The Forest

You and your son are on Vacations, when all of a sudden the plane you are on lurches forward. Oxygen mask drop from the ceiling, you grab you son and wait for the end. When you come to a large half naked man is standing over you son, he is covered in what you can only image is blood. He picks up your son and carries him away and you slowly pass back. This is the intro it The Forest, and the start of a long horrifying adventure to save you son. That will have you questioning who the real enemy is the whole time.

The Forest has many of the standards of a good survival game, resource gathering, maintaining basic needs, hunting, fishing, basic and advanced crafting, good sized map to explore but the one thig that makes The Forest different is the enemies and there AI. When you first encounter the indigenous tribe they seem hostile, they jump and lunge as you while making crazy screams but this is where the first questions began to form because they way you approach this first encounter will determine a lot in the future. Choose to flee or just knock out the tribe members then they will be less aggressive towards you but if you kill then you will find out that they are very aggressive, smart and cannibals. The AI behind this is what makes The Forest so enjoyable for me trying to play it smart killing only when needed and building as quick as you can to hide so you can slowly explore the island and find you son.

As you start to get walls built and a safe place to sleep, strange noise can be heard from the forest. Not the now familiar sounds of the natives but somethings bigger, meaner, more horrific then what you have seen before. This is when you start to experience some of the things that make you fear the night. Where its on armsy swinging through the trees or  cowman charging after a virginia and her mutant babies, you will quickly realize that there is no safety on this island. And to those that choose to stay on the island will find out that these are just the beginning of the horrors that this island holds.

I strongly recommend this game to any one looking for a survival experience that will have you grinding resource by day and hiding for your life by night. I have play this game many times and always find myself enjoying the game and find new things to do. To any survival game fan you will find your self spending hours on a treehouse or an insane coaster track.

Where The Bees Make Honey

This game made me think many things in my time playing it from confused, happy, and sad. You start out as a woman in an office building, surrounded by cubicle that look as though there were cookie cutter designs pulled from a page. You find yourself dreaming of time past as the corporate world bears on top of you. You relive the dream of you childhood, when things felt so much more innocent and free. As the stories carry on you start to feel as thought you are a therapist listening to your patient, as the tales begin to show what this woman left in her youth, what she needs to find again.  As the tales take you through the season of her past you solve puzzle to unlock the next dream. These puzzle use a great mechanic that allows you to manipulate the environment to gain access to the honeycomb shape tokens, but this is not all the game has to offer. From puzzles, to running around as a rabbit to driving and RC car you get so much out of the small game. 

At first I wasn’t sure what to make of Where the Bees Make Honey, but the more I played the more I began to enjoy it. There are many thing I like about this game from the story, the adorable little girl you play as or the mixing of animation styles to create an environment that feel right out of a kid imagination. Where the Bees Make Honey is not prefect, there is one thing  I had an issues with that being the RC section. While this section is fun and you will enjoy driving around in a large area, you will find trying to gather the token to be a frustrating task all its own. 

Brian Wilson of Wakefield Interactive did an amazing job making a story that pulls you in and makes you want to see every ending. I strongly recommend this to any one look for a short, simple, but sweet story of the present and the life we miss living

Subnautica

There are many survival games out there all with many different aspects to them, Subnautica is no exception. From the beginning to the end you will be on a thrill ride that is surprising and scary at every turn. Unknown Worlds Entertainment did an amazing job creating a universe unlike any you have see before with cute little fish to enormous levitation class creatures. You are aboard The Aurora when it is hit by some mysterious blast on it journey through space, you find you way to the escape pod and this is where are game begins. Falling through space on your way to Planet 4546B little is give to you as you slowly find a way to survive on the water filled planet. You will begin find out about what happened on this planet and where you truly are as you explore further out from you escape pod and begin build a safe haven on these unknow lands. 

I feel in live with Subnautica as soon I first saw it, from the crafting to the open world there is nothing I don’t love. This game scared me to death at first with the deep water and creature coming out of the darkness, but as you begin to understand the ecosystem you will see this world as less foreign and more as home and when you finally find a way to escape what many have called a prison you will find it had to leave behind all that you have built and the friends you have made.

I recommend this game for anyone who loves open world survival games, this is one of my top three all time favorites games and lead me to many other survival games. It has super fun but challenging game play and a story that will have you searching the depths for more answers with ever one that’s questioned

When I first bought Stick it the Man I wasn’t sure what to think of it, the trailer made me think of a mix between Paper Mario and Voodoo Vince but when I started playing I realized it had a mind all it own. When you first start Stick It To The Man you will be both very confused and very intrigued by what you are seeing and hearing, and you will slowly find you self being the madness with the strange walls of this world. Zionk did an amazing job making a game that pulls you into the minds of the general mass of this weird place and there madness will have you feeling like going to see a therapist after your done playing. Ray is a hard working hard hat test being keep busy

by a fast pace industrial society, one day one your way home from work you are the victim of a bizarre accident and when you awaken you have a new friend a large pink spaghetti like arm stick out of his head. When a large corporate company find out about you, they frame you for a crime you didn’t comment and send everything they have to capture you to find the reason behind your new abilities. You and your new friends must find a way to free your self from the hands of corruption and finally get home to your girlfriend.

If you enjoy platformers, weird visuals, and a quirky story then I strongly recommend Stick It To The Man. This game will have you laughing the whole way through.

Aragami

If you grew up playing any of the Tenchu then you will love Aragami. you take control of an undead assassin with the ability to control the shadows. Lince Works did an amazing job combine stealth with supernatural ability to give you a story that you cant turn away from. you have the freedom to play how you want taking the passive route and not killing a soul to the vengeance route where you leave no man left alive. this game is not forgiving though with a one shot kill you have to be precise with you movements and shadow skills, using distraction and diversion to make you way through hostile lands. the shadow skills you gain along the way are incredible, from turning invisible, to summing shadow creature to had your enemy's disappear into the abyss. Aragami allows for you to coop the story with a friend and giving you even more abilities to use against the light, this is one game you will want to finish to find the reason behind your being and why you are the one to carry out Yamiko’s wishes.

Aragami continues with nightfall, a short expansion that tells the story before you take the role as Aragami. you take the role of either Hyo and Shinobu as they try and track down the “Alchemist”, in a story that lead you to the tales of undead shadow assassin Aragami.

I strongly recommend this game to any one who loves stealth games with a good story, very reminiscent of Tenchu

Little Nightmares

There are many word i could use to describe this game from horrifying, grotesque, unsettling, but most of all its enjoyable. From the first scene to the last you will be constantly bewildered at what you are seeing. As a tiny humanoid creature trying to escape from large large skin suit wear cannibals, you will find your self running and hiding at every turn. from the Janitor, the Twin Chefs, All of the guest and most all the the mystical Lady. The atmosphere of Little Nightmares will always have you on your toes expecting death around every corner.

If you love horror games then I strongly suggest this one, its story is not very long but challenging and mystery behind you and the guest will keep you search for answers around every corner.

Tarsier Studios did amazing job on his game and i cant wait to play the second one coming out soon.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch

I'm sure you have heard of this game but if you haven't let me introduce you to the wacky world of Octodad: Dadliest Catch. A fun filled story of an octopus and his family just enjoying a weekend out, but mix that with rage inducing controls and a crazy sushi chef out for you tentacles and you have one intense experience. Developers Young Horses are known for there quirkily can charming games, and Octodad delivers on every level. From trying to understand how this family even started to the history behind you and the chef, you will be questioning every turn of this enjoyable ride. The controls are what really shines in the Octodad series, the individual limb controls is know for how much rage it can bring and mixed with time limits and deadly creature you will find yourself wishing for the days of two buttons games. 

Don’t forget the added adventure of your first day and that take of your time at the doctor. This game is one you never forget.

Tyler Model 005

Quirky is the best way to describe this game, from the tiny robots to time travel this is nothing ordinary about this game. Reversed Interactive found a great way to mix the past and future together.  You find your self awaking in 1955 as a tiny robot named Tyler, who has forgotten why or how he got there and with the help with of his two friends Conrad and Titch you must unlock you memories and find out why you where created. you must explore the house of your creator by climb furniture and fighting bug to find the truth. with customizes from wings to claw and even a vr headset you can make Tyler feel like your own.

I really love the story of this game its short but super fun i only wish here was more to come, it would be so cool to go through all three story and see how each robot has found his truth.

Valley

I have played a lot of indie games over the years and few have grabbed me in the way that Valley did, from the amazing scenery to the incredibly fun gameplay i quickly became inthralled in the story of this mystic world. Blue Isle Studios does an amazing job combing the fast pace parkour action with combat system that makes you decide the fate of the world around you. using the L.E.A.F. (Leap Effortlessly though Air Functionality) suit you jump and glide your way through breathtaking forest, ruins and factories, all while trying to decipher the story behind the L.E.A.F. suit, the sprites and why you are there.

You will find yourself exploring the environment along the way, trying to pull in every bit of the vast beauty that Valley has to offer in it atmosphere. You start to feel connected to the forest as you unravel the mystery around you.

The Flame and The Flood quickly became one of my favorite games. The art style mixed with the amazing soundtrack by Chuck Ragan make the best atmosphere that just pulls you in and makes several hours feel like just a few minutes. I recommend that to any one looking for a fun survival game with a great atmosphere to just sit down, chill and play the stress away.
