Mary I Introduction

Welcome. I am pleased you could make it here to court. I have been informed that you wish to know more about me, the most majestic Queen Mary I. Seeing as this is not a terribly difficult thing to grant, I mean to honor it. Shall we begin?

My early childhood as a princess was quite happy, indeed, probably the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. I had everything I could ever want, I was doted upon by my parents, the light of their life, especially seeing as they were not fortunate enough to bear any other living children besides me. It was always so nice to be called to court, to be paraded around in the arms of my father, shown off while my beautiful mother looked on. Then I thought that would always be how things were. That was not to be.

My father, King Henry VIII, got it into his head that his marriage to my mother was not valid, since they had not had a son. Nevermind the fact that it was perfectly legitimate in the eyes of the Church, the only entity that actually matters on this Earth. That assurance wasn’t enough for my father, he was determined to be rid of my mother, Queen Katherine of Aragon. This determination, I’m sure, was in part due to the influence of his mistress, Anne Boleyn, that goggle-eyed whore. Oh, later she tried to make nice with me, but it was on the condition that I bow to her as Queen of England, I bow to no one but my mother as Queen of England. The King absolutely had to have his divorce, and oh, he had it, but only after many long years of it being dragged out. Long years that saw me grow up, be forced away from my mother, in an attempt to break both our spirits, and that saw me lose hope for recovering my father’s favor and making a good match for myself and the kingdom I was supposed to inherit.

After the divorce my father wed that wretched woman and had a child, my sister Elizabeth. I did love her, she was a sweet girl, grew up to be as troublesome as her mother unfortunately. Speaking of her mother, that marriage to the King did not last long, she got her head cut off, and good riddance to her. Then my father married the saintly Jane Seymour. She was a good woman, she did her best to restore me to my father’s favor. Sadly she died giving birth to my brother, Edward. There was then a succession of other women that married my father, none of whom lasted very long either. His death then brought my little brother to the throne, where he was under the influence of men he should not have been. They sought to remove me and my sister from the line of succession, so as to place their own heirs on the throne. Initially, they almost succeeded, they place little Jane Grey on the throne for nine days, before my own armies removed her, and thus them, from power.

 Such was how I came to the throne, happily with my sister beside me as a supporter. Now I could finally right the wrong enacted so many years ago, I could restore the true religion to England, which had so spitefully been ousted by my father. At last, I was in my rightful place, the throne of England.
