Almost every call to Nisha was in the evening or the weekend. But the 13th call was an exception because it was during the day. So it is unlikely that Adnan was the one making that call as it would cost money. The fact that Jay was not familiar with the phone actually increases the likelihood that it was a butt dial. I think by now, if you read my blog on a regular basis, you will know that I like things. I love books, jewellery, music, food and notebooks. This post is a selection of the ten things that I am currently enjoying the most. Just to inject a little lightness back into our lives after last weeks post…I am going to talk about my frivolous spending habit.

Just before Christmas my father decided that we needed a Sonos speaker in our lives, so went out and bought the Play5 the same night. I cannot tell you how good this speaker is as well as receiving a years free subscription to Deezer when you buy any Sonos speaker. We have spent many a night since listening to music until the small hours with no sign of distortion, no matter how loud you play it. If you’re looking for a good quality wireless speaker and you are willing to spend a little more on it, I cant recommend the Sonos Play5 highly enough. (You must listen to Phil Collins – In the air tonight, they were made for each other).

Stampers. I love stationary and I’ve been looking for a decent alphabet stamp set that also comes with an ink pad for ages and then I found one. Tiger was the place that realised my dreams and had this awesome wooden stamp set with a black and red ink pad for a whole foursterlingpounds. Bargain! I love it and I’m finding it hard not to use it to write everything.

This year I have decided to learn more stuff. I like learning and I don’t do enough of it these days. So, why not give French a go. I was fairly good, (and in the top French class at school…although I have no idea how) so I thought I would give it a try once more. Thanks to the app Duolingo, my french has come on leaps and bounds in such a short period of time. With bite size chunks you can get stuck into and stutus bars that slowly go down over time so you have to go back and refresh yourself to keep the bars full. The app gets you to translate English into French and vise versa but it also works with your mobile microphone and gets you to practise speaking your chosen language too. There are so many languages you can choose from to learn from Spanish to Swedish, Ukranian to German. If you have been looking to take up another language, I would highly recommend you do it with Duolingo.

The Body Finder series by Kimberly Derting. This set of books follows Violet Ambrose, who has a rather morbid gift…she can find dead people. When Violet is near a dead person who has been murdered and not yet laid to rest, they give off an echo. This can be in the form of noise, smell or visionary, but once Violet has caught on, she cannot rest until the body has been found and buried. With a serial killer on the loose in the first book the story moves at a fast pace and its easy to get swept up in all the mystery and teenage drama over her best friend Jay. I am just finishing the second book, and whilst not as fast paced as the first book, it is still a good/easy read. I am hoping for a little more action in the third book though.

I have a serious macaroon addiction. Yes, they should be covered in liquid gold for the price they want to charge, but you will understand if you have ever had one of these beautifully coloured, crispy fluffy clouds. Julien Plumart‘s are my absolute favourites with flavours such as rose, red berries and violet and salted caramel to name a few. The perfect decadent treat to transport you to Paris in the nineteentwenties…or maybe that’s just me.

I got a two month free trial of Amazon Prime Instant, which is probably the last thing I needed, given my infatuation with Netflix. However, with Weeds having made the move across to Amazon a while back I never got to finish the saga or fill my Hunter Parish and Guillermo Diaz fix. I had to stop watching the girls a few seasons back now, but I was soon buried deep in the mysteries of A. Currently wading my way through House we are now on season six, and I love Hugh Laurie a little more each day. A family friend has been telling me I should watch Hostages for ages, so when I saw it pop up on Amazon I took the plunge and I am completely caught up in all the conspiratorial mayhem and intertwining story lines. The premise is fairly obvious each day of the year has a different question and 5 opportunities to answer the same question on the same day each year for 5 years, whether consecutive or not. This is a true story and all the accounts you hear are real too. I cannot tell you how good this is and how I need everyone I know to listen to it so we can discuss it in depth, all of the time! I have even gone as far as to download podcasts of other people discussing it to hear their opinions too.

I'm having trouble understanding why h/w acceleration is not supported for my graphics card. I have an 'Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family' internal card. Firefox says 'Blocked for your graphics driver version' under troubleshooting information. I'm running Firefox 18 beta under Win8x64. So, here's the trouble. When i was running Windows7x64, h/w acceleration was available only under chrome & that was limited too. I never really complained because i understood my card was about 5 years old. When i moved to Windows8, i was planning on getting a new graphics card, but to my surprise Intel had released new drivers for this version of windows & suddenly i was getting full acceleration under IE & Chrome & Adobe flash is also playing h/w accelerated videos. It would be helpful if someone could tell me why only Firefox seems to have a problem.

The Larghetto, too, is quintessentially Vivaldi. Like bookends, the full orchestra’s statements at the beginning and end enclose the soloists’ vocal-inspired melodiousness. The “bookends” consist merely of a brief bass line, which becomes a repeated cycle over which the soloists spin out free variations.

In the Presto finale, orchestra and soloists work together closely to give us a movement based on a multi-part ritornello theme. It all fits tightly together, with snippets of the theme launching brilliant passages from the soloists, until the close — which will leave many of us hungry for more.

As reported by The Daily Wire on Tuesday, leftists went full-crazy at Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing and, among other insane things, smeared a woman sitting behind Kavanaugh as a white supremacist. The internet erupted with conspiracy theories that Zina Bash, a former Kavanaugh clerk, flashed a “white power” sign, apparently giving a nod and wink to her white supremacist, Kavanaugh-supporting brethren. (In reality, she randomly rested her right hand on left arm, but TRUMP!)

Twitter can be an ugly place, but sometimes it’s more than just vitriol and 280-character insults.

A Houston-area nonprofit that delivers meals to kids in need was paralyzed by a winter storm. But a viral tweet from Mamaroneck activist Amy Siskind jumpstarted the organization back into action.

Siskind, who became a nationally recognized member of the so-called resistance to the Trump administration, posted on her social media accounts Feb. 18 urging followers to help Texans through donations, including to the group Kids Meals Inc.

She hadn’t realized at first that the tweet to her 517,000 followers or a related Facebook post had caught fire.

“It’s probably the best thing that I’ve been able to do with my social media accounts,” said Siskind, who has used her platform for organizing and raising money for political donations. “Not knowing that this was happening was just, it blew me away all the more.”

Kids Meals organizers said within 15 minutes of the tweet the organization had received more than 60 donations, some of them sizable. In little more than a week, the group said it received more than 6,000 donations and raised over $1 million in total.

“We were a small nonprofit doing big work and now thanks to people like her, it’s just incredible, we became a household name,” said Beth Harp, the organization’s CEO.

Kids Meals volunteers deliver more than 6,000 meals to children living in poverty or with food insecurity in more than 40 ZIP codes around the greater Houston area. But a winter storm that knocked out power and water to much of the region had the deliveries paused for four days – the first stoppage in the organization’s 14-year history.

Thousands of prepared meals and grocery staples perished during a power outage at the Harris County headquarters of the group, a leased space with no backup electrical generator. Unsafe roads made deliveries dangerous and a supply-side crisis left the area groceries that were open with little to stock their shelves.

After the influx of donations, the group was able to resume deliveries. Volunteers facing their own hardships at home such as no power or water, went into neighborhoods ravaged by the icy weather.

Some areas suffered from burst water pipes, where water was bubbling up onto the street, Harp said.

“There was a line down the street to try to get some water from the pipes that were burst in the middle of the street,” Harp said. “It was like is this real? Is this our country? It was difficult to watch.”

The donations helped the group not only resume service, but organizers are hoping it will help the group expand in years to come with the ultimate goal being its own permanent building. She called the support of donations from around the country a “tribute to the American spirit.”

Siskind is a former Wall Streeter who rose to prominence for The Weekly List, which documented the societal changes under President Donald Trump. She said she has been pulling back from social media use since Trump left office and she ended the list.

She has been used to dodging trolls on her platforms, but this showed how people could come together for a good cause.

“That is the one nice thing about social media: having gathered together on Facebook and Twitter this group of wonderful, motivated people that care about issues and care about humanity beyond just the political side of things,” she said.
