Gideon Mendel’s The Ward
Memories from the heart of the Aids crisis shows true love in a time of terrible tragedy.
These heartbreaking and incredibly moving images show the affection and love shown during the height of the Aids crisis. Photographer Gideon Mendel’s project The Ward began in 1993 when he spent a number of weeks on the Charles Bell wards in London’s Middlesex Hospital. All the patients on the ward were dying with the knowledge that there was no cure for the disease. During this time antiretroviral medications were not available and patients on the ward faced the prospect of an early death.

In so many words this article angers me due to misinformation, lack of accurate evidence to support false claims and overall disregard for the well being of transgender folk.
Beyond a surface level it seems deep rooted in anger itself, as the author vaguely stated that their family was “ripped” apart by someone transitioning. The language used stated that transgender people are a figment of our own imaginations, that we are merely subjective, not a valid part of society and the entire thing was written in a hateful manner.
This article doesn’t speak for transgender individuals, lacks scientific and medical evidence and current research findings. Quite to this persons dismay (and blatant ignorance) there IS evidence that proves gender identity is formed via development of the brain during gestation in the womb and progresses throughout childhood. Furthermore, it’s based on many factors such as and not limited to: how they interact with and perceive the world around them, their sense of self, chemicals introduced during chromosomal and hormonal development in the womb, along with many other factors.
Whoever wrote this is NOT a medical professional, DOES NOT have transgender peoples best interest at heart and I WILL NOT stand for it. Education is the best form of speaking up and speaking out.

Dude I feel this on a personal level
Way too many parents need to learn the difference between “a child being disrespectful” and “a human person expressing an opinion that differs from theirs”

Who the fuck talks to their child like that?
So I just tried to talk to my mom about going by he/him pronouns since she seemed to be in a good mood today, and she started shutting me down about it and just said “why don’t we just call you ‘it’?” and started calling me that. I told her I’m not an object, and she said “well you’re not a boy, either.” My dad asked what was going on and she said “it wants to go by different pronouns.” I’m so done.

That whole era of people are secretive, literally to the extreme. I didn’t find out I had a sister until I was 12; I literally asked if I had a sister 8+ times a year and was told no every year until the day I met her. My *male parental* lied about where we were really going and then told me the truth. We drove to her house and I literally didn’t believe him until he sat us in a room together. We in there looking like Chloe on her way to Disney world.
my family is so. fucking weird and resistant to talking about anything. when i was a small child i asked my mother why she had a lot of gifts and things where people called her by another name and she like. didn’t give me a straight answer? it was her Hebrew name. like that’s literally it. that’s all u had to say

‘50 students at Dade Middle School in Dallas had fathers who couldn’t attend the “breakfast with dads” event at school.
Fearing there would be a shortage of fathers, school leaders took to Facebook. Administrators pleaded with the community for 50 additional men to stand in their place.
“We were asked to help get some extra guys to stand in as surrogate fathers and mentors for the kids whose dad’s couldn’t make it or don’t have a dad in their life,” said Dade SBDM Board President, Donald Parish.
Standing proud on Thursday morning, nearly 600 arrived at the school. They were eager to enjoy the first meal of the day with a student that needed a positive male presence. Men from all walks of life turned out. Regardless of color or creed, Dallas represented well. Dads across the city came out (including men from local law enforcement, public officials and community organizers).
Each man exemplified why positive male presence is essential for children in Dallas, and the greater America. Some men taught students how to tie a tie. One auctioneer taught students how to auction like professionals. Other men provided general guidance and advice.
Teaching, leading, guiding and providing are the natural foundations of a real man.
“Words cannot describe the impact mentoring youth can have on both you and your mentee,”said Jason Rodriguez “Powerful to see a community of fellow men and fathers come together to wrap their arms around our young men. Thank you for having me out,” he added.
Looking to keep real men involved, the school is coordinating more events with the local community for weekly and monthly mentorship opportunities.
“This turnout is a testament to show [what happens] when a school and a community come together,” said Principal Tracie Washington.
This news is heartwarming and encouraging. In the later part of 2017, Former first lady, Michelle Obama asked men to step up. Breakfast is essential to executing daily task. Eating breakfast with dad, can be essential to the life of a child.’
