So to make you feel a little bit better about the state of Gorion’s ward in BG3 it seems they made them and Abdel separate characters!

you can talk to Minsc about the times of trouble and about the bhaalspawns that they travelled with and he refers to the player character at the time with they/them pronouns and calls them simply Gorion’s ward, Abdel I think it’s referred to by a few other characters, but never by Jaheira or Minsc and not as your MC of Bg1/2

I'm enjoying BG3, but I absolutely loathe that Larian made Abdel Adrian 'canon' in these games.

Because no the fuck he isn't. And Gorion's Ward was definitely not a "he" as far as I'm concerned. She would die before agreeing to become a politician.

In case you're unfamiliar with fandom's three decades of lore and memes: fans never liked Abdel Adrian. He originated as the misogynistic meathead protagonist of the laughably bad novelization, which fans collectively agreed was not canon. And most importantly: the book was never relevant to the games' timeline, as it directly contradicted key details and events. The two were completely separate.

The original BG came out decades ago and had multiple endings. "Canon" was always going to be tricky. But it was totally unnecessary to specify a named/gendered version of Gorion's Ward. No one needed or wanted that, and it's frankly disrespectful to longtime fans of this series.

I hate it so much. It's putting a bit of a damper on my first experience of this game, which until now was 10/10.

The implication of Louis saying “It’s not perfect”, but Lestat only hearing that Louis is dissatisfied, which translates to “I’m not perfect” as in Lestat feels it’s his fault that Louis is unhappy, which spirals back to Lestat saying it was a miracle that Nicki had ever loved him, but it was inevitable that Nicki would grow to hate him, because Lestat’s light was “too much” and harmed the ones he loves as in “I’m a lot. I’m not perfect.” 😭💔

I can’t stop thinking about how Anne Rice said that writing the devils minion chapter in qotd was what made her realize that Armand wasn’t the “bad guy” bcus like,,,,,yeah. Like, we meet him in iwtv, and he’s poised and seductive with an ominous undercurrent. We can’t prove he killed Claudia but there’s definitely more going on then meets the eye. He keeps humans like pets to drink from and discards them when they become inconvenient. Very much a puppet master with a pretty face. The we meet him again in tvl and he’s..Not as Poised certainly. He’s a wreck and he’s broken and lost and full of resentment. He has nothing to hide, he’s a cult leader who mass murders his followers and attacks Lestat like a beast begging him for dick screaming and crying and throwing up. Then we leave him like that and meet him again, and he’s iwtv Armand again! But now the mask in unveiled, he’s very explicitly evil, killing Claudia, manipulating Louis, torturing Lestat, etc. and that’s Armand. Antagonist Armand, until Queen of the damned. Queen of the damned Armand is iwtv and tvl Armand certainly. He’s manipulative and obsessive and monstrous for sure. But he also has an adorable laugh that makes him seem youthful and human. He loves humanity and technology, and watching the times change. He doesn’t understand why men are violent when they don’t have to be and he thinks Time Bandits is hilarious and Blade Runner is too bcus it reminds him of his friend Lestat. He thinks cameras are a marvel and film is a miracle bcus it allows him to see the sun after all these years. He gives money to children trick or treating bcus they charm him. He’s protective, he loves to nurture. He thinks vampirism is a fate worse then death and he would never ever want to inflict that on anyone. But he’s weak and emotional and he gives in bcus he can’t handle seeing Daniel die. And I just,, uuugh. Devils minion is so good it’s like the icing on the cake of Armand.

I think people need to understand that even after everything that happened in Paris in the 18th century between Lestat and Armand, even after Lestat rejected him, even after Nicky, ARMAND STILL KEPT A PORTRAIT OF LESTAT FOR OVER 150 YEARS in full view. And not any portrait of Lestat. It's Lestat in his WOLFKILLER red coat! Lestat at his bravest, at his most impossible rule breaking self, Lestat who was victorious when he should have died. That's the Lestat Armand chose to commemorate. Everyday, en route to the stage or when he spent time in his office writing a play, he had to look upon Lestat's face. my favourite trope will always be when someone believes they're hard to love because they have scars and are so human that it feels unreal and someone who loves them like it's breathing, natural, easily, devoted and just. it's lovely. they're just too consumed with love and don't want to stop being half of the other's soul.
