Larry’s entire set was lit. The media crowd wasn’t laughing at many of his jokes because he took square aim at their complacency and their complicity for what passes as “news” in America.

The job of the media isn’t to get cozy and make friends with the rich and powerful, but that’s exactly what the WHDC has become. 

When corporate media outlets pull their punches and don’t bother to ask penetrating followup questions, because they’re worried about whether or not they’ve offended a politician who might not do their tv show again, that’s not journalism. 

If Larry Wilmore made the media elites present at the White House Correspondents Dinner feel uncomfortable for telling the truth wrapped in biting satire, then he’s doing a much better job than our “journalists” are.

Larry brought enough tea and lemonade for everybody and his entire set was fiyah - especially the Ted Cruz / Zodiac Killer routine - but for me the best part was his closing remarks.

Those who misgender Wendy Williams as punishment for her being a terrible person are transmisogynists; plain and simple. I do not give a fuck if a person is the foulest person on Earth. Misgendering cis people to degrade and strip them of their gender makes you violent towards actual trans persons. You think because the person isn’t actually trans that it means it isn’t hurting real trans people? If you have to use transmisogynistic “clapbacks” against a person you don’t like or is terrible to other people, that means you aren’t creative and don’t know how to criticize someone properly.

Woman, 50, died after being ‘deprived of water’ at Charleston County jail

A woman who was arrested at a hospital over the summer for failing to pay court fines died the next day because she was deprived of water at the Charleston County jail, her family’s attorneys said Wednesday.

Joyce Curnell, 50, of Edisto Island was found dead in the jail a day after being taken from Roper Hospital, where she had been treated for a stomach illness.

She spent the last 27 hours of her life behind bars. During that time she became too sick to eat or call for help, according to court documents filed this week. She vomited all night and couldn’t make it to a bathroom, so jailers gave her a trash bag. Some medical staffers ignored the jail officials’ requests to tend to her, the documents alleged.

Jail for unpaid fines is obscene enough. But no WATER? For the love of God and basic humanity this is an outrage. Nobody should be forced to pay thousands of dollars just receive life saving treatment, and we should not be killing people for not doing so.
