umm, type sinpai? i was at butters stream when you were explaining about underfell but i was lurking so i couldn't ask you then but could you explain what happened to the underfell blog? you said something about the founders being underage or something but i didn't really get how that would make them leave?

Oh, I mean, I can try?? Like,,, most of this is first hand knowledge but,, I’m not 100% on all the details towards the end cuz I missed the final few posts before the blog was locked. I guess I can tell you what I know??

So, Underfell is(was?) an AU created initially by doomyz with further help from their friend ricksancheeze. (At this point in time, they’ve deleted everything off their blogs that has anything to do with the AU so please don’t go messaging them about it since I don’t think they want to be contacted about it anymore.)

When Underfell was first created, it was with designs by doomyz which you’ve all probably seen at some point. Alongside this, the creators said Underfell was basically an evil AU where everyone was out to kill you. (They laughed a lot and liked to make fun of how ~edgy~ and ~bad~ everyone was mostly hahaha) This, however, got a lot of people upset with them. They said making an AU like Underfell where everyone was inclined to be awful to each other went against what Undertale was all about—choosing love over LOVE and being compassionate above all else.

The creators took all these complaints in stride and basically said, okay that’s totally fine, don’t even worry. We take it back. Underfell doesn’t have to be evil. In fact, we’ll make it a design only AU. These are the designs we’ve started out with, and you guys are free to interpret Underfell however you want it. Go nuts! Change the designs up, make your own stories, do whatever you like!

Like this, the AU basically exploded and people started making tons of fanart and stories and just,,, wow, so much stuff. (As… you can probably still see LMAO) By now, the hub blog at the url Underfell had been created by the founders and had a couple more of their friends as mods helping run the blog. People would @ the hub blog with their fanworks and they would reblog it so that there was one place for all the Underfell stuff.

However, the problem was that one (both? I’m not completely sure which) of the creators and a few of the moderators of the blog were underage. This was bad because, with the growth of the AU, there was a lot of nsfw artwork being produced. Thanks to this, the younger members of the team no longer felt comfortable going through the Underfell tag to look for content to reblog.

To combat this issue, the team behind Underfell took a page out of Toby Fox’s book—they asked everyone to start tagging their nsfw with Underfrick instead of Underfell. People laughed a little at the name but generally thought it was a decent idea and agreed to use it. This method seemed to work pretty well despite Tumblr’s shitty tagging and so things were good for a long while.
