aaah thanks for the tag @akyrahaiato ~
the last song you sang aloud: probably "good luck babe" by chappell roan, but it is worth mentioning that it was sung in the high-pitched horribly-pronounced style of a bunny character i'm currently writing for a book project (very much a "how would he sing it" type of experiment)
your favourite crisp flavor: i mean mexican peppers and cream is probably the best of all time, but for everyday snacking i usually go for pretty basic stuff, like salt or salt & vinegar
the last book you opened: Invisible Circus by Jennifer Egan (I've been on a total Egan kick lately, her writing is ~inspirational~)
earbuds, headphones, or nothing: if i'm at home, nothing, but if i'm in public, headphones.
the last place you went, other than home: a supermarket in town to stock up on arizona ice tea (like my obsession with arizona is an actual problem; the oversized drinks are perfect for work cause you can sip 'em across several hours, but i've reached the point where friends buy me arizona merch and colleagues will get me arizona to cheer me up. somehow it's become My Brand and it's awful)
a color that looks good on you: lilac, for some goddamn reason. in all my years on earth the thought would have never occurred to me to dress in lilac, i'm a black/jewel tones kinda person, but then i found a vampire shirt (as in full on ruffles at the lapels and collar kind of vampire shirt) second hand, and immediately bought it despite the fact that it was a very pastel lilac color, and then i had to accept the fact that apparently lilac suits me very well
the last trailer you saw: probably the trailers for the murderbot show. i haven't read the books, but all my mutuals love murderbot, so i'm invested on their behalf
tagging anyone who's up for answering questions <3
a fun lil catch up tag ! ❣️
thanks for tagging me @thearcaneuniversity ☺️
the last song you sang aloud: “last time (i seen the sun)” from sinners, i think ? but i sing aloud so much that another song might have snuck in 😭
your favourite crisp flavor: salt & vinegar !!! it’s gotta be. 😤
the last book you opened: Persuasion by Austen; i’m at the very end once again !!
earbuds, headphones, or nothing:
headphones, for sure
the last place you went, other than home: my best friend’s graduation party !! & before that, the uni library heheh 🙈
a color that looks good on you: grey ! especially warm greys. light blues also look pretty good.
the last trailer you saw: mmmm, it might not have been the last one, but the one my friends and i talked about most recently is for the movie Him (the horror movie about a football player?)
tagging: @bone-dyke , @notesbyash , @coffeemrk , @academicfever & anyone else who’d like to join ! 🩵

except here, where he passive aggressively instructs us on how to make proper coffee

so all over the office we use the neighbours as positive reinforcement, like theodore the 3rd celebrating tasks being done

#for months we struggled with coffee that was either thick like tar or so lightweight it looked like slightly brownish water#and we're swedes we need our coffee black and powerful -- but not so bitter you choke on it#after the theodore note appeared every new pot is well balanced#amazing

aaaah this is so nice!! <3 <3 <3 (and also makes it feel all the more worth it to struggle on with our linux version haha. like there are so many times during development where it's like "ugggh why are we even doing mac and linux" and this is why <3)
Twinkleby: Create Your Floating Island Adventure in the Demo

Twinkleby demo is here to let you sample the cozy decoration game on Linux and Steam Deck via Windows PC. Thanks to the creative magic of the team at Might and Delight, who bring their charm and personality. Which you can now try on Steam. Imagine waking up on your very own floating island. The sun's just rising, the clouds are drifting lazily by, and the only thing on your to-do list? Make this dreamy little sky-world completely your own. Sounds good, right? That’s exactly the vibe you get in Twinkleby, the new game demo from Might & Delight. Who is also the same studio that brought us the atmospheric Shelter series. And guess what? There’s a free Twinkleby Decoration Demo live on Steam right now! But heads up — it’s only available until May 20h, so don’t sleep on it. In this charming demo, you’re handed the keys to your very first floating island. You’re not surviving or grinding — you’re building. Dreaming. Decorating. It’s like Animal Crossing if it ditched the debt and let you float among the stars. From the moment you step foot (or hover?) on your island, you can start laying down furniture, arranging adorable homes, and setting the scene for your perfect cozy escape. Want a sun-soaked summer vibe? Go for it. Prefer something a little more mysterious, like a midnight-blue dreamscape lit by distant stars? That’s on the table too. The Twinkleby demo hands you the brush — you paint the mood. And the best part? You’re not alone. As you play, two ridiculously cute residents might just wander into your world and move into the dollhouses you furnish. It’s like they’ve been waiting for you to build them a home. Feels good, right?
Welcome to your island! Twinkleby Demo Gameplay Trailer
youtube
But don’t let the chill vibes fool you — there’s depth here. In the full game title (coming 2025 for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck), you’ll unlock an entire star chart of islands. Each one has its own flavor, its own potential for discovery. Build whimsical neighborhoods, collect long-lost space antiques, and meet a wild cast of quirky characters... some of whom you might want to evict. (Yeah, they’re that weird.) Twinkleby demo isn’t about winning or losing. It’s about feeling. The full version is about taking a break from the chaos and building a beautiful little corner of the universe that’s totally yours. It’s escapism in its purest form, and it speaks directly to the part of us that just wants to chill out, customize stuff, and watch the world come to life at our pace. Oh — and yes, Linux gamers, you’re fully included. Might & Delight is making sure Twinkleby supports Linux, Mac, and Windows PC right out of the gate, but the demo is playable via Proton. Plus, it’s Steam Deck compatible. Cozy vibes on the go? So fire up Steam, grab the demo, and let Twinkleby whisk you away to a world where the sky isn’t the limit — it’s just the beginning.

but also LET ME TELL YOU -- original theodore did not have an umbrella.
we have so many "jumping off the island"-experiments. some of them will probably make it into the main game, but uhm. this one likely won't lmao
my favorite part of new players experiencing twinkleby is always when they evict a character, only to be immediately traumatized by watching a devastated wallis or theodore run weeping and screaming towards the island's edge

i mean look, it's all good, the neighbours are spacefaring creatures who will travel by umbrella if there isn't a boat nearby (as seen here, in an early animation experiment)
look at him goooooo

#i mean it's fine they soar away like mary poppins with their lil umbrellas#and they will emotionally recover i promise#but that moment of 'what have i done are they going to JUMP?' is glorious#twinkleby

today's vibe is the animators playing crying and screaming audio over and over as they work on upping the drama of evictions
#'no no -- it needs to be more -- you know what i'll do it myself *insert the loudest weeping you've ever heard*'#behind the scenes

Do you know the WHIPLASH I got from getting the "Twinkleby demo is out!" email from the Might & Delight newsletter (I backed Book of Travels) and squinting very hard like, "wait... isn't that... Theodore... that I saw... recently beheaded due to bed bug reasons on Tumblr...?"
and miserably going through the Steam page like, "that doesn't sound like the blog I'm pretty sure I know Theodore from. That can't be right. Something's wrong. Might and Delight is An Actual Game Company, and this random blog is very clearly A Person On Tumblr"
AND IO
AND BEHOLD
the one and same????
omg what an amazing journey lmao. but yeah, haha -- one and the same!! this blog is simply run by a dev who's been on tumblr since like 2012, and felt like it was about damn time we chronicle the development of our new game the same way we do on our internal slack. i feel like a lot of the joy in development is lost when companies do Company Communication and Marketing, so i just wanted to create a corner where we have none of that and i just post the way i would on any on my other blogs and share the progress of creating twinkleby ~
#like beyond just the horrific bugs and animation mishaps#there's just something special about being along for the ride and forming relationships with the characters and world as its being worked o#like when the game is done we'll have so many characters#and when you meet them for the first time i don't expect theodore to stand out#and maybe he'll even have a different look in the final version of the game!!#but to us he was the first guy who made it into the game and wallis was a close second#so they'll always have a special place in our hearts#and like i definitely have dev brain and have been working on this for too long#but i for one project a whole complex personality on theodore at this point#simply because i have been around to see him get into all kinds of wacky situations during this past year#after we've tested feature after feature after feature#like i just dug up our first re-location test and i CANNOT WAIT to gif it and show y'all#theo's been through it#asks

Twinkleby - demo time!! 🌤️✨
yoooo, we have a free demo up on steam!! it'll be available for a week, because we heard that limited-time demos are good for marketing. but anyway; Twinkleby is a cozy social-sim decoration game, where you build small neighbourhoods on floating islands. as you change the scenery, you change the soundtrack, and when you decorate, you will attract quirky neighbours to your island -- you choose if you let them stay and cater to their wishes, or if you'd rather evict them! dun-dun-dunnnn ~
youtube
some pro tips when playing:
throw everything off the side of the island (including the houses) -- in Twinkleby the world is your inventory, and everything you yeet into space will be returned to you
unlocking wallpapers will feel like you've uncovered a secret of the universe
evict theodore and wallis. i dare you. do it. and then live with the consequences
set the scenery to night + rain + starry backdrop to achieve the ultimate escapist relaxation mode ~
also!! if you have feedback (or find bugs) please ping me in the comments here or in an ask, and i'll make sure we look into it. we're releasing the game later this year, so any input is appreciated <3
#so excited to have y'all play it!!#and!! if you build any cool or cute or horriffic or lynchian islands please tag me or send them to me#i wanna hear all about your twinkleby adventures#twinkleby#indie games#cozy games#game development#steam games#game demo#Youtube

hahaha, fantastic! genuinely think that few things compare to game dev in this regard. there are so many instances of normal conversations consisting of things like: "we just enabled crying, so make sure everyone weeps and wails if you evict them" and "the couch thinks its a person, that's probably what's causing the issue"
top ten favorite quotes from development thus far is when our animator said "today i'm going to skin the woman" and our admin guy followed up with "okay, well, today i'm not going to skin anything"
