ORGANIZING YOUR GRIMOIRE (tips from a neat freak virgo)

okay i’ve been meaning to make this post for awhile bc i’ve seen some great ideas for grimoire organization, and i want to share the way i’m keeping track of all the pages in mine without worrying about the order in which i write them down

the trick: indexing. this is a technique lifted straight from bullet journaling. in fact, my grimoire has started to take form inside my regular bullet journal, so i’ve added a separate index page specifically for my witch-relevant content. this is cool because it’s like my grimoire is kind of hidden within a mundane exterior 👍🏻

here are the two steps:

1. number your pages as you go, and 2. add each page to your index as you write it

you could go further than this and add indices specifically for each type of content, like an index just for spell pages, an index for tarot pages, etc. - my preference is just to label each entry with a category so that they’re easier to skim. you can also add other signifiers like my asterisks to mark my own original content vs. information gathered from other sources. color coding would also work well here! and when you fill it up, you can either keep a couple pages at one place reserved for indexing, OR just start a new one on the next available page and enter it as the last line of your old index.

the reason i like this system is that it allows me to work in a fixed notebook where i can’t add pages (i really love notebooks), but frees me from my perfectionist fear of having information end up disorganized. it doesn’t bother me if pages on the same topic end up in different parts of the notebook because my index keeps them organized! i’m less likely to put off adding info until i know where it ‘should go’ so ultimately i end up being more productive, too.

i’m sure there are others who have similar setups but i thought some people might find this helpful 💕

#inktober Day 7 • Even though I am technically a day late, I’m on such a weird sleep schedule at this point that I can’t even tell what constitutes a day anymore 😴 I spent almost the entire day yesterday at the emergency vet and then finally went to bed around 8PM! And back up at 4:30 to relieve my partner from rat-sitting duty. Barely getting any moments right now to work but sketching is something I can do on and off while Hermione sleeps. ••• Anyway, I enjoyed my rat skull drawing from a few days ago so much that I tried another in the same theme - this time, a stoat (weasel) skull. Fun to compare the differences between the two skulls! taurus, virgo and capricorn are so underappreciated like they are stable, down to earth and will listen to you and tell you the truth without unnecessarily hurting you??? and as lovers and friends (especially if they have earth venus too) they are so supportive and gentle i cry just thinking about it. They are also like the ultimate Loyal™ friend???

They are not boring just bc they want structure and real shit in their lives you know, they are the ppl that stick with you through thick and thin and help you remember who you are in tough times i love them. They got their flaws but they are some of the most real people out there.

#inktober Day 5 • Oof, this one has been especially emotional for me today! I have been sketching rat skulls lately after my oldest rat & soulmate Willow passed away earlier this year. A friend of a friend is cleaning up her bones to return to us, and I’ve been drawing skulls from photo refs in the meantime as a means of soothing the ache of missing her; it’s hard, being in this state of limbo before I can really put her to rest. Then, in a touch of unpleasant irony, one of our other rats Hermione was at the vet for surgery today to remove a mammary tumor - which should have been easy! we’ve done this a half dozen times before! - and ended up having to be anesthetized THREE TIMES because she kept yanking her stitches back out!! ✨🎃💎✨ • Sometimes you just feel the inspiration and everything flows! I pumped out this drawing from start to finish over the last 24 hrs and it felt amazing. For my birthday my mom gifted me a new #illosketchbook and I wanted to break the first page anxiety before I start #inktober this year. I’m really excited to challenge myself for the first time to really improve my commitment and skill with drawing. ••• Inking has always been one of my favorite activities. Ironically, against my love of bright colors and saturated palettes, I have this other love of sharp clean lines and black ink.
