A couple days ago I did the ancestor ritual for TDOR. Had a lovely little chat with the spirit of a trans man named Dillon. The main message that I took away from it, having asked for help to 'bring the storm to them,' was "Be strong—you're gonna need it—but you'll get your sunshine."

“Oh yeah, we mixed with lesbians. We always got along back then. All that division between the lesbian women and queens came after 1974 when Jane O'Leary and the radical lesbians came up. The radicals did not accept us or masculine-looking women who looked like men. And those lesbian women might not even have been trans. But we did get along famously in the early 60’s. I’ve been to many a dyke party… The lesbian community today has a lot to learn from the old ways of the lesbian community.”

Marsha P. Johnson
One of the leaders of the LGBT+ movement in America, she was known not only for her strength and bravery as an activist, but also for her boundless generosity. If you complimented an accessory of hers, she’d give it to you.

I did the trans ancestor rite ( @trans-rite )

Due to not having a candle (they're not allowed in the dorms) the candle and flame are made out of paper
In addition to reading the prayer for it I also prayed to Thanatos, Hermes, and Charon to aid the dead in their transition
The prayer:
Thanatos, god of death, son of nyx, I ask that you help guide the newly dead souls of the year to find peace
May they find rest and comfort
May they have what they need
And get where they're going
Hermes, shepherd god, who guides souls to Hades
I ask you to do the same
To guide the wandering souls
To comfort them and allow them to find peace
That their transition to the afterlife may be easy and they may get where they must go
Charon, ferryman, who takes souls across the river
I ask you to take any of these souls that may come to you
In exchange I have these coins
That their fairs may be paid
If it is not enough I ask you for your generosity
So that the dead may find their rest
After the prayers I sat next to the alter for a few minutes listening to music, I felt a presence that felt like a child (I have done no divination to confirm this) so I put an additional peice of candy on the alter

Is it ok to participate in the rite a day or two late?
Yes, that's fine. The mods brought the rite to a public TDOR event last night and then moved the altar to a coffeeshop where there will be a trans resilience open mic on Sunday - things will be happening for a few more days. Better late than not at all. 🤍

“Like racism and all forms of prejudice, bigotry against transgendered people is a deadly carcinogen. We are pitted against each other in order to keep us from seeing each other as allies. Genuine bonds of solidarity can be forged between people who respect each other’s differences and are willing to fight their enemy together. We are the class that does the work of the world, and can revolutionize it. We can win true liberation.”
