do it!" Amaimon urged, An unspoken threat.
[F/N] gulped, Not hesitating to do as he said as she slipped her fingers in-between the folds of his hair. He was taller, Older than her. Athletic by how he hung from the streetlamp and the chill she got when looking into his eyes was all the convincing she needed to comply.
Amaimon shuddered, Face lowering down from hers as he felt the unsure ruffles of his hair. His head rested against the bench beside her, Feeling the frigid fir against his cheek. So cold but strangely warm and comforting.
[F/N] swallowed down what little saliva was in her dry mouth, Sweat starting to grow and infest her palms as she played with his hair.
She was terrified, Shaking as she did so. [F/N] needed to get out of here, This wasn't right. She had thought of herself so mature before, So adult and cool with the cigarettes she smoked on the daily.
But as she raked her fingers through his hair, She knew very well that she was still the little kid who cried not to follow her friend into the depths of the woods.
"How are you doing this..? Are you a demon? A witch..?" Amaimon mumbled, Near melting into the lumber of the bench. What he had figured out was his heart started to beat faster and faster, A machine churning out some.. Human feeling inside of him.
[F/N] sniffled slightly, She wished she never took those cigarettes in the first place.
"It doesn't matter.. This must be it, This must be what you humans talk about when you say you love your family. I've never understood it.. You humans are just animals. Not like us demon's but.." Amaimon trailed off, Turning his head to face hers.
"You're not like the other humans, You're different.." Amaimon muttered. Hand lunging out to grasp her wrist once more as her movements slowed down, Both in fear and terror as she yelped out. Staring into his eyes.
"You're fun." He whispered.
[F/N] felt the tears prickling in her eyes start to drip, Start to fall down her cheeks. He wasn't acting like this before, He wasn't so.. So terrifying. He was just a strange boy she smoked with!
But she needed to get away, She needed to tell someone-
But her train of thought was cut off by the biggest of grins spreading across his face, One that seemed so unnatural upon the apathetic usual of his face. It was contorted, So visceral that she could never look away.
[F/N] stared at it and the tears streaming down her face only grew.
"Let's go have fun! I wanna go play! Big brother told me to learn more about Japan and it's becoming boring, But having you around will be fun! Come on!" Amaimon urged, Starting to tug on her even harder. Pulling her off the bench as her behind hit the hard concrete pavement.
"L-LET ME GO!" [F/N] cried out.
"I'll introduce you to my Behemoth, He's my pet! Big brother also said that I couldn't bring him out with us on his business meeting, So you'll need to come with me now so I can show you to him." Amaimon tugged even harder, His strength herculean and pulling her along easily as he started to lug her upwards.
[F/N] wailed. Her free arms raising and flailing against Amaimon in a desperate attempt to escape, Feet kicking at his shins and her shrill voice calling out for anyone that could hear her.
But there was no one around, No one except her smiling assailant dragging her along with him.
Though his grin dropped slightly as he looked at her face.
"Why are you leaking from your eyes? You should be smiling right now." He asked, His noise pushing into her face to examine the foreign substance coming from her ducts. He blinked, Tilting his head to the side.
[F/N] cried out, Sniffling hard.
"I'M NOT SMILING CAUSE YOU'RE KIDNAPPING M-"
HONK!
The distinct sound of a car horn came barrelling down the street. The grip on her wrist was freed, Amaimon's hand letting it slip from his grasp.
[F/N] stumbled back, Near tripping over the bench before she fell back onto it. She whined out, Examining the redness of her wrist and the pain on her skin. No injury luckily, But was still stinging.
"Y-You bastard.. How can you.." [F/N] sniffled, Looking up at him. But he wasn't looking at her, Instead he was looking far off down the road with a surprised expression plastered on his face.
HONK!
[F/N]'s eyes expanded, Matching Amaimon's as her head snapped over to the roadside. The car horn was louder now and the tune of which it hummed was unmistakable. Her mouth went dry, There was no way.
But as the hot pink limo sped down the suburban streets, The sound of the chipper horn playing out once more, [F/N] realised she was in hot shit. That horn was famous across Japan, That car was famous.
It was Johann Faust V's car, The wealthy foreign socialite and the headmaster of True Cross Academy. He was renowned for both the school's rich reputation and the flair for his projects, Namely the biggest theme park in the country!
But how could he be here?! This was some middle-class part of town, He was known to reside in True Cross Town. The chances of him being here right now were slim to none, But not if..
"No way.. This is your brother?!" [F/N] gawked, Jumping up from the rigid bench to an even more rigid stance. Eyes glued to the limo slowing a few feet down from the pavement, Watching it like a hawk.
Amaimon only bit the fingernail in his mouth a little harder.
"I wasn't suppose to be out this long.. I was suppose to return but I got side-tracked.." Amaimon muttered to himself as the limo finally parked a bit away from where they stood, He turned to look at her.
"But Big Brother will understand when he sees you. He'll like you just like I do, I know he will. Then I can keep you. This fraternal feeling is nice, Isn't it nice for you too?" Amaimon asked, Ignoring the shaking of her body and the redness in her eyes.
[F/N] shook her head, Backing away.
"I.. I, Uhm.. I don't.." [F/N] trailed off, At a complete loss for words. "It is nice isn't it, Little sister? I'll go talk to Big brother and see if I can keep you, Stay put and I'll be back." Amaimon said, Turning and running towards the limo down the street. The window already rolled down as he skittered to a halt in front of it.
[F/N] gulped, Still shaking as she wiped away her tears.
Whatever the hell that was, [F/N] wasn't ready to stay around and find out as her hand pounced at the straps of her bag. She lugged it over her shoulder, Eyes never leaving Amaimon's turned back as she started to sprint away.
If he was associated with Johann Faust then she didn't want to be apart of it. She didn't want to deal with whatever lawsuit that could be put against her, Especially if Amaimon told him that they were smoking, She was lucky she shoved all the other cigarettes away in her bag.
But she ran past the youth centre doors, Passing without batting a single eye.
She didn't want them to find out she was living there, That would be easy for them to torch her out. So as she ran, Rubber burning off her soles she knew she had to hide out for a little while.
Somewhere in the plaza or the shopping streets, Somewhere with a lot of people. Just for a few hours while this all cools down, So the staff don't find out she stole any cigs or was communicating with Johann Faust's bizarre younger brother.
So she ran and she ran, Sprinting further down the streets. The youth centre got smaller and smaller behind her, The arguing speck of Amaimon and the limo became only more miniscule as she ran.
All of this just for a few hours, Just so this crazy dream would all be over.

Hello! ❤️
I have 5 questions for you:
Q1: Can you accept prompts and songfics for request?
Q2: Can you accept suggestive moments like neck kisses, makeouts and hickey? I am sorry for asking an awkward question. 😅
Q3: Can you accept fluffy moments for request too?
Q4: What are your thoughts on Scott Pilgrim (Scott Pilgrim Takes Off)?
Tumblr media
Q5: What are your thoughts on Lucifer Morningstar (HH)?
Tumblr media
Please answer my questions I appreciate. 😊
Q1. Yes and Yes! I'll accept just about anything as a request lol! Including the songfics and prompts :D
Q2 YESSIR- Ill accept as much suggestive as you want as long as its not a full on sex scene- anything related to it however is completely on the table tho
Q3 EHHHHH- Its not rlly preferred since yandere is inherently a dark and gorey subject matter (that and me own personal taste) but im down to try and make it work if you request!!
Q4 ITS AN INSANELY GOOD SHOW- ANIMATION? AMAZING. CHARACTERS? AMAZING. However its not really one of my favourites if u get what i mean? Like i get a buncha reqs for it and its meh but yk-
Q5. LOVE HIM. Honestly I love the idea of building up some dark and mysterious figure in the fanbase before revealing him to be some goober with a lotta ducks- Hes fun and my favourite songs from hazbin often come from him!
tho i must say that he is a bit of an undeveloped and shallow character, that and the fact that hes not really treated that importantly in the show..? at least thats what i think. BUT I LOVE HIM ANYWAYS AND HOPE TO SEE HIM GET DEVELOPED IN S2
Thank u for the questions :D

Another AO3 thing I’m curious about, how do yall decide if something is good enough to read? Usually I follow a rule of 1 kudos for every 10 hits. One because it’s easy math and two it’s yet to fail me. Thoughts? Do you just go for it and pray it’s good?

[F/N] wasn't sure how it happened.
She wasn't really quite sure how the ropes around her wrist got tied so tight that they felt deathly numb, Nor was she sure how how a fresh apple was lodged so far into her mouth that she couldn't speak.
[F/N] resembled one of those roast pigs from the cartoons she use to watch when she was younger, The ones that played on the television she use to sit by with a tub of cookie dough ice-cream beside her as a reward for completing her homework.
It was a good feeling, The way the cold cream tasted on her tongue and left her with the longing chill of brain freeze tasted extraordinary. She'd shovel another spoonful into her mouth and keep her eyes on whatever warner brothers toon was playing today, It really was good.
But now she sat strapped to the armed mahogany chair and propped up towards the dining-table sat dead centre in the room, The lacey white tablecloth draping down the sides and tickling at her bare legs.
The room she was in was so dark, Only illuminated by the small sparks of fire coming from the candelabras and the large fireplace housing a raging inferno on the other side of the room.
It barely illuminated the antique furniture and the renaissance architecture, The old paintings worth fortunes and the silver cutlery placed carefully at the dinner table. In any other scenario this would be a room you'd stop to admire, But the smell made her skin itch in the mere presence of it.
The entire place had a stench of sulphur so putrid it made her want to throw up. It watered at [F/N]'s eyes, Stinging and making them a painful red. Though out of everything it was the eyes of the others, The ones that made the chill run down her spine the most.
Cat-slits spot lit from within the shadows, Sickly greens and diseased yellows. The vile glow of their horrid eyes were all locked and focused on the weak form of [F/N] sat defeated on the chair.
She'd never felt more seen, Every atom and molecule had suddenly become present. Aware of her entire form, Her matted hair and her greasy skin. The way her school uniform was stained with sweat and her own tears.
Never had she been so disgusted and terrified in her entire life. These demons, These monsters of old legend in myth. The ones mothers told to their kids as a bedtime fairy-tale and the kind only ever dreamt up on paper, [F/N] knew very well that they weren't just ink and fibre.
She knew too well and she was absolutely repulsed. Even now the iron residue on her tongue was quickly overpowered by the taste of her hatred, The way it made her bruised fists want to ball up and her teeth grind together near making sparks.
Demons, [F/N] hated them. She loathed them will every inch of her being.
[F/N] barely even recognised the dark hum of the voice starting to rev up on the other side of the table, Not registering it through her feeble exhaustion and the wreck of her body.
[F/N] wondered, A weak though as another scorching tear festered in the corner of her eye. How did she get from watching kids cartoons to being captive within her own personal hell? Those questions ran through her mind, Thousands of miles an hour.
Though, She stopped.
No.. Actually, She knew very well how she got here.
She just wished she knew what she was getting into.
☆♡☆
"Hey! Wait up!"
The girls voice called out from atop the overgrown hill, She near stumbled over the hidden rocks and thick grass blossoming from the fresh soil in attempt to catch up to the boy a few metres down.
The smell of the newly blossomed flowers invaded their senses, Both the rain from last night and the pollen of the coming spring still humid in the air.
The wind was fresher here, It was pure. It was a good bit away from all the buzz of the town, All the honking of the cars and the raving chatter of people was nothing but white noise in the distance now.
The field was unkempt and wild, Dewdrops dripping from the blades of grass and the damp soil went fresh onto the kids skin. Smearing them with dirt and wetting their clothes with the morning dew.
[F/N]'s small figure was like a newly born foal, Her legs shook with every stride and it was obvious she had gotten into some accidents by the bandages and bruises covering her legs. The oversized t-shirt she wore depicted some colourful dog and it was one she didn't recognise, Though it was most certainly from a kids show she watched on the youth centre's television.
A bag was slung around her shoulders, It was filled with packets of junk food and fizzy drinks stolen from the youth centre. It thumped against her body as she ran.
"You jerk! You know I can't run as fast as you yet, Tetsuya!" [F/N] exclaimed, Stuttering to a halt and near comically folding her hands in front of her chest. She puffed up her cheeks as she looked at him, A cute display of what was suppose to be annoyance.
Tetsuya giggled, Lightly patting her back.
"I'm sorry! But maybe you shouldn't be such a slowpoke next time." He teased lightly, A sly smile crawling up the sides of his face. [F/N] looked him up and down, Her brows furrowing as she raised her hand and connected it with his shoulders.
Tetsuya exclaimed and stumbled a few feet away from her, A hand lunging to the sore spot on his shoulder as he laughed harder.
"Maybe you shouldn't be such an easy target to hit, Then!" [F/N] giggled as she rested her hands triumphantly on her hips. Looking at Tetsuya and his keeled over form.
He was tall and lanky for his age, The same young number as [F/N] but he looked just a little bit older than he was. His face was peppered with freckles yet you could barely see them from under the hood of his vibrant yellow raincoat.
It was a piece of clothing that you could never see him without, It was way oversized even on someone like him and was stained with years of use. That and the equally as bright wellington boots her wore on his feet, Already covered in the wet dirt of the morn.
Both Tetsuya and [F/N] had met when they both babbled and stumbled when they walked, And ever since they had been inseparable companions.
They grew up in a youth centre, [F/N] being there due to her biological parents signing her up for adoption when she was born and Tetsuya ending up on the doorstep of the centre since day one.
You'd think a lack of a family would put them down, But that wasn't the case. The two of them were the only family they needed, The only hand they needed to hold was each others. If they were together, They would be okay.
That was their philosophy.
[F/N] smiled lightly as she watched him laugh off their banter, A ritual they had for years now. Tetsuya would tease her and she would shove him, He would shove her back and she would throw an insult in turn.
It was their routine, Their cycle and their custom. The way they bonded was through playful taunts and bruises as trophies of their friendship, Ever since they met in the youth centre wherever one would wander another would surely follow after.
Even when they snuck out of the youth centre, [F/N] was quick to follow. Slipping past the staff and other kids they ran out into the woods in search of their own goal.
Tetsuya grinned as he looked back at [F/N], The deep maroon puddled in his eyes reflected off the suns grace.
"Shut it! You're not that hard to hit yourself." He retorted as he shoved [F/N] in return. She snorted and laughed it off, Still energized by the fresh morning air and the electrifying feeling of the dirt and dew on her skin.
"Whatever! Anyways, We've got more important stuff to deal with!" [F/N] proclaimed as her tiny self took a big step forward, Almost as if mapping out a new frontier she raised her hands forward and slowly spreading them. Taking the vast clearing into her memory.
"Here is where me and you are going to make the discovery of a lifetime!" She said, Glancing back towards him with the most excited grin her young face could muster.
Tetsuya took a step forward, Copying her own ecstatic expression now as he stood beside her and gazed onto the vast horizon of grassy fields and overgrown foliage. He turned to her, Looking at her with the sun reflecting in his eyes.
"Here, [F/N], Is where we are going to capture a demon!" Tetsuya announced, Giggling as his hand found it's way into [F/N]'s palm. Her, In response laughed with him as she set a foot forward and started to run with him in tow.
He kept up, His red rain boots stomping and squelching in the muddy dirt as they ran. Both laughing in excitement and joy as they went, Running off into a burst of oak tree's and spruce as their little bodies disappeared into the foliage.
Demons, Though both of them had only learned the presence of such creatures from an old book the youth-centre's priest use to keep, Grew fascinated by the prospect of a whole 'nother race. Both of them wanted to know more.
To capture one, To study it, To know more.
And that's what they were going to do as they ran off.
☆♡☆
"Come on, [F/N]! Quicker!"
Tetsuya called out to [F/N], Their held hands long let go of as they ran further into the wild woods. Ferns and bushes becoming more abundant, Tree's and grass growing more and more common as they sped through the forest.
[F/N] huffed, Beads of sweat starting to fall down her brow as she tried to keep up with Tetsuya. Her lungs were on fire and her tiny legs were going as fast as they could but they already felt like they were going to collapse under her.
"C-Can't we take a break for a second?" [F/N] yelled out from over her exhaustion. Tetsuya took a tiny glance back at her, Blinking once before his run started to slow down until he finally stopped all together.
[F/N] gasped for air as she stumbled to a stop, She almost toppled over as her hands fell to her knees. She stood there for a few minutes, Panting.
"N-Not cool, Dummy! You know I can't run as fast as you.." [F/N] breathed out as she peered up towards Tetsuya, Who stood there near equally as out of breath as she was. Despite that however, A smile was spread wide across his sweat dampened face.
"It's fine, We're here now anyways so we can stop now!" Tetsuya said as he started to look around in the clearing they had landed in. [F/N] followed to take a peek, Though her exhausted legs stayed firmly in place.
It was a much less wild part of the forest, Though that wasn't saying much as the clusters of oak and spruce were still very much present. The grass was shorter here, Revealing the families of insects crawling around.
Centipedes, Spiders, Beetles and Butterflies were all around them. Some wiggling around on the ground and others fluttering in the air, Leaving a faint glimpse of ultraviolet and chartreuse in it's pathway.
It was scenic, A place you could take a loved one on a date or where an entomologist would thrive along with the creatures they studied.
It was also perfect for two little kids to go demon hunting.
"Wow.. Just look at all of this.." Tetsuya said as he looked at a caterpillar crawling across the bark of a tree. Tetsuya looked at it like it was the eighth wonder, Eyes sparkling in interest as he watched it move.
[F/N] took off the bag around her shoulder, The heavy weight of it holding her down.
[F/N] stumbled over to him like a new-born foal in order to get a good look at what he was spying on. She blinked once she peered over his shoulder, Though smiled once more once her eyes landed on the caterpillar.
"Wooow.. He's so cute!" [F/N] squealed as she moved closer to the caterpillar, Unconsciously pushing Tetsuya out of the way to get a better look at the insect.
[F/N] raised her hand, Slowly placing it towards the bark where the caterpillar walked. It was a lime green colour, With two little antenna sticking out of his tiny head. It's first half raised as he saw her hand.
[F/N] waited patiently with a smile as she looked at it, The caterpillar seemed to look back and forth. It took a moment, All before slowly crawling towards her and climbing into the dip of her palm.
"Aah! Tetsuya, Look! It climbed onto my hand!" [F/N] cheered as she presented the little bug to Tetsuya with care, Holding out her hand to him with the biggest of smiles plastered all over her face.
Tetsuya smiled back, But scratched the back of his head.
"That's really cool! Though.. It looks like I stepped on one by accident.." Tetsuya said nervously as he lifted his foot to reveal a squashed caterpillar, One that looked very similar to the one [F/N] held in her hands.
The still-alive caterpillar seemed to squeak within her hands, [F/N]'s eyes widening and her free hand lightly shoving Tetsuya.
"Tetsu'! You need to be more careful, That was a living animal!" [F/N] scolded him as she lifted the caterpillar in her hands onto her shoulder. It sat atop her, If it had a visible face it would be staring knives into Tetsuya.
"It's fine, [F/N]! It's just a bug, It's not like it's a demon or anything.." Tetsuya said as he turned to walk back to explore the rest of the clearing.
[F/N]'s cheeks were puffed up in annoyance, She watched Tetsuya wander off with a pout on her face. The caterpillar on her shoulder whined once, Making [F/N] turn towards it with a newfound smile.
"Hey.. It's okay Mr. Caterpillar! Oh.. Wait.. Do you have a real name?" [F/N] asked as she tilted her head, Looking towards him if he was going to answer her.
The caterpillar couldn't speak, It had no mouth nor no vocal chords. It only raised it's head in attention.
But miraculously, It shook it's head.
[F/N] let out a small 'Oh', Completely tossing away the fact that it responded to her in the first place. She turned her head back towards the ground, Focusing her eyes onto her feet in thought.
"Well, Then.. How about I give you a name?" [F/N] asked as she looked back to it with a shine in her eyes, One that burned as bright as the sun itself. It was her childhood innocence, That naive wonder that could pierce through anything.
The caterpillar took a moment to admire it before nodding it's head.
"Okay then!" [F/N] squealed. She gently but quickly picked the caterpillar into her hands, Scooping it into her palms. She moved her face closer to the caterpillar, Her nose lightly kissing it's antenna.
"How about.. Chiyo?" [F/N] asked, Blinking once and waiting for it's reaction.
The caterpillar took a moment, Before shaking it's head no.
"Hm.. Okay then.." [F/N] drawled, Bringing a hand up to her chin and rubbing it in thought.
"How about Miyu?"
The caterpillar shook it's head again.
"Momo? Nope.."
"Nori? No.."
"Koro?" [F/N] finalised, Looking down at the caterpillar. It's antenna swayed back and forth, Staying still and seeming to mull over the name. It turned back to [F/N], Before it nodded in confirmation.
[F/N]'s face lit up, Smiling wider as she looked down at Koro.
"Okay then, Koro! It's great to meet you, My name is [F/N]!" She said as she brought her hand up to Koro, Her pinky finger was stuck out as if she was going to shake his non-existent arm.
Koro took it in kind, His top half resting on top of her pinky as [F/N] shook it. Once they were finished however, [F/N] gently picked him up and placed him back onto her shoulder.
"Hey, [F/N]! Over here!" Tetsuya called out to her. [F/N] blinked, Snapping her head around to meet the excited face of her friend standing a few metres away from her by a bunch of bushes.
[F/N] nodded, Making sure Koro was comfortable before prancing over to Tetsuya with a skip in her step.
"Yeah? What's up, Tetsu'?" [F/N] greeted with a nod as she went to stand beside him. As she got closer though, She could notice the focused expression present on his face. It was alight with interest, A scientist making the discovery of a lifetime.
Tetsuya glanced back at her, But ultimately kept his eyes infront of him. A deeper part of the woods, Where the tree's grew thicker and the lights grew dim in the foliage.
"Do you hear that, [F/N]?" Tetsuya said, His voice growing into a whisper as he stepped closer to her. [F/N]'s eyes narrowed lightly, Her ears perking up once the silence fell in.
It was quiet. There wasn't anything around to be heard except for the faint rustle of the leaves in the morning breeze. Though [F/N] thought it was strange that the chirp of crickets and birds were now completely absent, There wasn't anything to be heard.
[F/N]'s ears perked up suddenly, Her eyes widened at the sudden noise.
It was a rustle, Not the faint brush of leaves against each other from the trees or the grass. It was loud, Deliberate, It sounded like something big had hit against a bush or even worse: hidden inside it.
A sudden cold chill ran down her spine like a bucket of freezing water was dumped onto her. It made her little body go rigid, A sudden sense of unease growing more and more evident as she listened onto the silence.
Tetsuya however, His grin only grew louder and louder with every passing moment. Every tick of the imaginary clock that passed by the more his joy became potent. Koro too, Also seemed to sense this, Raising his head towards the dark woods in front of him.
"[F/N].. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" He asked to her, Taking a step forward and brushing against the bush in front of him.
[F/N] turned to him, Horrified eyes as she stared onto his unwavering form. Her lip started to shake as she took a step back.
"Tetsuya.. I think we need to go back to the centre.. I-I don't feel safe here.." [F/N] whispered to him but even then that seemed like sirens in the concentrated silence of the clearing. Tetsuya looked back at her, Raising a brow.
"[F/N].. This is what we came out here for, I can sense it.. It's a demon, I can tell..!" Tetsuya whispered enthusiastically, His hand going to rest on her free shoulder as he looked into her eyes with that ever confident gaze.
[F/N] gulped, Swallowing down saliva.
"I-I know, Tetsu'.. But this doesn't feel right, S-Something's wrong.. Very, Very wrong.." [F/N] said, Tears starting to prickle at her eyes as her hands went to grip the hem of her over-sized shirt, Clutching at it like it was her life-line.
Something in the darkness, Something in there just felt so off. It made her want to run away, Made her want to get out of this forest and go back to the youth centre where she could watch her cartoons. But she didn't want to go without Tetsuya, She didn't want to leave him behind.
Tetsuya groaned as he looked at her.
"Oh come on, [F/N]. Are you really not gonna come with me?" He said exasperated, Looking into her eyes with a reassuring yet impatient confidence. [F/N]'s lips parted, Taking a hesitant glance into the dark before turning back to him.
"I.. Um.." She stuttered. Koro, Who was sitting on her shoulder, Started to squeak. Tetsuya shot a look at it before pulling the hand off of her shoulder.
"Fine. If you're not gonna go, Then I'll do it on my own. Wait for me here!" Tetsuya finalised as he huffed, Quickly turning towards the dark forest before taking stride through the bushes in front of him. [F/N] gasped, Her hands leaping towards him.
"T-Tetsu'! Wait!" She called out but it was too late, Her hands were just out of reach from him. Tetsuya had already gotten through the shrubbery and had ran off into the darkness with a widened grin.
She heard his footsteps grow fainter and fainter as his body was consumed by the shadows of the forest. [F/N] stood there shaking, Staring off into the void of the foliage.
Koro squeaked on her shoulder, His small body crawling into the crook of her neck as what only could be interpreted as comfort.
[F/N] turned to look down at him, Her thumping heart only slowing down as she felt his movements on her neck. She tried to smile down at him, A shaky sort of expression as she stepped back from the bushes.
"I-It's fine, Koro. I'm sure Tetsuya will be back soon.." [F/N] said as she backed up a few feet, Feeling her back hit the tree she slid down into a sitting position. Pushing her knees to her chest she decided to wait within the silence of the forest.
[F/N]'s words were optimistic doubt, Knowing Tetsuya he would take his time if he really did find something. He's always been that way, Something [F/N] half-chuckled at as she sat against the bark.
She tried to shake off the awful feeling pooling in her gut, The pulsing kind of wrongness that you could feel in your bones. Maybe it was just her sensitive nerves, But that didn't stop the way she dug her nails into the skin of her knee's.
Koro squeaked once more, Sensing her discomfort.
[F/N] smiled once more, Bringing a hand up to gently stroke along his back.
"He'll be back soon.." [F/N] mumbled to him as she ran her finger along his back.
"Excuse me? Who are you suppose to be?"
A childish and impudent voice called out from somewhere beside her. [F/N]'s eyes widened in surprise as she jerked her head over to meet the voice.
It was a boy, No younger than she could've been. His posture was high and his nose was raised towards her as if she was nothing but a rodent beneath him. But that's not what stuck out to her the most, It was his attire that really caught her eye.
It was eccentric, Something reminiscent of what an English Tudor would wear with big poofy pantaloons with hues of navy and royal reds streaking them. Not to mention he wore pointed boots and a waistcoat with a comically high collar resembling the wings of a fly.
That and the staff he carried with a wooden snails shell carved into the tip. His stripy stockings and his large bug-ish cape. He stared at her impatiently with an annoyed glare, Nipping yellow eyes looking at her from under his lime-green bob.
[F/N] blinked once, Noticing all the insects that seemed to gather around him.
"Oh, Uh.. My name is [F/N]!" She said, Getting up from the tree and steadying herself on her feet. She stared at all the arachnids and invertebrates swarming him, A spider on his shoulder or centipede swirling around his leg.
He sneered, But it looked ridiculous with his chubby cheeks and big eyes trying to stare at her.
"Ugh, Another mortal entering my territory? You're disturbing the insects here, Leave, Now." It wasn't a request but an order, Whoever this boy was he sure was demanding. It didn't sit right with [F/N], Despite not knowing what the word mortal or territory meant, She knew it was derogatory.
"Erm.. I'm sorry but I was here first! Even if it was your.. 'Terrytorie'? Then we can both share, There's enough for both of us!" [F/N] argued as she took a few steps towards him. Though as she did she could now make out more strange features about him.
His eyes, Through an unusual canary yellow was colouring them she could now make out the strange shape of his pupils, Which resembled a cat's sliced eye.
And through his hair she could notice two odd shapes, Two bits of hair that seemed to stick up like a caterpillars antenna. [F/N] had no idea what kind of dire situation she was currently in, She couldn't sense the danger from her young mind.
The bugs that crowded around him started to move, Writhing around as the caterpillar on his leg started to chitter angrily. Beetles to Butterflies started to get restless, Roaches and arachnids started to hiss.
The boy gritted his unusually pointed teeth, The bugs swarming on him seemed to grow in number as he raised the staff in his hand. But before he could slam it down onto the damp ground below, A desperate squeak erupted from [F/N]'s shoulder.
The boy stopped mid staff-slam onto the ground, He blinked once, His expression falling before his eyes snapped around to [F/N]'s shoulder. Her in turn, Looked around to see Koro standing on his hind legs, Continuously squeaking.
"Koro, What's wrong?" [F/N] whispered as she plucked him from her shoulder and lain him in her cupped palms. Koro in turn, Curled up into a little ball inside her hands. The boy in front of her stared blankly at the tiny creature.
"Eh? Why do you have a caterpillar in yours hands, You're going to hurt him you idiot!" The boy yelled, His tiny hands balling up into fists as he looked at her enraged. His unnaturally sharp teeth gritted together.
[F/N] stared at him for a second, Before her eyes widened in realisation.
"Oh! Is he yours? I'm really sorry for picking him up! I kinda just put out my hand and he got on, I didn't know he was a pet!" [F/N] grinned as she stretched out her arm to present Koro to him.
The boy's angry demeanour that he had just.. Froze. His eyes darted down to Koro held out to him, Staring at him as if he was expecting a different outcome entirely. Though his attitude quickly picked up once more as he swiftly went to pick up Koro.
"Hmph! Don't act as if you're sorry, You're lucky that I don't evaporate you right here and now!" The boy announced, Quickly placing Koro onto his shoulder and moving his hands to his hips as he stared at [F/N].
"Eeh.. 'Eva-pour-it'? What does that mean?" [F/N] said, Stuttering out the unfamiliar word as she placed a hand on her chin.
The boy's brows furrowed, Rolling his eyes.
"Stupid humans.. Don't even know their own language.." He muttered under his breath, Folding his arms rather dramatically as he threw his head to the side in disgust.
"Huh?" [F/N] prompted, Tilting her head.
"Whatever! Leave now and be grateful that I decided to spare you today, Mortal" The boy said as he tossed his cape in the mid-morning breeze as he turned his back to her. The posse of bugs and arachnids that crowded around him started to move away as he marched off.
[F/N] blinked, A sudden nervousness rising in her chest as she subconsciously took a step forward.
"W-Wait! Can I at least say goodbye to Koro?" She called out to him, Watching as the boy stopped in his tracks once the words left her mouth. He turned his head to the side, Giving her a side-eyed glance.
"Who?" He asked impatiently.
"The caterpillar, I named him Koro!" [F/N] announced as she pointed to Koro, Who was on his hind legs and looking back at her.
The boy's body seemed to go rigid as if he came eye to eye with medusa herself, The bugs around him followed his actions as they all froze along with him. His eyes looked over her, Before lowering his staff and turning to meet her face once more.
"You.. You named him?" He asked, A slight stutter in his voice which was new for his previously arrogant tone.
[F/N] hummed, Then nodded.
"Well, Yeah! I named him Koro because it's a cute name for a cute bug! If he has another name then I can use that?" She asked as she took a few steps closer to him.
The bugs surrounding the boy started to move towards her as she approached, The chittering and chirping of them starting to pick up to an angry hum. But they were stopped by the boy, Who held his hand in the air to stop them.
"Hm! Your kind usually doesn't take such an interest in my kin. Don't you find him disgusting? Creepy, Perhaps?" He asked as he moved the hand to present all the creatures around him.
"Nuh-uh, I think they're really pretty. I mean.. I know everyone else doesn't like them, But I like them a lot. They don't deserve the hate." [F/N] said as she put out her hands onto the ground in front of the beetle, It's pincers snapping once or twice before crawling onto her hand.
[F/N] smiled, A blush appearing on her face as she kneeled down onto the damp grass to get a better look at the invertebrates around her. She ignored the way it got her shirt wet in favour of admiring the insects.
A shining blue Beatle, A beautiful iridescent butterfly and even a little white cockroach with a pink-polka dot scarf and top hat. They were beautiful, Absolutely gorgeous creatures hailing from the earth. [F/N] looked at them, All adoringly.
The boy was speechless, His lemon-shaded eyes looked down at her in shock as he watched the beetle run around on [F/N]'s hand. His lips were parted, His stature softening before the arrogant expression reappeared on his face.
"..Well, I guess you could stay a bit longer. But don't get on my nerves, Understand? Otherwise I won't hesitate to get rid of you." He said, A warning that [F/N] completely disregarded.
Her smile grew wider, Near as bright as the sun shining down on the both of them.
"Ah, Really!? Thank you.. Um.. I'm sorry, But what's your name?" [F/N] asked, A puzzled look on her face as she realised she had no idea who he was. The boy in turn straightened his posture and smiled.
"My name is Beelzebub, I am the king of insects so you better respect me!" Beelzebub announced, All the bugs and the arachnids around him chirped and chittered in a chorus of praise as if to proclaim of his presence.
[F/N] wasn't that far behind as she stood up from her position, Setting the beetle down and gasping in wonder.
"Woah! You're a king? Like.. A king of bugs? That's so cool! Your clothes make sense now!" She said as she pointed towards his Tudor attire. It did too, From his high pointed collar to his well-tailored boots, It finally made sense in her little mind as to why he dressed as such.
Beelzebub grinned wider, Taking in her praise.
"Of course! This kind of clothing is only befitting of a king like me, Besides! It makes me look cute." Beelzebub pouted and folded his arms, Flaunting his adorable stature. From his chubby cheeks to his tiny little hands he certainly was.
Even though she didn't understand any of his fancy royal words like 'Mortal' or 'Evaporate', She did understand that she was having a good time and she now had another friend her age to play with.
[F/N] however rubbed her chin in thought.
"Hmm.. Your name is kinda hard to say though.. What if I give you a shorter name?" [F/N] asked. Beelzebub, She didn't even attempt to pronounce that, She knew very well that she would make a mockery of it.
"A shorter name? A nickname? Like what?" Beelzebub asked, Suspicion lacing every word he spoke as he looked at her. [F/N] scratched her chin in thought.
"Huh.. How about.. Beel? That's a pretty easy name to say!" [F/N] said, Face lighting up as she snapped her fingers.
Beelzebub blinked. Koro, Who was still sitting upon his shoulder, Had his antenna swishing happily to and fro as Beelzebub thought over her words.
"Hmm.." Beelzebub hummed as he tasted the way 'Beel' sounded on his tongue, All before his folded arms tighened "Alright then! You may call me that" He finalized as a small smile appeared on his face.
"Cool! I got food in my bag if you wanna share it with me?" [F/N] asked as she pointed to the abandoned bag of food laying within the grass, By now a few ants and beetles have been circling it as they smelt the savoury scent of the food kept inside.
Beelzebub 'hmph'd' before marching over to the lonely bag dropped on the ground, The bugs obediently followed after him once he peered over inside the bag. He blinked, Observing the contents before smiling.
"This will do."
☆♡☆
The blue sky above them was crystal clear, Only the faintest of ivory clouds daring to dust their hues.
By now it had turned into the early afternoon. The sun was burning bright and had dried the damp foliage from the previous nights rain, The embracing heat being evidence of that. The baby blue surrounding it had turned into a vivid sapphire now, A beautiful spring day.
The breeze had picked up, The bushes of leaves in the surrounding lumber hit and grazed against each other in the gale. The wind tickling the skin of [F/N] as she sat nestled within the grassy clearing of the forest.
It blew threw her hair, Making it dance and wave within the breeze. She laughed as she took another bite into her half-eaten rice cake, The cocoa covering on top flooded sweet taste into her mouth.
By now the stash in her back was well ravaged. Empty boxes of strawberry pocky lay strewn in front of her, Kit-kat foils were stuffed into them with little Mochi wrappers scattered around the girl.
They had been talking for what seemed to be hours now, Beelzebub turning out to be good company after all. It had took a bit of work but he had began to open up to her, Smiling more often and actually participating in conversation of his own.
He had gone through her stash of food, [F/N] had learned that he had a penchant for anything barbeque flavoured so she had made sure to give what she had of that to him. Beelzebub being surprisingly appreciative as they rambled on.
[F/N] giggled, The corners of her mouth were dirtied with her eaten chocolate.
"Well.. I like singing but I'm not really that good at it yet, But I like drawing too and I'm really good at it! All the grown-ups at the youth centre say so." [F/N] explained through her chews of the rice cake, Looking over towards Beelzebub.
He was sat down beside her, His cape drooping around him like a blanket while his hands tightly gripped a bag of barbeque flavoured crisps. His cheeks were puffed up, Stuffed to the brim with the savoury snack.
He chewed, Swallowing a bit down so he could speak.
"Youth centre? Don't you smaller mortals have bigger ones to take care of you?" Beelzebub asked through his eating. By now, The both of them had bugs swarming them. A few surrounding them, Some crawling on their lap and others nestled upon their shoulder.
[F/N] stopped eating for a minute, Her face falling slightly as a butterfly landed on her knee.
"Well.. Yeah, But I don't." [F/N] answered. Beelzebub recognised her now less peppy demeanour, His smile slowly turned into a tight-lipped frown.
"Why?" He asked, Genuinely curious as he focused his attention onto [F/N]. She, In turn, Decided to continue eating her food as she shrugged her shoulders.
"Umm.. My family who had me before just didn't want me, So they gave me to the youth centre to get adopted by a new family." [F/N] spoke as she chewed, Finishing the last of the rice-cake as she shoved it in her mouth.
"And.. You haven't got adopted by a new family" Beelzebub asked, Seemingly confused.
"Nope." [F/N] replied.
Beelzebub turned back to his own packet of crisps, Seeming staring into the contents inside. His face was blank as he looked at the crisps inside of the near-empty packet, He concentrated on them before..
THUMP!
A sudden noise came from inside his chest, Making his hand shoot to clutch the point
His chest was rattling, Something contained within his ribcage seemed to be beating for some kind of reason. It made his vessel sweat and the muscles around his mouth start to turn up on it's own.
His eyes widened, A light gracing them for the first time in thousands of years.
Could this be..?!
"Beel.. Are you okay?" [F/N] asked slowly as she saw his strange behaviour.
Koro, Who was lain out on the grass before, Started to crawl up his leg and up onto his shoulder.
It snapped Beelzebub out of whatever train of thought he was in before he turned back to her. Something inside him was resonating, Something weird and unfamiliar as he looked at the young girl beside him.
He grinned, Placing a hand to the ground below to push himself up from his position. [F/N] sat confused upon the grass, Looking up at him with a tilted head as he began to speak.
"That's it! I've decided." He proclaimed, A hand raising to press against his voice as he announced to the world his sentence. [F/N] smiled a bit, Taking his new stature as play.
He suddenly turned, The hand on his chest suddenly swooping down to point at [F/N] as she jolted in surprise.
"I, Beelzebub, King of Insects, Will be your new family! I'll adopt you!" He decreed as he pointed at her with a large smile. The feeling in his chest, The one that beat like a merciless drum within his ribcage. It was only going so much faster as he spoke.
[F/N] looked at him blankly, Before she snorted. Beelzebub's face fell as she started to giggle.
"Haha-! But, Beel! You're my age, You can't be my dad. That and we need more people for a family, It can't be just us! It's really nice of you though!" [F/N] smiled sweetly as she looked up at him from where she sat.
Beelzebub huffed, Folding his arms as he looked down at her.
"Well I don't mean like a father, I mean like.. Like a sibling, Yeah! I'll be your brother! And besides, We don't need anymore people. I just want it to be us." Beezlebub explained.
[F/N]'s expression though still smiling, Started to dim.
"..But I can't! I'd miss all my friends back at the youth centre like Kazuo or Aoi or.." She trailed off. The hand counting her fingers paused in it's tracks.
Beezlebub blinked, Stepping forward towards her.
"Hm? [F/N], What's wrong?" He asked
"Tetsuya!" [F/N] exclaimed. The face of the boy who had grown up with her since diapers appeared on her mind. She had had so much fun with her new friend that she had completely forgotten about him.
How long was he in there? It must've been hours at least! How ignorant she was for being so careless, She should've went with him to make sure he was okay. She chided herself in her mind, Regret washing over her.
Beelzebub however started to look annoyed.
"Who?" He asked. Irritated at the announcement of another person in her mind.
[F/N] jumped up off the moist grass, The bugs surrounding her scampering away from the sudden movement.
"Tetsuya-! My best friend! I gotta go find him now, Actually. I shouldn't of let him go in there!" [F/N] exclaimed, Face turning into a worried frown as she went to run off in the direction of Tetsuya's general location.
But a sudden, Surprisingly strong hand wrapped around her wrist, Keeping her in place.
"But.. But.. I actually had a good time today! I actually like being around you, You can't go!" Beezlebub exclaimed as [F/N] looked back to meet his eyes, Surprise flooding through her bloodstream as she looked at him.
It was the first time she had seen him look.. Desperate, On edge. His scrunched temples and wide eyes. His grasp strong around her wrist for someone of his size, It was firm and determined.
[F/N] blinked looking back at him, Not sure what to do as she stood there frozen. Snapping out of it however she shook her head, Trying to smile the best she could towards her friend.
"I'm sorry.. Beel, But I need to go find my friend. Maybe we can meet later..?" [F/N] trailed off, Trying to placate the situation as best as she could.
But the hand around her wrist only hardened, Beelzebub's face becoming less irritated and something more. Something much more angry.
"No, No, No! I want you to stay here, I'm your new family, Remember? So stay here and we can continue having fun!" Beelzebub yelled, His teeth now bared to her in a fired up hiss. He got up now, Hand still on her wrist as he got face to face with her.
His behaviour was that of toddler throwing a tantrum, Near completely. Him stomping his boot-clad feet and his spare hand doing the same. Not to mention his voice was just like one of the kids back at the centre whining to stay up just a little longer.
[F/N]'s smile fell from her face completely. The sudden safety she had felt was gone now as his behaviour ramped up.
She bit her lip as he stared her dead in the eyes with that golden glow.
"..Beel, You know that's just words right? I need to go now, I'm.. I'm sorry, Okay?" [F/N] said in the sweetest voice she could. But it was no use as the grip on her wrist tightened and tightened, Getting to a point that it was painful.
"No! I won't let you!" Beelzebub yelled.
The hand on her wrist yanked her forward, An inhuman power in his movement that made her stumble forward near falling down. She cried out in pain, An aching throb in her wrist.
"Ah- B-Beel! Let go of me, Let go!!" [F/N] wailed as Beelzebub pulled her forward towards him. The bugs around them swarming in numbers, Swirling around their feet as she started to kick and punch at his body.
Though the blows connected with his body, He didn't even move an inch.
"Come on now! You're my sister now so you should listen to me, I don't want you running off with any other mortal when I'm around to play with you now" Beelzebub huffed as he started to drag a screaming [F/N] out into the deeper parts of the woods.
He did it so easily, He did it with no effort whatsoever as he lugged her along with him and the bugs that followed. [F/N] looked around, Vision getting hot and blurry as she kept screaming. Trying to find a way out.
Her arms flailed around, Swinging aimlessly towards him before her fists slammed down onto the top of his head.
It hit the weird parts of hair sticking out of his chartreuse bob, And somehow that made an impact.
Beelzebub yelled out suddenly as the fists connected with his hair, Her wrist escaping his grasp as his own went to hold the painful spot on his head. He stumbled forward, Whining in agony.
"W-Why'd you do that?! Why.. Why'd you.. YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THAT HURTS?!" He suddenly yelled out, Body snapping around to meet her with a new animalistic glare. Teeth sharper than they were before and the slits of his eyes widening in anger.
But by the time he had looked back, She was gone from sight.
[F/N] ran, Already making her way through the opposite side of the forest. What had came over Beelzebub she had no idea, The way he started to get aggressive and how much he wanted her to stay.
A bad feeling came over her, Something was wrong. Something was very wrong as she ran past dozens of tree's and shrubbery. Wind whipping at her face as her eyes darted around for Tetsuya.
She needed to get him and get out of here, There was something in this forest that seemed alive. [F/N] didn't know exactly what it was or if it was connected to Beelzebub. All she knew is that whatever it was, It was something not meant for human beings to be near.
Feet pattering against the grass like thunder strikes in the distance, Lungs becoming heavy. Her eyes zipping around for any sign of her friend. His yellow raincoat, His wellington boots or the ruffle of his hair.
[F/N] called out.
"Tetsuya! T-Tetsuya! Tetsu-"
[F/N] stopped in her tracks, Feet skittering to a halt and planting in the ground.
Her eyes widened.
The scent of iron played in the air.
But that wasn't what she was focused on, No.
Instead it was the mess of meat and bone splattered on the ground.
Muscle tissue was strewn everywhere, The green of the grass splattered crimson. The stench of iron coming from the spill of organs. A heart pinned to a tree there, Lungs laying against a rock and his intestines strung like birthday banners upon branches.
The worst of all was the yellow raincoat carrying it all. Stained with the blood of the boy it belonged to.
[F/N] screamed.
She backed away, Her feet catching on nothing as she tripped over and slammed down onto the bloody grass. [F/N] screamed and screamed, Eyes unable to take her eyes off of the yellow raincoat and the wellington boots put to the side.
The body of a squashed caterpillar sitting on top of him.

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: "But it's cool in a weird way that I wish I could be"
Tumblr media
Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made of glutinous rice pounded into a paste and molded into shapes. It can be eaten on its own or used as an ingredient in various dishes and desserts.
It is often eaten on new years as a tradition, Being a favoured treat among many.
Women paraded back and forth, All tending to the woman resting within her futon.
His mothers chambers, Michikatsu had been awoken by her cries reverberating through the house during the middle of the night. He had been expecting this, Of course. His mother's pregnancy had been long awaited, Only now had it come to fruition.
It had taken hours, Michikatsu unable to sleep had decided to wait outside of her room, Listening to the wails of Akeno and the feverous support of the midwives hired by his father.
His father, Of course, Was nowhere about.
But finally, It was all over. Though he had meant to return to bed once Akeno calmed down, Michikatsu had decided to stick around.
Though he really could care less about his new sibling, He supposed it would only be right to get a first glance.
So here he was, Stood within his parents chambers.
The midwives took no heed to young Michikatsu who shuffled around awkwardly near the corner of the room. It was barely even early morning, The sky outside shining in a light shade of marigold, The sun barely cracked over the horizon to let it in through the window.
None of them wanted to bother with the young master, All of the mid-wives focusing on his mother who had just given birth.
Akeno layed atop her futon, Long ebony hair splayed out around her as she breathed in and out, Closed eyes as she tried to catch her breath.
What loose satiny bedwear she wore was splayed out, Especially at the chest to make way for the new-born resting upon her skin. They were freshly washed, Cleaned of all the grime from her birth.
Michikatsu could barely make them out, Mostly due the the cerulean blue of cloth she was swaddled in.
"Michikatsu.. Come closer."
Michikatsu blinked, Looking towards his mothers face to find out she had finally noticed he was in the room. She breathed, A small yet exhausted smile on her face as she turned to face her eldest son.
Michikatsu obliged, Slowly walking forward amongst the pandemonium of midwifes still hustling about. Almost nervously he approached his mother before him, Who smiled up at her son from her futon.
A tired, Yet genuine smile.
"Closer. Do you want to hold her, Michikatsu..?" Akeno asked, Cradling her daughter close to her chest as she looked up at him with a smile. Michikatsu however, Looked down at her with apprehension.
Holding a new-born, A child that wasn't even birthed an hour ago? That itself wasn't appealing, Coupled with the fact that he himself shouldn't even be here right now, His father always saying that he shouldn't bother to interfere with the more feminine matters of the clan.
But he stepped closer anyways, Just as his mother asked.
"Here, Stretch out your arms.. Michikatsu." Akeno said, The baby cradled near her chest was scooped up into her arms. A hand carefully holding her head, The other on her little back to steady her in Akeno's arms.
"Akeno-hime! Please, You must rest!"
Akeno propped herself up, The mid-wives in the room calling for her to be careful as they continued to tend to her needs. Akeno only ignored their concerns, Beckoning her son as she presented his newest sibling to him.
Michikatsu swallowed back his apprehension, An unsure and rather averse expression as he laid out his hands infront of him. Akeno smiled, The baby still swaddled in her cerulean cloth as she was outstretched to him.
She was lowered, Michikatsu's fingers twitched as his palms finally came in contact with her.
"There you go, Michikatsu. Hold her to your chest, Give her support." Akeno said as she watched Michikatsu react to her. He stared down at her, Examining her almost.
She wasn't even crying, Instead sleeping soundly, Cuddled up warm in her blanket.
Michikatsu gulped, Swallowing down that unfamiliar feeling rising in his throat with a slight frown. Nodding slightly at Akeno's words as he brought her closer to him, Resting her against him, An odd warmth starting to come from her.
Michikatsu could barely speak, Only stare down at her resting face. Her little nose, Her little ears, Her big eyes that were shut soundly asleep. Michikatsu could even see a few tufts of baby hair resting on her head. All of it seemed so..
"No, No.. You need to support her head." Akeno corrected, Gesturing towards the baby's head which laid drooped to it's side, Making her little face start to scrunch up. Michikatsu quickly moved a hand to the back of her head, Lifting it up onto his shoulder.
"Uhm.. Like this?" Michikatsu asked, Her tiny body resting comfortably against him as he showed his mother.
"Yes. You're doing amazing." Akeno nodded with a tired sigh as she lowered back down onto her futon, Her weary body needing the rest, Head laying against the fluff of her pillow as she oversaw her children getting along.
Akeno beamed, Watching her children get along, Just like she had wanted.
"Michikatsu, This is [F/N].. She's your little sister." She spoke with a gleam in her eyes.
"[F/N].." Michikatsu whispered.
Michikatsu only rocked her slightly in his arms, Swearing that once her head hit his shoulder, Her breathing grew lighter than it did before. Still fast asleep, Her curled fingers clutched together in tiny fists.
Michikatsu didn't know what to think, Why he even went to hold her in the first place was a mystery to himself. But he supposed he was happy that he did, Though happiness wasn't quite the right word as his emotions were at war with one and other.
Father had always said he shouldn't get involved with gynecian matters of the family, The one's concerning women. Even leading up to the birth of his next sibling, He had warned Michikatsu to pay no heed entirely, As doing such would distract from his studies as the Tsugikuni's next Daimyo.
It was like that with Yorichii too, Unable to speak or interact with him either, But Michikatsu never obeyed that rule too well just as he was doing now.
Michikatsu knew that his father wouldn't be proud, But Akeno very much was as she watched him rock his little sister back and forth, And right now that was enough.
"She must really like you.. You know, I can already tell you'll be an amazing big brother to her. Treat her well.. Understand?" Akeno spoke, Feeling her body start to relax upon her futon, Growing tired once more.
"Yes, Mother.." Michikatsu muttered, Too focused to listen to her words yet his agreement meant all the same. He held her close, Tight as he could without the worry of harming her. Michikatsu tried not to let his smile show through, Though that task seemed much more herculean by the second.
He'd be the best big brother to [F/N], Michikatsu knew.
☆♡☆
[F/N]'s eyes snapped open, Her body jerking, Gasping for air.
The darkness of her room was the first thing she acknowledged, Only the bare outlines made out from within the complete blackness.
Perspiration dampened her brow as she heaved in and out.
Her body was numb, Pins and needles itching in her legs. [F/N] groaned as she raised a achy hand to her head, Swiping the lather off of her brow before thumping it back down onto the mattress.
Fuck, Her visions had returned. This one was unlike the others as it was much more abstract and splotchy, Not unlike a murky pond.
It wasn't much of a vision, But more of a feeling. Though there were glimpses of settings, Women rushing back, Blurry figures who's faces couldn't be made out- All and all it felt more like a sequence of feelings.
What felt like her head resting against the welcoming warmth of a chest, Her body wrapped in something soft and delicate. It was nothing like her other visions where she had full sight of what she was perceiving, No, This was different.
It was weird.
[F/N] breathed, Steadying her breath and calming the drum of her heart. What it meant, She never knew. [F/N] supposed she'd just need to wait and see, To find out what it meant the next night. Or day, [F/N] could never tell when she was in this pit of a hellhole.
[F/N] groaned, Hands aimlessly grasping at the covers to toss them off. Her body was hit with the cold chill of the shrine once they were finally tossed to the side, [F/N] barely shuddering anymore, Having adapted to the gelidity.
She breathed out as her soles of her feet hit the floorboards, Vapour turning to mist. Feeling an itch, She yawned as she raised another hand to the back of her head. Though instead of the fibres of her hair, [F/N] instead felt the solid touch of something cold.
A brow raised.
[F/N] cupped it in her hands, Feeling around before realising what it was.
It was her hairpin, The little rose shaped sapphire with pretty little perals draping down from it. It was clipped into her hair, [F/N] feeling the cool hardened gem under her touch, She hummed.
She must've put it on and forgotten to take it out when she went to sleep..
"Strange.." [F/N] breathed, Still groggy.
Finally scratching the itch at the back of her head, She rolled her shoulders before pushing herself off of the bed. [F/N] huffed, Knowing that Akaza would bother her if she didn't eat. Eyes still heavy, She turned towards the dresser where a simple meal was scheduled to lay.
[F/N] stopped however, Freezing in her place. It was still there, A plate of tempura laid on the table. But it wasn't what [F/N] focused on as her eyes narrowed onto a shape.
It was.. A book.
One with a hardcover, Thick and sure to have a hefty page count, All of it being bound by silver twine. It sat huddled amongst the piles of bowls and cutlery that had been building up for ages now, [F/N] seeming to loose her clean-streak ever since she got here.
But even so, She didn't remember having any kind of reading material here.
"What the hell.." [F/N] muttered to no one but herself as she stepped forward towards the dresser. Floorboards creaking, Her hands reached out towards the periwinkle cover of the book, A colour she could only make out once she grew closer.
She picked it up, Feeling the texture of the hardcover's cloth under her thumb. [F/N] squinted her eyes, Bringing the book up to her face to translate the title through the shadows.
One.
[F/N]'s face scrunched up once she read the text illustrated on the front cover, There was no title she could recognise. She wasn't even able to make out an author, As there was none listed on the cover. Why it was on her dresser eluded her.
One? The title didn't make any sense to her. Was that simply.. It? Or was it saying that it was the first in some mystery series, One with no name and no author to identify it. [F/N] scoffed slightly.
Moving over to the wall beside her bed space, [F/N] figured she might as well skim through the pages. Leaning over to the wall, She lowered down to see the groupings of tally marks behind her bed. Too many to count at first glance now, But she reached over and began to scratch another one in anyways.
As her nail etched away at the rotting wood of her walls, She thought she might as well find somewhere comfortable to look through the book. The courtyard perhaps? It was the warmest part of this entire place, But it had become rather.. Repetitive to always head there. Another thought came to mind, Making [F/N] hum.
The library.
It had been ages since she had stepped foot in there, Only dipping her toes in the shallow end when she explored the layout of The Infinity Shrine (The name [F/N] used for this place to separate it from the proper shrine, Though now defunct)
[F/N] decided that she should probably go check it out further, Besides it would only be right to read some mystery book in some mystery shrine. Another line was finally added to the tally as she retracted her hand from the wall.
Yawning, [F/N] snatched the plate of tempura before turning on her heel and dragging her feet towards the door. She brushed past the rickety old closet, Too apathetic to change out of her nightwear.
[F/N] groaned, Pinching her temple as she lugged the shoji-door open with her free hand.

It was a beautiful morning, The sun raising over the skyline.
A quaint village sat within the vastness of a flatland valley, Surrounded by a ring of rocky mountainside. Snow-capped peaks to contrast the morning warmth flooding through the little town, The one that only just started to awaken not long ago.
It was beautiful, The scenery straight out of painting.
Tree's abloom in rosy shades of pink flourished from the branches, Swaying in the gentle wind, Their petals detaching and dancing as they fell down onto the timberland grass. A beautiful scent, The subtle sweet of their saccharine invading the senses.
As the oaken wheels of the coach rattled along the pathway, She breathed it in.
Mitsuri was perched at the back, Sitting comfortably on the ledge as she took in the scenery with a smile. Admiring the forestry, Glancing at the birds chirping in the trees and the critters running around.
She had only awoken a bit ago, Her braided hair unbrushed and her eyes still a little heavy. Even so she wanted to enjoy the slight chill of the breeze, The building warmth of the day.
The village of Hiyohara, It wasn't too big but it wasn't too small either. Mitsuri could tell that they were coming near as she could hear the faraway call of quiet morning chatter start to build, Hiyohara starting to come alive.
Mitsuri breathed, Almost drinking in the brisk of the air.
"Ah.. I see you're up, Mitsuri-chan!" Shinobu half-yawned with her patron smile. The backdoor of the coach creaked open as Shinobu looked down at her colleague, The wheels still rattling along the trail.
Mitsuri hummed.
"Yeah, Just thought I'd get some air before we do some reconnaissance! Besides, Look at all the pretty blossoms! Perfect time for a mission, Eh~?" Mitsuri chirped as she gestured to all the flourishing scenery rolling by.
"Mhm! We'll be arriving soon, But I suppose stopping to smell the roses won't hurt.." Shinobu's smile widened as she finally stepped out onto the ledge, Holding onto the door handle for balance as the coach continued to roll along the pathway.
Mitsuri looked away from Shinobu in favour of watching her feet dangle from the coach ledge. She breathed, Letting spring air flood through her lungs. Shinobu in turn joined her to metaphorically smell the roses as she said, Staring off into the forest line beside them.
Mitsuri felt the silence weigh on her like paperweights, Shoulders sagging only slightly as her legs swung back and forth.
Turning back towards Shinobu, She smiled.
"Ever been out around here, Shinobu-chan?" Mitsuri asked, Tilting her head slightly as she looked up at her.
Shinobu shook her head.
"Not this area, No. Only knew about it since it had a few resources I needed." She replied shortly as she continued to stare out into the timberland, Watching the scampering of squirrels and the sparrows.
Mitsuri nodded slightly, Her smile quirking only a bit as she gripped the hem of her morning kimono. She sighed slightly as the wagon continued to roll along the pathway, The tree's becoming much less frequent in favour of valley grass now.
Mitsuri fiddled with her fingers a bit, A smile returning to her face.
"..Shinobu, I've actually been meaning to talk to you. Since Gyomei's still asleep and all, I think this a good time to talk! You know, Girl to girl? Friend to friend?" Mitsuri asked as Shinobu turned back down to face her.
Mitsuri paused, Considering her words.
"..I just wanna ask if you're doing alright, You seem a bit off is all." She said slowly, As if testing the waters. "I don't wanna intrude or anything, But if you need someone to talk to, You know I'm here for y-"
"Ah! Apologies to cut you off, Mitsuri-chan!" Shinobu interrupted as the coach began to rattle to a stop, Shinobu's smile as present as the daybreak sun. "But it appears that we've arrived~!"
Mitsuri blinked, Slightly taken aback at the interruption as she watched Shinobu swiftly turn on her heel and swing the door open. Leaning on the doorframe, She peeked inside.
"Himejima-san! We have arrived, It's time to wake up now~!" Shinobu warbled into the dimly lit cabin, Eyes landing on Gyomei who was sat sleeping upright in the far corner. Too big of a build to lay down, Almost crampt in the coach (Bless the man that made this vehicle)
He stirred, Shoulders rolling as if waxing off the numbness of the night. That was all the confirmation that Shinobu needed as the cart finally stopped in place. Shinobu quietly shut the backdoor, Smiling as she turned to breathe in the revitalising air.
The coach stopped just before the gates that began the village, Horses neighing as they paused in their pathway.
Mitsuri hopped down from the ledge as a smile crept up on her, The village being a resplendent, Almost otherworldly sort of scene.
It seemed rich for a village, The houses lined up on the minor gradient all seemed so well made. Expensive wood that didn't seem to splinter, Plants flourishing from their clay pots where they sat upon the rocky walls.
Along with statues of assorted creatures, Polished and carved, Sitting like decorative guard dogs along. It certainly seemed religious.
An elevated pathway lined with smoothen andesite rocks. The village was nestled by the steep start of the rocky mountainous ring, Beautiful leaves burst over the edges of the house tiles and swayed slightly in the higher wind.
Mitsuri could smell the freshness of the air, The chilled natural feeling in her lungs as she breathed in. Feeling it on her bare skin, Waving her braids back and forth as the wind ran throughout the entire valley, Making everything sway.
All of it, It was all beautiful.
"Kya~! How come I've never heard of this place before! Oh- Isn't this just adorable, Shinobu-chan~!" Mitsuri squealed as she ran to cup the face of a miniature Maneki-neko statue, Mitsuri admiring the little feline and the golden coin it held.
Shinobu suppressed a flutter of giggles with her hand.
"Quite! However I do believe we shouldn't be touching what's not ours.." She chided softly as she saw the statue was sitting on the wall of one of the houses, Rolling her eyes slightly at her antics.
"Oh, Right!" Mitsuri gasped, Jumping away from the statue as her hand retracted from it like hot coal. "Still.. I need to get one for myself- Oh! I wonder if there's any shops around~!"
Gyomei finally stepped out of the side-door, Making the carriage depressed on his wheels as he stepped onto the foot-ledge. He breathed in the air, Hummed before stepping off onto the stony floor as he turned to Mitsuri.
"Focus.. Kanroji-san, We're here on investigations purposes only.. Perhaps if the reconnaissance goes well you can have time to browse around." He said as he took a moment to settle.
"Ah, Right!" Mitsuri squealed, Slapping the burn of her rosy flush cheeks. "Focus, Mitsuri, Focus..!"
"Well I suppose we should start investigating and questioning locals!" Shinobu piped in, A voice lower than it usually was as she looked back and forth for any prying locals, Finding none, She turned back towards the two.
"Remember what we discussed? If anyone asks, You are headed to the next village over and only lingering as a pitstop, Understand? Don't make yourself seem suspicious." Shinobu uttered.
"Right!" Both Mitsuri and Gyomei nodded in unison. That was all there was left to say as Shinobu straightened out her spider-black kimono and speed walk off somewhere into the village, Her light-wood sandals clacking as she went.
Gyomei in turn, Did the same. Straightening out his own stone-coloured yukata, Gyomei breathed in before turning to walk off in the opposite direction Shinobu did, Hoping to cover more ground while doing so.
Mitsuri, Left alone. Grinned as she fixed up her bed-hair braids. Making sure to pay the driver of the coach, Where the village broke into three separate pathways, Mitsuri skipped through the middle.
Determined to get her answers, Both for Shinobu and [F/N]'s sake.

Akaza couldn't find [F/N].
Akaza's face scrunched up, His nose twitching as he continued to wander around The Infinity Shrine. Usually she would be lingering somewhere in the courtyard, Occasionally dragging her feet somewhere within the hall.
It's not like he had trouble locating people, Usually that is. Akaza's sense for the fighting spirit was often enough to find someone, Even. As even the most mildest of human had at least some spark he could pick up perhaps even from miles away.
But not [F/N], She was annoying like that in the way she had no fighting spirit, At least none that was able to be picked up.
It was different back then, When they had fought upon the roof of the very shrine Akaza was walking through. Back then it was like a forest fire, A roaring, Wrathful sort of spirit that could bring a man to his knees just from minor exposure.
It almost did to Akaza too. He remembered how crippling it felt, How for once in centuries had he genuinely felt shaken to his core. Hair raised straight from his skin and his punches becoming sloppy. Her aura, It was rancid, It was so disgustingly detectable.
If only it was still like that now, It would be almost too easy to locate her.
Akaza's teeth gritted, Hands clenching into fists.
"HEY! Bastard! Where the hell are you?!" Akaza hollered, Irritation simmering in his voice as his voice echoed down old hallway, Terrifying all invertebrates hurriedly scuttling away.
"KOKUSHIBO'S NOT HERE RIGHT NOW!" A muffled voice replied, Seemingly just as annoyed as he was. It sounded not too faraway, Somewhere round the corner and further down the corridor.
Akaza groaned, Muttering curses under his breath as he marched off towards the root of the voice. The box in his hand shook, The floorboards creaking under his weight as he turned the corner. Count on [F/N] to be a pain in Akaza's ass.
He came face to face with double doors, Not one of the shoji-makes but the kind with a silver doorknob and semi-translucent window in the middle. Part of the weird architecture, Akaza couldn't be bothered to care.
He slammed the wooden doors open, A scowl on his face.
"I've been looking for you for ages! Where the hell have you been?!" Akaza hissed
"It warms my heart to know that you were looking for me." [F/N] said flatly, Not taking her eyes off of the book she appeared to be reading as she sat at a desk. Akaza scoffed, Rolling his eyes as he stepped forward.
"What the hell is this place anyways?" He asked. Glancing back and forth the noticeably large room, Noticing it wasn't one he had ventured through before.
"Akaza, How about you look around and then you tell me?" [F/N] groaned as she licked her thumb and used it to turn the page, Face not bothering to turn and look at him, Instead boring into the ink.
Akaza rolled his eyes, Spitting an insult under his breath but ultimately doing as she said.
As he had noted before, It was large. Tall ceilings that seemed to even cut into the second floor. And unlike the rest of the shrine, It was much better lighted. Most likely from the large window peeking out from the end of the room.
Akaza could see out to the docks, The lambent ocean sloshing outside. Though the entire place was still dimly lit, An ultramarine shine rolled off the edges in the room, Giving the entire room a luminescence much more potent than the rest of the shrine.
It would've been wide open if not from the bookcases, Ones that were almost as tall as the ceiling. But what was weird was that they were empty, Webs and dust piles in favour of books. None to be seen, Not on any shelf.
His eyes narrowed.
"A library." Akaza stated, Continuing to scan the area.
"Wow, What an astute observation..!" [F/N] droned on as her eyes intently read the words on the page. Akaza shook his head as he moved forward to where she was sitting, Almost hidden between two of the bookshelves.
"Who shoved you down the stairs?" Akaza remarked with a jeer on his face. Noticing her rather sour behaviour towards him, It was assumedly gonna Akaza in a few minutes if she kept it up.
[F/N] turned to look up at him, Finally prying her eyes away from whatever book she was reading before sighing.
"No one.. Sorry, I just get a bit annoyed when I'm bothered while reading." [F/N] apologised, Glancing back to the book for only a second as she placed it down onto her desk paper down.
Akaza huffed, Free hand moving to push away some of the decorations on the desk.
"Whatever, Here's your food.." He said, Placing the wooden lunchbox . Candles, Ink jars and spare paper side-lined to the edges in favour of the fairly hefty lunchbox, The one [F/N] looked at with apprehension.
"Thanks, But I've kind've already got Tempura." She said, Freehand moving to the other side of the desk where she picked up and presented a plate with untouched tempura, Giving him an apologetic look.
Akaza rolled his eyes.
"Uneaten Tempura." He corrected. "Besides, You'll need all the energy you can get."
Akaza watched as her face scrunch up slightly, Giving him the same look as a kid would do while doing some tedious chore. Akaza was almost ready to tell her off like he did last time, But instead she just rolled her eyes and slumped her shoulders in defeat.
"..Fine, Seems a bit excessive but I'll have it I guess. Don't think you'd let me leave any scraps anyways.." [F/N] sighed.
"Nope. Also got more of the rope you wanted in there, Few more of the nails too."
"Oh.. Yeah, Forgot about that. Really need to start making that rope.." [F/N] muttered, A sort of epiphany-induced look coming over her as she seemed to get lost in thought. Hand wandering, She aimlessly picked up the book.
Akaza huffed.
"You better.." He replied shortly.
He got no response after that.
Akaza watched as she flipped the book back up to face her, Bury her head back into those pages as she hunched over on the desk. [F/N] was out of it, Akaza could tell. Even to the point of momentarily forgetting her own plan of scaling The Infinity Castle.
She didn't really pay attention to him afterwards, Leaving Akaza feeling only slightly uncomfortable as he watched her flick through the book. He could only put up with it for a few moments before deciding to saunter round to her other side.
Sighing, He leant himself up against the wall where the desk was cozied in.
"So.. What are you reading?" Akaza asked, Trying to break the air of awkwardness that seemed to be present around them.
"Some weird old diary." [F/N] responded curtly, Continuing to flick through the pages.
Akaza huffed.
"Looks like a book to me." He remarked as he eyed up the hardcover spine of the book, Examining the blue it was bound in and the hefty page number it was sure to have.
"Looks like a book, Is actually some girl's journal." [F/N] corrected, Slightly flaunting it with the single hand she held it in. "Found it on my dresser and decided to skim through. Don't know how it got there but.. It's kind of interesting so I'll let it go for now."
Akaza frowned.
"I wouldn't, I'd figure out how the hell it got there." He said, Leaning over to take a good scan of the page she was reading.
[F/N] side-eyed him for a second, Glancing back between him and the book.
"..Maybe I just never noticed it before, I'm not exactly the brightest and my room is pretty dark." [F/N] muttered, More to herself than to Akaza as she turned back to the journal. Even she didn't believe it, [F/N] knew it wasn't there before but..
She supposed she just didn't have the energy right now to question it further. Maybe once she choked down the rather excessive amount of food surrounding her, Would she find the will to question how it got there.
She sighed, Feeling the stagnancy in her chest.
Noticing the silence, [F/N] bit her lip.
"..It's about some girl called 'Akeno Matsubara'" [F/N] spoke, Looking up at Akaza without turning her head at all. "Right now I'm just reading about her upcoming marriage to some man. Apparently she was some noblewoman of sorts from the Sengoku period.."
Akaza 'hmphed' before leaning over a bit further, Scrutinizing both her and the pages.
"Sound's boring." He stated simply as he read a few lines himself, Mundanity being the takeaway.
"Well it's not like I've got much else to read here.." [F/N] sighed as she half-heartedly gestured to the empty rows on the bookshelves, Voice and movement dripping in boredom "If you haven't noticed.. I don't have much to do."
Akaza didn't need to look again to notice the significant emptiness of it all, He felt it in his skin. Akaza huffed, Almost, Almost feeling pity for her. He could leave whenever he wanted, She could not.
Pitiful, That's what she was. Akaza almost debated getting her a few more books to fill the shelve-
CREAK!
Both bodies at the desk jolted. [F/N] quickly slapping the journal down while Akaza instantly shoved himself up from the wall he leant on.
Both on guard, Both of their muscles tensing.
The noise that echoed out, Both knew very well what it was. Akaza especially as he had caused it only a few minutes ago, From him slamming open that door, The creak erupting from the hinges had happened again.
[F/N] swallowed though her mouth was dry, Due to the way they were positioned, They were unable to see the double-doors due to a bookshelf being in the way. [F/N]'s breath hitched.
Was it Kokushibo? He couldn't be here- Not while Akaza was present! He'd catch him-
"Oh, Goddamnit.. Who the hell let you in here?!"
Akaza hissed, Making [F/N] whip her head up to glare at him. But Akaza wasn't focused on her, Only staring at the figure lingering by the bookcase. [F/N] noticing this, Drew her attention towards the person.
And suddenly, [F/N] groaned.
"I could say the same thing about you, Akaza-dono!" Kaigaku stood in his full unshameful glory by the bookcase. His beady, Electric blue eyes glaring into Akaza as he held some kind of basket in his hands.
Though he eventually noticed [F/N], His demeanour instantly softening up as he raised the basket in his hands.
"Oh, Um! [F/N]-sama! I brought you food!" Kaigaku grinned, Holding up a fair wicker of assorted peaches like a cat with a bloody mouse in it's maw. Proudly displaying it as if he didn't see the building mountain of food surrounding her.
If the look on [F/N]'s face could kill, Kaigaku would be a bloody smear across the library floor.

Skipping along the stony pathway, Mitsuri's blush flourished under the morning rays.
The feeling of the air seeping into her skin, Her braids dancing as she pranced around the expanse of the village-space. It was revitalising, Even though Mitsuri travelled all over, The air here seemed much fresher around here, It was energising.
Though she was focused on her mission to the core, She couldn't deny that she enjoyed the scenery. The architecture of the lined buildings was traditional, All decorated to the nines statues and flourishing in plant life. Hanging from the windows, Potted in clusters by the doors.. Botany thrived.
Mitsuri breathed in the air once more, Though this time she picked up a rather enticing scent. Her eyes lit up, Sniffing the air once more she could definetly smell it now, Much more potent.
That smells good. For the notorious glutton that Mitsuri was, That was the least of her thoughts as she turned on her heel and headed in the direction of that saccharine scent. Mitsuri grinned, An opportunity for both food and investigation.
"Hello~?"
Mitsuri chirped as she peered around the corner of one of the houses, Bright in the eyes as she noticed what looked to be a merchants stall starting to open. A few boxes of assorted items surrounded it, A water filled pot hung over a little ember at the side.
An older man standing behind the counter. He looked up, A kind smile on his weathered face.
"Ah, Greetings! I see you're up rather early!" He commented with mirth as he knelt down to lug a few boxes up onto the stand.
"Oh my! I'm so sorry, Should I come back later?" Mitsuri spoke almost apologetically as she bowed down.
The man shook his head, Instead waving her over.
"No, No! Come sit down, I'll make you something to eat! I'm always happy to serve customers!" He laughed as he started to unbox some of the packages, Waving her over with one hand.
Mitsuri smiled, Praising how kind he was both in her head and out loud as she pranced over to the stool-setup he had at the stand. Quickly sitting down on one of the tall stools, She leaned over on the counter.
"Kyah~! Thank you so much! Apologies, I'm not from around here..!" Mitsuri explained with a smile as the man started to unpack the food from the boxes, Mitsuri now realising that this was a breakfast stand.
Her eyes started to shimmer as she watched him lift mochi-dough from the boxes, Realising that this was where that beautiful smell was coming from.
"I can tell, Would probably remember you from your hair!" The man commented as he placed the roll of mochi-dough down onto the counter. "So tell me, Traveller, What brings you around these parts?"
Mitsuri hummed, Swinging her legs like an excited child as she scratched the back of her head.
"Ah- Was on my way to the next village over but decided to stop here for some food before heading off~!" Mitsuri answered with a grin, Happily keeping up her calm as she chatted to the man.
"Well, I suppose you're in at the right time! Though, Don't really have the ingredients for much at this time, But I do have some left over ingredients for Mochi. I understand dessert is not ideal breakfast food but.."
"Oh don't worry, That's no problem to me at all~!" Mitsuri cheered much more enthusiastically than she probably should have, Her blush burning like an inferno on her cheeks.
The man chuckled slightly.
"Good to know! Red bean paste fine by you?" The man asked, Beginning to knead the dough with his seasoned hands.
"Fine by me~!"
"Aha~! Umeko, I finally found you!"
Mitsuri's eyes widened as a familiar, Jovial voice called out from behind her. Whipping her head behind her, She was met with Shinobu strolling towards them in leisure. Mitsuri raised a brow, Watching as she came closer.
"Umeko..?" Mitsuri muttered to herself, Watching her saunter.
Shinobu's smile widened as she approached, Her glossy eyes meeting with the green of Mitsuri's. A quick look shared between them, It made Mitsuri gasp softly before jerking her head back towards the man.
"Ah- Yes! I forgot to introduce myself, My name is.. Fujimori, Umeko! This is my sister and one of my travel companions, Hina." Mitsuri introduced, Gesturing towards Shinobu.
Shinobu, Her eyes widened slightly at the choice of last name, Before regaining her exterior smile and turning towards the man with a courteous bow. Quickly moving to sit on the adjacent stool to Mitsuri, She beamed at her.
"Aha.. Umeko, I almost lost you there for a minute! You should know by now not to get distracted by the smell of food." Shinobu chided softly as she turned to Mitsuri, The man continuing to knead the dough.
"Aha.. Well you know me.." Mitsuri laughed off, Rubbing the back of her head.
The man smiled as he massaged the dough with his hands.
"I see..! My name is Takashi, Tenko. As you can see, I'm a noticeably passionate chef!" Tenko chuckled as he gestured towards the dough he pressed in his hands, Glancing at Shinobu. "You want some? This mochi is the best in the village, If I must say!"
"Ah.. No, No. I must decline! " Shinobu agreed before looking back towards the busy man. "However, On the topic of this village, I must admit I'm interested! It's a rather beautiful place, Pretty prosperous too~?"
Tenko nodded along to her words, A smile on his face as grasped onto a smaller knife and begin to cut the dough into eighths.
"Suppose so! Business is never slow.. Crime isn't a particular issue here-" Tenko listed off as he reached into one of the box, Pulling out a little bag filled with red paste. "Personally, Everyone here is like family to one and other. We help each other out, It's how we operate! Also the reason why we prosper, If you ask me."
Shinobu nodded as she watched him continue to dice the dough, A somewhat thoughtful smile as she happily sat on the stool.
Tenko chuckled under his breath, His smile broadening only a little wider.
"That, And the faith, That is..!" He laughed slightly, A joke he easily dismissed as he shook his head.
Both Shinobu and Mitsuri perked up at that, Their minds flipped like a switch as both of them got on game. Shinobu especially, His words seeming to catch her fancy as she leaned just a bit closer to Tenko.
"Faith? What do mean by that?" Shinobu asked with a sweet little tune to her voice, Almost sickeningly so. However Tenko didn't seem to mind as he began to divide the paste between the eighths.
"Ah.. This village you see is housed next to some religious group, They work closely with the village and such. We export food to them for a fee.. They come down during festivals, Business usually booms with the extra lot of people around you see!" Tenko explained as he began to roll the dough.
"Oh! How interesting!" Shinobu cheered slightly. "Do you mind telling me more? I must say you've peeked my interest!"
Mitsuri internally sighed as she listened to Shinobu and Tenko idly chat, Despite her elation that they had gotten something from the conversation- Mitsuri was simply glad that she didn't need to ask the questions.
She smiled at Shinobu, Who intently played along with Tenko's words. Mitsuri was never that good with acting gigs, So she was glad that there was someone here that had the guts to do it.
Mitsuri's lips thinned.
Surprisingly well.
Tenko hummed as he started to fold the mochi dough over the filling.
"Can't exactly remember their name but.. I'm pretty sure it's a gathering of Shinto-Buddhist believers. Some splinter group, Actually. Only thing I really remember about them is that they believe in some sort of 'Lotus' thing.." Tenko trailed, Waving his free hand around as if throwing his words to the wind.
Shinobu's eyes narrowed on him, Her lips pursing only slightly.
"And.. Do you believe in their doctrines at all? Any truth to them?" Shinobu asked, Tilting her head.
"Oh, Who knows! Me and my wife have never been particularly religious, But we can't deny the fortune that has came to the village!" Tenko laughed as he finished rolling the dough into little cream coloured chunks.
"Right, I see.." Mitsuri mumbled, Her mind somewhere further off as she listened to them speak.
"I must admit I am rather curious about the faith, You've peaked my interest! Me and Umeko here have always been quite religious, And before we head out again it would be pleasant to go make a few offerings to the Kami we worship! For good luck, And such.." Shinobu said, Eyes not removing from his.
Tenko frowned, Shaking his head.
"Oh, Erm- It's rather high up within the mountain, I'm not quite sure you'll make it up there and down if you want to make it to the next village over.." He said, Slightly awkward now as her stare got just the tiniest bit more intense.
"Our schedule is flexible." Shinobu stated, Her voice holding much more urgency than it did before yet her face stayed the same.
The little cream coloured chunks sat steady on Tenko's palm, His movements paused as he was about to place them in the metallic pot beside the stand. Looking into Shinobu's eyes, His own narrowed.
Mitsuri bit her lip, Breathing in a sharp hitch of that energizing air. It didn't do much to help however, As she wondered if Tenko had decided that something might be up with them. Could he know? Was he involved with this so called cult somehow?
But before long, Tenko raised his hand, Gesturing up towards one of the unfathomably high mountainsides that suffocated the village in a ring.
"Up on the mountains, Over by the north side..! They're a secluded bunch but when they come down for festivals and such, They're rather polite and respectful. I'm sure they wouldn't mind accepting a few offerings." Tenko said, Finally plopping the little mochi balls into the heated water.
Shinobu's smile started to soften, Finally relaxing on her barstool as she laid back.
"I see! I apologise for bothering you so much!" Shinobu said as she bowed her head towards him, A gesture of apologia as she spoke.
"It's alright, I don't mind. Besides," Tenko said, Bending down to pick up a metallic lid and placing it over the steaming pot. "Your food will be ready in about twenty minutes, You can come back later to pick them up if you want to continue exploring the village. Is that good with you, Fujimori-san?"
Mitsuri's eyes widened.
"Oh, Um! How much do I owe you?" She gasped, Chiding herself about forgetting payment as she reached into her obi for the money she stored in there. Completely ignoring the weird look Shinobu gave her as she did.
However before Mitsuri could pull out her purse, A hand softly gripped onto her wrist.
"Ah, Don't worry about it! It's free of charge." Tenko assured, Relenting his easy grip on her wrist with a kind smile. Mitsuri shook her head, Almost jumping up from the stool she was perched on.
"Oh, No! Theres no possible way I can accept this, You've been so kind and helpful.. Please, Let me pay!" Mitsuri implored as she leaned towards him, Her heart aching as she fished out her purse-pouch and presented it to him.
But Tenko just shook his head and smiled, Nudging her purse away from him..
"No, No. Think of this as a welcome to town gift, Besides if you're going to be travelling up the mountain then you'll need plenty of energy! I'll set some extra's on for your journey there too.."
Mitsuri's blush burned bright, Her smile sweet and wide as she looked at him with her trademark adoration. Her hands ran to grasp his, Tenko's eyes widened as he was suddenly faced with the burning up visage of his customer.
She grinned, Pulling him into an over the counter bear hug. Mitsuri's strong grip holding him as tight and as gratefully as she could.
"Thank you so much sir, You have no idea how much this means to me!"
Tenko sighed with a kind smile, Lightly patting her back as he returned the favour.
Mitsuri spoke her goodbyes to the man, Shinobu's following after as they departed from the stand. Mitsuri skipped behind Shinobu as she strode off, Her stride determined as they both headed to find their third colleage, Gyomei.
Mitsuri breathed, Skipping behind Shinobu as they searched for him. The village became more alive by the minute, People starting to venture out from their homes and wander the streets as they went.
Smiling, Mitsuri greeted them all with a chipper tone.
Smiling, Shinobu's pace only quickened.
☆♡☆
"The hell are you even here for? You're not exactly welcome here, You little shit."
"Why I'm here is none of your business!"
"The annoying fucking voice in my ear is making it my goddamn business!"
[F/N]'s brows were knitted as she continued to read the next passage in the journal, Though it felt harder and harder by the second from the constant drone of argument in the background.
Her hands gripped the pages, Needing to restart the same line for the fifth time as she was interrupted again. Her breathing became manual, And if either of them bothered to look closer they would've seen veins start to burst in her forehead.
Kaigaku scoffed at Akaza's words, Nose pointing into his face.
"I think that's just the Tinnitus, Akaza-dono! Oh excuse me for saying, But with how horribly sickly you look, I wouldn't put it past you!"
"Oh, That's it! I'm going to fucking tear you a new on-"
"SHUT UP!"
[F/N] finally snapped, Whipping her head over to the two demons spatting on the other side of the room. Both of them instantly wound their jaws shut once they heard her shrill scream, Both taking glances back from her to each other.
[F/N] muttered curses under her breath as she turned back towards the journal, Her hand sluggishly wandering up to the basket of peaches. The mountain of food surrounding her barely half-eaten as she grasped another ripe peach into her hand.
Akaza groaned, Harshly shoving Kaigaku out of his face who shot him a nasty look. He didn't bother returning it as he waltzed over to [F/N], Who half-nibbled into the punchy skin of the peach with her focus entirely on the book.
Leaning up against the wall beside her, He spoke.
"..The hell are you gonna do about him?" Akaza said lowly, Eyes darting from [F/N] to Kaigaku who lazed against the wall from the other side of the room, Staring them down from afar.
She didn't look at Akaza, [F/N] only continued to nibble on the peach.
"What can I do about him, Akaza?" [F/N] sighed. She single-handedly flipped the page, Taking a rather generous bite into the lush peach in her hand. "He's under Kokushibo, I tell him to leave and he'll snitch." She finally took her eyes off the journal for a second, Shooting him a calm yet irritated look to which Akaza sneered at.
"Oh, Come on. You can read that journal thing later, Don't you think you should be dealing with that brat first? Especially if that thing has actual information about.. You know." Akaza eluded, His voice low and quiet.
Her escape, Those were the words that Akaza meant to say. But she knew he wouldn't dare to speak them while Kokushibo's lap dog was around. [F/N] could see him watching intently from the farther side of the library, Knowing that his enhanced hearing was enough to listen in.
"Yeah, About that training regiment you mentioned a while back." [F/N] lied, Trying to keep her eyes as conspicuous as possible and away from Kaigaku. "Besides, I'll take care of it later, I've got better things to do right now than deal with you two."
Akaza scoffed, Rolling his eyes.
"Like what? Aren't you gonna come up with some plan to get him out of your hair? Come on, The hell you acting so bored for?" Akaza questioned as she watched her shoot him an exasperated look.
[F/N] shook her head. It was none of his business why she felt so lacklustre and he had no right to be questioning her as such. Taking another chunk out of the ripeness of the peach, She shrugged her shoulders.
"Like reading the journal, It's actually getting interesting. Not to mention sleep, It's only been an hour or two since I woke and I'm honestly still a bit groggy." [F/N] said calmly, Yet there was a firm pique to her voice. "Besides, If he was gonna tell Kokushibo that you were here he would've done it by now. Quite frankly, I don't even know why he hasn't snitched."
"He hasn't snitched yet because he's a weaselly little bitch who likes snapping his jaws at the bigger dogs." Akaza retorted, Folding his arms firmly.
"What was that, Akaza-dono?"
Both of them drew their attention to Kaigaku, Who had moved closer in the time that they talked with one and other. That bootlicking expression was prominent on his face, Toothy smile and all.
Akaza didn't like the look of it as he gritted his teeth, Veins almost popping from his clenched fists as he pushed himself up from the wall.
"I said that you're a weaselly little bitch who likes picking fights with people that could bench you like a paperweight." Akaza repeated, Slowly so that Kaigaku could pick up every syllable on his tongue.
He snarled as he looked at Akaza, Kaigaku's claws itching to get to his neck as he stepped closer.
"Just because you consider yourself strong right now, You know you can't attack me." Kaigaku eluded, A putrid memory appearing in Akaza's mind. The warning of how Kaigaku wouldn't hesitate to go run off and tell Kokushibo.
It made him feel weak, Akaza almost rolled his shoulders back in anticipation for a fight.
Though an hand gently, Yet firmly pulled him back by the wrist.
"Can you two just.. Not start another fight? Peace and quiet is a very viable option, You know." [F/N] sighed as she softly tugged Akaza away from Kaigaku, An exasperated expression on her face as her stare bored into the boy in front of him.
Kaigaku's eyes widened, His body jolting as if from a shock.
"Y-Yes [F/N]-sama!" Kaigaku chirped, His demeanour flicking like a switch at the first sound of her words. Instantly the scowl on his face dissolved into that of submission, His eyes focused intently on the woman in front of him.
Akaza sneered.
"Fucking dog.." He muttered under his breath as [F/N] let go of his wrist, The warmth fading on his skin.
"Thank you.." [F/N] sighed as she picked up her half-eaten peach once more, Taking another few chunks out of the fruit. A glint appeared in Kaigaku's eyes as he watched her take a bite.
"..Do you like them? They're handpicked!" Kaigaku asked with a toothy grin.
[F/N] chewed into it, Tasting the punchy lushness of the peach on her tongue as she glanced at him.
"..They're fine, Thank you." [F/N] nodded slightly through her consumption, A bored somewhat monotone reply that seemed to make him wag his metaphorical tail.
Akaza rolled his eyes, Scrutinizing Kaigaku.
"You know.. We're trying to have a private conversation here, Don't you have anything else to do? At all? Neither of us want a fucking rat around." He said which earned him a look from [F/N], Warning him not to start another draining fight.
"..I'm not a rat." Kaigaku's grin got more strained as it turned to Akaza, Most definetly trying not to go for the jugular.
"Erm.. Well I mean, Aren't you? You must be an informant for Kokushibo, Otherwise why would you be here?" [F/N] asked lazily as she watched him turn to her with a sort of quizzical look.
Kaigaku scratched the back of his head.
"Uh.. I wouldn't put it that way, [F/N]-sama! I'd see me more.. As your assistant!" Kaigaku chimed, Snapping his fingers. "Sure I might tell my master a few things, But that's just for your sake! Besides, If you want anything, I'm willing to get you a few things!"
"..I get all that from Akaza, Just without the cons." [F/N] bluntly said, Making Kaigaku's smile instantly drop from his face.
"Exactly, So get out of here." Akaza ordered, An arm raising to point in the general direction of the door, His broken-glass eyes kept focused on the way Kaigaku's face contorted at his verbal contribution.
Kaigaku could barely supress a sneer as he glared at him. How dare he try to order him around when Akaza wasn't even suppose to be here in the first place? It almost surprised him, His lack of good conscious.
The gall he had, Kaigaku thought. If he wanted to survive he should keep his mouth shut.
He 'hmphed', Narrowing his eyes in on him.
"I'm here full time now, Since you revealed my position to my master that means I don't need to watch from afar now. Sorry but.. I'm not going anywhere, Not while Akaza-dono is here." Kaigaku said, Almost smugly as he eyed him up and down.
Full-time? Akaza felt something start to burn in his chest. Remembering the rope still stored in the food crate, There was no way [F/N] would be able to construct it with him around. There would be no way for her to get out and give him his end of the deal.
Akaza sighed, Stepping forward as he pinched his temples.
"..You know what? Fuck it."
"ACK-"
Suddenly a fist slammed into the side of Kaigaku's head, Flesh tearing in two as the top half of Kaigaku's flew off from his jaw.
It slammed against the wall, Splattering ichor everywhere. Blood bursting from both his stumbling body and the half-head flopping down with a wet slap onto the old wooden floorboards.
"Akaza!" [F/N] scolded, Her eyes widening as she glared at the dripping red coming down from his fist.
Akaza breathed an almost relieved sigh as he glanced at her.
"What? The little bastard deserved it." He shrugged. Kaigaku's body stumbled aimlessly before he regenerated, Flesh growing back into his head with those same black tufts drooping from his head.
"Y-You basta- ACK-!" Akaza's fist collided with him again, Shooting another spray of blood across the floorboards and another headpiece against the wall.
"I'm not comfortable with harming children, Akaza. Human or demon." [F/N] stated as she watched Kaigaku's near-headless body stammer and stumble around, Hands grasping at where his missing crown was.
"Brat. How old are you?" Akaza asked as his head regenerated once more.
Kaigaku hissed.
"I-I'm nintee- ACK!"
"Well, He's not a child." Akaza stated as he shook the blood off like dirt from his fists, A sort of ick on his face as it hit the floor.
"..I guess so?" [F/N] shrugged though she still didn't seem satiated, Watching on edge, Shoulders raised as she squirmed at the sight of all the blood splattered and festering on the floorboards.
Kaigaku's body finally wobbled back out of Akaza's range, His feet trying to balance themselves as his head finally grew back up to it's full unglory, An enraged scowl on his face that landed on Akaza.
"Y-You bitch!" Kaigaku stammered out, His face lit up like a flame He growled, Almost like a wild animal as he stomped towards him.
"That's it! That's it- You're fucking dead, Akaza- You're fucking dead! I'm gonna make sure he rips you apart like butchered meat-" Kaigaku ranted off as marched towards Akaza, Almost ready for a fight.
"Oh, You really wanna do this?" Akaza readied himself, Stepping forward as he was ready to throw another punch.
[F/N] on the other hand, Stiffened up.
[F/N]'s eyes finally lit up for a second, That monotone, Dull look started to shake off as she finally pushed herself up from the desk. Akaza whipped his head around to look at her, Eyes wide as he heard her sigh.
[F/N] shook her head, Casually placing the peach down onto the desk.
"Counter offer."
It happened in a single moment.
One second, [F/N] was sat down against the little library desk. The next, The sapphiric pin was unsheathed from her hair, Flicked like a butterfly knife against her neck.
"[F/N]!" Akaza yelled as he watched her pace back away from the two, Who looked at her in absolute shock as she held the firm nichirin silver against her jugular. Her eyes darted back and forth from them.
"[F/N]-sama!" Kaigaku gasped as the oncoming fight was broken up immediately at her actions, Blackened eyes darting towards her.
[F/N] just stood there soundlessly as her eyes dug into Kaigaku, Who stood frozen like a startled stag. It was almost challenging, Her stare. [F/N] holding the pin up like it was nothing to her at all.
She breathed.
"You're not telling Kokushibo anything, Alright? Not if you want this thing to draw some blood." [F/N] stated as she watched him stammer with a furrowed brow, Akaza beside her being prepared to lunge and disarm her at any moment.
Kaigaku gritted his teeth.
"Stop it, D-Do you not have any survival instincts?!" Kaigaku yelled, Shrill and loud as he watched her fiddle with the makeshift switchblade in her fingers, Ready to rush forward at any moment.
"Do you?" [F/N] asked, An almost bored look in her eyes as the silver of the hairpin pressed just a bit harder against the skin of her neck. "You wanna live right? My life is tied with yours, I die you die. So unless you wanna keep your head then I'd stay right there, Alright?"
"Y-You couldn't kill yourself with that thing!" Kaigaku yelled.
"Oh, No. Of course I couldn't," [F/N] agreed, Making him stare in horror/confusion as she spoke. "There's no way I could do any lethal damage with this little thing, Not while you two are here."
"But." [F/N] started. "Even if he doesn't believe me, Kokushibo will have no choice but to kill you off because I mean.. Isn't your job to make sure I stay alive and well? A few 'claw-shaped marks' on the neck should do the job.. So if you don't want your head rolling on the floor, I'd stay quiet."
Kaigaku's eyes were wide and wild, Staring in horror at the woman in front of him. Didn't she have any kind of survival instinct? None at all?! The thought of that was unfathomable to him, So much so that he could barely comprehend the sight in front of him.
There was no way he could loose his leverage here. Kaigaku's fingers shook as he watched her stare bore into him. But what could he do? He couldn't upset her, He couldn't attack her, He had to appease her- Otherwise-
Kaigaku's lip shook as he pried it open.
"..Fine." He spat out, Fingers curling into fists.
"Cool. Now get the hell out of here so me and him can have a private conversation." [F/N] ordered, Pointing towards the door in the exact same way that Akaza did only a few moments ago.
"..Yes, [F/N]-sama." Kaigaku gritted as he swiftly turned on his stiff heel, Breathing unnaturally steady as he marched out towards the door. [F/N] watched him go, A sort of tired look on her face as she watched him go.
SLAM!
And there it was, The crashing of the door that shook the frame of the room. It didn't bother her as she heard his angry footsteps walk out through the hallways, Calmly she stood there, Sighing in relief as she lowered the pin.
She wasn't out of the woods just yet however, As a hand gripped onto her shoulder and yanked her forward.
"The hell was that?! Are you fucking stupid?!" Akaza hissed as he pulled her close towards his face, So close that the saliva from his maw almost got on her face. [F/N] narrowing her eyes, Pushed him back.
"..For getting rid of the Kaigaku problem?" She said as paced back from him, Firmly removing his hand from her shoulder as she stared at him unshaken from the ordeal.
Akaza just stared at her, Looking at her in the eyes. The way she seemed so unbothered by it all, Looking at him like it was nothing.. It startled him. Akaza couldn't even sense how she felt from her aura, Though from the last time he supposed that was for the best.
But still, Akaza gritted his teeth as he tried to find something to say.
"Just- Just don't fucking do that shit, You hear..?!" Was all he could say, The thumping of his dead heart only beginning to calm. [F/N] shrugged.
"Okay, You haven't lost your ticket to number one yet, Akaza." [F/N] said as she sat back down onto her wooden chair, Picking up the peach and munching out a generous chunk of it.
Akaza just looked at her, Almost disgusted by her words. Pitiful he thought, The racing of his heart barely calmed. He watched as she picked up the book again, Going right from where she left off.
The way she acted, It would of been terrifying.
For a normal person, That is.
[F/N] on the other hand began to read again, Skimming through the lines as she singlehandedly clipped the pin right back into her hair. [F/N] yawned as flipped the page, Her placement in the book getting up to the part where this Akeno woman was getting hitched.
Though her eyes glimmered once she landed on a particular line, A memory resurfacing from within the depths of her mind as she read it. Brows furrowing, She read it again. The same result, [F/N]'s breath stopped.
'From this day forward, I am now known as Akeno Tsugikuni'
☆♡☆
"To start off.. I don't think this will work out, Not for me."
Gyomei's voice ruminated throughout the entire room, The confined walls keeping it firmly inside.
Shinobu, Mitsuri and Gyomei all sat around a table within the rented out room of the town's inn. The homely little set up being cosy to the three of them, A few futons laid out to the side with a small table and a few mats being the only furniture there.
Apart from the decorations that was, A few lanterns were lit up giving the room a flickering warm glow. The windows were locked shut, Doors locked and suspiciously eyed from time to time just in case anyone tried to come in.
The faint ember soaked into the skin, Warmth seeping in deep as they sat to converse around the table. The smell of the burning candles inside flooded into the nose, A beautiful scent that Shinobu breathed out.
"I must say that unfortunately.. I agree." She said with a little frown on her face, An almost contemplative look playing in her eyes as she spoke. "Do not take this the wrong way.. But you are a rather sore thumb when it comes to looks and demeanour, Himejima-san. I had hoped we would be able to scout around and skip straight to a fight.. However it's beginning to look a lot more complicated then I had imagined."
Shinobu said as she examined the rather bulky stature of the man in front of her, Him towering above the both of them by a wide margin with muscles large enough to wrestle a bear.
Though effective in combat, It had became all the more obvious as their discussion went on. Gyomei just was not suited for this kind of thing, For a stealth focused mission.
"Ah.. I'm sorry you came out all this way just to be sent back, Himejima-sama.. Are you sure there isn't any way you can come along? Not at all?" Mitsuri apologised as she bowed down slightly, A frown on her face.
Gyomei shook his head.
"No.. From the information we've gathered here today.. The best course of action is for me to stay out of this mission for now." Gyomei concluded with his hands still in prayer. "As much as I would like to go on.. It would not be right."
"Yes, From what we've heard it sounds like it would be tough to convince them to let us in." Shinobu started, Her brows knitted in thought. "I'll send out a crow to the slayers I have on my roster, Hopefully they'll be enough to make up for your absence."
"Aha.. When you said infiltration into the cult, I had assumed that you had meant finding what member was the demon then slaying them! Not playing pretend, Shinobu-chan!" Mitsuri joked, Smile reappearing on her face all the same.
"Yes.. I did too." She sighed as her hand slipped into the satchel attached to her ebony kimono, A thick wisteria-patterned pen quick to follow. "However it seems like we will be playing the long game. Not preferred, However doable."
"I'm fine with it!" Mitsuri chirped, Smiling as she grasped the hems of her candy pink kimono "Might even be a little interesting, You know! Being 'Umeko' was pretty fun!"
Gyomei nodded along to Mitsuri's words, His head turning towards her slightly as he listened on. Sighing, He would most likely need to head back home now, If not take an extended vacation just to stick around if backup was needed.
However Oyataka-sama would get suspicious, Especially if he takes it out of nowhere. Besides, He still had someone waiting at his estate, A rather important conversation needed to be said when Gyomei had nothing to say.
Though Gyomei's brows furrowed, Only for a second. His breath hitched, An idea coming to his head.
"..I shall request a contact of my own.. If that is alright with you, Kocho-san." Himejima spoke, The beads coiling his hands clacking together softly as he spoke. Shinobu looked up towards him as the tip of her pen pressed against the paper.
She hummed, A smile coming upon her face.
"I suppose if you trust this contact to keep this all confidential, Then I see no harm in it!" Shinobu answered, Nodding towards Gyomei before she began to write down upon the paper.
"Now I feel left out.. I don't really have anyone to ask for help..!" Mitsuri laughed as she scratched the back of her head awkwardly, Feeling a bit left out between the two of them together.
"No need to worry, Mitsuri-chan!" Shinobu laughed as she scribed into the paper. "With the people, We have more than en-"
CLANK!
Three heads jerked over to where the door was.
Shinobu shut her mouth immediately, The room going so silent that even the faint flicker of fire could be heard from within the lanterns. Outside, They could hear muffled movement. The stammer of footsteps, The faint cursing of a voice.
Shinobu's eyes darted back and forth from Gyomei to Mitsuri, Mitsuri meeting her wide-eyed stare with one of her own. Both of them shared a silent conversation, Gyomei sharing their quiet talk as they all froze up to listen to more.
Shinobu sat down her pen, Making sure it didn't even make a tap on the table. Silently she pushed herself up onto her feet, Both Gyomei and Mitsuri waiting in anticipation as she began to sneak towards the door.
Shinobu moved quietly, The floorboards that would usually creak did not dare when she moved so swiftly. Her eyes on the silver of the doorknob, The little turn lock below it.
Reaching the door, Her hands moved towards the turn lock. One on the doorknob, Another pinching the lock, Ready to turn.
Mitsuri breathed in, Her hand ready to reach for her sword.
Gyomei stiffened, His fingers subconsciously curling into fists.
"AH-!"
In one swift move, Shinobu switched the lock and wrenched the door wide open. Something thumped against the floor in a yelp, A human shaped girl lying dizzy on the floorboards, Having previously leaned up against the door.
She was mousy, Much younger than the three of them. With blonde hair tied up in pretty little ribbons and a kimono that seemed rather oversized on her.
Though what suprised them the most, Was that Mitsuri and Shinobu recognised her.
Mitsuri spoke first, Her voice terribly shocked.
"..Maika Heihachiro!"
