Scene One:
A small neighborhood Cafe with a cozy atmosphere on a Tuesday morning with a warm fall breeze in the air. SAGE walking into a cafe looking around to spot her three friends at a table waiting for her. Walks over to them
SAGE. (sits her stuff down at the open seat next to VALERIE) Hey, I'm going to grab a coffee real quick and then we can brainstorm if you guys are ready.
VALERIE. Take your time its too early for this anyway. When you get your coffee take a look at the barista, he's fine.
CARTER. You guys are weird.
LEVINE. (Wraps one arm around Carters shoulder) You're just mad she doesn't say that about you.
(They all chuckle while Carters face turns red. Sage walks off to order her coffee.)
BARISTA. Good Morning what can I get for you
(Sage notices his Olive skin, sharp jawline, green eyes and dark messy hair and smiles)
SAGE. Hello, can I just get a Caramel cappuccino?
(Barista begins to type on his screen. Sage goes through her wallet to pull out money)
BARISTA. (Smiles with seductive eyes) It's cool, it's on the house.
SAGE. Oh my gosh? Thank you.
BARISTA. Here's that cappuccino for you, enjoy. (hands her the drink)
SAGE. (Smiles while grabbing the drink.) Thanks again! (Walks back to the table and sits)
VALERIE. What did he write on your cup? He only drew a smiley face on mine.
SAGE. (turns cup around to see the note) Oh wow. He wrote, Thank you for smiling and making the sun come out. (Blushes)
CARTER. That's actually really corny but hey I respect a man for shooting his shot. Do girls actually like stuff like that?
VALERIE. Yes but from actual hot guys. Not desperate people like you.
(LEVINE and SAGE laugh)
CARTER. That's not what you were saying last night when you were in my room all like (moans) Oh Carter don't sto…
SAGE. Okay enough. (looks around the Cafe to see if anyone's listening. VALERIE rolls her eyes) we are in public. Let's start this assignment. Does anyone have any ideas on what we can do for it yet.
LEVINE. I don't even know what the project is.
SAGE. (Sips coffee) I don't know how I got paired up with you guys. We have to write a script and create a set and also figure out what the characters will be wearing and all that. We need to first figure out what our play should be about then we can figure out the set, script and what their costumes are.
(They sit in silence for a few moments as they try to come up with ideas. An older woman next to them speaks loudly on the phone)
WOMAN. Lil Yachty? What kind of name is that? 45 minutes of who? At least Tyler the Creator will be good. (Looks over and Smiles at Sages group sitting and exchanging laughs next to her and mutes her phone.) My son is going to a concert today. I never heard of any of these people before. Are they any good?
VALERIE. I don't really listen to any of them but I do like Tyler.
LEVINE. Lil Yachty makes pretty good music.
Woman: (Unmutes her phone) the lady next to me agrees with you and says Tyler is good. (She then continues her conversation on the phone.)
(A few hours go by and they still haven't came up with anything)
CARTER. We have been here for 3 hours now and still haven't gotten anything. Can we just go back to my place and finish up there? This Cafe music sucks.
SAGE. Ugh fine, but we actually need to work once we get there. No getting distracted with other stuff. This grade is important to me and should be to you guys as well.
(They all begin to grab their stuff. Sage and Valerie grab their stuff first and head out towards the door)
LEVINE. (taps Carters shoulder to get his attention) You gotta be smart man, for real. Valerie is pretty and all but those skinny girls will get ya and destroy ya.
CARTER. Maybe I'm trying to get gotten and destroyed, you know what I mean. (winks)
LEVINE. (laughs) Trust me I do, alright let's go.
VALERIE. You guys coming?
CARTER. (Nudges LEVINE and says in a lower voice) Not yet, but I will be soon.
(LEVINE shakes his head and smiles. Everyone exits scene)

Week 7 Assignment :)
Man 1: (holding the door open) “Thank you for smiling and making the sun come out.”
Woman: (smiles)
Man 1: “Every morning Fluffy girls gather around and smile to make the sun rise. Don't ever trust a skinny woman. Bones are for dogs.”
Woman: (confused) “oh haha”
Man 2: (walking out the door) “Those skinny girls will get ya and destroy ya”
Woman (on the phone) “Lil yachtty? What kind of name is that? 45 minutes of who? At least Tyler the Creator will be good.
(Looks over at me and smiles)
Woman: “My son is going to a concert today. I never heard of any of these people before. Are they any good?”
Woman 2: “I don't really listen to either of them but I do like some of Tyler’s songs.”
Woman 1 (back on the phone) “This lady in the bathroom agrees with you and says Tyler is good.

I decided to draw Michael from the On the Exhale. Although micheal didn't physically make an appearance on stage, I still was able to imagine him while the actress told the story of micheal. The small details she gave about him was that he was excited to start 2nd grade which meant he's around 7-8 years old. The setting was also autumn soon to be winter.
With those details I decided to draw a spiderman t shirt over a long sleeve shirt since the weather would be chilly during that time of year. I specifically did a superhero shirt to signify his age but most importantly on how he believes in superheros but didn't have a hero to save come save him. I drew sweatpants because kids need comfy clothes to run around in but also because of the weather. I also considered the fact that he would be going to soccer practice afterwards and we need something comfy to either wear or to change into after practice was over. The shoes I imagined to be light up sneakers because everyone I knew at that age always loved light up shoes. I included a back pack because he's in school. I decided to add a soccor ball to it because he enjoys soccer. Green to match the soccor field but I added his name to bag to show how much his mother loves him and will spend the extra money to get his things customized because of how much he means to him. His hair i imagined to be a dirty blonde but on the darker side to match his mom's. It's on the shorter side because his mom takes him for hair cuts and cares for him unconditionally.

I choose the scene where gallimord meets Song for the first time as he watches her on stage. I choose to do a proscenium stage mostly because this is the stage that I am use to seeing when I go to watch performances. I think this is a good stage to have because I think the setting of where the play is plays a huge role in the story. With this form of stage I can do a big set that had different characteristics on it. I wanted the audience to feel as if they are watching a play on another stage as well.
I chose to set this stage on an angle. I wanted old fashion seats because the setting takes place at an opera house in the 1900s . I want Gallimord to sit in a chair where where a pinkish light is shining on him which will represent the love and admiration hes feeling towards Song. From this angle you will also be able to see his face and reaction to her. I wanted half the stage to be dark so that audience can feel as if the characters on it is watching a show. Song will be on a platformed stage with a warm yellow light on her. This will bring attention to her but also show the warmth and dreamy feeling she gives off. I want smoke to also be on the stage. This will attract different colors like red and yellow hues again to show the dreamy like effect. I decorated the stage with Chinese lanterns as well as an authentic asain vase to show off the setting. There's a flag like piece that has the word "Butterfly" written in Chinese characters. All these colors, and details will add to the plot, as well as make the audience feel and see what the characters are feeling.
