Tomorrow I will walk in @aidswalkny to honor the memory of my uncle Louis Holliday, who died of AIDS-related complications in the late 80’s. I was young and never got to know what an amazing man he truly was, but i know that he loved me and my older brother very much. His partner also perished from the disease. Tomorrow I will also walk to honor and celebrate the lives of my friends who are HIV+. I love my chosen family and would do anything for all of them. I am out and I am proud. This is no secret. But for most of my young life I was neither. I am grateful that I had supportive parents who loved me unconditionally and that I had a relatively sheltered upbringing. I stand proudly today for all those who don’t feel that they have the courage or the support system to come out.
