PIANO YUMMY... god the vibrato in her voice is so controlled and the piano is just wonderful and poignant and sleek. she's so fr boys make me sad too. this is so... her voice going slightly guttural but some rasp in there as well??? insane. ohhhhh nice jazzy beat on the drums. god the scatting. this is so moonlit night to me. also like how she dips into some talk singing at parts, it's so light n airy and she's having fun with it. lil yell. fgod. also being a dreamer so fr. be delulu!

OH GO OFF GIRL. visually its giving sunlight peaking out of the clouds if that makes sense. when her voice goes a bit throaty and heavier it sends me a bit because it's just such a nice sound. god. oh honey is crashing out she is YEARNING. same. her layered stuff so good and this lil keyboard/piano riff in the back is so good. oh i love this chorus and the ahhhhhhs, but truly when she gets louder with that voice i shake ass and cry. fadeout to layered vocals only? ooooooh

oh oh oh oh oh oh so evocative. ohhhhhhhhh this piano. slightly dark but hopeful and it feels like a bit of a turning point. immediately though. love an interlude in any album ever. ascending notes that start to descend and then this springy and light section??? oh..... this is beautiful. love a diminuendo into such grand chords???? oh this playing with volume and grandness is so nice. light n shade with the lighter higher sounds mixed into the mid range once. major chords tears are springing to my eyes. beautiful.

BABE I HOPE YOU KEPT DISTANCE LIKE YOU PROMISED. ugh her imagery is top tier. took a flight through aurora skies??? also fucking. it hurts to be something its worse to be nothing with you. god. falling upon my sword. wtf? her runs are always immaculate and these instrumentals go so fucking harrrrrrd. its somehow light and airy but with the bass and drums there's a bit of an emotional depth to it. atmospheric with what sounds like strings too??? OH GIRL FALSETTO FLIP after her louder vocals. yummy. this is so sad though. these violins be doing their job. love the lil syncopation of the piano in the back. im whining. her humming is so gorgeous among everything she's ever done.

OHG LBHJJKLBH god this is so beautiful. the big instrumental moments here with the swelling and diminishing is just SO intriguing and it keeps your ears on their toes and i just. wow this means lots to me i think. this is a PERFECT fucking. oh those high strings are cutting through the complex instrumental just so well only to descend back down. yummy. HORNS???????????? oh girl. pretty chimes. ow

thoughts: okay as a jazz and classical and pop lover among many other genre. i knew i was gonna like this already. but i really do think this was even better than i expected???? i think classical music has such a space in every genre honestly and the dynamics that you can play with using woodwinds and horns and strings are just so so wonderful and attention-grabbing so the decision on some songs to pair it with usual jazz forward (and band forward) instruments like guitars and keys and drums and bass is just astronomically good. laufey also has the voice of an Angel her tone is just incredible and unique. the slight fuzz and warmth especially in her lower register is so ear-catching and beautiful but she's got such a range and the ability to tackle runs so effortlessly. BEAUTIFUL. fall in love with me laufey challenge.

HARPSICHORD WHAT THE FUCK!!!! also with a bassy keyboard behind it! god his vocals in this are so buttery so yummy with just a hint of nasality? also god this fuckin time signature is all fucked the harpsichord is playing in a completely different time. bass and drums come into the fold so carefully subtly it’s beautiful. everything is just a little heavier but it’s still so light and mysterious and plain cool??? guitarrrrrrrrrrrr oh the reverby echo???? this solo always gets me !!!! ohhhhhh vocalisation that’s so echoey and sooooooo otherworldly is insane. the deepness and the layering of it is Fucked. this is truly such a soundscape AGAIN! chu bee fair idk how they’re so in sync when the times are so different.

ohhhhhh this is different. screechy little synthy things going on to more spoken vocals with an insane lil bass trying going on? so sectioned with the vocals and instruments it’s really cool!!! the layering of the guitar pitches are so nice. AH TWANGY GUITAR mixed with some bongo vibes!!!! nah this is so fun!!! ohhhh these lil drum things sound like trickling raindrops. not sure what exactly they are but it adds such a cool effect. god that high frequency synth solo what the fuck !!!!! so insane so sick!!! ohhhh it fluctuates so nicely and smoothly between notes. descending vocal line with fuzz and partially covered by the instrumentals TO A FADEOUT

Oh This Is Grand. this intro is so beautiful???? what sounds like strings (made with keyboard) with a high smooth guitar part with echoey reverb and bass. OH ITS A SPOKEN PART IN FRENCH. beautiful. these words are so lonely and beautiful too and that’s conveyed so well with the effects placed on the voice itself? drums………. god this is so twin peaks right now !!!! DEEP SUNG VOCALS WHISPERING. back to spoken word with the bass getting a deeper sweeping moment??? oh beautiful deep staccato notes. there’s such a cool effect put on his voice this is….. really cool. the stringy synths really paint the background of this with colour. OHHHH high synthy parts joining the mix in a fun little flourish!!!! that bass…….. is so genuinely yummy holy goooood. spoken word so cinematic and lovely. the “la folie” being sung so deeply and whispery is so nice and comforting….. i love this. beauty guitar part at the end so soft so nice so echoey. drums holding down the fort so well UGH.

thoughts: okay. okay. i was genuinely surprised at how varied and genuinely INTERESTING this album was? like the tempo variations the key changes the instruments used the shifting parts the vocals and the USE of all of it to set tone? the tone itself was also so insane and has to be mentioned because there was so much interplay with shadow and light in each song?????????? incredible. i know talk-singing isn’t for everyone but i think it’s cinematic and cheeky and fun so i loved it. l o v e d. genuinely surprised at this guys!!!

GOD YEAH. these lyrics and the riff that reappears in between the lines??? yum yum yum. i swear the little bit of whine in dave’s voice especially during the chorus is soooooooo lovely it’s so perfect for the song i think especially when his voice is so raspy for a lot of the song??? OHHH stripped back layered vocals on the ‘temper’ repeated lines?? DAVE SCREAMING? god this fucks!!!! so cathartic!!!!! and right back to the chorus??? perfect. the drums are so solid and the bass and guitar work so well together this FUCKS! adore the repeating ‘fall in fall out’ parts!!

BACK to the heavier instrumentals with soft vocals that move into rasp??? WHEW. also these lyrics hurt as well!!! it’s such an emotive album so far but it’s SO good? OH little falsetto moment in the layered backing vocals. TRULY living for the slight whine in his voice i’m TELLING you. oooooooo cute lil guitar moment. the lead is so Clear and it’s just breaking out of the muddy bass and rhythm. DRUM BREAK AGAIN. RASPIER HEAVIER VOCS this is insane!

acoustic guitar strumming beautifully with just the loveliest lyrics. there’s something along with the guitar that’s just a little darker and deeper and it does feel so nice. very grunge very beautiful. cymbals slowly phasing in. yummy. they sneak up and its beautiful!!! these vocals too are so insane to me. so gentle so evocative!!! they truly can do it all. why is my heart breaking at this album i haven’t even gone through a breakup like ?!!?!! sorry again so entranced by these cymbal runs. yum. guitar is nice and jangly at some parts but so soaring and clear too?? god.

WE ARE BACK EVERYBODY!!! fun lil electric guitar riff with some western jangle in it. love. love how raspy n beautiful the vocals are. this sounds much more alt rock than some of the other ones and that is COOL i love it!!!! fun lil bass lines in my eeaaarrrrssssss. so good. oh???? OH?????? whispering with almost completely stripped back instrumental. gradual crescendo with some light higher strumming of a guitar??? this is SICK???? OH SHIT THEYRE SPEEDING UP!!!! TEMPO CHANGE FOLKS!!!! SCREEEAMMM IT OUT WOOOOO!!!! this is so COOL!!! once again insanely evocative but it feels like acceptance to me which is so fascinating and SUCH A WAY to start closing out the album. OOOOOOOOOO lower pitched guitar just beautifully playing and soaring so clearly above the instrumental. FADE OUT !!! LIFE CHANGED!!!!

GOD drums also insane right now just loud enough to be caught and it’s melding so well with everything. CYMBALS. woooooow!!! SHAPE SHAPE SHAPE SHAPE SHAPE!!!! okay i know i said acceptance but this is FULLY a fit of anger and i LOVE IT!!! ohhhhohoho. feedback from the guitar to fade us out. INSANE. ENERGIZING. BATSHIT. wow.

thoughts: foo fighters truly kings of changing up the tone and brightness of the song. like fully switching from gentle strumming and piano to fully-fledged hard rock. muddy grimy guitars and bass to light and flowing power ballad moments. screaming to falsetto!!! how. wonderful. also they’re just so intriguing and creative with riffs and melodies that it’s so lovely to listen and see where the song goes! this album is truly breakup album ever. WOW. thank you kk for changing my neurochemical structure.

ooooooh this is good. keys throughout the beginning are insanely thematic and fit really well with her beautiful voice! the layering is gorgeous! the lyrics hurt me and are very filmcore to me, fitting perfectly with the music <3 the little distortion bits about halfway through are so tasteful. yummy. the layering growing and the volume getting louder? love. chiming strings are lovely. atmosphere insane !!!! warbling keys at the end i owe my life to you <3

immediately struck by the acoustic guitar and the layered vocals. beautiful. bass and drums pick up and it’s a vibe !! oooooooooh god falsetto in the background fucks! he lil upticks at the end of some phrases are mesmerizing. lyrics are fun! and so earnest at parts! two tracks in samia already has a gorgeous voice.

stripped down piano and vocals immediately i’m in love. jesus these lyrics are. something else and presented in a way that captures the emotion of the song. feels kinda nostalgic and youthful which absolutely adds to it. jesusssssss the heartbreak the reality of it. the ending phrases are going to

OOOO fun lil intro with a good beat and keys!! voice is so effortless this is insane. loving the distortion and the CRACKLY GUITAR. so nice. goooood!!!! all of these lyrics so far are incredibly real and feel so coming of age and youthful. papa mbye has such a smooth voice it’s so pleasing to me? and it works insanely well with samia’s???also love the interplay between the two with the lyrics. lovely

screaming “porn kills love outside your window with the adventists” was a fun sexy lil starting line and immediately endeared me. cause yeah. also starting the phrase with just her voice then adding the bass-heavy keys is such a good choice. also this is just painting such a picture of a nasty breakup with someone you still care for and it’s killing me right now! beautiful. samia QUEEN OF LAYERING. WOAH. DISTORTION BREAKDOWN INTO SOME DRUM BEATS AND SYNTH. this is so funky but the chiming keys still feel sooooo youthful and hopeful !!! very intrigued at what the spoken parts near the end mean and might look into it further but samia’s voice is beautiful on top of it. probably one of my favourites on the album so far.

to me it was

ohhhhhhh fade in from the last song with some pretty acoustic guitar. this feels like a story or letter adressed to someone and gives very much the impression of anxiety and coming into one’s own with someone else by your side. beautiful. very emotionally evocative with some beachy guitar and fun slides. this one might be the realest one i think. ALTO HARMONY JESUS that was nice. more layering and harmonies and it feels so nostalgic and so hopeful!!!! this is beautiful. a little spoken part that gives a slice of life that transitions into another language!!!

breathing song

ooooooo. separated synthy parts at the beginning and her vocals (autotuned but so tastefully!) shine so beautifully. twinkling notes mixing beautifully with the bass-heavy synths then the piano picks up on top of that? raindrops! these lyrics….. very evocative and make me think of an unhealthy relationship and working through the mental health aspect of it. OH instrumental cuts out and samia belts so desperately…. gorgeous. ABRUPT CUT ??? queen

so lovely. acoustic guitar strumming pretty quick and light and the lyrics are VERY night out with the girls after a long week and the world just falls away. so hopeful but at the same time there’s… a note of melancholy that i can’t help but feel? layered harmony and drums kicking in, this is so feel-good. BASS BASS BASS. GOD YUM? cute lil riff underneath? oooooooh. male harmony underneath transitioning into what sounds like a choir. beautiful beautiful beautiful. this is truly like. 2am at a party you don’t want to stop!

ohhhhhh god. the lyrics on this one…. starts out hurting lots!!! “trying not to cry while the choir sings bleak midwinter cause they believe in something” ohhhhhh. sweet little guitar plucking with the slightest bit of feedback/electricity filtering through. feels like a bit of a lullaby. PICKING UP WITH SOME BASS AGAIN i love this !!! still feels very ethereal and honestly like looking out of the window during winter and watching the snowflakes fall, contemplative and depressed and can’t look away. WHISPERS IN THE BACKGROUND and instruments and vocals harmonizing with her voice. CUTE MALE CHOIR MOMENT with a soft “hey boys” introduction, and i love that their voices aren’t as polished.

keys!!!! soft vocals with a bit of rasp filtering through is scratching my brain quite nicely !!! OOOOO !!! fun drum beats and layering with some pretty guitar! her voice kinda phasing in and out is so nice! another really exciting song that feels like FUN. samia’s higher register is my favourite thing that’s insane !!!! lower guitar riffing hidden in the background provides such a nice harmony there. PULSATING SYNTHY BURST. WHEW.

ooooooo. pretty pretty lower guitar mixing so well with her voice, transitioning into an ascending little riff that goes back down. layered harmonies get me INSANE!!!! this song sounds like feeling on top of the world with someone no matter how impulsive or reckless it is. beautiful contemplative lyrics <3

thoughts: beautiful beautiful album perfect for coming of age movies, breakups and scream-crying about!!! i love the way samia uses layering and the keys, and the way the song progresses and gets more complex and deeper/bassier! fun poppy indie mix!!! samia’s lyrics go so hard and they’re subtle sometimes in that you hear it, take a quick second to process it and feel your heart drop a little <33
