I know it is never that serious but I just read a fic where a child (who is described to ‘invent’ their own vocabulary) adds an agent nominaliser to an already agentive noun to create a verb. which is like. an affront to universal grammar. dare I say practically impossible—the only form an agentive noun + other morpheme = verb structure could take in this case would be in a segmentation error and the child adds a progressive suffix to the agentive noun I guess(?). But I just cannot imagine any acquisition error that would result in the kind of morphological derivation where the -er modifier creates a verb even for the child since, yk, syntactic bootstrapping, UG, fast-mapping, frequent frames, distributional learning etc.

Am I the only one who’s fully convinced Sylus’s third myth is going to pull us straight into the arena from Shadowed Path? Because why else introduce that location if it’s not setting up something bigger? That arena is begging to be the stage for his next myth drop.

We know he fights hand-to-hand. We know he’s obsessed with boxing and martial arts—not just for training but as a form of control, survival, and maybe even penance. And we’ve already had Grassland Memory and Radiant Brilliance fleshing out his identity and past (somewhat). The arena feels like the missing piece—brutal, personal, and deeply tied to whatever fragments of his past are still bleeding through.

Plus, thematically? It fits. The arena isn’t just about violence—it’s about captivity, spectacle, survival, and the stripping away of self until only instinct remains. And for someone like Sylus, who’s spent his entire life walking that line between control and surrender, this would be the perfect myth to crack him wide open.

I fully expect fists, broken control, dragon echoes, and some emotionally devastating parallels to his current bond with the MC.

Hot take but: I don’t want Vampire Sylus for his third myth. Like, yes, obviously it would be visually appealing and the fandom would eat it up. But narratively? It wouldn’t actually push his character forward or deepen the myth threads we already have.

I want the third myth to hurt. I want it to peel back his control, show us the version of Sylus who didn’t have anyone to save him yet—not the Onychinus leader or the cold dragon hybrid, but the version who clawed his way through blood and silence to become who we know. The arena could do that. It would actually tie his entire myth line together.

So no Vampire Sylus for me. Give me arena Sylus. Give me pain. Give me character.
