What resources are there on campus to help me with time management?
The Academic Achievement Center is a great resource that you should take advantage of! You can meet with a mentor who will help you plan out your studying for exams or projects and is there to help you with any questions you may have. The AAC also has online materials that can be found on their website to help you, such as the 5 day study plan prior to your exam. If you have any questions or concerns regarding time management the AAC is the perfect place to seek guidance.

What are some of the best classes to take on campus that will be both fun and easy, but help me learn a lot?
The classes you take should be centered around your interests and will be different depending on your major. However as a student in CLAS, I can provide you with some great general education courses that I really enjoyed. Two of my favorite classes that I took at UConn for GenEds were The Fundementals of Nutrition with Dr. Mobley and Gender and Globalization with Dr. Mmao! I learned so much in these courses and had a great experience with both professors!

If I want to study abroad through UConn, how will I know that I won't be behind in completing my major requirements? Is it worth the experience?
The opportunity to study abroad through UConn is something that you should absolutely take advantage of! Studying abroad gives you a chance to learn about another culture, explore a new part of the globe, and experience personal growth throughout the process. The key to a successful semester abroad is to plan your courses carefully with your academic advisor at least one semester prior to your study abroad trip. Additionally, you should make an appointment with the education abroad office, located in the Rowe building, or attend their walk in hours to meet with a global student mentor. Here is a link to their website with additional information that may help!https://abroad.uconn.edu/our-team/

What opportunities exist for undergraduates to work on research or academic projects with professors?
There a plethora of ways to get involved in research or academic projects with professors! One of the most straightforward ways to accomplish this is to reach out to the professor you want to work with, let them know you have an interest in their work, and respectfully ask if they are willing to work with you. If directly approaching a professor seems too intimidating, reach out to your academic advisor and they can connect you to research resources!

Is it hard to get a’s in college? Are the classes harder than ap in high school?
It is hard to get A’s in college. Instead of having an entire year to master the material you have to squeeze it into half a year. But it’s still possible! Classes are about the same as AP’s in high school but maybe a bit more difficult. The thing you have to understand is the pace is faster not that the material is harder. Once you adjust to the speed of classes and what you need to do to keep up with them you’ll do just fine. Always reach out for help if you don’t understand something in the moment. It’s very hard to learn everything at the last minute.

Im feeling stressed trying to keep up with my schoolwork, job and relationships with friends. What are the best quiet/nice places to go around campus to clear my head, do work, journal etc?
Totally normal! Learning how to balance it all can be quiet tough. I love hanging out in the green houses, down by mirror lake, the summit, and bookworms in the library because they are all chill places to be.

Tip #46
Read the Daily Digest! You get an email every week day at 11:00, and this is a great way to get involved and be in the know about things on campus. There are events, fundraisers, job opportunities, and surveys that you can participate in. This is super useful to everyone and doesn’t take that long to look through every morning,

Tip #124
If you have an exam tomorrow, study today. It might be tempting to go hang out with your friends, but you’ll be happy when you get that A.

Sometimes the library is too loud to focus or there are too many people there that it can become distracting when trying to focus. Is there any other place on campus that is less popular to go and study?
The higher up you go in the library the quieter it gets. The fourth floor is basically silent. Most class rooms are open at all times so if there isn’t a class going on you can hang out in the room and study away. On the fourth floor of Monteith there is a study lounge anyone can use.

Are you rolling in cash? Do you have an extra 5 bucks you don’t know what to do with? Well Huskython is a great event you can donate that dough to. Every year UConn hosts an 18hr dance marathon to raise money for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. It’s a lot of fun so join a team or just donate to a friend!

LAUNDRY IS LETHAL
Your laundry needs to be done, even if you can think you can wait another week... trust me, you can’t. It may be 4 floors below you, or a walk outside to get to the machines, but a part of being in college is managing life outside of classes and friends.
As a freshman I thought I could wait to do laundry, and it seemed like whenever I had just finished doing it I had a whole other pile of dirty clothes again. Living on the fourth floor and having 2 washers and driers for the whole building, it felt like the world was ending whenever it was time for me to do laundry. I had to walk up and down the stairs at least twice just to make sure there was a washing machine open, and another few times to put my clothes in the drier which was usually already full, leaving me with nowhere to put my wet clothes.
BUT through the pain of it all I realized that laundry, while being the bane of my existence, is necessary. Walking up and down the stairs was like my own personal workout, and at the end of it all I had clean clothes to wear the next week. Also, I found that I could study in or near the laundry room, which was great multitasking and gave me a nice way to get work done. SO, the moral of the story is that while laundry sucks, you still have to do it, and having a positive outlook on it will make it feel a little better.

Tip #245
If you’re thinking of changing your major and want to talk to someone within that department or just don’t feel like you and your advisor mesh well together, you're always able to sign up for an appointment with other advisors to talk about your options.

Carving out time in your schedule to watch the sunrise/sunset on Horsebarn Hill at least once is definitely worth it. At least once a year, Counseling and Mental Health Services, Recreation, and WOW sponsor a sunset yoga on Horsebarn Hill where you can de-stress and enjoy the beautiful view with fellow Huskies. The event is free, and shuttles are provided.

What’s the easiest way to get class sign ups done?
SCHEDULE BUILDER ON STUDENT ADMIN!!!!!
Schedule builder is a MAGICAL program that you can access through the  student center on student admin. You can put in all of the courses you want for the upcoming semester (once they come out), and plot out any breaks that you need (or just want) and you can generate all the schedule possibilities from those chosen classes. Once you’ve gone through all of the combinations, you can “lock” the class section you want. After you’ve locked all of the classes, you can send them to your shopping cart (which is under “Enroll” back on student admin). You then go back to student admin, click on the “Enroll” link, and like magic, ALL THE RIGHT CLASSES AND SECTIONS ARE THERE!! You can check off all of the classes, click enroll, follow the steps, and you have just quickly and easily gotten your enrollment for the following semester done!
