Bonked with the inspiration stick on my commute to work just now but i dont have time to do a full replay of the series to indulge this so im inflicting this on yall.

Consider: a dragon age worldstate where Warden Mahariel dies slaying the archdemon, Hawke romances Merrill and then gets left in the fade during the Here Lies the Abyss quest in da:i.

Merrill has lost so much, finds out about all the shit with Solas' ritual, demands that Varric let her help. She becomes Rook. Being vague cuz ik not all my followers have finished veilguard but 💀 rip to Solas when she finds out all the shit hes done...

She loses everything and everyone she cares about and in some roundabout way All of it can be tied back to Solas. I think she deserves to go on a god killing spree. I dont think shed go with the redemption ending even if she had the option.

The best advice i can give any creator is do it before you're good at it, do it BEFORE you're happy, do it while you suck, do it while you're doubting yourself and get stuck the fuck in, because waiting around to be "good enough" is a motherfucking trap of the highest degree. You'll get good along the way and better after ever project is complete. Remember, this is the greatest thing you've ever created, and then you'll do something else. You're only ever gonna get better, but not if you stand still.

Rook questions

23. What does Rook wear in the off hours? Do they like dressing up?

In the off hours she's wearing the Paragon of Leadership, not a picture of her but this is what it looks like

Quite formal, she is the leader after all and should probably try to keep up appearances. And it's functional and ready to go should shit hit the fan.

She doesn't actually like dressing up at all, and especially doesn't like tight clothing. Would much rather something looser and more comfortable. Her current outerwear is a veiljumpers armour, and it's marginally better. Feels less stuffy. These are actual pictures of her ✨️

32. How would a desire demon tempt Rook?

I had to look up what that was lol still new here

So if I'm getting it right, it's something she wants to the point of corruption or around that somewhere?

Power would be the most likely answer. She's a former Shadow Dragon she knows there's a lot of bad in the world, hell she's currently fighting to stop some of that still. Feeling more powerful and less powerless would be a hard deal to pass without at least a little thought. Could help a lot of people.

Rook questions!

23. What does Rook wear in the off hours? Do they like dressing up?

Lanas has kept repairing the same torn up old sweater for over a decade. If hes not in armor, hes wearing that. Its a comfort item at this point, especially now that its been repeatedly patched and stitched back together with love by his found family, clan Lavellan. He hates dressing up, definitely the type to live in his pjs whenever possible. Sweater, comfy pants, hair down, no jewelry except his wedding ring. He has a bad habit of leaving his jewelry out way too long, and has had to re-stretch his lobes to fit his favorite jewelry (the obsidian plugs i usually draw him in)  more than once.

Fen has a taste for the finer things. His daily outerwear is practical and unassuming, but with leisure wear he allows himself to be self indulgent. Robes and dressing gowns. Velvet, silk, any fabric with a smooth texture hes a fan of. He loves dressing up! Hes done enough traveling and met enough people that hes collected a wide assortment of jewelry and clothing from all over thedas. He might be a veil jumper, but from looks alone, a stranger would assume hes mourn watch from all the gold and embroidery.

Lanas: Phthalo green, Datura wrightii, maned wolf, cloudburst.

Fen: Juniper green, Tagetes lucida, condor, dry lightning.

Rook questions!

20. Whats it like to see them smile? Their laugh?

Lanas is, despite everything hes been through, very emotional. He often tries to tone down his expressions out of habit (got very used to repressing things when he was younger), but his smile is something he never figured out how to hide. Previously a rare sight, his smile is now a near permanent fixture. Hes got a downturned smile, and a slight underbite that hes a little self conscious of. His laugh is higher pitched than his voice, louder, and more raspy. Prone to accidentally snorting when hes really losing it, which makes him laugh even harder.

If we wanna interpret this question in a funky symbolic poetic vibes way, his smile/laugh is like your first snowball fight.

Fen: is pretty reserved, but its not hard to make him smile and laugh. Him being quiet doesnt mean hes serious. He loves pranks and shitty puns, and takes any excuse he can get to lighten the mood. His smile is bright and shameless, with dimpled cheeks and usually showing off his crooked teeth. Hes got one canine that sticks out enough to catch on his lip when the smile fades. His laugh is, in a word, pretty. Low tones, a bell-like quality. Its musical. Until you really get him going, then its just wheezing (which is probably funnier than the joke you told to make him sound like that)

If we wanna interpret this question in a funky symbolic poetic vibes way, his smile/laugh is like watching the sunrise with a friend after a sleepover.

41. Whats on their nightstand?

Lanas: Too many potions (medications for insomnia and migraines, lyrium, anti-nausea, etc. He keeps the apothecary in business), two books (the one hes reading now and the next on his list just in case he finishes the first one), a dream journal that he keeps meticulous notes in, a dish to put his jewelry in, a magical ward keeping the drawer locked so nobody can snoop through his things (we know whats in the drawer buddy 👀, you keep everything else out in the open. you dont even close your journal)

Fen: A cup of tea (cold now, he forgot to drink it), dark chocolate (midnight snack), dried elfroot, ashtray, sketchbook kept closed and magically locked, several charcoal pencils (half are broken) and the knife he uses to sharpen them (and never cleans, shavings everywhere), tin of watercolors, cup with brushes and dried paint in it, a necklace (has some kind of enchantment that he wont talk about, he never wears it anyway), there is no nightstand its just a bunch of stuff on a stack of books he kept forgetting to reshelf.

Matt Rhodes posted the final concept art of the Black Codex. But the most interesting thing is the notes that go with it.

The false gods decide to release the full power of the titan souls, which have become twisted with madness in their captivity. Solas tries to stop them.

Unable to stop them, Solas instead creates a Veil between the physical world and the magical. He binds the Veil to the blood of the false gods, turning them into the locks on their own prison.

Early humans discover the ruins of the elven empire. Using knowledge scavenged from the ruins, Tevinter spreads across Thedas as a crude copy of the elven empire.

From their prison in the Veil, the spirits of the titans lure power-hungry Tevinter magisters into the Fade to release them. Instead of a city of gold, they find a Black City. The first Blight is released.

So the magisters were originally lured to the Black City not by the evanuris, but by the spirits of titans?

Because this version is different from what Solas told Rook.

The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.

Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.

So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.

Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

HEY! Clip Studio Paint is on sale until the 24th of June!

I switched to CSP years ago (and can you believe it, that switch involved Adobe being terribad??) and I haven't looked back.

Not trying to turn this into an ad or anything. I just really like this program. So, I'm putting some of my other thoughts on it + general info about the different options below the cut.

Clip Studio Paint EX is what I use for all of my digital art now and I highly recommend checking in out if you've been considering it.

There is a subscription option but it's not a requirement and you're not like permanently locked into a subscription (vs have the option for a perpetual license) if you want to try it out that way.

You can go from a subscription version to a perpetual license if you decide you'd like to do that.

The perpetual license means you purchase a license for that version. When a new version comes out, you're not locked out of the program until you upgrade or anything. You can keep with that one forever if you want.

If you later decide that you want to upgrade to a newer version, its just that — you buy the upgrade. You don't have to buy it again at full price, it's instead a comparable reasonable fee.

There's even a easy path to go from the Pro version to the EX version, if you decide you want to do that. They're both solid. There's a page on the site that outlines the differences.
