Literally, yes. But "(person's) ass" isn't a thing in German and "(verb) tut" is considered dialect / slang. In standard German you would say:
Sie können mich NICHT (davon) überzeugen dass Batman seine verfickten Steuern bezahlt
You CANNOT convince me batman's ass be paying his fucking taxes

Germans were really onto something when they invented the word Feierabend

Ohrwurm des Tages: Madsen feat. Lisa Who - So cool bist du nicht
Lyrics:
Ich stolper' über meinen Schatten,
I stumble over my shadow
Laufe gegen offene Türen.
Walk against open doors
Schlafe nachts mit wachen Augen,
Sleep with open eyes at night
Hör’ nicht auf dich zu verlieren.
Don’t stop losing you
Waren wir vielleicht zu feige,
Were we perhaps too cowardly
Oder war es echt vorbei?
Or was it really over?
Jeder flieht auf seine Weise,
Everyone flees in their way
Doch so einfach kann’s nicht sein.
But it can’t be that easy
You make your plans as if I didn’t exist
Du versteckst deine Tränen hinter’m abgeklärten Blick.
You hide your tears behind your detached gaze
But I can see it in your face
You’re not that cool, I know you that well
So cool bist du nicht.
You’re not that cool
Ich weiche deinen Blicken aus,
I avoid your gazes
Dann schaue ich dir hinterher.
Then I look at you (behind your back)
Sammel' all die Spuren auf,
Collect all of the clues
Fühlst du wirklich gar nichts mehr?
Do you really feel nothing anymore?
Ich hör' dich sagen, kühl und leise
I hear you say cool and quietly
"Mit uns ist es eh vorbei"
“It’s over with us anyway”
Jeder flieht auf seine Weise,
Everyone flees in their way
Doch so einfach kann’s nicht sein.
But it can’t be that easy
You make your plans as if I didn’t exist
Du versteckst deine Tränen hinter’m abgeklärten Blick.
You hide your tears behind your detached gaze
But I can see it in your face
You’re not that cool, I know you that well
So cool bist du nicht.
You’re not that cool
Mach dir nichts vor,
Don’t fool yourself
Ich kenne dich.
I know you
So cool bist du nicht.
You’re not that cool
I can’t hold you, but I don’t let you go
Ich weiß du musst gehen,
I know you have to go
Doch meine Angst ist viel zu groß.
But my fear is way too big
Ich kann dich noch sehen,
I can still see you
In deinem Gesicht.
In your face
So cool bist du nicht,
You’re not that cool
So gut kenne ich dich.
I know you that well
So cool bist du nicht,
You’re not that cool
So gut kenne ich dich.
I know you that well
So cool bist du nicht,
You’re not that cool
Mach dir nichts vor,
Don’t fool yourself
Ich kenne dich.
I know you
So cool bist du nicht.
You’re not that cool
So cool bist du nicht.
You’re not that cool
So cool bist du nicht.
You’re not that cool

Okay, the first batch is under the cut. I will get to the rest of your suggestions some time in the future, inshallah.*
(*This is a figure of speech. I'm not religious.)
“Der Himmel kennt keine Günstlinge” by Erich Maria Remarque
Haven’t read it, but I guess my hot take is that “character has a terminal disease and wants to live their life to the fullest before they die” isn’t a genre I enjoy.
“Abby Lynn - Verbannt ans Ende der Welt” by Rainer Maria Schröder
Haven’t read it, the plot sounds fine, no hot takes.
“Die Verwandlung” by Franz Kafka
I read it partially but it bored me so I didn’t finish it. I get why it’s a classic, and its themes are still applicable today, but I’ll leave this one for other people to discuss.
“Im Westen nichts Neues” by Erich Maria Remarque
Haven’t read it, but I hear it’s a powerful book.
“Der goldne Topf” by E. T. A. Hoffmann
Haven’t read it, but I have questions. What happened to the other men trapped in the bottles????? Do they just leave them there? WTF.
“Tschick” by Wolfgang Herrndorf
Haven’t read it, it’s probably fine.
“Die unendliche Geschichte” by Michael Ende
Haven’t read it. Hot take: I feel like this trope of a fantasy world that’s completely separate from our human world but can only be saved by human intervention is worth examining. At first glance it strikes me as a colonial idea repackaged as a power fantasy for children. But I already have my degree, so. If you’re studying literature, feel free to use this as a prompt for a paper.
Reblog this with a German book you read and if I read it I'll give you my hot take on it

My favorite characters in "Buddenbrooks" are Christian ("Ich muss jetzt nach Hause" - though that might be a movie quote, I'm not sure it's verbatim from the book) and Hanno ("Ich dachte, es käme nichts mehr").
Also, I am aware I said I was going to give my hot takes on books you all suggested, but I got more suggestions than anticipated and haven't worked my way through all of them yet.
