knot magick idea: "friendship" bracelets!!
you know, like those embroidery floss ones from when we were kids? the ones you can make in all kinds of patterns/styles?
i impulse bought some embroidery floss because i find it really relaxing to make bracelets and stuff when i'm watching tv. not only is it relaxing, but i've just realized it's a great, low-effort, mundane-looking way to incorporate knot magick into daily life.
embroidery floss comes in a huge variety of colors, so of course you can incorporate color magick to your heart's content!
you can also add a chant or mantra, out loud or just in your head, for each knot. or, a mantra or longer affirmation of some sort for each row/color section! you can also tie in beads, feathers, seashells, charms, etc. for different purposes!
you can give them to friends and loved ones, or use them as deity/spirit offerings, or just make different corresponding ones to wear yourself! the ideas are endless. i can't believe i didnt figure this out sooner.
get out there and make some fun bracelets, if not for the witchcraft, then just for the nostalgia! it's so therapeutic 💕

Indoor plants for the space-conscious witch

Let’s face it, some of us witches just don’t have the time/space for having a fully flourishing witchy garden, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t utilise the full benefits of nature’s plants in our own spaces! Here is a list of house friendly plants that can enhance your personal space in various ways:
Geranium: These plants can provide luck and good fortune in various different ways, depending on the colour of your flower. Choose red geraniums for vitality and invigoration, pink for love, or white for fertility.
Rose: These flowers are notorious for their properties of love and friendship, and it is possible to grow miniature roses inside, or perhaps choose another Venus-ruled plant such as the maidenhair fern for the same benefits.
Impatiens: This plant, ruled by Mercury and often known as ‘busy lizzie’, does exactly what you would think it would; encourages movement and travel in your life.
Aspidistra: Ruled by Saturn, this plant encourages tranquility and homeliness, calming fears and dispelling nightmares. Another plant which achieves the same nightmare-warding effects is the cyclamen, often used throughout history to protect against evil spirits.
Thistle: A vase of thistles is thought to restore strength and vitality to those who are feeling down or depressed and have been used to ward off thieves.
Yellow plants: Arrange two yellow or orange plants, full of the Sun’s vibrant energy in front of two mirrors so they reflect the energy into your room, dispelling evil and encouraging good. This simple flower magic can be performed with any planetary influences depending on your intention.

🌊On Working with Merfolk🌊
🌊Here I’m going to explain a little bit about Mermaid Magic, or Merfolk magic in general, and give some tips on working with Merfolk based on my experience with them 🌊
🌊What does Merfolk mean?
Merfolk is a wide variety of creatures, human like or not, and basically means any type of magical/elemental living on water, be it saltwater or freshwater. I use the word Merfolk to refer to them as a whole. You can see some types of Merfolk in my Merfolk Masterpost here.
🌊Why Mermaid Magic? Or Merfolk magic?
Mermaid Magic is a specific type of craft where the witch or practitioner invokes mermaids/sirens and other similar merfolk to work with them. The accurate term (from my perspective) would be Merfolk magic, which is more open and gives the practitioner more options, but Mermaid Magic, as a term, is more common.
While working with Merfolk might be dangerous, specially emotionally and even to your health, if done correctly it brings a lot of positive results, and it gets really rare to have a bad experience if you follow a few rules since the start. The number and nature of the rules may vary from practitioner to practitioner, but here are mine:
❗Don’t call upon what you cannot control or banish correctly.
❗Always know what/who you’re working with, do your research, specially about stories and the culture the creature comes from, and prepare everything the best you can.
❗Be prepared for everything to go south. Have a backup plan.
❗Be respectful. Extremely respectful. But also let them know you are worth their respect too. Show them with actions, not words. As with other Faefolk, words are not most valued for Merfolk and will judge you more based on your acts than your words.
❗ Deals are sealed with offerings. But don’t give thanks until the task has been done accordingly.
❗ Never give your real name to the fae, unless you’re strong enough to face the consequences (years of experience and lots of knowledge on how to do so) OR you have someone behind you guarding your back (like a pod, I’m gonna talk about that in a sec)
🌊How do I work with Merfolk?
Well, that’s up to you. Personally, I prepare myself mentally for the contact, meaning cleaning and cleansing myself and my working space, then I prepare offerings according to the creature and the culture/backstory it comes from, and only then call the creature, give offerings as exchange for a task, discuss the price if it’s too high or too low (offerings, works and such), and I don’t give thanks until it has been done correctly. Giving thanks would be the “ok, you can go now” signal. If you thank them before, they’ll probably take the offerings and do nothing else than that. Which would mean another call, more new offerings, you get my point. If you’re not correctly prepared, the offerings are wrong in some way, or the creature has not been contacted respectfully, it has more chances of failing.
If the contact is done near the place where the creature inhabits, be even more careful. Invoking a creature from home (your working place, your energies) it’s not the same as doing it in their home. You certainly don’t hold more control of the situation than them there. Again, if you’re going to do the work outside your “mermaid cave/grotto”(again, more on that later), be sure to have someone (the more, the better) backing you up and making sure your point is heard. Like a translator? Or a representative. Kinda. But they still work with you… At some point. Be careful with who you take to what encounter. You never know who plays what card.
🌊 Then, what is a pod?
A pod, by general means, is a group of Merfolk that lives or works together. Or both. Ussually both. For example, is usual to find sirens in the Mediterranean Sea in pods of 2 to 6, or more than 10 individuals in some situations, working together. In the last decades, merfolk has had to confront rough times. Mostly due to contamination and their environment decaying, this hurting them too. A lot. Creatures that where solitary before or used to living in small groups are now working in bigger their numbers on purpose to defend themselves better, to protect their resources (spiritually and physically speaking) and they’re taking care of the youngers even more than before, which let me tell you, is a lot.
This has led to new situations like, for example, humans being able to work with a pod, or various pods, for mutual benefits. The human can work on their spirituality, get stuff done and such, and the Merfolk gets offerings, resources, and sometimes even an earthly ally.
For Mermaid/Merfolk witches this means we can search or form a pod of Merfolk willing to help and sometimes, under special circumstances, accept you as one of them, if you work and act as one indeed. Giving offerings really often, doing activism, anything that may help keep the waters clean and healthy, and the Merfolk happy, is pretty much a way to maintain a good relationship with your pod.
How you choose your pod is up to you. You can choose or be chosen, the second one being the more common one, as far as I know. At this point, stuff works much like the Fae courts. Let’s say pods are courts, and they do have a hierarchical organization, most of the time (not so true for sirens and alike), some pods are going to be ok with you trying to get involved, maybe even willing to help you, others may not care, others will be against it.
This far, the northern part of my Ocean seems to be more closed. For some reason, probably because of how badly human interaction has hurt those environments. The Merfolk around me here in the south seem very open and have helped me a lot.
Once you get a pod, try contacting them often, or connecting with them (in my opinion, doing both togheter is the best, and more natural thing). It’s… Not exactly the same. I’ll talk about that in a sec.
The positive and negative aspects of a pod are, again, similar to those of a court in fae workings. Once you align with a court, you do get some back up and some help/guidance, but you’re also stating in which of many “sides” of the things you’re standing, which means there are also going to be some (not much, this far) Merfolk/Fae against you. Like a Winter-Summer courts thing. FYI, this far I’m more aligned with winter/autumn and their Merfolk counterparts, so… Yeah. That means that since I can remember the heat makes me go sick, I need to drink a lot of water all the time, and somehow salty stuff is my thing. Basically you’re going to bond with whichever pod/court you share most characteristics with.
You can ask your pod for guidance on your craft, for inspiration when you need it, for healings, for really anything. Since you’re bonded to them, they’re going to be able to help you in practically anything you need. Just don’t force them, don’t ask for things that you know are not possible for them, and remember to give offerings as payment and support.
🌊So… It’s Contacting or Connecting?
Contacting Merfolk is the usual work: invoke, ask, give thanks. That’s the end of it. Connecting with Merfolk means you have made a ritual or practice of some sort that connects you to them perpetually. Much like a patron or matron deity relationship, you would then be some kind of “little witchy human thing I have to take care of” for them. How they act about it, or if they even accept your proposal or not, depends a lot on the Merfolk you’re working with. Some may deny, some may accept and let you figure out stuff in your own, giving you some glimpses of what’s the right thing to do, some may accept and actually guide you and help you more. You’re probably going to need to let them know if you do need guidance, and again, some may help and some may not. Remember to be respectful to them at all points and always give thanks after the task/help is done, that way, they’ll know when they’re doing it the right way, and when you would’ve liked more or less done.
🌊How to work with a pod?
First thing is mostly contacting Merfolk. The types you feel more drawn/connected to naturally, those of your own culture or those you’re connected to energetically. For me, that means saltwater mermaids and freshwater nymphs. That’s where I first started, with spirits of rivers, lakes and lagoons. They’re by far the sweetest you’re going to encounter, and also one of the strongest, as they are tied to their water source completely. Meaning: physical counterpart, stronger range of power. No physical connection to this world, weaker range for acting. Then, you can start with the Sea and the Moon, another two “spirits” or entities, or deities, as I see them, that are also extremely strong and extremely sweet. The ocean can be a little bit more hard to connect to, specially if you’re landlocked, but there are still a lot of ways to do so. Now even more thanks to technology.
After slowly “leveling up” on what entities and Merfolk you work with, you’ll see how your craft evolves, how you evolve with it, and eventually Merfolk will start to reach to you on their own. After connecting to a pod, the rest comes naturally. It’s like having a spirit guide? But… many… And they’re water elementals. Mine mostly show as sudden intuition (I know something I wouldn’t normally know, I hear or feel something) and lately I’ve been having some kind of premonitory dreams? That have helped me avoid some really bad situations. Or helped me solve nasty situations. Or both.
How your pod will manifest to you also depends on the type of Merfolk they’re and… Yeah. There are a lot of things that may change it. Like your innate capacities for some workings. If you’re better at divination than clairvoyance, your pod may communicate with you through your tarot cards (cards falling for extra meanings or intuitive reading of the cards, like a second thought on your mind)
🌊 I think that covers up the basics pretty good. I’m going to do a more detailed post on offerings and tips for different types of merfolk and correspondences and such, but for now, you can guide yourself with my Crystals, Creatures and Herbs posts, and the Merfolk Masterpost cited before. My ask is also always open for questions or anything related to the craft! Hope that helps!!!🌊

🌊🐚Contacting Merfolk🐚🌊
First of all, read this post. You’re still here? great! then let’s continue!
🌊Altar Set up🌊
In your sea magic altar ⬆⬆⬆, set apart a small area for this ritual. Make sure the circuit you created can be easily opened and closed. Purificate yet again the enclosed area, and then set up your small altar for the merfolk species you wish to attract!
I recommend always, no matter what type of merfolk it is, following this basic scheme:
_____( 🔥 )____(Water bowl)_____( 🔥 )___
_____________(.Protection.*)____________
_____( 🔥 )_____(Offerings)______( 🔥 )___
Basically creating a circle of candles around you (fire counteracts water, it gives you strength in case anything goes bad and limitates their power over you) and some sort of barrier or protection, a protective sigil, crystal grid, etc, that keeps them from getting the offerings or any type of energy if they have ill intent, so they cannot feed of any more energy, and thus, limitating further their power over you. Which type of water to use and what offerings is right here below:
🌊General offerings🌊
All Merfolk can be easily contacted with a description of them, ussually one speaking about things they are proud of, or well known for, and water from the place they reside, if not the exact place, from one really similar, that will carry similar energies: Saltwater from near a rocky cliff for sirens, for example.
Mirrors, sea glass, particularly beautiful seashells and jewelry are also common offering. Some crystals are said to invoke Merfolk’s protection on the sea, like Aquamarine, quartz, aventurine and sapphire, but any translucent blue/green crystal will do, (depending on what type of Merfolk you wish to invoke, I ussually use green or yellow for freshwater and turquoise and blue colors for saltwater).
🌊Please be aware that different Merfolk from different cultures will appreciate different offerings. I always recommend researching first.🌊
🌊Here’s a short list for 5 types of them, the most commonly approached in different cultures, and some offering ideas so you get how to make your own offerings list too!🌊
🌊 Water spirits, like the Ocean can be easily called upon by simply using water from there. Saltwater for the Ocean, a bottle of water from the body of water’s conciousness you want to call forth works perfectly too. I always say this, but here it goes anyways: cleaning the beach is the best offering for the Ocean. Singing, dancing or swimming on the water is great too. Be careful with who hears/sees you tho, those activities tend to attract other merfolk’s attention and is not necessarily desired attention, believe me.
🌊 Selkies: Saltwater. White and grey fur, but not anything resembling seal fur preferably. Fake fur is actually a good idea too because you’re helping other species by using fake instead of real fur. Hair combs, mirrors, fruits, vegetables, small sea themed trinkets, like those small bottles with ships inside? great. Some like metals like silver rings or jewelry, while others are closer to fae and thus metal drives them away, so just choose whatever feels better for you. Flashy seashells like abalone or simply any bright colored seashell will do the trick too. Crystals like selenite and Moonstone.
🌊 Cecaelias: Items like little fish or sea creatures figurines, books you like, storm water, Moon water, Salt water, color changing mood rings (they love these), and I don’t know if it is a thing outside of Argentina, but we have little statues/figurines that change color according to the temperature/weather around them, and cecaelias love those too, specially if they’re shaped like a cephalopod. Can’t blame them, those are adorable. You can call upon them, and offer them actions like bibliomancy, any divination session actually, working in your grimoire, studying, for academic success, for memory spells and for glamours of any type.
🌊 Chinese mermaids (lingyu, renyu, chiru, diren, huren): Don’t give them pearls. I can’t stress this enough, but while pearls are common offerings in the west, in the east, they have a different meaning, well, a lot of different meanings actually, but we’ll cover the one related to Merfolk here, not the one related specifically to dragons and fish lol. Chinese merfolk are known for being pearlweepers, pearls are normally seen as a sign of immortality, but also of strong emotion, not necessarily a happy one, so unless you clarify that those pearls represent tears of joy (which is something nice), I wouldn’t offer them pearls (I’ve heard of people getting in trouble because of this before). No offering meat either, their meat is said to grant immortality, so they take meat pretty badly. Offerings I personally recommend are items like pretty pieces of cloth with intrincated designs, spell bags, golden jewelry (bracelets, rings, headresses, I ussually offer a chinese hairpin of mine), water fountains, rice or beans of some kind. Tea or wine is good too. For the bowl of water, I’d fo for Moon water preferably, or freshwater. I recommend a lot of research on the culture they come from before any contact. I use seashells as jiao bei for them, but you can use other types of divination!
🌊 Greek sirens: Saltwater. Sirens should always be aproached after doing specially strong protection or shielding spells. They can be attracted with storm water, storm salt, sea salt, meat is a good offering too. Don’t sing. They are known for being a little bit too confident abour their singing, and may get offended if you sing for them. Specially since you’re human and they’re don’t like singing meals I mean human friends. Did you know what’s the merfolk’s point of view of why sailing with a woman aboard was a bad thing? yeah, they don’t like competition. There’s a story about them and the muses if you’re interested in why, but it’s better to just avoid singing lol. Other forms of art are good to go as long as I know, I’ve heard they like paintings (not sure why tho…). They really like mirrors too. And spiky things.
🌊 Nymphs: Flowers, Preferably fresh ones, put them on a water bowl and you’re done. River or lake water, or rain water. Flower crowns. Pretty clothes. Flowy clothes specially. These love to dance. Be careful, they’re tricky but trustworthy. Those little fairy and mermaid statues of fae babies are 100% good to go. Little things you find cute, like old toys (careful with this, don’t give them too much power over you if you don’t know them yet). Feathers. If you have a birb friend they’ll love him/her immediately. They adore animals and little animal figurines too.
🌊 Hope this is of help for those of you that are starting out in mermaid magic, you can always message me if you need help thinking on offerings for other specific species~🌊
🌊With love, Nao🌊

💙🌊Sea witchcraft.🌊💙
🌊A brief introduction🌊 I’ve seen lately that many people are interested in sea witchcraft. But… What is it?
Sea Witchcraft is mainly a practice, although it can be considered a religion sometimes.
This Craft shares some characteristics with Water Witchcraft, as Sea Witches work with different types of water, can work with some weather magic or so, while Sea Witches use also different correspondences related to the ocean, it’s creatures, flora, fauna, it’s cycles. The main difference is that, while Water Witches can use ocean’s energies or even see it as a big pool of sacred water (lol), Sea Witches see the ocean as a really important thing in our world, it is where all life started on Earth, it is one of the first sources of food humanity have known, and it is necessary for life on Earth to continue as we know it: In the water cycle, sea water evaporates and gets purified, then the winds take it somewhere else and it rains*. When it rains, it forms lakes, lagoons, rivers and, if the conditions are given, glaciers*. Without these, life would be surely almost impossible for us. For all these reasons, the ocean’s role is recognized and, in many cases, worshipped.
*: Sometimes it rains on the sea. Also, some places have acid rain, because of pollution, but in normal and natural conditions it wouldn’t occur, so rain is (in most places, where rain is not polluted) drinkable! be careful and check if rain it’s not toxic in your area!
🌊The Craft🌊
💙 The practice by itself it’s open for everyone.
💙 If you want to practice Sea Witchcraft as a religion, you can have water/lunar/sea related deities!
💙 A Sea Witch’s tools can be anything that makes you feel more connected to the ocean’s energies, these can be beautiful things as seashells, algae, watery herbs and crystals, different correspondences for creatures and water, and some more cheap materials as cords, paper for making sigils and really anything you find useful!
🌊How do you start?🌊
The first thing you’ll need it’s a strong love for the sea, done? prefect! then, I can give you some tips for getting started:
💙 As in any other type of witchcraft, you’ll want to read as much as you can: you can start with marine biology and geography, so you get to know the names, and some other data about the oceans that you may find really interesting!
💙 You can also start searching for the most basic tools as a wand, a bowl for water, a bowl for salt and, if you want, some more things as crystals, herbs, seashells, candles or anything you want to use in your craft! Also, a notebook to put all the info you’re going to acquire it’s a really great idea!
💙 In your notebook, now you can write down correspondences of types of water, seashells, colors, herbs, crystals and much more! you can even create your own correspondences of things surrounding you that you may want to use!
💙 Once you feel enough confidence, you can start spellcrafting! Your first spells may involve protection spells, or luck spells, easy things so you can get protected and start getting practice. My personal recommendation for sea witches is an self-iniciation ritual where you, after setting some protections on, present yourself to the ocean and offer your practice to it.
💙 As a Sea Witch, you may want to do some more witchy things daily. Some ideas can be: going to a near beach and collecting seashells or other interesting stuff and helping to keep the beach clean as an offering! Drink a lot of water, do some little chants or short spells for self-care or luck, and you can keep an altar for the sea!
💙 Many Sea Witches work with Lunar Magic, Weather Magic and Knot Magic, so searching for those too may be a good idea!
💙 Remember that Sea Witchcraft is about loving the sea and your strong connection to it, it’s like your home, so participating on raising aware of pollution and ambiental problems that may affect the sea, and doing some things like recycling or cleaning the beach is an awesome offering!
💙 If you want to know more about this practice, I have a whole section about it (My mermaid grimoire, here) and I’ll start posting a whole series of posts about it too, so give it a check! 💙

🌊💧Merfolk Masterpost💧🌊
🌊 💙 A little introduction 💙 🌊
This post includes what I have in my personal grimoires and what I personally know based on research, reading a lot, practicing myself, etc. It is a long list of creatures from different cultures, always be respectful and do your own research of the creature AND the culture they come from before contacting any of these. Some of them, in my point of view, should never be contacted, but that’s left to you. Be deeply respectful, minding and responsible for your acts.
💧 Freshwater Merfolk:
~ Iara (Amazonia): Beautiful ladies from tupí and guaraní culture. Immortal, known for luring man to the waters, leading to their dissappereance.
~ Melusine (Waters near France, or Germany): A Melusine is a typical illustration of a two-tailed siren or mermaid. Melusine was the daughter of Pressina, a water fairy, and a mortal man, King Elinas (or King Helmas). She wasn’t always a mermaid/serpentine creature. According to the myth and legend stories, she was stricken with this ailment or condition after her mother found out what Melusine did to her father, King Elinas. As Melusine convinces her two other sisters to help her kidnap their father and imprison him inside of a mountain, Pressina finds out and becomes very upset, punishing Melusine by telling her that she will become a half-fish/serpent creature every Saturday for the rest of her life.
~ Naiad (All kinds of waters of Greece): They were the nymphs of rivers, streams, lakes, marshes, fountains and springs, depicted as beautiful young women, usually seated, standing or reclining beside a spring, and holding a water-jug (hydria) or a frond of lush foliage. Often considered minor goddesses who attended the assemblies of other Gods and Goddesses on Mount Olympos. These nymphs were sometimes classified by domain: Pegaiai (Pegaeae) were the nymphs of springs, Krenaiai (Crenaeae) were naiads of fountains, Potameides presided over rivers and streams, Limnades and Limnatides inhabited lakes and Heleionomai were the nymphs of marshes and wetlands. Naiades, in conjunction with the goddess Artemis, were nurses of the young and the protectors of girls, overseeing their safe passage from child to adult. Of the various types of Naiad, the Pegaiai (of Springs) and the Krinaiai (of Fountains) were the ones most often individualised and worshipped. Those whose waters were believed to possess some special property might even have proper shrines and cults. Examples of these include the Anigrides of Elis whose waters were believed to cure disease and the Nymphs of Mount Helikon and Delphoi whose springs were thought to be fonts of poetic and prophetic inspiration. It is said that, if their home dries, they would perish too.
~ Rusalka (Cold waters of north Europe and Russia): plural=rusalki. They have really pale skin, ussually with dark hair, in colors like dark green, brown or black, and wear beautiful detailed dresses. These come from slavic folklore. They were once considered goddesses or nymphs of the waters, and offerings were done to them. They are often considered spirits today. They spend most of their time underwater, but come out of the water ussually in the first days of June, when they are seen in forests, near rivers and lakes, dancing, brushing their long hair or playing. It is said that if their hair dries, they die, so they always carry with them a magical “always wet” comb to mantain their hair wet. Also, it is said that hearing a rusalka cry is a bad omen, that is announcing the death of someone.
~ Jinjahime (Originally from japanese deep lakes,*): Serpentine creature, almost 7-8 meters long, with human head. They have two horns on their heads. Jinjahime rarely interact with humans, and spend most of their lives underwater. Some of them are servants at the Ryūgū, the palace of the Sea Dragon King. When they go out of the waters, is to deliver a message from the Sea King Ryūjin, or some other important sea creature they serve. *They can live both in freshwater castles or in saltwater castles.
~ Undine (From german lakes and rivers): Although this term is often used to refer to all merfolk, Undine was originally a freshwater sprite who was immortal yet had no soul. She could obtain a soul by marrying a human and bearing him a child. Legend tells that she married a human, and after having a child, she gets a soul and starts to age. Her husband then is unfaithful and she curses him and returns to the water.
~ Kappa (Japanese waters, lakes, rivers and ponds): These are mostly river sprites from Japanese culture, with some chinese and hindu antecedents. Often considered Kawa no Kami (river kami). The flesh-eating Kappa is mostly evil, but when captured, it will pledge to assist with farm work or to teach its captor the arts of setting bones and making medicines and salves. The defining characteristic of the Kappa is the hollow cavity atop its head. This saucer-like depression holds a strength-giving fluid. Should you chance upon the quarrelsome Kappa, please remember to bow deeply. If the courteous Kappa bows in return, it will spill its strength-giving water, making it feeble, and forcing it to return to its water kingdom. About the size of a child aged 6 to 10, the Kappa is nonetheless incredibly strong. It attacks horses, cattle, and humans, usually dragging its prey into the water
~ Kelpie (Scottish lakes and rivers): They are able to transform themselves into beautiful women who can lure men and trap them. However, the Kelpie does not always take a female form and are mostly male. In horse form, they ussually appear as dark horses, with green or black manes covered in algae. They are also described as being a particular danger to children when in the shape of a horse. Attracting their victims to ride them they are taken under the water and then eaten. It is said that once people tried to tame them, and failed, with great retailation. Sometimes, they take male human form, and there are stories of happy marriages and children of kelpies. Versions of this creature exist in the other Celtic nations. In Wales the “Ceffyl Dŵr” is another spirit associated with water. A shape shifter that can also take the form of a horse, sometimes with wings that can take any unfortunate rider into the air from where they plunge to their death. In Manx mythology there is a water horse known in Manx Gaelic as “Cabbyl-Ushtey”, that can also take the form of a gigantic bird, with noticeable grey or pale yellow colors, and also exists the “Each-uisge”, a saltwater variation described later.
🌊 Saltwater Merfolk:
*For saltwater merfolk, I’ve chosen to use my personal division of the oceans in 7 main oceans, the Indic, the Artic, the Antarctic, and I’m also dividing the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans by the ecuator line. So, finaly, I’m going to use these abreviatures: NPO (North Pacific Ocean), SPO (South Pacific Ocean), NAO (North Atlantic Ocean), SAO (South Atlantic Ocean), IO (Indic Ocean), ArO (Artic Ocean) and AntO (Antarctic Ocean).*
~ Aicaya (NAO*): From the caribbean sea. Aicaya are said to be young men and women who are disowned by their native communities and went to live by the sea. Aicaya will seek out these individuals and turn them in one of their own so they won’t have to feel rejected or alone again. The amazing and unique thing about the Aicaya is that they are all different but all accepted, so they aren’t all the exact same.
~ Amabie (NPO*): From japanese seas. Mermaid-like yōkai with a mixture of human and fish features. It has long hair and a scaly body. It has a beak-like mouth, and three legs. It glows with a bright light that can be seen from the shore. Their story is very similar to other prophetic yōkai such as jinja hime and kudan, which deliver a prognostication and then disappear.
~ Atargatis (NAO*): From Assyrian mythology. One of the appearances of mermaids in human culture seems to have occurred about 1000 BC in Assyria (roughly equivalent to present-day Syria plus the northern area of Iraq). In the mythology of Assyria the beautiful fertility goddess Atargatis became a mermaid after casting herself into a lake. The Assyrian mythology has several versions of events, but most include Atargatis falling in love with a mortal shepherd and having a daughter (the legendary Syrian Queen Semiramis), after which she throws herself into a lake (from shame or from grief at inadvertently killing her lover, who didn’t survive the divine lovemaking). Her beauty is such that she cannot die nor be fully transformed into a fish, and so she retains her feminine shape and beauty above the waist, while having a fish tail instead of legs.
~ Ceasg (NAO*): From scottish seas, specially the west coast of Scotland, although sometimes you can also encounter her in rivers and streams. Upper part of a young beautiful lady, lower part of a salmon. Also known as “maighdean na tuinne” (“maid of the wave”) or “maighdean mhara” (“maid of the sea”) in scottish. Legends say that if you catch her, she will have to grant you three wishes in exchange for her freedom. They are said to be curious about humans, and there are few tales about humans marrying ceasg mermaids. It is said the sons of a human and a Ceasg will turn out to be excellent sailors.
~ Cecaelia (NAO* and NPO*): These creatures are human looking from the waist up, and have a cephalopod body from waist down, may it be of an octopus, squid, or else, but mostly those two. (I’ve personally have known of Nautilus cecaelias…). They can also be called Sea Witches, mostly in the Pacific. They’re known for being remarkably intelligent, masters of glamour magic, and mimicry, and some folks are really good in the magical arts. They ussually hide themselves in deep oceans, caves or passing off as usual cephalopods.
~ Each-uisge (NAO*): A saltwater variation of the scottish Kelpie, also carnivorous, found in the Scottish coastlines, although can sometimes be also found in rivers and lakes near the ocean. By far, the most dangerous shape-shifter of them, in my opinion. Can take many forms, but ussually prefers that of a horse with tail, long sharp teeth and almost always in bright colors. Can also take forms of human, birds, pony, etc. It is said that they have sticky skin, to catch their victims, for example, when someone tries to ride them or simply touches them.
~ Gorgons (NAO*): They were three powerful, winged daimones named Medousa (Medusa), Sthenno and Euryale. Of the three sisters only Medousa was mortal. King Polydektes of Seriphos once commanded the hero Perseus to fetch her head. He accomplished this with the help of the gods who equipped him with a reflective shield, a curved sword, winged boots and helm of invisibility. When he fell upon Medousa and decapitated her, two creatures sprang forth from the wound: the winged horse Pegasos (Pegasus) and the giant Khrysaor (Chrysaor). Perseus fled with the her head in a sack and her two angry sisters chasing close on his heels.
~ Hydra (NAO*): From greek mythology. The hydra was a gigantic, nine-headed water-serpent, which haunted the swamps of Lerna. Herakles (Heracles) was sent to destroy her as one of his twelve labours, but for each of her heads that he decapitated, two more sprang forth. So with the help of Iolaos (Iolaus), he applied burning brands to the severed stumps, cauterizing the wounds and preventing the regeneration. This creature was one of the children of Typhon (Typhoeus) and Echidna (Ekhidna), the so called parents of monsters.
~ Hyppocampus (NAO*): Fish-tailed horses on greek mythology. In mosaic art they were often had green scales and fish-fin manes and appendages. The ancients believed they were the adult-form of the small fish we call the “sea-horse”. Hippokampoi were the mounts of Nereid nymphs and sea-gods, and Poseidon drove a chariot drawn by two or four of the creatures.
~ Ketea Indikoi (IO*): These were creatures from greek culture believed to reside in the Indic Ocean. These had the head of any land creature (human, goat, lion, wolves, etc) but ended up with a fish body, with sharp spines for hair.
~ Kraken (NAO*): Originally from Scandinavian mythology, the Kraken is a giant sea creature that attacks ships and is generally described as huge squid. The Kraken was said to lie at the bottom of the sea and only go to the surface in search of food or when disturbed, probably by a large ship. It was believed to cause large whirlpools and fierce storms.
~ Merrow (NAO*): These sidhe (irish faefolk) live near the Irish Coastline. They’re humans from the waist up, and fish from the waist down, ussually with noticeable soft green hair. According to the Gaelic myths, human men would see the beautiful female Merrow on the shores, and some would try to steal their cohuleen driuth (magic red caps they use to live underwater), so that they could not go back underwater. Many marriages (some less than ideal, given the method of “wooing”) were thusly arranged between Merrow and man. Just as selkies, if they recovered their caps, they would escape back to the waters. Some Merrows had chosen to live on land before, but after sometime they would feel naturally homesick and return home. Other Merrows would sometimes lure desirable men with their sweet voices and their magical wiles, and then take them under the waves to live amongst their own fairy kind.
~ Nereids (NAO*): The Nereids were sea-nymphs and were portrayed at times with fish tails and at times with legs. There were 50 Nereids, all daughters of Nereus and Doris, inhabiting the Aegean Sea with their parents. A prominent Nereid was Thetis, mother of the great Homeric hero Achilles. Another prominent Nereid was Amphritite, who married Poseidon and bore Triton. Nereus, father of the Nereids, was one of the Titans and was the oldest son of Pontus (the Sea) and Gaia (the Earth). He was considered the Old Man of the Sea, and was depicted as a human with a long fishlike tail. His wife Doris was the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, both of whom were children of Uranus (the Sky) and Gaia. When the Titans were were overthrown by Zeus and his siblings, Nereus was replaced as ruler of the seas by Poseidon.
~ Ningyo (NPO*): From japanese seas. Ningyo are more fish than humans, with a varying level of human-like features, ranging from just an ugly, deformed fish-like face, to an entire human torso with long, bony fingers and sharp claws. They can range in size from the size of a human child to the size of a large seal. Ningyo sightings go back to the earliest written histories of Japan. The first recorded mermaid sightings in Japan are found in the Nihon Shoki, one of the oldest books of classical Japanese history, dating back to 619 CE. The flesh of a ningyo is believed to grant eternal life and youth to those who eat it, and thus it is the subject of many folk tales. However, it carries with it a danger that most people are not willing to risk. Ningyo can place a powerful curse on humans who try to wound or capture them, and some legends tell of entire towns that were swallowed by earthquakes or tidal waves after a foolish fisherman brought home a ningyo in one of his catches.
~ Nyi-roro-kidul (IO*): She is a indonesian sea goddess, queen of the Indic Ocean (also called “South Ocean”), native to the Javanese and Sundanese cultures. She can take a mermaid form, in which she is referred to as Nyai Blorong. She is claimed to take the soul of any who she wished for. According to local beliefs around coastal villages on Southern Java, the Queen often claim lives of fishermen or visitors that bathe on the beach, and she usually prefers handsome young men.
~ Selkie (NAO*): Seals from Irish and Scottish coastlines. They can take the human form when they take off their seal skin. There are several versions as for how often that may happen: some stories say it occurs once a year, on Midsummer’s eve, others assert selkies transform into humans every ninth night. When they take off their skins, they dance and make merry in caves or on lonely shores. Selkie-men are unusually attractive for women of the human race. If a woman (married or unmarried) desires to meet a selkie, she has to go to the shore and shed seven tears into the sea. If a girl is missing at sea, they say that she has gone to her selkie lover. If a man manages to steal the seal’s skin of a selkie, she cannot go back to the sea and becomes a wife to such man. According to folktales, some marriages like that are happy, some are not, even though captured selkies are always seen sitting and gazing at the ocean longingly. The moment they are able to recover their skin (always by negligence of their husbands), they put it on and rush off into the sea, sometimes taking their children with them (if they can), or having to say said good-bye to their human children.
~ Sirena Chilota (SPO*): Delicate, sweet mermaids that are said to work for a water deity. They are strong and wise, and has the task of carrying souls of those deceased on water to be happy with the merfolk. They also protect sea creatures very fondly.
~ Sinjiki (NPO*): From seas close to South Korea. They have fair white skin and long black hair. They appear mainly during bright moonlit evenings or in early mornings to warn fishermen about oncoming storms or typhoons by throwing rocks at a cliff or by making warning sounds.
~ Sirena (NPO*): Philipino mermaids. Part of the “bantay tubig”, guardians of the waters. Upper part of a human and lower part of a sea creature.
~ Sirens (NAO*): The mythology of Sirens is fairly confused, but Sirens in Greek mythology were originally women with the lower body and wings of a bird, who lured sailors to their death by singing with indescribably beautiful voices. Then at some point they lost their feathers in a singing contest with the Muses (goddesses of literature, science and the arts), and being now no longer able to fly they flung themselves into the ocean – where they either perished or transformed into mermaids, depending on which legend you read. The Romans adopted the Sirens into Roman mythology as women with a fish tail, changing the myth of Persephone (now called Proserpina) into a new version that said they already were mermaids, and that became the much preferred interpretation in later times. The Sirens were supposedly daughters of the river god Achelous, and this lends some weight to the fish-tail appearance. Later Roman mythology made the Sirens also extremely beautiful and seductive, but still equally deadly. Even later, the Greek and Roman mythologies on Sirens were mixed with local myths, legends and beliefs in other cultures, and more “new details” started to appear, changing and variyng the version from region to region and place to place.
~ Siyokoi (NPO*): Philipinne merman. Male counterparts of the Sirena. They are said to be aggresive towards humans and have characteristic webbed hands, feet and ears.
~ Thessalonike (NAO*): She was the sister of Alexander the Great, and was immortalized when Alexander recovered a flask of water from the Fountain of Immortality and washed her hair with this immortal liquid. When Alexander died, Thessalonike was grief-stricken and jumped into the sea to kill herself. Being immortal, she could not die and was transformed into a mermaid instead. In this form, Thessalonike roamed the Aegean Sea for centuries, often asking sailors on passing ships whether Alexander still lived. If they reassured her that he still lived and ruled she would let them pass. If they failed to reassure her, she turned into a monster and sent them to the bottom of the sea.
~ Wani (NPO*): Sea creatures that live in deep bodies of water. They have long, serpentine bodies, fins, and can breathe both air and water. Wani are able to shapeshift into humans, and there are even tales of wani and humans falling in love. Wani are the rulers of the oceans and kami of the sea. They live in splendid coral palaces deep on the ocean floor. Wani have a complex political hierarchy which mirrors that of the surface world. There are kings and queens, princes and princess, courtesans, servants, and so on. Ōwatatsumi, also known as Ryūjin, is the greatest of them. He rules the sea from his palace Ryūgū-jō. He controls the ebb and flow of the ocean using the tide jewels kanju and manju.
💙 Ok, that was really long, and It’s all I have in my grimoire, and the best I could find. Tell me if you want me to add any other creatures/Kami/Gods/Goddesses that are considered part of Merfolk (Poseidon, for example, is not part nor related to merfolk) and I’ll do my research and add them! Hope this is useful, darlings. If anyone has any questions regarding the craft or any other inquiries, I’d be glad to help! You can always send me an ask or a message. 💙
💙 With love, Nao 💙 ⚡🚧NOT WITCHY BLOGS (WRITING BLOGS, GAMING BLOGS, ETC) DON’T, I repeat, DO NOT INTERACT, THANKS.🚧⚡

✨Ocean water is perfect for all types of magic and also adds some extra protection to the spell! ✨White round seashells are the “white candle/clear quartz” of seashells. You can use them for everything and also for an extra boost! ✨ Algae and seaweed also have different correspondences and checking those may be a really good idea! In general, they’re used for protection, psychic abilities and weather magic. ✨ All seashells can be used for protection spells. ✨ Sea salt is really useful for cleansing. ✨ Rocks or seashells with holes on them can be used for protection, luck and wishes! ✨ You can make some sea salt boiling sea water! Just remember to let it sit and filter it before. ✨ You can use driftwood for many different things, as making a staff or a wand, or just using it in different spells! ✨You can collect different things for your craft directly from the beach! As seashells, seaglass, rough quartz and much more! ✨ Don’t take starfish out of the water! They die rapidly and they’re an endangered specie. You can touch it as long as it’s not outside the water ✨Don’t take animals or creatures from the sea, respect their environment! ❤ ✨ If you’re going do a spell on the beach, remember to use biodegradable materials! ✨ Cleaning the beach can be an awesome offering! ✨ Remember that all the offerings you’re going to leave in the water should be completely biodegradable! ✨ Be careful with crystals that you put on the water, some can be toxic or can dissolve. ✨ When working with different types of fae, remember to be really respectful and stay cautious. ✨ You can also have a fish familiar. 🌊🌕Creating your own Moonring🌕🌊
🌊 This is how to create your own Moon Ring, based on the ones seen in Mako Mermaids! 🌊
🌊 A Moon ring, basically, is a ring with some sort of stone that stores some of the Moon’s powers. It can be charged by Moonlight, or with another object connected to the Moon, that bears the Moon’s energies.
🌊 First, you’ll need to choose your ring. It can be any type of ring, but I suggest silver, with a big, round stone that corresponds to the element of water, or to the Moon. I wanted my moon ring to be submergible (pearls, nacre, quartz, blue agate), but you can choose any type of stone (lapis, turquoise, moonstone, aquamarine, labradorite, etc)
🌊 Then, you can choose how to charge it with Moonlight. My technique is the following: first, I’d find a box, or bag, on which light won’t enter during the day. For one entire lunar cycle, keep the ring on that dark place during the day, and take it outside, to charge on moonlight every night, to then store it again. Make sure not to expose it to light except during the night. This is because solar energy (dominant, yang) naturally seeks to drive away, or fight off moonlight (receiving, yin), your Moonring, not finished yet, wouldn’t be able to resist this and would loose all the moonlight it stored. I do this from New Moon, all through the cycle, to the next new moon.
🌊 Meanwhile, create a sigil to represent the Moon’s energies. Render it above a drawing, photo, etc, of the Moon, on a pagespread on your grimoire dedicated solely for that purpose. You can write the steps to create the Moon ring on one page, and the sigil on the other. The more detailed, and the better designed it is, the better it will serve you, make sure to be specific: this sigil will store Moonlight, and will be connected to the Moon herself. (below you’ll see a photo of my pagespread, hope it helps inspire yours!)

🌊 Charge the sigil the same way you’re charging the Moonring, preferably together, so they can be connected to the Moon, and between them, at the same time. Open your grimoire on that pagespread, and let it soak moonlight during the night, then close it and don’t open those pages during the day.
🌊 Once one Moon cycle has passed, on the New Moon, go outside, and open your grimoire, and take out the ring. Put the ring atop the sigil, and recite this prayer:
Goddess Moon, I call you tonight, I ask for your energy to pulse through me.
Hear this prayer, Bathe in your ocean of light these Moonsigil and Moonring.
Let them soak up in your gift, mighty enough to control the tides and sea.
May them fulfill all tasks as asked, with the power that your divine light now brings.
[recite here your prefered closing incantation]
🌊 Then, store away both items, again, until the next Full Moon. On that night, spray your Moonring with Moon water, recite the prayer again, this time, before the closing incantation, add this sealing part:
I seal this power, what is stored here shall remain,
all that it contains is now and always my domain.
Water in my blood, power in my veins,
this energy will flood all that I ordain.
🌊 So that’s it! Have fun practicing with your Moonring!
🌊With love, Nao🌊

🌊Mermaid characteristics and habilities🌊
🌊Hey guys! This is a list I’ve made throughout my years of practice, adding and changing things as I grow up on it. It’s completely based on my experiences and research so feel free to add and comment about it! This will cover both incarnated mermaids, and spirit merfolk.🌊
💙Also, you can play a little game with me. Reblog and tick ✔️ the numbers that you have, or have heard about. I’d love to hear your experiences too!💙
🌊Physical qualities and personality🌊
1- Enhanced senses, hearing, taste, touch, smell, except sight.
2- As I said before, bad eyesight on land (99% of Mermaids I know wear glasses, no joke. Myself included), ussually some sort of weird condition that makes them have extremely well eyesight underwater, but awful bad eyesight on land. It’s rather funny that I know so many people like this.
3- Slow metabolism, if it’s Merfolk from outside the equator zone. Probably fat, or somehow genetically disposed to easily get fat. You know, the ocean is cold, we need that extra layer of lovely coziness.
4- Probably good singing in really high pitches, even if not so good at low ones. They’re really good for communicating among long distances. Think of it like kulning? Of sorts?
5- This is going to sound weird, but really thin hair. Probably not much hair either. It’s genetically connected to the ‘slow metabolism’ point. I’ve always thought this helps to be more hydrodynamic, who knows.
6- Really good at swimming, has a lot of fun swimming, or at least really interested in learning swimming techniques.
7- Extremely good with animals. Even those that are ussually difficult to take care of, or that are known for having “bad temper”, we can handle them.
8- Possibly has a fish friend, or some sort of water/amphibious creature, possibly has tried to somehow use them in their craft. Ussually as their companion or familiar.
9- Depending on the species, they can be either really extroverted, or really introverted (and somehow trying to open themselves sometimes). There seems to be no in between sometimes.
10- Again, this is going to sound weird, but we can take things too personal sometimes, or be highly emotional, probably because, well, water signs are strong on these ones.
11- And related to that last thing, merfolk have strong emotional intelligence.
12- Saltwater merfolk tend to like salty things? a lot? and most like really spicy things too.
🌊Magical habilities🌊
13- Empathy, present in all Merfolk.
14- Kind of telepathy? not exactly like in the movies, but can read other people’s thoughts, sometimes quite literally, and most of the time accidentally. Which ends up in some pretty akward situations. Mermaid witches often use this to maintain contact with the Ocean, their pod, or other beings with such hability.
15- Wind control. Most can easily control wind with their voice, whether by speaking, or singing. This is present in all Merfolk I’ve met this far. It’s called aerokynesis, ha, it sounds fancy, I know.
16- Weather magic. It’s… kind of a mix of a lot of stuff. Basically, we can sense water easily, and can control the winds, so if you are experienced enough, you can make a storm wait a few minutes so you can get out of your pool comfortably, oops, I mean bring storms, or drive them away. Try not to mess up the weather too much tho. Don’t be me, I was a foolish young mer.
17- Dreams. Sometimes prophetic dreams, sometimes just an answer to something you’re experiencing and can’t figure out, but most can easily read other people’s dreams, or receive messages through other people’s dreams too, not necessarily on their own only.
18- Extremely enhanced intuition. No joke, follow your gut, mer, It’s like the most useful gift you can have. And still, my spirit guardian hates that I ussually don’t listen to my intuition ‘cause, you know, sometimes it’s just weird things that I don’t belive can happen. Like “take your umbrella, It’s going to rain” and It’s perfectly sunny? but… in about one hour or less it starts raining and you’re like oops? yeah. That happens a lot.
19- Mesmerizing voices. If a mermaid speaks or sings out loud, everybody will just stand and watch, and listen. Don’t know exactly why, don’t know if it happens with all mer, but it is a thing. If you’re going to sing, be prepared for people staring at you weirdly and gasping.
Now all/most of the above are present in incarnated mers. Now let’s talk about spirit mers!
20- Pearlweeping/crystalweeping: It is said that east asian merfolk can cry out the finest pearls in the world. Specially those who mourn their lovers. The same way, mermaids in the Atlantic are known for crying crystals like beryl or Aquamarine, and that’s why those crystals are known for helping achieve a safe journey on water.
21- Shapeshifting: Some species can transform, but not all. For example, kelpies (and other types of the often called “water horses”) can shapeshift into mermaids, beautiful women, or other animals, like crows or wolves. Some mermaids can shapeshift back and forth from human form to mermaid form, like selkies, often using some sort of special item, like their skin.
22- Camouflage: Some species can change their appereance to fit their environment, and hide away from humans or predators, for example, cecaelias often have the same hiding skills octopi and squids have!
23- Hydrokinesis, or control over water. Although if whether or not incarnated mers can use this power is open to discussion, since I know of really advanced mermaid witches who can make waves or small whirpools (which can be connected to control the wind, and that’s why it’s open to debate), most if not all spirit mers can control water bodies, specially if they’re water personifications, like river spirits, or the Ocean.
24- Wish-fulfilling: Many species are thought how to use simple magic from a young age, and it is said that if you help a mermaid, they can grant you a wish. There are stories of mermaids having unique power objects, and if those are taken away from them, their life would be linked to that of their captor. If you save a mer from such life, they can grant happiness, and a prosperous long life!
25- Eternal youth: Again, east asian mermaids, particularly japanese merfolk, are known for being immortal kami. It is said that if you eat mermaid skin or flesh, you’ll be granted eternal youth too. Some legends say that you’ll become a mermaid, some other’s say you’ll just be an immortal human. Depends on the region, and probably of the species that reside there too.
26- “Drowning”: This special hability is present in all merfolk, and It’s unique to them. A mermaid can take other people’s energy from them purposely, think of it as concious empathy, but much stronger. It can range from feeling dizzy, to having serious headaches, and from really bad luck, to your whole life opportunities ruined. So be careful when dealing with merfolk, specially those well trained in magic.
💙Now… game time! Mine would be 2-6✔️, 10✔️, 12✔️ and 13-19✔️, 26✔️. I’d personally love to be able to have 21, 23 and 25 but lol not on this lifetime I guess~ What about yours?💙
💙With love, Nao💙

Mermaid Dust!

Hi people! Tonight i bring to you this little DIY for getting beautiful Mermaid Dust done!
💙Mermaid Dust correspondences are:
As is strongly related to water, is useful for emotions, relationships, healing, psychic abilities, exorcism and purification. It can be used for love, luck and protection too! Also, it works perfectly fine as an extra boost for any spell.
💙This is how you make it:
✨ You’ll need sugar (love, luck, healing, purification), mint (exorcism, protection, healing), eggshell powder (protection) and glitter on the color of your choice (for making it more “personal” to you. I use turquoise.) and crystals of your choice (optional)
~I recommend aquamarine, sodalite, emerald, citrine, pink quartz, amethyst, green quartz, tourmaline, hematite and/or clear quartz.
✨The amount of each thing i use is approximately the following, but you can use as much as you want and give it your own texture!
~¾ Sugar.
~2/4 Eggshell powder.
~2/4 Mint.
~¼ Glitter.

✨Then, put it all together and stir to mix it!

✨Once that you have something like this, put it on a jar or any type of container that you prefer, and use some crystals to charge it!

✨Here i’m using two pieces of aquamarine, one sodalite, two tourmaline, one pink quartz and one citrine.

✨Now, here comes something important. I leave it for a whole lunar cycle, from full moon ‘till the next one (or you can do it from the very start of the cycle, on new moon, ‘till the next new moon, choose based on your correspondences of which type of moon energy you want the dust to keep), on a closed wooden box with amethyst and clear quartz, so it can be properly charged. Another good idea is that, on a full moon night, you leave it outside surrounded by the gems you want it to be charged with.
✨At the end of the cycle, you can say a little chant of your choice when taking the dust out of the box or taking it inside home again or out of the windowsill… you understand my point lol.
💙Extra: As this is not safe to eat. If you want to make some eatable mermaid dust, i recommend using colored sugar (you can easily make it with white sugar and food colorant). Put it in some container, then put that inside your container with mermaid dust or surround your sugar container with a circle of mermaid dust (be careful not to mix it!) and leave it for a night, preferably on full moon. Next day you’ll have some dealicious mermaid sugar/dust for any healing spell, love spell, or any type you want to do!
You can make as much as you want of this, and is useful for almost everything! i really like it ♥
Well, hope you enjoyed this DIY!!!♥

Sea Magic Correspondence
Disclaimer: Since I’ve decided to start practicing Sea Witchcraft I’ve wanted to make a correspondence chart. You’ll find a correspondence chart for the element of water very easily – which can suffice for a sea witch – but I wanted to take what I could from a water correspondence chart but make it as connected to the essence of the Sea as possible. This is my own correspondence chart that I use and no one is required to use it themselves unless they want to.
Element: Water. Direction: West. Energy: Receptive. Time of Day: Twilight/Dusk. Star Sign(s): Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces. Planetary Ruler(s): the Moon, Neptune. Tarot suit/card(s): Cups; the Moon, the Star, and Temperance. Rune: Laguz. Metal: Silver. Magical tool(s): Cauldron, chalice, mirrors, and bowls. Herbs/flowers: Seaweed, ginger, rosemary. 🗻🌊Skye’s Landlocked Sea Witch Tips🌊🗻
I’ve seen a lot of aspiring sea witches being discouraged due to not living anywhere near the ocean. And I’m here to tell you that you can still be a sea witch and be landlocked! Being landlocked will only hinder you if you let it.
So, let’s get going!
🌊Making Your Own Sea Water🌊
You will need:
🌊A jar/air tight bottle. I find a swing cap bottle works best
🌊Sea salt, eyeball amount depending on jar size
🌊Warm spring water
Ground and centre. Listen to ocean sounds and visualise and feel the power of the sea. Connect with the ocean by doing a Sinking/sea centering.
Pour the water into the jar. Add the sea salt. Mix until the salt has dissolved.
Hold the jar in both hands in front of your heart, saying:
“🐚 Mother ocean, from whom life flows, Bless this water with your love and nurturing power, your endless beauty and strength, For this I am grateful. So mote it be 🐚”
(Feel free to replace mother ocean with the name of your sea deity, if you have one)
Close your eyes. Continue to hold the jar at your heart and visualise the ocean. With your hands, feel the sea’s energy emanating from the jar. When the feeling is strong, open your eyes. Your sea water is ready to use.
🌊🔊Sea Sound Scapes🔊🌊
Your sea water can be placed in a bowl and you have the ocean right there. Combine that with the sound scape, listening to the waves coming in and going out. Synch that with any spell work you want to do regarding waves, tides, giving things to mother ocean etc. With me, I place things in the bowl and then pour the water and item (if it’s eco friendly) in the stream near my house.
I also use this technique to place myself at the beach through the senses. Hold a seashell or touch some sand, taste some salt, listen to ocean sounds, have an image or video of the sea, and if you can (I struggle with this) have a scent that’s ocean themed. I’ve struggled to find one as most scented candles labelled sea breeze smell like soap… And with this, you can perform rituals and workings centered around that water you made. Through your visualisation skills you can be by the sea, even when you physically aren’t. Cool, huh?!
💙You Are Ocean💙
The ocean is within you. It’s your blood, the sweat, your tears, your breath, your pulse. The ocean has a rhythm, so does the human body. We’re 65% water. And what’s even cooler is we also have a tide. The moon affects the body’s fluids, just like it affects the ocean. These ideas have really helped me with my craft because being landlocked, I’m sometimes like “how can I connect with the sea?” So knowing I have a tide and the rhythm of the sea, which is like the rhythm of pulse, just totally blows my mind and amazes me!
💧💦Inland Water💦💧
Now this is something that kinda quenches my sea thirst. If you can, travel to a nearby lake, river, stream etc. Sit near it. Connect with it. Follow your intuition and connect with its energy. Ask Mother Ocean/Your water deity to help you.
Honestly, I’ve been in meditation near freshwater and the smell, if I focus enough, reminds me of the sea air and it literally transports me in my mind and senses to the beach. And that’s one of my vital tools in my craft. (talk about water being adaptable and water witches doing the same, eh?!)
🛀🚿Bath & Shower Magic🚿🛀
🌊Bath bombs. Look up their ingredients to know the correspondences, or, just make up your own. Lush are honestly amazing and their products have been used a lot in my bath rituals
🌊Sallllttssss! You can make a saltwater bath, meditate and relax and really tap into that ocean energy
🌊Bath tub altar. Have a little altar going on when you take a bath. Shells, candles, incense, trinkets you’ve collected or purchased, statues. Anything you have that makes you feel connected with the sea
🌊 You can use crystals that correspond to water if you like. Aquamarine, moonstone, fluorite, amethyst, labradorite, selenite and rose quartz are just a few examples. If you’re putting crystals in your tub please research which ones are water safe!
🌊Herbs and oils. You can add these to your bathtub. Please research again. Some herbs are toxic and some you may be allergic to. The same with oils, as some people have allergic reactions to them! I don’t often use herbs and oils for this reason. I get irritated skin very easily. I use coconut oil in my bath for purification and I just looooove coconut oil and the scent. Also its amazing for your skin! I use lavender oil and that’s literally it. I use oils outside of the tub, though. For candle dressing and other spell work.
🌊And if you don’t have a bathtub, all of those above ingredients and can be made into shower scrubs! They’re super easy to make and there’s a tonne of amazing tutorials around online!
🌊Meditate or work in the shower. Feel that water flowing down and through you, allow it to cleanse and charge you. Go with your intuition and explore the possibilities
🌩🌪️☄️Weather☄️🌪️🌩️
Weather. It all begins at sea. Snow, rain, thunder storms, winds, hail. Its all from the sea. The water is ocean water that’s traveled to the land. Weather magic is just a more expanded form of sea magic. Go out and let the rain cleanse you, collect weather water of any kind and make your sea water with it! Feel the power of a storm and focus on how much energy the sea has during that time. Feel her with you when you are on land! Remember to stay safe when practising weather magic, too.
🐚✨Seashell Magic✨🐚
And if you have seashells, they have amazing uses and correspondences. Offering bowls, amulets, charms, talismans, runes, charging items and so on. I highly recommend the book Sea Magic by Sandra Kynes as a lot of the tips I’ve given you were inspired or taken from that book :)
A quick PSA regarding seashells:
If your shells are store bought, they may not be ethically sourced. Some craft stores sell them by the many so try to be wary of this. It’s down to your moral compass whether or not you decide to use them in your craft. And if you do choose to use them, I advise cleansing them before any magical use. Furthermore, do not purchase nautilus shells, starfish or seahorses. Nautilus shells are endangered. Star fish and sea horses are taken alive, then killed to be sold in stores.
I really hope this helped! Have a swishy day! 🌊💙And if you have any questions, feel free to ask :)
