I’m all for calling out abuse in the games industry but when you spend time during your awards show to do non specific call outs while your show is stacked with riot games and amazon ads it makes this shit feel more hollow than it already does. That and the other vague social advocacy shit just makes the show appear just as soulless as every other similar show.

Oh baybee resident evil 4 VR! Too bad they fucked it!
It is utterly nonsensical to me that facebook is leaving all of its pcvr users out in the rain to make games exclusive to their mobile platform. I can't even fathom a financial reason why this makes sense. The quest 2 and the rift s are very similar and we know they have the money to fund having more than one version. Not only that but this shit is exclusive to their store so it's not like it being on a pc platform means that it would be on competing storefronts. More irritating however are all the mother fuckers going to bat for facebook. There are 2 main arguments I've seen and both of them are completely laughable.
"Quest 2 out sold all the pcvr sets so they are going where the money is" This is a correct statement, but not a real justification of any kind. Making this work on pc would not be expensive especially for fucking facebook. Outside of that this argument is made purely from some arm chair corporate simp perspective cause it's still anti consumer for them to do this money be damned.
"playstation vr has exclusives so this is normal" This isn't a good comparison. What's happening here is more like if sony put out the ps4 pro and then started making games exclusive to that platform. The reason that games are gonna be exclusive to the psvr2 eventually is cause the original headset was outdated when it came out and wasn't even suited for most pcvr games of its day. Not to mention in the case of pcvr the headset is powered by a completely upgradable source. The quest 2 isn't like a new console where the previous headset can't do what it can as far as software goes.
I just wish people were able to criticize things like this without the corporate boot chuggers coming in and citing financial nonsense as if people don't already know it's about the money. You aren't in financials at facebook and they don't care about you so shut the fuck up and quit carrying water for them.

Yo why the hell is the playstation cloud save system worse than xbox? On xbox my shit is just there but for playstation I gotta wonder if the game just didn't do it on its own. Lost a few saves in the upgrade cause I ran out of time to slowly upload stuff.

Don't invite the fed into video games you morons
You may think upon reading that sentence that I must be some sort of crazy person cause all gamers ever do is talk shit about the government attempting to regulate games, and you would be right, except on one issue where this goes out the window for some reason.
Loot Boxes
(note before I go on that I don't like loot boxes either)
All I ever see from big influencers on the subject is sucking the dick of the UK for regulating them and praying that such legislation would make it over here to the states. You always see them using the exact same "think of the children" argument that they themselves lambast the establishment for using when it comes to things like banning violent videogames. You can really tell that they know this is a contradiction too cause they wont just flat out say it until they let it eek out later on when they've made their fifteen-millionth video about it. It makes sense when you get down to it cause their incessant milking of the subject for views is what caused these governments to notice in the first place so it only makes sense that they would then pivot to nanny state advocacy to solve their problem.
Honestly when you get down to it the "think of the children" argument doesn't even make practical sense here cause it is brain dead easy to prevent children from being able to buy loot boxes. You hear about the notion that a kid could rack up credit card debt without their parents knowledge, but honestly that L is fully on the parents. If you as a parent have any notion that your kid might use your card without your knowledge don't fucking leave the information on the console where it can be easily used. That is literally all you need to do. If the situation is really so bad that doing that wouldn't be enough you have a way bigger problem that you can't reasonably expect the government to regulate away. Sure go ahead and call out companies for being shitty and probably targeting children in their monetization strategies, but the ten year old trying to buy shit in their game isn't going to be able to without their parents in all likelihood.
The other thing I usually see get brought up is the whole oh we need to regulate it like gambling cause of people with addictions or whatever. For one you can't really paint this with the same brush as gambling, but more importantly why are we so concerned with legislating away people's ability to make poor decisions? These people need help for their addiction so we should be pushing for awareness of that highlighting the shitty way companies exploit them for profit to try and get them help and in return decrease the profit margins for those practices. Again it's another one of these things that's clearly being said by people who get all their info from news headlines without thinking of the practical reality of how you could help solve these issues.
At the end of the day people really need to look at what they're asking for. Video games have been fairly successful in batting away attempts at government overreach and regulation, and now you have people in the community who are generally reasonable holding the door open for the feds to come in and fuck everything down the line. You may think that's an overreaction, but go look at all the bullshit that the government does that starts with one (supposedly) reasonable regulation that conveniently holds the door open for them to come fuck your ass raw in a few years (spoilers it's basically all of them).
If you ask me, what we should be doing about loot boxes is singling out the parts that are actually an issue and showing people what the better choice is. You're gonna have a hard time with the addicts, but that's life you can't make them get help if they don't want to. Also people buying them because they want to is not a real problem and people acting like it's a reasonable thing to try and get the fed to stop people doing a thing you don't like is clownery of the highest order. All I want is for people to be able to solve the problems in their own communities instead of running to daddy government to """""solve""""" the problem for them. I can only hope people realize the better path before it's too late.

Thoughts on Scarlet Nexus
Game's pretty good, but to have some semblance of structure I guess I'll start with what I don't like. A minor gripe I have is that the game clearly isn't really optimized for next gen systems and it debuted at Microsofts series x stream. It looks nice and runs well, but it takes like 5 seconds to save and pop in is everywhere in the city areas. Textures can get pretty gnarly up close too. There are also weird invisible walls in some spots where you could easily jump over a fence or whatever and the game will make you go through the opening.
I'm just gonna go ahead and separate combat. The combat I enjoy for the most part, but it isn't quite there in some ways. The dodge could use some work and some enemy hit boxes aren't clear. I get they don't want the main character to be so powerful that he doesn't have to use his allies, but even with all the combo upgrades it still doesn't really have enough variety. The deepest it goes is interrupting your light combo with a heavy so that you can do another of the same light combo. I really like what they did with the party where you can access damn near everyone's powers all the time so you don't have to constantly swap out party members. I think it makes the combat way more interesting. Controlling 8 different powers is surprisingly intuitive despite it not looking that way when you see the controls. I do like the psychokinesis ability despite it feeling a tad on the weaker side even with some of the more powerful moves. The brain field thing was fine but I found it so uncontrollable that it'd be more liable to get me killed than help me especially on the human bosses. On that note the human bosses aren't super great in my opinion. Instead of them just tanking a million hits like the monsters they dodge your attacks. Which is fine on paper, but I found in most of those fights that it boiled down to me waiting for an opening, getting 2 or 3 hits in, then running around waiting for that again. I guess on a note tangential to combat the enemy variety in the game isn't bad, but they don't rotate them much. There are fights near the end of the game where it will spawn like 4 waves of nearly identical enemies when they have others they could choose from. And some of the enemies can and will blast you for most of your health from off screen and sometimes they're the only enemies in the room so you can't just focus it down. The enemies also have really bad names. Overall though combat is fun, which is good, cause the other half of the game is less good.
The story in this game is presented a in very nice looking clean visual novel style. It's mostly fancy borders and sliding portraits that hide the fact you're just staring at still images, but it works. And the proper cutscenes look very good and are animated super well. The characters are pretty likeable for the most part and none of them are throwaway losers. The only character I didn't like was generic higher than mighty tsundere dude who just acts like a dick most of the time with minimal display of his other traits. Unfortunately the story these characters are in is not good enough for it taking up probably half of the game time. It starts pretty interesting with government conspiracies and revolutions, but pretty quickly becomes a fairly generic anime save the world escalation. Not to say the world is generic cause it's pretty cool with how it's presented and some of the visuals. There are several cases where something will happen or someone will gain an ability from out of nowhere and if they explain it at all it's just handwaving it away. There's also this strange disconnect where for a large portion of the game you are enemies with half of the cast, yet you can still hang out with them and the game will acknowledge that it's weird but your character will just immediately act like everything is fine. I wouldn't mind the story being just fine if it didn't frequently sit you down for long periods of time and shove it in your face. It feels like they were going for the method of just having cool shit happen and relying on the coolness to distract from it making no sense except the things that are happening aren't cool enough.
Side tidbit the side quests seem mostly useless. Granted I didn't do many of them but the reason I didn't was cause all the early game ones were just go get this item kill this enemy in this way type stuff. Even though I basically skipped all of them I had the best weapons and materials enough for basically whatever I wanted.
Despite all my bitching I still liked the game and I hope they make another one so they can iron out some of these issues and make it an even better game.
