How to Project Plan your Nano
November approaches, and for some people (not me), that means NaNoWriMo and the wild experience of writing 50,000 words (or whatever target you set) in 30 days. Which is, I can say from experience, a lot.
You can do it by panic-writing every day (been there, done that) and reaching the word count you need, but here are some (modified) project management tips to make it a little easier to actually finish your NaNo.
Plot out beforehand what dates you are unlikely to be able to write. That might be a holiday, it might be someone's birthday, it might be when you have something big due for school or work, it might be some other upcoming life event, etc.
Once you have a guess on the number of days you'll actually be able to write (which might be 30 but is more likely than not to be less than that), redo your words per day count.
Pick a couple of key writing days to try to write extra. This will give you a buffer in case you can't write as much some days or in case another no-write day pops up unexpectedly. This can also happen day-of. If you're on a roll, write more than your goal.
Do writing sprint. If you can, plan some in-person or via Zoom/Meet/etc writing sprints so you can get the peer pressure of other people writing with you. They help, I promise.
Try to block off some time every day that you can to get some writing done with minimal interruptions. It's easier to write when you get the flow than if you have to stop every ten minutes.
And just remember--NaNoWriMo is about quantity, not quality. Don't edit while you write, and don't worry if it's bad or nonsensical or if you have plot holes you could drive a bus through. Fixing all of that is for later. This is just a time to write.

every time i start to feel cringe for being too deep in the hyperfixation i remember the intense depression i have waded through and have to remind myself that enjoyment is fleeting (so grab it with both hands), and life is for loving (so hold that love close), and if anyone thinks i’m cringe they must not be having a very good time (and i hope they can find a good time soon).

You cheated not only the art, but yourself.
You didn't grow. You didn't improve. You took a shortcut and gained nothing.
You experienced a hollow victory. Nothing was risked and nothing was gained.
It's sad that you don't know the difference.

What is your take on each of the boys fears in the 2003 episode where they hallucinate their worst fears? Thinking of the episode where they rescue Angels brother. I feel like Raph’s is pretty straight forward but how do you interpret the other 3?
What I find interesting about their fears in that episode is ultimately how similar Leo's and Donnie's fears are, as well as Raph's and Mikey's. There are many ways in 03 that Donnie is portrayed as very similar to Leo, and Mikey to Raph, and this episode was no exception.
In a larger sense - bearing in mind that episode is called "The Darkness Within" - all four brothers' fears are connected to the idea of internal corruption or evil taking over, either themselves or each other or other people they care about. In a sense, all four brothers fear "evil" most of all, but each manifests that fear in a slightly different way.
Leo and Donnie's nightmare scenarios were largely the same: failing when failure isn't an option. Failing to save people they love or care about. Leo fails to save Splinter - twice - and the second time kills Splinter himself. Donnie can't save Angel. Both nightmare-Splinter and nightmare-Angel are portrayed as "turning evil" or embracing evil (Angel jumping into the abyss, as she nearly did with her gang activity the first time they met her), but both incidents are framed, by Leo and Donnie, as them failing to save the two from death and destruction. This bears out for both their characters - Leo and Donnie both work so hard to protect their families, and are both so hard on themselves when they perceive themselves as failing - even if it would have been impossible for them to succeed. What if Leo can't fight hard enough to save his father? What if Donnie, no matter what he does, can't pull Angel off her destructive path? What if everything they do isn't enough?
While of course Raph has something different going on that I'll get into in a minute, his and Mikey's fears are also very similar. Mikey fears evil Leo. And in a way, it's such a weirdly "sweet" fear for Mikey to have. He doesn't even envision Splinter that way (even though he would encounter an evil version of Splinter later that season). It's evil Leo that scares the hell out of Mikey. Like, the hero-worship, my god. Mikey believes in heroes, after all. He wants to be one. As far as he's concerned, Leo is one. But what if heroes aren't real? What if anyone can be corrupted? Is it possible for anyone to be good or honourable if Leo isn't? Truly, in a world where Leo is evil, there can't possibly be any goodness left.
(Even sweeter: Mikey isn't wrong. Leo is the first to snap out of his nightmare, comes to his brothers' rescue, and resists the corrupting temptations of the meteor spear. Mikey's faith remains untarnished this episode.)
Raph's fear is incredibly sad, because he's afraid of himself. He's afraid of his anger and losing control and abandoning everything he loves and values and turning into something he hates. Ultimately, it's that same fear of unstoppable internal corruption that Mikey has, but he applies it to himself, not Leo (even in Raph's worst nightmares, Leo's presumably one of the good guys). But it's the same idea, bolstered by Raph's personal experiences of momentarily giving into his worst impulses and nearly hurting people he loves. What if he can't stop it one day? What if he stops trying? What if the worst parts of him just... take over, someday?
For Leo and Donnie, evil is ever-present and inevitable, but ultimately something they perceive as external. They fear failing to save people around them from it. They don't judge Splinter or Angel for becoming evil - it was the inevitable result of their own failures to save them. They visualize evil as a monster they can fight or a path that can be avoided.
For Raph and Mikey, evil is ever-present and inevitable and terrifying and pernicious: it can take the best person I know. It can take my family. It can take me. Neither of them seem to perceive evil as something they can save people from, but seem to perceive it nearly like an illness, or perhaps as something ephemeral or ghostly or spiritual. It's not something they can fight, it's something that can just win.
You know what's wild though? When the four boys get scattered across the universe later on, they confront these fears head-on:
- Mikey has to confront an irreddemably evil version of his own father.
- Donnie defeats the evil in his universe, but fails to save his family.
- Raph (thinks he) has to choose between a dishonourable victory or a honourable defeat - that is, he has to resist his worst impulses and choose his better ones, even when the choice could be costly for himself and others.
- Leo beats the evil forces in Usagi's world, but nearly fails to save his family from the evil forces keeping them apart.
Just. Damn. These are kids, you know?

I will never get tired of queer relationships being placed in the same kinds of positions that straight relationships have dominated throughout the entire history of media basically. Rom coms like OFMD? Religious satire comedy dramas like Good Omens? Star crossed soulmates beating the system like the movie Nimona? After spending most of my childhood seeing queer characters as the token rep side characters as best or in niche media who’s only audience is other queer ppl, seeing so much mainstream media of so many different genres center around queer couples with 2 very much fully developed characters means the world to me

““After meaningful conversations, it is clear that the gap between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA is too great, and conversations are no longer moving us in a productive direction,” the AMPTP wrote in a press release on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, SAG is calling out Hollywood CEOs—including Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, Disney’s Bob Iger, NBCUniversal’s Donna Langley, and Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav, who are all present during the talks—for low-balling and using “bullying tactics.” “It is with profound disappointment that we report the industry CEOs have walked away from the bargaining table after refusing to counter the latest offer,” SAG’s TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee announced on X on Thursday. “We have negotiated with them in good faith, despite the fact that last week, they presented an offer that was, shockingly, worth less than they proposed before the strike began.””
SAG-AFTRA Strike Looks Bleaker Than Ever as Talks Break Down
Oh, look, the same reprehensible billionaires are using the same failed tactics with SAG-AFTRA that they tried with WGA.
Fuck you, David Zaslav, Bob Iger, and your fellow scumbags. You’re nothing without the creative workers who are the heart of the entertainment industry. All we are asking for is reasonable protections so we can earn a living and qualify for health insurance. You want another helipad on your yacht.
As long as it takes. One day longer, one day stronger.

The. Deal. Is. So. Good.
Couldn't get the link to the side-by-side of the WGA offer, the AMPTP counter offer from May, and the final deal, because it's a document to download and too many pictures to take for this post that probably wouldn't be legible, but it's in this tweet (click the link below the tweet to go to said tweet):

Don't forget, the fight isn't over for SAG-AFTRA and next year, contracts are up again for IATSE, including The Animation Guild.
If you're a fan of movies, film, and animation, keep helping the guilds fight the good fight!
And of course, big thanks to strike hero Drew Carey for paying for probably THOUSANDS of meals for striking writers in LA these past five months.
Congratulations WGA and Pre-WGA for your amazing wins with this contract!

Hi, it’s National Coming Out Day, and I’ve been out as a queer trans woman to everyone for about eight months. Which really isn’t that long considering I was in the closet in some shape or form for almost 34 years.
In this short amount of time, I have lived life to the fullest. There are still good days and bad, but it’s incredible to be myself in the world when for so long I felt like I was sleepwalking through every moment.
If you’re still in a painful place where the world doesn’t get to witness your glorious self, I’m here for you. And there are lot of other folks who here for you, too.
I appreciate the kindness of everybody out there who’s ever supported me. Thank you :)
