Tonight my husband and I watched I Feel Pretty. I heard it was good from a couple friends.
I have to admit that I actually turned it off a couple times because I was totally getting triggered.
Self-esteem is something I have dealt with since I hit puberty when my weight picked up with the hormones. Weight was always a struggle. I went through one year in high school that I stopped drinking soda and sugary sweets and did lose a decent amount of weight. My self-confidence picked up for that at least part of that year. When some stressful personal stuff came up though later that school year and it all came back full force as there was new stigmas attaches to me.
My low self-esteem put me in some really not great places for my own mental health and bad choices that I made and were done by others toward me. I let it rule me for way too many years.
Society has warped our thinking in what we are supposed to look like, act like, dress like, what job we have, whether to be single or married, whom we should love and associate with, how many kids to have, pretty much everything we do or believe about ourselves or others.
We allow that to infiltrate and reek havoc within our lives. We believe the lies that others tell or most often that we tell ourselves. We struggle to see the beauty within us, the amazing gifts and talents we have, the unique personality and style that makes us “us”.
I only finished the movie because my husband had gotten into it. I fully admitted I full on bawled at the end scenes. I know those feelings all too well. I have made progress in many ways and areas of my life. My appearance and body shape still is one that I struggle with.
My amazing husband knew exactly what I needed to hear at the end and gave me the biggest hug as he whispered in my ear, “You are that beautiful amazing woman. This body carried and brought 5 great kids into this world. I love it all.” 💜😭
You are that beautiful, amazing person. You are you! May we all learn to accept ourselves more, love who we are and speak love into others. #selfworth #believeinyourself #brave #ifeelprettymovie #loveyourself #selfesteem
