Garmin Approach S20 golf GPS watch is an entry-level unit with comprehensive golf features and the most relevant activity tracking. Garmin refrained from using the touchscreen and we like that because our sausage fingers get a break. The unique feature set and accuracy have struck a chord with the golfers. So we decided to delve deeper into an unbiased review.
Garmin Approach S20 Golf GPS Watch Reviews
A. Design
- Size and Weight:
Garmin S20 goes for an all-plastic dial design which drastically reduces its weight down to 1.6 ounces. The dial is a 0.9 sq inch square which you can easily read based on the usual font size. It is larger than the round dial of Garmin S6. The dial is made of rubber and has perforations along the whole length for sizing and ventilation.
- Display:
The Garmin S20 golf GPS watch has a negative monochrome display where the letters are displayed in grayish-white over a black background. The 128 x 128 transflective MIP screen is easy to see in sunlight because of the dark background. The font size of numbers and notations is comfortably large to read for everyone. There’s a backlight to read in the dark as well.
- Controls:
There are four low profile buttons on either side which enable you to navigate through the features. This is not a touchscreen. We found it convenient because it’s slightly easier than tapping small touchscreens and also saves battery life.
- Water-resistance:
This golf GPS watch is waterproof in up to 50m of water. So it can survive a couple of minutes in the rain until you find cover.
B. Features
- Yardages:
The Garmin Approach S20 brings you yardages to the center, front and back of the greens. You can move the flag within 9+ pre-defined points which contributes to manual pin positioning. You get yardages to the front and the back based on your angle of attack.
- Hazard distances:
The S20 golf GPS watch shows hazard and dogleg distances on par-4 and par-5 holes. A small representation tells you distance to the hazard, it position with respect to the greens and the distance from it to the green. We like how S20 handles it in such a neat way where other watches often struggle to show hazard distances unambiguously. It cannot save the locations of unmapped hazards though.
- Green View:
You get a tiny pictorial representation of the green. This brings you a small idea of the true shape and layout of the greens.
- AutoShot:
This is a new functionality wherein the S20 automatically measures the shot distance and other metrics related to the shot. It maps the distances of each club. AutoShot doesn’t always activate itself and misses collecting data on some of the shots. Since you can’t manually fill that data, Garmin S20 could do with some improvement here.
- Fitness Tracking:
The Garmin Approach has a number of activity tracking apps like sleep monitoring, Move bar inactivity alert which prompts to get on your feet often. It also measures steps and calories burned. The Garmin X40 has a few more of these fitness tracking apps like preloaded running profiles, GPS-based pace etc..
- Digital Scorecard:
The Garmin Approach S20 golf GPS watch has a digital scoring facility. It takes a few button clicks to enter the score so it might be slightly annoying but it beats using a scrap of paper. And you get to download the score to Garmin Connect and share with your golf buddies.
- Smart Notifications:
The Garmin S20 can display the alerts from your smartphones when connected to it via Bluetooth. Instead of showing a text message alert, it can show the text of the message, a real feat for golf watches. We like not having to run back to our phones to check the messages.
- TruSwing compatible:
The S20 watch is compatible with Garmin TruSwing Swing analyzer accessory. We connected the TruSwing to the clubs and the watch and voila! We could see real-time swing data measurement on the watch eliminating the need for another device.
- Garmin Connect:
You can download Autoshot and other information from the Garmin S20 watch to another device and analyze it to find trends and correct your game. You can also share your progress with the Garmin golf community.
- Battery:
The battery of Garmin S20 golf GPS watch lasts through 15 hours which roughly translates to 3 rounds of golf. We are mighty impressed with that. It lasts one month on normal watch mode. You get a charging clip to charge this device.
- Accuracy:
The Garmin S20 has proved to be very accurate within 2-3 yards of the distance. It consistently maintains this streak since the software updates and that’s why it’s one of Garmin’s best selling units.
Garmin Approach S20 Golf GPS Watch manual
For a general use, the Garmin Approach S20 golf GPS watch is conveniently executed. The buttons are tactile and the screen is large enough for viewing. The button pushes required for certain functions could be reduced. This becomes more of a problem because of the lack of guidance in the user manual. Garmin should have been thorough. The GPS satellites lock in about average time. There are 40,000 pre-loaded courses. As usual, Garmin doesn’t charge you for updating the course database. The Autoshot feature causes some distress since you can’t manually add the data at every shot. The feature set of Garmin S20 toes the right balance of sufficient functionality and usability. The debate on touchscreen is still out. While some people like that they don’t have to fiddle with a touchscreen in S20, others are much more used to the touchscreen and prefer it over the buttons.
Social Proof
The Garmin Approach S20 golf GPS watch garnered rave reviews from the users because of its simple but highly responsive operation. There were some hiccups with the software freezing but that dialed down after they were updated. Users have lauded the accuracy and the general ease of use of S20. The operation through button was the major selling point. But the main USP is that S20 delivers well on the popular features. The extended activity tracking abilities also got a good reception because it doesn’t clutter up with other sports that the golfer might not be interested in. Compare S20 with other best golf GPS watches
Conclusion
The Garmin Approach S20 golf GPS watch is a well-executed entry level watch. It has its specific strengths which are difficult to find together in another device. Bushnell Neo Ion golf GPS watch is the proven flagship of the Bushnell golf GPS watch line. This unit has the most important yardages and relevant convenience features. It avoids extra heft and complications by discouraging unnecessary functionalities that golfers are unlikely to use. Instead, NEO Ion is a simple, comfortable and affordable device. It brings great value for money. It’s a great toy for leisure golfer, new GPS converts who want straightforward distances, or those who need a basic golf GPS to augment their pro laser rangefinders.
Features & Benefits
The Bushnell Neo Ion golf GPS watch is a distinctive package of design and features:
Design of Bushnell NEO Ion golf GPS Watch:
- Dimensions:
Compared to the Bushnell NEO XS Golf GPS Watch, the Neo weighs a measly 1.8 ounces and rests effortlessly on the wrist while swinging. The circular watch face has a total circumference of 45mm. But the square dial only occupies half the space. The rest has markings in contrast color.
- Screen:
This golf GPS watch has a square screen with black characters against a white background. The screen in backlit for low light. In bright light, you can easily make out the characters. The screen is flanked by 5 buttons, 3 on the right and 2 on the left.
- Strap:
Bushnell Neo Ion has one of the most comfortable silicone bands that we’ve had the fortune to test. This dual-injected silicone strap is pocked with holes which allow us to adjust the fitment for all wrist sizes. It’s also super-breathable and makes soft contact with the skin.
- Accessories:
This unit comes with a charging clip. This clip goes at the back of the watch dial while charging. The clip is easy to attach or remove. The other end of the cable is a USB jack which can plug into a wall adapter or your laptop.
Customer reviews on Amazon
Features of Bushnell NEO Ion golf GPS Watch:
- Hole Information:
The Bushnell Neo Ion golf GPS watch displays distance in a hard-to-miss manner. The distance to the center of the greens is prominently placed in the middle of the screen. The distance to the front and back of the greens is below this figures. The hole number is displayed at the top left corner and par information is on the top right corner.
- Hazard Information:
This watch shows up to 4 hazards or layup distances per hole. It has an interesting way of presenting the information. The hazard is represented by acronyms which you will have to remember. The distances are displayed next to the acronym. These are fairly easy like LFB for Left Fairway Bunker. Since only the closest hazards are mapped, you might be at a loss at particularly “hazard-ous” courses.
- Tee Time function:
You can set your tee time and day many days in advance. The Neo Ion turns on the GPS exactly 7 minutes before the tee time. It starts locating the nearest courses. You simply have to select the right one from the list and you can start playing. We found this feature especially since we often forget to turn on the GPS on time. Then we have to wait around while the Golf Mode kick starts.
- Auto Off:
This is another great feature for forgetful golfers like us. Setting an auto-off period will automatically switch the GPS of Neo Ion off after the stipulated time. This way, the watch doesn’t run out of charge simply because you omitted this task. Between this feature and the Tee Time feature, this is pretty much a hands-free unit.
- Automatic functions:
This is further aided by the auto course recognition function. Once the GPS is switched on, it automatically finds the courses closest to you as a list. You can pick from the list if there are more than one. It also offers automatic hole advance. This way, it moves to the next hole as soon as you are done with the current. No need to manually change the hole number.
- Shot Tracking:
The Neo Ion offers shot distance measurement. You can find the shot distance instantly but there’s no way to record and track the distances for future reference.
- Course coverage/Updates:
This Bushnell golf GPS watch comes pre-loaded with 35,000 courses worldwide, the iGolf database that all Bushnell devices use. It might not have some small local courses. It locates your course and provides options of holes you might play in this ground: 1-9, 10-18 or 19-27. There’s no subscription fee for course updates, so the total ownership cost remains the price at which you bought it.
- Battery Life:
One important advantage of not stuffing features into the Neo Ion golf watch is that it increases battery life. It can easily last 4 rounds of the game. We estimated 16 hours of normal golf use with GPS on. Of course, this figure varies with individual use.
- Miscellaneous:
This Bushnell GPS watch packs a pedometer to counts steps. It also has an odometer to calculate the distance travelled. Between these two activity tracking tasks, you can evaluate cycling, running and walking. It makes for a nice uncomplicated fitness tracker. This watch is water-resistant, so it can take a few drops of rain until you find cover. Bushnell offers a 1-year warranty on this unit.
- Speed and Accuracy:
We loved how fast the Neo Ion golf GPS watch works. It’s clear of the other functions that clutter the startup time. The GPS locked in on the satellites and located the closest courses within 30 seconds which are slightly faster than average. The Tee Time feature takes this delay out of the equation as well. This watch is extremely and consistently accurate. It displays readings within 1-3 yards of the actual distance. Most importantly, we got similar results every time we counter-checked the distance with our Bushnell Neo XS Golf GPS Watch.
- Scorecards:
There are NO scoring functions in this watch. If you are not satisfied with the Neo Ion, check out our reviews on Bushnell Golf GPS Watches and Handhelds.
Conclusion
The Bushnell Neo Ion Golf GPS watch is a simplistic and reasonably priced unit that you can rely on for fast, accurate distances. It serves low-handicap to high-handicap golfers who want just the relevant features and ease of use. This Callaway Golf GPSy review dwells into this extremely accurate and affordable watch. Its particular set of features satisfies both tech-savvy and tech-novice golfers. It’s one of our best golf GPS watches for the year.
Features & Benefits of Callaway GPSy Golf GPS Watch
We found the feature set of Callaway Golf GPSy watch very interesting. It has executed the basic functions to be easy and accurate. But you have access to a wider range of features like scoring with fewer button presses. It is not cluttered by the more advanced features of Garmin S6. Here’s what our tests found:
Design of Callaway GPSy Golf GPS Watch
- Body:
Although slightly clunky, you can easily get used to the design of GPSy. It runs 10 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. It weighs only 2.24 ounces. We expected it to be heavy but it never impeded our swing. You can wear it and forget it’s there. The strap has a horizontal pattern which gives it a nice rugged look. The watch band will fit wrists of all sizes. This is water-resistant watch and can take water splashes. It shouldn’t be submerged in water though.
- Dial:
This golf GPS watch has a 1.28” screen. While it’s large enough, we think it could have utilized more space on the watch face. There are three navigation buttons on the right edge and a power button on the left. There are magnetic dots on the side for charging.
- Display:
The display is negative with white characters on a black screen. It’s sunlight-readable at all light levels. This is not a touchscreen device like Garmin S6.
- Options:
The Callaway Golf GPSy is available in two colors: All black and a white/neon green combination. Both are good-looking standalone. However, they may look huge on petite wrists.
- Charger:
This golf watch comes with a magnetic charging dock. It magnetically attaches to the four dots on the left side of the watch.
Features of Callaway GPSy Golf GPS Watch
- Yardages:
GPSy displays yardages in a very appealing format. On the top right corner, you have the distance to the center of the greens in a large font. In the middle line, to the left, you have a small schematic of the greens with the hole position. The distance to the front and back of the greens are in a smaller font next to it. The bottom line shows battery status and time. The top left corner shows the par information and hole number.
- Hazard distances:
The Callaway GPSy watch tells hazards and dogleg distances also. On this screen, you have small graphics of the hazard type on the left side and distances on the right. A feature we really appreciate is that it gives both layups and carry distances to the back of the hazards. This is rarely incorporated in affordable golf GPS watches which focus only on layup distances. If you are not satisfied with the Callaway GPSy Golf GPS Watch, check out our reviews on GolfBuddy Voice GPS.
- Scoring:
The GPSy golf GPS watch has score tracking functions. The scorekeeping function tracks the score, Greens In Regulation and Putts per Round. There’s a simple statistics tracking screen as well. For those who want simplistic scoring function, this is both intuitive and enough. Cramming advanced scoring functions makes the whole feature buggy, in our experience.
- Shot Distance:
In the Shot distance mode, you can measure and save the shot distances for each swing. Knowing this will help select the right club for future shots.
- Automatic functions:
When switched on and navigate to the Golf mode, the GPSy golf GPS watch takes a minute to lock into the satellites and display list of recognized courses nearby. You can select the one you are playing at. It also advances through holes automatically. So you can pretty much play hands-free and still get all the basic yardages.
- Accuracy:
The GPSy impressed up with its accuracy. It was always 1 yard within the distances recorded by our Bushnell laser rangefinder. More importantly, the distances were consistently correct. The satellites remained connected after they were first located.
- Course coverage:
This Callaway golf GPS watch comes preloaded with 30,000 courses worldwide. There’s no subscription fee for updating course information. So the initial buying price is the total cost of ownership.
- Battery:
The GPSy averages 10 hours battery life in a single charge in Golf Mode. If you only use it for viewing time, it will last up to 90 days on Time Mode.
- Miscellaneous:
The Callaway GPSy golf GPS watch packs an odometer which provides you with the distance you walked. It’s an easy method of tracking your activity while golfing. It shows time in both analog and digital modes, unlike most Golf watches which go only digital. Time and date are set automatically when it received signals from the satellite. This watch doesn’t connect to smartphones or show notifications. It’s not Bluetooth-enabled.
FAQ's:
1. Where can I find Callaway GPSy Watch course list?
The list of all the courses available in Callaway Distance Measuring Devices Database is available at http://www.callawaydmd.com/course-library
The list is not presented well but it’s functional.
2. Where I find Callaway GPSy Watch manual?
The user manual and update tools of all the Callaway rangefinder devices can be found at http://www.callawaydmd.com/product-support
Updates can only be done on Windows PC.
3. How can I update Callaway GPSy Watch?
Some functions like scoring might not be immediately available on the menu. You can contact the Callaway customer support. They send you the link and instructions to update the firmware and achieve the function.
Conclusion
The Callaway GPSy golf GPS watch is a solid investment. It provides the most relevant features along with some leeway for scoring and statistics. Izzo, the OEM, has focused on executing the basic functions well so that they add real value to the product. It is also the best golf watches in this price range. The consistent display of actual yardages and strong connection to GPS made it invaluable to our game. Source: https://www.ubergolf.net/callaway-golf-gpsy-review/

The GolfBuddy PT4 golf GPS rangefinder is hit-and-miss. If you can make your peace with certain operational issues, you might enjoy the ultra-large screen of this unit and all the great features that are similar to Garmin G6. Although this is not one of our best handheld golf GPS rangefinders, it’s definitely worth a look.
Design & Features of GolfBuddy PT4 Golf GPS/Rangefinder Reviews
We were intrigued by both the design and features of the GolfBuddy PT4 golf GPS rangefinder. We review both here.
Design of GolfBuddy PT4 Golf GPS/Rangefinder:
- Body:
The PT4 reminds us of an iPhone 5S and indeed when we put one next to it, they looked almost similar. It packs its huge screen in a 5” body. At 0.59 inch thickness and 2.7 inches width, it’s as handy as a modern smartphone. It weighs only 5.4 ounces so you carry it around on your cart or pocket. The body is water-resistant but not completely waterproof so we wouldn’t dunk it in water.
- Display:
This GolfBuddy golf GPS handheld has a 4” screen. By contrast, one of our best golf GPS, Garmin G8 has only a 3” screen. Everything looks slightly clearer and more discernible on the larger screen. Golfers with sausage fingers like us also find it easier to pinpoint the screen. It has a color TFT LCD screen which is bright enough for normal lighting. But it can get a little difficult to read in very bright sunlight. There are many zooming options which makes it more convenient to read than the Garmin G6.
- Touch:
The PT4 responds to commands via a capacitive touchscreen. It is faster than the previous version, GolfBuddy Platinum. But it’s still not as responsive as smartphones. So we recommend some patience while operating it. The screen freeze is a complaint we hear occasionally from PT4 users. There’s a power button on the left edge which also functions as a Screen Lock.
- Accessories:
This golf GPS comes with a USB cable and a wall adapter for charging. A cradle is also included which can be used to hoist it on the cart. Or you can use it to cover the screen of the unit when it’s not in use. The manual runs 46 pages long so you have everything spelled out for you. Since the functions are marginally more complicated than the Garmin devices, we took the manual to the course.

Features of GolfBuddy PT4 Golf GPS/Rangefinder:
- Yardages:
The main screen of GolfBuddy PT4 golf GPS rangefinder shows a complete representation of the hole with the distance to the center of the greens prominently displayed on the top right corner. It also shows some layup arcs along with options to zoom into the view.
- Hazards:
We clicked the Target tab at the bottom of the main screen and it pulled up front and back distances to the bunkers. You can decide easily whether you want to layup or carry the ball with your swing and selected club.
- Touch Targeting:
You can find the distances to any point on the hole by touching and creating a target there. You can zoom into a spot and place the target there to get distances. When the target is placed, it shows you your distance to it and the distance from it to the hole. If you want to remove the market, you have to wait for 5s for it to turn blue and then tap the screen. It’s not a clean process but we are glad it exists.
- Green View:
The PT4 golf rangefinder offers a vivid Green View. It dynamically changes the front and back yardages based on your angle of approach to the green. There’s a Grid View for the greens as well which lays a grid over the greens for visualization and shows the distances in a larger font.
- Pin positioning:
Much like touch targeting, you can move the Flag around in the Green View. This will automatically change the center, front and back yardages. We found this feature very helpful on greens with unusual designs which we couldn’t visualize from a distance.
- Scoring:
The GolfBuddy PT4 golf GPS allows scoring for up to 4 players. You can access the Scoring function right from the main screen. Although it does ask you to select which nine holes you are playing. It stores the scores and also helps you track your progress over a period of time when connected to a computer. You can transfer the score to your PC via a USB connection.
- Statistics Tracking:
You can record and track stats for one person on the PT4 golf GPS. Here you can input Putts, Greens In Regulation, Fairway Hits and Misses and sand saves. While we love having the statistics part, we were again annoyed by the length of access sequences.
- Battery:
The battery lasts for 2 rounds of golf or a little over 8 hours. It takes 3 hours to charge it to full Meanwhile Garmin G8 can chug out at least 3 rounds. An unexpected perk is that PT4’s battery is replaceable.
- Course Coverage:
This GolfBuddy GPS handheld comes preloaded with over 37,000 courses worldwide. There’s no subscription fee for updating the course database or using it. You can select your course from the list using a Search Box instead of scrolling through the whole thing.
- Languages:
The PT4 is a multilingual device with the menu in 8 different languages.
MORE: Golf Buddy GPS Reviews 2018
Conclusion
The GolfBuddy PT4 golf GPS rangefinder is a mixed bag of pros and cons. On the one hand, they have some excellent features. But the operation itself is not completely glitch-free. The large screen and smooth zooming made us look at it twice. The scoring function and fast touch response also redeemed it. If you are looking for a break from Garmin and need a tournament-legal highly viewable touchscreen, this could be the right pick for you.

https://www.ubergolf.net/golfbuddy-voice-gps-reviews/GolfBuddy Voice GPS is one of the most inexpensive golf GPS in the market right now. And it has a funky feature. It speaks out the distances. There’s a literally a little voice calling out the yardages and hole numbers in your ears. It’s a cool feature that has remained intriguing since its debut in the Voice GPS. This is the most basic model in the Voice line-up and perfect for golfers who give in to the temptation of playing only occasionally.
Design & Features of GolfBuddy Voice GPS
1. Design of GolfBuddy Voice GPS:
- Body:
The Voice GPS has a small petite body. It’s a small square tablet of 1.68 inch sides and 0.43 inch depth. At 29g, you barely feel the weight of this device. The edges are beveled and somewhat immune to damage. Half of the front face is covered by a screen. There are buttons accessible around the body. There’s a clip at the back to latch this unit to the belt, visor or any other place you prefer. Most golfers go for the belt.
- Screen:
The GolfBuddy Voice GPS has a backup for the little voice. There’s a black-and-white screen on the top half which shows distance and other info. This is sunlight-readable in all lights. The screen is backlit and it flashes while it’s charging.
- Controls:
The Main button is on the front face below the screen. This is a multifunction button. On the left edge, you have the power and position mark buttons. The other side has the volume buttons. There’s a USB port on the right edge for charging.
MORE: Best Golf GPS Reviews: Top Rated Watches and Handhelds Devices 2018
- Accessories:
The Voice GPS comes with a micro-USB cable for charging it. Fortunately, they also supply an AC wall adapter, so you have a spare at hand. Another accessory that we really appreciated is the silicone protective case which offsets the abuse doled out by regular use at the course.
You also transform it into a watch with the purchase of accessories such as a wristband. It has two basic colors: black/white.
2. Features of GolfBuddy Voice GPS:
- Yardages Voice:
The GolfBuddy Voice GPS has speaks out the distances. At every hole, it announces the Hole number and yardage to the center. For the distances to the front and back of the greens, you need to press the Menu button which cycles through these. This is not the most intuitive method of listening to the distances but it works smoothly. We limited our use to center yardages or distance in meters alone.
- Yardages Screen:
If you want to completely turn off the Voice feature, you can read the distances on the screen, a rare feature in an entry-level voice GPS rangefinder. The distances are provided up till points 10 yards within the border of the greens. Pressing the menu button will cycle through the distances to the front and rear edges.
- Hole View:
There are two major screens in GolfBuddy Voice GPS. In the Green View, you see the distance to the center of the greens. Next to it is a small generic representation of the green. This is to show the relative position of the pin on the green. On the top left corner, you see the hole number. On the far right, you have the battery status. Next, to it, you see an ‘M’ symbol if you have selected meters for distances.
- Green View:
The Green View gives a rough graphic of the greens based on the angle of approach. Though it’s more accurate than the graphic in the Hole View, we still didn’t find it very useful. There’s the hole number and Par Score to the left. The right side has the satellite signal strength.
- Shot Distance Measurement:
The Shot distance measurement starts with two button presses and can be ended manually as you finish walking to your target. Once the measurement ends, the distance is announced and displayed on the screen as well. You can go to different screen during shot distance measurement.
- Automatic functions:
Once you start the GolfBuddy Voice GPS, it will automatically lock satellites and recognize the course, but only if you are at the course. The startup is fast. The Voice gives an audio alert once the course is recognized. It also advances the hole automatically once the golfer reaches the Teebox. The hole number is announced.
- Course Coverage:
The Voice GPS comes preloaded with 40,000 courses. It’s pretty comprehensive with worldwide course coverage.
- Accuracy:
This voice GPS claims average accuracy within 2-3 yards of the actual distance. It’s not a tournament-ready unit in this sense.

GolfBuddy Voice GPS instructions
Although a simple device from the looks of it, the GolfBuddy Voice GPS required a small setup process. You can use it right out of the pack but we wanted to have the courses and firmware updated. Both these functions are possible via the PC-based update tool, GolfBuddy Course Manager Software. You have to download it from the GolfBuddy website. It takes a nominal amount of time.
Once downloaded and install, you must register your device. It takes 10-15 minutes because GolfBuddy is very thorough and demands a lot of info. But once done, you can update the course database on your device. You can also update the device firmware.
If you are not satisfied with the GolfBuddy Voice GPS, check out our reviews on Izzo Swami 5000 Golf GPS Units or GolfBuddy Voice 2 GPS
FAQ's:
What’s the battery life of GolfBuddy Voice GPS?
GolfBuddy claims a battery life of 9 hours per charge. It made through two 18-hole rounds with us but just barely.
What’s the Total Ownership Cost of GolfBuddy Voice?
GolfBuddy does not charge a subscription fee for access to the course database. So the price of the device is your only expense.
Conclusion
The GolfBuddy Voice GPS is a simple voice-enabled rangefinding device. It clips on to the belt/visor and almost disappears from your peripheral vision while whispering yardages to you. The basic information is provided literally hands-free as your progress through the course. But we missed the hazard distances in Voice GPS much. The Voice 2 takes on this challenge. Still, the clean interface of the Voice is worth a look.

Features & Benefit of Izzo Swami Sport GPS Unit
The Izzo Swami Sport golf GPS fills in for a very fundamental device that gives you the distances to the greens without any effort. We checked one out and examined its design and features in some depth.
Design of Bushnell Neo Ghost GPS
- Body:
The Sport GPS is a small handheld device. It’s a curvaceous little table that measures 3.25 inches in height and 2.4 inches in width at the widest point. It’s less than half-an-inch thick. It weighs only 3.2 ounces. The top side has a hole through which you can thread a carabineer clip to hang it off the golf bag. The rest of the space is taken up by a screen and the logos.
- Screen:
This Izzo golf GPS has a 1.8-inch black and white screen. It is quite clear to read with numbers and letter displayed in large font. It is backlit for visibility in light and dark. The screen has both regular and negative display. In the regular display, it shows black characters on a white screen. In the negative display mode, you have white letters on a black screen, a useful feature in stark sun and darkness. Overall, it’s very easy to read the screen even when the unit is placed on the cart or the bag.
- Controls:
The entire operation of the Izzo Swami Sport golf GPS is handled by four buttons. Of these, one is a Power button, two are for up/down scrolling through the options and one is for selecting an option. The operation is fairly straightforward with these.
- Color options:
Although the screen color and logo remains same on all pieces, the Sport GPS is available in four colors: lime green, orange, yellow and grey in combinations with black. We liked the colored pieces as they are easy to dig out of a golf bag.
- Accessories:
It only comes with a carabiner clip and a USB cable for charging. You can either connect it to a wall adapter, which is commonly available around the house, or to a laptop/PC.
Features of Bushnell Neo Ghost GPS
- Distances:
The Swami Sport golf GPS provides only distances to the greens. The distance to the center of the greens is displayed on the top in a large font. The bottom shows distances to the front and back in smaller fonts.
The Swami 4000+ adds hazard distances to the spec which has become one of the essential features. There’s no shot distance measurement either in the Sport golf GPS spec. Like we discussed earlier, this is a basic device.
- Auto Course Recognition:
This golf GPS handheld automatically recognizes the course you are on once you switch it on. It displays a list of the nearest courses based on your location when you switch it on. The connection and course display process take about a minute which is average.
- Course subscription:
The Izzo Swami Sport golf GPS comes preloaded with 30,000 courses worldwide. They cover most of the local courses in the US. Izzo does not charge you any subscription fee for access to the coursemap database. So the total cost of ownership is the price of the unit.
- Battery:
This GPS handheld boasts of an 8-hour battery life per charge. You can get through 2 rounds on this charge. Newer golf GPS units average 12-hour battery lives, so we were a little disappointed by this parameter. It can be plugged in for charge via the micro-USB port at the bottom.
- Accuracy:
The advantage of most Izzo golf GPS devices is their consistent accuracy. The distances displayed by the swami Sport GPS were always within 2-3 yards. And it maintained this streak of success throughout our gameplay as opposed to many glitchy GPS devices that we have used.
- Manual Hole Advance:
Unlike most GPS devices, the Izzo Swami Sport golf GPS enables only manual hole advance. You get used to clicking the next button after one or two holes. This is a handy feature when you accidentally swing the golf ball into a different fairway. The better design decision here would have been incorporating automatic hole advance with an option to turn it off.
Izzo Swami Sport Setup
The Izzo Swami Sport golf GPS can be debuted on the course right out of the box, provided it has charge. We charged it for our first game. Once turned on, it automatically acquires the GPS signal. It displays a list of courses nearby your location. You can pick the one you are going to play and get started.
There are other settings for power and brightness. You can pick between yards and meters as units of measurement. You can also adjust sleep time for the screen. It has options to change daylight savings settings as well. All screens show time and battery level.
Conclusion
The Izzo Swami Sport golf GPS is a simplistic device meant to display only the distances to the greens. One might wonder why we can’t simply use a free smartphone app to find distances. Most golfers want to stay away from phones at least on the course. Also, it’s easier to take this small handheld instead of the expensive smartphone out in the sun and rain. As always Izzo dazzles with its ease of operation and intuitive interface. For more similar devices, check out our best golf GPS reviews or Izzo Swami Golf GPS Brands.

Garmin Approach G6 golf GPS course is the best full-fledged tournament legal handheld device. G6 is a touchscreen golf GPS handheld. Its compact construction makes it much more portable than a laser rangefinder.
The battery of Garmin Approach G6 holds on for 15 hours per charge. If they could clear out the small bugs in its functioning with a thorough testing, Garmin Approach G6 could easily dominate the market.
Here is our review of factors pros and cons of Garmin Approach G6 golf GPS
Design & Features of Garmin Approach G6 golf GPS course reviews
Garmin Approach G6 looks like a little more evolved smartphone than the G5. It has some glossy surfaces thrown in with 2 ounce reduction in weight from G5. Its screen measures 2.6 inch across. On the whole it is 0.8 inch thick and weighs 3.4 ounces. A golf GPS watch weighs 2 ounces on the average. Compared to that, G6 is practically skinny and underweight.
Most of the functionality is controlled by the touchscreen in Garmin Approach G6. The power button resides on the left side.
- Course detail and mapping:
More than 25,000 courses come preloaded on Garmin Approach G6. You need to install their course-updating software which detects your device and downloads the latest course maps. Course detailing has been painstakingly handled by Garmin. When you turn, the View on the screen will turn with you. You can zoom in to look at a specific point. Garmin technology decides when to display particular distances.
- Distance Information:
Distance to the center of the green is displayed on the top right corner. You might face some trouble while moving the flag around because it hides under your finger. Garmin Approach G8 remedies this problem by displaying the flag over your finger when you move it.
- Custom course details:
You can add your own target points on the course map on Garmin Approach G6. You can see them in the Hole View when they are in and around the hole.
- Statistics Tracking:
As a more basic version of the G8’s functionality, Garmin G6 has statistics tracking ability too. It can store the scores for up to 4 golfers.
Garmin G6 vs G7, G8 comparison
The Garmin G6 is the most advanced yet certainly USGA-compliant handheld in Garmin line-up right now. Both Garmin G7 and G8 bring in slope-adjusted distances which might not go down well with tournament authorities. But they great aids while improving your game. G7 also added club recommendation, another forbidden feature. You get smartphone notifications on G7 along with Big Number mode for viewing yardages in larger font. While all these features of G7 excite the tech geeks and make your gameplay easier, Garmin G6 remains the unequivocally legal Garmin golf GPS for tournaments where Local Rule applies. So choosing between the two is a question of whether you will use them for competitions or not and your budget.
Garmin G6 Golf GPS Course manual
Garmin golf GPS devices are generally easy to set up. Garmin Approach G6 is no different. You have to install the CourseView Updater software from Garmin’s website. It takes less than a minute. There’s no registration process. Once you plug in the device using the accompanying USB cable, Garmin will prompt you to update the courses, if necessary. It is a simple process that won’t fail even for a novice techie. Once you reach the golf course, it will give you a list of the closest courses in order of distance. You can select the correct golf course from here and head for your game.
The response of touchscreen decides how your golf GPS device utilizes player’s time. Thankfully, Garmin Approach G6 has a sensitive screen that responds fast to your touch. Except for moving around the flagstick, every other screen movement is smooth. You can lock the screen when it is not in use. You will be playing with the Hole View and Green View on the screen. The Hole View shows a virtual display of the hole and when it applies, shows the layup arcs. Green View shows the greens and hazards. You can place the flagstick at any point on it and the Hole View will change accordingly.
Other Perks
- Accuracy:
Garmin G6 maintains the accuracy level we usually get from their devices. It tells the yardages with 3-4 yards uncertainty. This performance also depends on map accuracy. If the Garmin database has an old map, that has not been corrected yet, the distances will be off.
- Auto Hole Advance:
Garmin Approach G6 automatically advances to the next hole when you approach the next teebox. However, you have the option to switch this off and do it manually.
- Screen Brightness:
The screen of Garmin Approach G6 is usually bright enough to be visible on sunny days. You can change the brightness to suit your needs.
- Shot Measurement:
You have the option to measure your shot distances on G6.
- Club Averages:
Garmin Approach G6 lets you enter your shot distances with each club. This will help you estimate how far you can hit the ball with each club. This information comes in handy whenever you are trying to decide which club to use.
- Waterproof:
Garmin G6 is waterproof. So even if you get caught in a sudden shower, your golf GPS device will be alright. But make sure that the exposure to water is limited.
Conclusion
Garmin Approach G6 brings you the maximum features without forfeiting tournament legality. The features give you all the distances readily at your fingertips. It is easy to initiate and use on a regular basis. It is a highly portable device. Little details like being able to discard Auto Hole Advance, save a lot of your time.

Garmin Approach S2 golf GPS watch is an uncomplicated golf gadget. It pulls up the crucial distances you need for your golf game with high accuracy. It provides layup/dogleg distances, shot distance measurement and scorecard capability.
S2 can also moonlight as a watch and odometer. It is lightweight and reasonably priced. It is stylish and meticulous in executing its carefully selected features properly. Garmin’s trustworthy support is an added advantage.
We tested and here is our review of Garmin Approach S2 golf GPS watch
Design & Features of Garmin Approach S2 golf GPS watch reviews
If S1 was the plain Jane, Garmin Approach S2 stepped up the game. It looks like a metrosexual gadget. The dial is a 1”-across the circle with black font. Dial housing is slightly bigger than the S1’s although both weigh the same at 1.8 ounces. One upgrade that Garmin users demanded of S1 was to have removable watch strap. S2 integrated this change into their design. So now, if your strap breaks off, you do not have to chuck the golf GPS watch into the bin.
There are four buttons on the side of the Garmin Approach S2. These are the up, down, power/backlight and menu buttons. Backlight remains on for about 9 seconds once you switch on the watch. The Up and Down button help you scroll down through various options. Menu button opens up the context menu for whatever View you are currently using. You can also use this button to select an option.
The highlights of its functionality include:
- Yardages for greens:
Garmin S2 gives you the distances to the front, center, and back of the greens on the main screen. The distance to the middle of the green is in the biggest font size. It is flanked by the back distance on the top and front distance at the bottom.
- Accuracy:
One of Garmin S2’s strongest traits is its accuracy. It gives your accurate distances within 3–4 yards. This is almost the same as Garmin’s more decked up handheld devices like G8. You will be competing with fairly large rangefinders in terms of accuracy. With S2, you have the distinct advantage of portability.
- Layup/Dogleg:
Layup View gives you the distances to the layup. It tells you the yardage to layup to 100, 150, 200, and 250 yards. The dogleg distances are accurate whenever they show up.
- Shot Measurement:
Garmin Approach S2 has the shot distance measurement feature. Once you have started the measurement, you can switch to the Hole View and check out the distances. The measurement continues in the background. Whenever you want to measure a new shot, you have to reset the measurement screen. The only problem is there’s no way to save the short distances on the Garmin S2 golf GPS watch.
- Scorecard:
Although not as evolved as the best handheld golf GPS devices like Garmin Approach G6 Golf GPS Course, the Garmin Approach S2 can keep track of your scores. You have to start the scoring function and S2 will keep notifying you to enter the score after each hole. You can utilize the Up and Down buttons to select your score. When you are done playing, you can connect the S2 to your computer and view your score on it.
Garmin Approach S2 Golf GPS Watches manual1. Course maps and detailing:
More than 30,000 courses come preloaded on Garmin Approach S2. You can update them or add new courses from their master database at zero charges. They have the most exhaustive list of course maps available for free. The only downside is you cannot save a hazard on S2. So every time you play, it takes a little guesswork to negotiate the hazards.
2. Watch Mode:
Garmin S2 can be used in the watch mode. In this mode, it shows the time and indicates the odometer status.
3. Auto Hole Advance:
S2 advances you automatically on the course once you have taken the shot and moved on. This combines with the scoring feature to send you notifications to save your score.
Conclusion
For some golfers, simplicity is the jam. They don’t want to be lured into the button trap where you tap out a complicated button sequence on your golf GPS device to use exotic features. Garmin Approach S2 golf GPS watch suits their needs best. The less technology-initiated will like the easy operation. It is backed by solid Garmin infrastructure of course mapping and support. S3, the newer version, has been upgraded to add your own hazards if you want to. Apart from that S2 has everything you need.

5. CaddyTek EZ-Fold 3 Wheel Golf Push Carts
CaddyTek is acing this list with multiple entries now. This one is the most affordable find from CaddyTek which needed special mention for allowing noobs to buy golf push carts. CaddyTek EZ-Fold, a three wheel ride as the name suggests, is a compact and uncomplicated caddie on wheels.
The petite frame of EZ-Fold3 hides a durable aluminum frame that is tough to defeat. Folding is facilitated by a two-step routine. The button to do this is surprise, surprise... patented. This golf push cart runs on only 3 wheels. These wheels are rubber-made hardy affairs that rarely need replacement or maintenance. They have the right alignment to provide a balance on both difficult and deceptively smooth ground. Ditching the hand break, EZ-Fold3 opts for a foot brake which comes more naturally to a driver. The handle is ergonomically padded and can be angled for more comfort.

This cart comes in a number of colors to add excitement to a great buy. CaddyTek EZ-Fold 3 Wheel Golf Push cart takes a spot in the best golf push cart list for being non-messy and cheaper than its super cousins.
Type Of Golf Carts
1. Golf Pull Carts:
Golf pull carts are not as popular as the golf push carts. What’s the difference? As logic would have it, golf pull carts are pulled behind you. These typically have two wheels which is all you need to drag your golf luggage around. These are more traditional designs. Based on personal preference, you might find them harder to use than the golf push cart.
2. Golf Push Carts:
Golf Push carts are the most commonly used golf carts. They usually have three wheels so that they can be pushed ahead of you. Many manufacturers like Clicgear, CaddyTek etc. also produce 4-wheel drives that are exceptionally stable and easier to move. But they carry the bulk of the extra wheel and can be harder to collapse.
3. Remote Controlled Golf Push Carts:
Remote-controlled golf carts come with a managing device that gives you the control of their movement. You can control your cart from within a range in which the remote control works. So you can literally summon your cart to your service. There are many considerations here. You have to do thorough research to see that the vehicle is safe and does not run wild on the golf course.
4. Golf Carts:
There’s THE golf cart, a small open vehicle that can carry you and your gear and even a buddy/caddy. It requires the least effort to maneuver. If you are a careful driver, this is a good option.

5. Electric Golf Push Carts:
If you want to reserve your energy to bring your A-game to the golf course, then you can resort to an electric golf push cart. It works on batteries so that’s one added concern for you. But it has some pretty cool features like Cruise control and speed memory which lets you go back and set it on a speed you found convenient earlier. Needless to say, it is more expensive than the regular golf carts.
Best Golf Push Cart: Buying Tips
An average golf bag can weigh 30 pounds or more. If you are not a ham-stuffing, steak glutton, that’s probably one third of your body weight. You can either carry the golf bag yourself or get a caddie. One is going to be heavy on your back and the other on your pocket. The alternative? A golf push cart. It carries all your stuff with minimum effort. And you do not have to give up the sedate walk that you enjoy between the shots. Choosing the best golf push cart could be quite the challenge. But prioritizing your needs and matching them against the equipment is the easiest way out. We created a checklist of features that you can refer to quickly, while shopping for the best golf cart. Also check out our best golf push cart reviews for more information.
1.Wheel size:
For any item to be stable on a surface, it should have a large contact area. Golf carts with larger wheels are easier to move around. They negotiate with tough terrains easily. They have better traction on rocky and uneven ground. Wider tires are more stable on smoother low friction surfaces.
2.Brake:
To avoid mishaps its best to choose golf push carts with brakes. With the amount of weight you load on the cart, they could run out of control on inclined surfaces. Having a brake helps control their movement instantly. There are hand-brake versions and foot brake golf carts. The hand brakes can be operated fast but foot brakes require lesser effort.
3.Sturdy handles:
A golf push cart is maneuvered using the handle. This handle must be designed and positioned ergonomically. Many golf carts offer 2-3 detent positions for handles so that you can use them per your height or comfort. The handles must be well made and should bear the weight of your golf bag.
4.Compact:
The whole idea of owning a golf push cart is to reduce the stress on your arms. The best golf carts are compact and easy to carry around. Even when you put them in the trunk of the car, they should be designed to fit such small spaces. The more compact they is, the more their usability is.
5.Collapsibility:
The golf carts are collapsible. They can be folded within themselves to form a small package that can be easily transported. In an age where we travel afar for golf tournaments and courses, this is a must-have feature.
6.Storage capacity:
If you have been golfing for a while, you would know what equipment you need on the go. The best golf push carts use their real estate strategically to provide storage options for your irons, umbrella, water bottle etc.. Some of them come with the golf bag included. But it is best to avoid too many features and pockets. Each pocket adds weight to the golf push cart and tempts you to carry more. This unnecessary repetitive strain can affect your arm adversely.
7.Ease of use:
Before choosing the best golf push cart for yourself, check out if it is easy to collapse and easy to assemble back. All its zips and pockets must be convenient to use and close. You shouldn’t have to fiddle to slip your items in. Because it will be hard to hold the cart steady and engage both your hands at the same time.
Verdict
Using a golf push cart has many advantages over motorized carts, not the least of which is seeing your pounds melt away from the exercise. Pushcarts offer you a chance to mingle. They are low maintenance and portable. Besides, why use a sword for a needle’s job. Golf push carts have grown popular with the health-conscious circle. We are hoping this good trend will catch on. When it does reach you, this best golf push cart list will help you take your pick.

UBERGOLF - Best Golf Ball For Beginners and Seniors 2018 Reviews
The best golf balls for beginners and seniors give you just that crucial little tweak that your practice might have missed. We ask a lot out of the best golf balls for beginners and seniors. Not only can the beginners benefit from this ball, they can transition to better players without changing their golf ball.
Best Golf Ball For Beginners & Seniors 2018
What is compression golf ball?
1. Compression:
If you look at the packaging of the golf balls, you might find the compression marking. This factor lies between 0 and 200. Compression tells you how much the ball will deflect when hit.
A. Low-Compression Balls:
Golf balls with lower compression are softer. Their compression flings the ball through a higher distance. These are known as ‘distance balls’. These are balls to be used by learners and high-handicap people. Check out what your average swing speed is. The pros and low-handicap players average 95 mph or more. Others can manage only 70-85 mph. Low-compression golf balls allow the latter to attain similar distances as the pros.
B. High Compression Balls:
High compression balls: Higher compression balls are meant for more control over the ball. This control is given by more spin. These require high swing speeds to lunge as far as the distance balls. These are usually called ‘tour balls’. And since good golfers use these, they know how to make use of the spin to control the ball. The high-compression balls are easier to handle near the greens. Greens approach shots require ball rolling and strategy. These balls provide that kind of finesse to your shots.
Compression Value:
The low-compression far-flying balls are rated between 70 and 80. The higher-compression balls are usually rated 90-110.
Ball mechanics:
The reason why the low-compression balls are good for low-handicap golfers is their response to the club contact. They spring off with more momentum off the tee than the high-compression balls
Weather:
When golfing in cold weather, always go for low-compression balls. The high-compression ones tend to feel more rigid and fly very less distance in the winters
What Differentiates The Golf Balls For Beginners And Seniors?
We work on the premise that beginner and senior golfers have low swing speeds and high handicaps.
Here are the parameters to consider before making the best golf ball for beginners & seniors buy:
1. Ball cover
There are two types of golf balls based on the covers on the balls. Each has different ball movement. The Surlyn balls are firmer and far more durable than the urethane balls. And they are also cheaper. Again, these have a lower backspin and offer less control than the urethane balls. But at the beginner stage, we think you will do better with Surlyn balls because they fly straighter and lower.
2. Spin
The golf balls vary in their behavior based on the number of layers they have. They could be one-piece, two-piece, three-piece and multi-layer balls. The two-piece balls are the best option for the budding or senior golfers. These are cheap and sturdy. So you can even buy used two-piece balls and not be disappointed. These usually have low to medium spin and they cover long distances with slower swing speeds.
The three-piece balls have higher spin rates. They offer more control but lower shot distances. One-piece golf balls are the cheapest but they are just one god of Surlyn. As a result they don’t fly very far. These are usually used on driving ranges, not golf courses.
3. Dimples
Dimples also alter the performance of golf balls. Dimples reduce the actual area of the cover. Why are the dimples important?  The more area the cover has, the more air pressure affects it. And consequently smoother balls end up flying shorter. Dimples increase the distance of the shot by creating turbulence in the air they travel through.
Also, as the dimples get deeper and smaller, the backspin increases. The wider and shallower dimples provide low spin rate and longer shot distances. So we would go for golf balls with more wide and shallow dimples for beginners and seniors.
4. Compression
As explained before, low compression balls favor longer distances and straighter drive for the high-handicap golfers.

At launch from the tee, it gives you fast ball speeds and low spin. This makes these golf balls excellent for the beginners and seniors. Although the inner core is soft, you get excellent playability near the greens. The outer core kicks in and provides higher spin rates on shorter shots. Being pure white, they are easy to spot for folks who are programmed to look for the white color.
These golf balls have a low-compression rating of 71. This gives them the high moment of inertia, which in turn brings better accuracy to the off-center shots. Folks who are just learning to drive straight will benefit from such ball behavior.
The 4-piece construction of these golf balls for high-handicap golfers is very reliable. They will not get maimed within a season or two. The urethane cover makes for tour performance and hardy construction.

What are the right golf sunglasses?
The right golf sunglasses will aid the golfers’ game rather than distracting them. Using your regular sunglasses might not be a good idea. They could be cheap polarized glasses or have the wrong color lenses for the golf course. What the best golf sunglasses bring you is greater contrast than normal vision, which helps you see the hazards and targets better. The correctly polarized sunglasses get you proper depth perception so you can depend on your shaded vision to make distance estimates.
The top golf sunglasses selected here address all the problems that golfers usually complain of with the sunglasses. Besides, with UV radiations souring the outdoor activities these days, wearing a sunglass is just good sense. Eyes can get permanently damaged by excessively bright sunlight and extreme exposure to sunlight. We suggest you protect yourself completely with golf sunglasses and golf hat.
Are expensive golf sunglasses worth it?
All expensive golf sunglasses aren’t necessarily better than the cheaper ones. But pricier sunglasses have their distinct advantages, more so in case of golf sunglasses. Expensive sunglasses invest in the following things:
UV protection: Imposter sunglasses are usually just tinted and shaped like your favorite designer glasses. When the light hits the eyes beyond a certain lumen value, the iris contracts to limit the light entering the eyes. The fake sunglasses can trick the eyes into believing less amount of harmful rays are entering the eyes and allow more UV rays in. Of course, there are reasonably-priced glasses which block the UV rays completely. Those are some of the best golf sunglasses.
Optical correctness: Although cheaper glasses may look like the Oakleys, their lenses are very different. They don’t have the same clarity and quality. Sometimes the two lenses differ in color or have a small distortion which disturbs your view. You will never have such issues with the expensive or moderately-priced sunglasses.
Polarization: People have differing views about polarization. Properly polarized glasses give you clear contrast and view of the greens. And no, they do not alter depth perception. So you will be able to judge the distances just like the naked eye. And you will see the objects in the golf course better because of better contrast. Polarization eliminates the issue of ‘glare’. This helps you see the water hazards better. You will even perceive the depth of water more correctly. Smaller items like rocks and sticks get better visibility. Usually cheaper sunglasses do not implement polarization correctly.
Durability: Even if the cheaper golf sunglasses match up with expensive ones in all respects, the good-quality shades are just more durable. They are not likely to snap off like a twig when carried around in your golf bag.
Comfort: When a golfer is pulling his A-game, she or he should not be distracted by anything. Good-quality sunglasses usually do not form any pressure points on your nose or ears. They are comfortable to sport and become inconspicuous on your face. The imposter sunglasses may dent either side of your nasal bridge. They may even keep sliding off your nose as you bend to take your shot.

What are the best sunglasses for golfers?
There’s a horde of sunglasses in the market to choose from in all price ranges. But there are few which can effectively add value to your golf game and safeguard your eyes against early cataract and macular degeneration. The best golf sunglasses are selected based on:
UV-ray protection: The best golf sunglasses provide 100% protection against UVA and UVB rays. UV rays lead to macular degeneration, of which the American populace runs a huge risk. This can cause permanent vision loss. UVB rays are also adept at causing cataract, where a white film clouds the lens and impairs your vision. About 20% of cataract cases can be traced back to sun exposure.
Optical Clarity: This is the most important quality of the best golf sunglasses. It’s imperative that you get a clear view of the golf course and its various fixtures even with the sunglasses on. Their lenses have no aberrations and provide unobstructed view.
Fitment: The best golf sunglasses feel feather-light on your face. They will never take the focus off the game. For most face types, these will not form any pain on the nasal bridge or ears either. Many sunglass manufacturers offer different sizes of the same sunglass model.
Lens color: Some lens colors are just better for the golf course than others. Polarized brown, copper or amber lenses are the best on the golf course. They provide excellent contrast against the green or blue tones of the course.
The golf sunglasses Winner:
The best golf sunglasses are your silent, but very protective, golf partners. They keep your most strategic weapon sharp: your vision.
With so many sunglasses flooding the market, it was hard to make the pick. But the Oakley Men's Flak 2.0 XL Sunglasses emerged as clear winners. They work magic in creating ultra-light sunglasses that can withstand some major abuse. These are customizable with two sets of nose pads. They eliminate potential lens issues like smudging and sweat-clouding preemptively. Extra socks and hard case complete the package. That being said, the other best golf sunglasses are no trinkets. They get the job done just as meticulously.

UBERGOLF - Best Fairway Woods Reviews For High Handicappers: Top Rated All Time
Best fairway woods for high handicappers are serendipitous not just in name but also of course. They are capable of bringing you closer to the hole like no other club. While each golfer may have an individual gameplay strategy, playing with the right fairway woods will make the conquest much easier. In this post, we discuss the best fairway woods 2018 and detail how we selected them and how to play them.
Best Fairway Woods 2018
Fairway Woods Reviews 2018
1. Callaway Men's XR Fairway Wood - best fairway woods all time
The Callaway men’s XR fairway woods look quite similar to their X2 Hot clubs. But the design has undergone a paradigm shift that leads to an extremely forgiving performance.
Callaway introduced an internal standing wave on the inner sole which lowers the CG by 20% and moves it forward. It makes the woods easier to hit off the ground.
The low forward CG also yields more distance by reducing spin by around 200 rpm.
The leading edge of the club has been flattened and is supported by a higher toe. The face height remains optimum for most golfers from the fairway. The Project LZ shaft maximizes energy transfer at impact.
The matte finish of the crown contributes to better aerodynamics and increased clubspeed.
These fairway woods sound great at impact. They are good for golfers of all handicaps. They come with head covers.
3-, 5-, 4-, 7-woods are available in regular, senior and stiff shafts for right- and left-handed players.
PROS
Lower, more forward CG with internal standing wave
Very forgiving
Very easy to hit off the ground
Excellent feedback and sound at impact
CONS
None
2. TaylorMade Men's M2 Fairway Wood - best taylormade fairway woods
TaylorMade men’s M2 Fairway wood is acing the game with both excellent distances and spin. Whether it’s hit off the tee or the fairway, this club brings definite improvement to your game. Although unlike M1, this doesn’t have adjustable weights, it is extremely easy to hit.
This fairway wood has carbon composite crown as debuted in M1 which lowers the center of gravity. When combined with the steel chassis, this moves the CG lower and closer to the impact zone.
The leading edge is painted white in stark contrast to the rest of the crown making it a valuable alignment aid.
Instead of the sliding weights of M1, the underside of M2 carries the Speed Pocket design used popularly in TaylorMade Aeroburner. This translates to higher clubface flex and 400-500 rpm less spin upon impact.
The hosel of these fairway woods is fixed. This is a cost-cutting measure and going by the trend, a popular one. This fixed hosel design lowers the weight and builds the strength of the club.
3-, 5-, 7-woods are available in regular, senior, x-stiff and stiff shafts for right- and left-handed players.
PROS
Carbon composite crown promotes low, forward CG
A white alignment mark on crown
Ball bursts with speed and loft off the clubface
X-stiff shaft is available
Head covers are shipped with it
CONS
None
3. Adams Tight Lies 2013 Fairway Wood - most forgiving fairway wood
Adams Tights Lies Fairway woods debuted the revolutionary upside-down design and slot technology. The visible slots on crown and sole have troubled many a young golfer so they have been ‘dignified’ in the newer version.
The newer Tight Lies fairway woods have a slot each on the crown and the sole. But the crown slot has been sheathed and is now called a ‘Ghost Slot’. Because it exists but you will not know from looking.
The two slots enable the clubface to flex more at impact and reduce backspin transferred to the golf ball. This results in higher ball speed.
Their Tri-sole design adapts them to use from any kind of lie: rough, light rough, tee, you name it.
The low CG and widened bottom part of the face makes them very forgiving no matter which lies you are aiming from.
These fairway woods give solid sound and feedback upon impact. They come with Mitsubishi Rayon KuroKage stock shaft and Under Your Hands grips.
Tight Lies fairway woods are available in regular, senior, and stiff shafts for right- and left-handed players with 14°, 16° and 19° lofts.
PROS
Solid forgiving impact
Ghost slot and sole slot hugely improve ball speed
Tri-sole for hitting off any lie
Head cover included
CONS
Clubhead looks too compact
4. Cleveland Golf Men's 588 Fairway Wood - best fairway woods ever
The Cleveland Golf 588 fairway wood finds its success in being a traditional fairway wood design with a few nips and tucks to appease the modern golfer.
A weight screw at the back of the clubhead may fool you into thinking this is an adjustable fairway wood. It’s not. The screw moves the CG lower and forward.
The ball flies true and mid-high off the face of these fairway woods because of their low CG. The long flight ends in a soft landing. So 588 does not sacrifice control for distance.
The impact and forgiveness of these clubs remain consistent even through various swing situations. We found them rather dependable while taking shots in pressure.
The 588 fairway woods are marketed as one of the longest in the market at 43.5 inches. Their Premium Matrix Ozik 6q3 shaft weighs around 67.5grams.
588 fairway woods are available in regular, senior, and stiff shafts for right- and left-handed players with 15.5° and 18° lofts.
PROS
Long mid-high ball flight
Low, forward CG for lower spin
Traditional, reassuring fairway woods looks
Large sweet spot
Head covers included
CONS
Performance is reliable, not exceptional
5. Cobra Men's 5-7 W Bio Cell Fairway Wood - best fairway woods for high handicappers
Cobra Bio Cell fairway woods packs a lot of technology in each club. They go all out on the adjustable parts and offer great versatility.
The MyFly8 technology of these fairway woods offers 8 adjustable loft settings. Based on the lie and your strategy, you can use these settings to maximize the shot distances. You can also cover the yardages gaps with fewer clubs.
The Neutral/Draw biasing screw re-adjusts the clubface to square after you have made the loft changes. A square face promotes truer and longer shots with low spin.
View On Amazon
These are extremely forgiving fairway woods that work well in diverse situations. They bring marked improvement to the golfers’ game.
The shallow club face has been forged with thin steel to maximize flex and hence reduce ball spin.
5- and 7-woods are provided in regular, stiff and senior flex for right- and left- handed golfers.
PROS
8 adjustable loft setting
Biasing screw for squaring clubface
Very forgiving and versatile
Headcovers included
CONS
3-wood not available
What Are Fairway Woods?
Fairway woods are a set of clubs that is used to hit longer distances than irons. Their design pivots on two important features:
DEGREES OF LOFT
DESCRIPTION AND NOTES
13 - 14
A 'Strong' 3. Slightly lower loft than a normal 3 - slightly lower trajectory
15 - 16
Classic fairway 3 wood
16 - 17
Strong 4 - A slightly easier, shorter 3 wood
17 - 18
4 wood. Safer than a 3 wood, longer than a 5
18 - 19
Strong 5
19 - 21
Easy hitting long wood. Along with the driver, often carried with a 3 wood
23 - 24
Strong 7. Shaft should be a little longer than a regular seven. A good complement to 4 woods.
28 - 29
9 woods and beyond. High-lofted woods like these can be used instead of mid irons – some find them easier to hit. Also good out of rough because the edges are smoother than an iron head so swipe through long grass more easily

11 Woods. See above. Lofts vary considerably between manufacturers. These very high loft fairway woods are especially popular with lady golfers and seniors who don’t generate quite as much clubhead speed.
Fairway woods have higher loft compared to driver. This allows you to lift the ball off the turf and send it off at a high angle.
The shallow face height restricts the sweet spot to its entire face. This way if you make an impact with the golf ball, it’s most likely at the sweet spot of the fairway wood. This ensures straighter longer shots.
3-, 5- and 7-wood are the most common fairway woods carried by a golfer. The 1-wood is commonly called a driver, which you are all familiar with. The driver is the longest fairway wood with the lowest loft. As the wood number increases, the lofts also increase.
Here’s how lofts are usually divided amongst woods:
How To Play Fairway Woods?
Fairway woods are usually played in the following situations:
Second shot of par-5 or long par-4
Tee shot when it should fall short of dogleg or hazard. Here driver may drive the golf ball into the hazard.
In place of long irons from the fairway.
To Play 3-Wood:
Ball Position
Stance
Swing
1. Ball position:
The ball should be forward in your position. For a right-handed golfer set up the ball 2-3 inches inside of the left foot.
2. Stance:
The stance should be wider than that used to play irons. Try shoulder width apart or elbow width apart. The wider stance facilitates better power transfer at impact.
3. Swing:
The fairway wood should not the hit the ball in the upswing or the downswing. The clubhead should be level to the ground while hitting the ball. You should have a shallow angle of attack and a sweeping strike. So the club should impact the ball level to the ground or slightly in the upswing..
This way you let the native loft of the wood raise the ball and send it flying far. You should concentrate your momentum on the ball by moving your right shoulder( for right-handed players).
To Play 5-Wood:
While the method above works for 3-woods, the ideology behind hitting a 5-wood is a little different. As the fairway wood number rises, you must play it more like the irons. The attack should be at a sharper angle and ball should be struck with a downward impact.
How To Buy Fairway Woods?
Fairway woods are usually standard for the beginners. As you evolve in your game you can experiment with different lofts and see which ones suit you best. But the following considerations help:
Loft
Clubhead
Shaft
Weight
- Loft:
We have mentioned the loft of the fairway woods above. Depending on the local course and your gameplay, you can decide which woods you want to keep. 3-wood and 5-woods are usually essential unless replaced by hybridï»żs. Larger fairway woods ( 11-, 13-, 15-wood etc.) can replace irons for women and seniors.
- Clubhead:
Traditionally the clubheads of fairway woods were made of wood, specifically persimmon. Currently, fairway woods have stainless steel or titanium-coated heads. The latter allows bigger clubhead which is useful anywhere but the rough.
- Shaft:
You get a choice between steel and graphite shafts. The graphite shafts are more pliant and hence easier to hit for people with lower swing speeds like senior golfers. Steel shafts offer more control and accuracy to golfers with high swing speed (90-110mph).
- Woods vs. Irons:
If you are adept with long irons 3-iron and 4-irons, they can replace 5- and 7-woods. However, the larger clubhead of fairway woods is easier to hit than irons.
- Weight:
Low handicappers should go for heavier fairway woods to get more control. Women and mid-handicappers benefit from low and standard weights. A low Center of Gravity(CG) of clubhead allows straighter shots.
