Fighting Games!!!
Tumblr media
Fighting games are all about skill, quick reflexes, and the thrill of combat. In this genre, players take control of a fighter and compete in one-on-one battles, often using a combination of punches, kicks, and special moves to defeat their opponents. Popular titles like Street Fighter, Tekken, and Mortal Kombat are some of the best-known examples, offering a diverse cast of characters, each with their own unique fighting styles and abilities.
Fighting games often include local or online multiplayer, where players can test their skills against others in intense, fast-paced matches. The strategy in these games is highly dependent on mastering combos, reading the opponent's moves, and timing attacks perfectly. Whether it's the precision of Street Fighter or the brutal fatalities of Mortal Kombat, fighting games offer a high-stakes competitive experience.
For those who prefer solo play, the story-driven modes or challenges in these games provide plenty of content. And for hardcore fans, the fighting game community offers tournaments, ranked matches, and dedicated esports leagues.

Sports games are the ultimate experience for anyone looking to bring their favorite athletic activities to life. Whether it’s football, basketball, soccer, or racing, this genre gives players the chance to step into the shoes of professional athletes—or even manage entire teams. Games like FIFA, NBA 2K, Madden NFL, and Gran Turismo let players compete in virtual versions of real-life sports, offering everything from one-off matches to full seasons or career modes.
What makes sports games stand out is their focus on authenticity. Real-life teams, athletes, and stadiums are faithfully recreated, offering fans a way to relive their favorite sports moments or even make their own. For example, FIFA allows players to take control of top-tier teams or manage a league, while NBA 2K adds in-depth player customization and team-building features.
For those more interested in the management side, sports simulation games let players run their own teams, making critical decisions, signing players, and climbing the ranks. These games often provide an in-depth experience that blends strategy and decision-making, while sports action games focus on gameplay and skill.

Simulation games
Tumblr media
Simulation games are all about providing players with a realistic or highly detailed recreation of certain real-world activities or experiences. Whether it's managing a theme park, farming a field, or flying a plane, simulation games allow players to live out experiences they might never get to try in real life.
One of the most popular subgenres is life simulation games (like The Sims), where players can build houses, form relationships, and navigate the ups and downs of daily life. Then there are vehicle simulators like Euro Truck Simulator, which lets players get behind the wheel of a big rig and explore the open road. Some even stretch the boundaries of reality, like Microsoft Flight Simulator, which offers a stunningly accurate representation of flying a plane across the world.
Simulation games can be relaxing, challenging, or even educational, providing an endless variety of experiences based on whatever the player enjoys. The best part? They can let you experience the impossible—like flying a spacecraft—or master the mundane—like managing a farm!

RPGs
Tumblr media
RPGs or Role Playing games are one of if not the most popular genre of video game, RPGs are usually set in a fantastical world of magic or scorcery, allowing the player to be creative and experience adventures not possible in the real world. RPGs are an escape from reality, which makes them evermore popular.
There are many types of RPGs spanning from open world quest based games(elden ring/ assasins creed) to VR potionmaking games. The possibilitys are quite literally endless, where as other types usually follow a certain pattern of either scaring you or making you think, RPGs provide an amazing variety of games, usually mixing with a few of the other genres.
RPGs call on the players imagination and creativity to thrive, and with younger people only getting more creative(mostly), RPGs have shot up the leaderboards and found their spot at the top.

Horror games!?!
Tumblr media
Horror games are a popular genre of video game that's main purpose is to scare the player, different games achive this in many ways such as soundtrack choice, video effects, or straight up monsters that chase you down.
Needless to say, there are a wide variety of horror games on the market that achive their popularity in defferent ways, some pride themselves on the ability to scare the player, others call to the player's curiosity and sense of adventure to push forward, and some are downright hilarious in the ways they try to get a jump out of the player.
On the other side of the spectrum there are pshycological horror games that have the intent of traumatizing the player and making them uneasy(DDLC). These games gain popularity almost solely based on shock factor and residual fear.

Puzzle games
Tumblr media
Puzzle games are another popular video game genre that rely on the player's pride or curiosity to drive them to continue, Puzzle games span from 2D level-based games(Tetris) to 3D worlds filled with puzzles and challenges(Supraland).
One thing that remains consistent throughout the many different games of this genre is that they make the player think, and possibly plan, to solve the many puzzles scattered throughout the game. doing so lengthens the span of the game, making it feel longer (or more worth the money if it was paid for) and gives the player a unique experience compared to most other games.
For most, puzzle games are relaxing and/or "chill fun" or a nice way to wind down, making them one of the more popular genres.

Rage Games!!!
Tumblr media
Rage Games are a highly popular genre of video games that serve the sole purpose of making the player want to stop playing. It seems counterintuitive, right? However, against all odds, these games shoot to the top of the leaderboards through the players' sense of pride.
Any good rage game will start off by introducing the player to its mechanics, whether they be extremely complicated (I am Bread) or deceptively easy (Getting Over It). They use these mechanics to prove to the player that winning IS possible, but just out of reach as these games are also known for being unforgiving. They taunt the player with victory SEEMINGLY being so easy, but in reality, being very difficult.
These games taunt and anger the player intentionally, either pushing the player to continue playing in spite of the game, or to quit deeming themselves a loser, and shattering their pride.
