Our world is becoming a over saturated fuck hole. We spend most of our time trying to avoid it. We study, we work, we self medicate. Hoping some combination of these things will help us escape the chaos. But this is not how our universe works. To fight against this is futile. Complexity only knows increase - 2nd law of thermodynamics. In our rush to escape we never really attain any true meditative experience or happiness. It's why love means nothing. We crave immediacy. We are a product of cocaine highs. True love and life this is not. Our movies, music and heroes have lied to us - but should we really blame them. They like prophets of the past only gave the flock what they desired. Salvation. Which we bought. We always do. The truth of life is a dreary one. Unlike the natural world, we are not cyclical. Like our concept of time, we too are linear. A birth and inevitable death. And yet, we struggle for ever with the moments between. Awake, afraid, alone. Eyes glazed over, sometimes tears. We created heaven because we could not come to grips with our lot. Destined for extinction. Yet still boastful expectation. We looked at our faces; it's shimmering reflection in seas, at our achievements - our buildings, books and villages - and decreed ourselves beyond nature. Chosen, ours would not one day be merely history. Time was to be ours. To mould as we saw fit. Which we tried. Still try. Our only success is failure. The opaque window we have placed over true experience. Something not bottled, sold or chased after. The place you find yourself, without expectation. Floating in the Dead Sea, a battle for the ages on either side. Humans fighting to get to paradise, blind to the one between them. This is the line you snort, the joint you smoke, the whisky you drain. The earth. Miraculous, free and without consequence. Waiting for you to find it. It has always been there. We have overlooked and neglected it. Without bright lights and fancy labels, we deemed it insignificant. How could this be the cure for our self inflicted maladies. But, lay back. Undulate in the gentle surf. Why is this alien. It has existed longer than you. You are the alien. No twisting, turning or fighting. No need to control. Let those thoughts seep away. This is the high you have craved. Unlike any other before. Unique and remembered forever. You look out as the sun streaks across the mountains. Somehow you will never be the same.

The distinction between sanity and insanity is narrower than a razors edge, sharper than a hounds tooth, more agile than a mule deer. It is more elusive than the merest phantom. Perhaps it does not even exist; perhaps it is a phantom.
Philip K. Dick - Valis

We do not serve up people to ourselves; the universe does. The universe makes certain decisions and on the basis of those decisions some people live and some people die. This is a harsh law. But every creature yields to it out of necessity.

... it is sometimes an appropriate response to reality to go insane.

You will be required to do wrong no matter where you go. It is the basic condition of life, to be required to violate your own identity. At some time, every creature which lives must do so. It is the ultimate shadow, the defeat of creation; this is the curse at work, the curse that feeds on all life. Everywhere in the universe.
Philip K. Dick - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

You’re the smart one. Why didn’t you tell me life was a dream?
