Coming Out

Veronica Shawn was sitting at their usual table in the back room of Chubbies with Cory and Topanga. She he was having trouble paying attention to yet another one of Cory’s many far-fetched ramblings but was failing miserably. Unfortunately for them, Topanga had noticed. 

“Shawn, you okay?” 

Shawn tried to hold back a flinch at the question. “I-I’m fine..”

By this point, Cory has stopped talking and looked up at him with a concerned look on his face.

“What’s going on?” Cory looks rapidly between Shawn and Topanga as if there was some big secret he missed out on. Shawn opens his mouth and tries to say that he’s fine but a stern look from Topanga has him snapping it shut. Shawn takes a shuddering breath, closing his eyes.

“I, um. I need to talk to you about something”. Shawn is purposefully avoiding their gaze. Cory sighs, “Shawnie, you can tell us anything, we got you”. 

As soon as Shawn hear we got you he breaks. He looks up at the ceiling holding back tears. He knows that if he doesn’t say it now she he never will.

Shawn takes a breath and blurts out, “I think I’m a girl”. At their stunned faces, he she panics and starts rambling. “I-its just, ever since the whole article thing Cory made us do, I-I I don’t think I hated being Veronica. I think I liked it too much. I want to be her all the time”. The I am her was left unspoken. 

Without saying anything, Cory pulls her into a tight hug, Topanga following soon after. Veronica breaks down into tears, sobbing in her friends arms, a symphony of I loves you and It’s going to be okay flooding around her. After her tears start to subside, Cory wipes away her tears and smiles sadly at her.

“We love you Veronica, no matter what”.
