(this is a good song #blah blah)Radiohead-knives out
'If you had been a dog, they would have drowned you at birth.'
Amnesiac is probably one of the most underrated albums I can think of. Granted it had to follow one of the greatest leaps forward in modern music in some time, it was still good as a standalone album.
Knives out has long been one of my favorite radiohead tracks. The constant melancholic ride, the subtle and perfectly placed electric guitar. The sense of hopelessness that weaves in and out of the tracks chord progressions. Absolutely fantastic. This song is a great example of Jonny Greenwood's rather unapparent (unless you know what to look for) overflowing genius. The small changes in the guitar line as the track progresses, the switch to playing triplets during the chorus, he makes and carries this song throughout.
A fantastic effort from the formerly great radiohead. What a fucking track.

farcical aquatic-reincaliet option
farcical aquatic-reincaliet option by ttptp
this one is super old. I took chopin samples and then built a song out of it. I recorded electric guitar through my old black macbook's input. I really dig the drop at 3.22 as well as the textural sounds at 3.42 leading to the outro (which I like as well). The song is kinda muddy, and at the end of the day, I don't really think it works, but I was trying new stuff so i still like this old track. Click and enjoy!

Today's song is one that carries a common theme among my tunes-metroid inspired. I used to (well, still really am) be obsessed with the idea behind the older metroid games (everything up to metroid prime [except fusion, fuck that game]). ANYWAYS, I like how melancholic and isolationistic the games were and I put tons of effort into writing loads of songs based on those emotions. here's an example of an earlier work I did with said topic as the influence.

(This is a good song #8)Micachu-Eat Your heart
Cause honestly, she could. I got onto micachu awhile back through dailybeatz, and fell in love immediately. On her debut album jewellery her 'pop' songs devised of fucked up instruments and weird time signatures that still contain solid choruses and hooks combined with Matthew Herbet's impressive electronic based production have been a HUGE influence on me, especially with the bearfeat shit. ANYWAYS, This song is a great example of all that. Let's Check it out!
The track drops with A FAT FUCKING BEAT (no complaints here) which transitioned beautifully into a wonky guitar chord progression in which Micachu sings atop whilst a deep kick and various 'drum' and vox samples pop in and out of the musical landscape. When the chorus arrives, it comes with guns blazing. Incredibly catchy and dripping with attitude, the chorus plays off strange accents and starts and repeats at odd time intervals. Another verse comes through, followed by yet another chorus, this time the chorus' mix being pumped up a bit, as she runs the phrase a few times, the song stops abruptly. Definitely one of my favorite jams, I hope you enjoy!!

farcical aquatic-first walk by ttptp
I wrote this one only using ymck's magical 8-bit plug-in (i'd provide a link, but google exists, so don't be fucking lazy). Anyways, I didn't spend a crazy amount of time on it, so it's a bit rough, never-the-less, still worth the upload.

(This is a good song #7)Bjork-Mouth's Cradle
I fucking love this track. If you're not so familiar with bjork, she's one of the very best and pushed electronic music way past being simple dance or complex idm, combining elements of postrock, noise, and orchestral works, she made a sound all her own, that in the time since created has influenced countless electronic artists. Fuck yes bjork.
After the incredibly dense vespertine in 2001, Bjork's work took a sharp left turn into an album of 90% vocal work (including the beats) with 2004's medulla. This is my favorite cut off that album, let's check it out. It starts out with a slightly off-pitch synth picking through notes, as different choral bits are layered and the synth slowly begins to exits, crazy vox samples as well as a kit made with just mouth sounds create a loop that bjork's lead vox sit on top of rather snuggly. As this verse progresses, choral bits are added back on, going through the first chorus, and picking up back at the verse. Bjork's throaty sound effects heard in said second verse not only add perfectly to the already jammin' beat, they perfectly convey her utterly gorgeous and unique charm (btw, did I mention that I'm in love with bjork?). After another verse/chorus, the bridge begins, a vocal crescendo of lady and dude choir parts build until one of the most satisfying resolutions I've ever heard right around the 3.30 mark. The song rides this feeling of elation for a few repeats before quickly dissolving into nothing. Great track, click and enjoy!

farcical aquatic-spacethings
farcical aquatic-Spacethings by ttptp
SO.... this is the first track that I did with only samples. Why?? (you probably won't ask, but...) I heard about this thing called asteroseismology, in which scientists study the inside of stars through methods that I cannot understand for shit... HOWEVER! they lead great samples of sounds that stars make. I grabbed a whole bunch of samples and went to it; it may not be the most impressive tune, but considering its limitations, i'm fairly proud!

farcical aquatic-sepitrode v2.1
farcical aquatic-sepitrode v2.1 by ttptp
Way back when I was putting my sampler tracks into logic to remix/keep for records/whatever, I got the inclination to make this puppy a little more hip-hoppy. This is more or less the first time I ever attempted to cut/copy/paste soundfiles (and it didn't turn out to bad, if I may say so myself!). Chase helped out with arranging the 8-bit tone, and after I added a few lead synths, BAM track's done. Anyways, Click and enjoy!

Ondes Martenot
Need something like a theremin, except maybe a bit warmer and heavier? Want something that has beautiful portamento and vibrato like said theremin, yet is easier and more intuitive to use? Have a shit-ton of money? Then the ondes martenot is for you.
This bad boy was invented about 8 years after Dr. Termin graced the world with the first electronic instrument. It's incredibly similar in both tone and texture, but has a slight edge due to its more traditional play-style and more variety in tone.
Control and play method
So basically, it works like a keyboard. however, pitch can be controlled two different ways; You can make runs along the keyboard, creating a staccato effect. Whenever you find a note to settle on, if you so choose to shake your finger as if to cause vibrato in a violin, the instrument would respond as such (or rather, the keyboard has strings-esque vibrato [how fucking awesome]). If you'd rather have a tone with portamento, the second method is perfect for the job. On the unit, sitting directly in front of the keyboard is a ribbon in which the pitch can be dictated by the finger, depending on where along the keyboard the finger is placed. A ring attached to a wire is worn while using this methodology, and vibrato and portamento are dictated very easily.
Also a bit different, the volume is controlled via a push valve (the further down you push, the louder the instrument becomes). This completely opens up the realm of the instrument's ADSR and makes modification of such integral to the manner in which it is played.
tone
The tone is controlled in two different ways as well.
The first is through a series of controls in the instrument's tiroir (tone control box thingy) located left of the keyboard. It has 8 different pure tones that can be mixed to the users desire to create tones. Ranging from a pure sine wave to pink noise, the instrument can create a wide range of textures.
Additional to the building the tone, the instrument has multiple methods of amplification, each giving its on little spin on the sound. Using different avenues of amping up, ranging from sympathetic resonance to using a small gong, the instrument has an incredibly large plausible tone bank.
I'm a little bit biased when talking about this instrument, I admit I think its the most gorgeous sounding instrument ever made so I tend to drool over its tones and range of uses. Having said that, and past my bias, this is a unique, incredibly versatile (O, and don't forget fucking expensive) instrument.
youtube bullshit
here's a great introduction to the instrument. The man tends to be a slowtalker and takes him a second to get to the point, but he gives a great brief explanation of the instrument. this is a video of a messiaen piece (messiaen was basically the earliest adopter of the instrument) gorgeously played by Thomas Bloch. AND THIS is the whole reason I began to be interested in the ondes martenot to begin with. Jonny greenwood is the modern version of messiaen, using the instrument in both his solo works, and his efforts in radiohead. click and enjoy this one, its fucking gorgeous.
