My insane deltarune theory that i am crossposting to here because i realized it makes more sense than i want it to

isn't it interesting how gaster and the holidays have some habit of discovering issues with the world and falling into glitches and easter-eggs and they both reference real world religion/traditions, gaster referencing 666 and the holidays referencing christmas? Doesn't it make sense for the game to constantly try and get rid of the holidays by sending them out of bounds and throwing them into the depths? The game is fiction, but this real world holiday has, just like the player, wormed itself into the fictional reality, and the fiction is trying to completely eradicate the holidays because christmas doesn't belong in this world, christianity doesn't exist in deltarune, but Christmas has still made its way in through sheer pervasiveness ICE-E, too, is pervasive. In all aspects of Home-town. We NEVER see fictional characters become darkners, but ICE-E has a chance to, ICE-E is both a real mascot and a series of ever-present items. Noelle is scared of both ICE-E and Santa Claus. ICE-E is the Santa of the Light-World, Santa is the Santa of our world. ICE-E is real. So Real that he becomes essential to any fiction that wishes to immerse the lightners. So real he becomes fiction. He becomes omnipresent.

We left off here so we're starting here- let's look through the album "Race" released in 1988.

The first song on this album that I think is significant is Don't You Forget, the songs before it have some lyrics that repeat themes we've seen in previous songs and in deltarune, but those seem inconsequential to the wider inspiration. Don't You Forget has alot more to it though, I mean, one of deltarune's whole things is "Don't Forget."

So obviously the song talks about memories you could've guessed that, and memories are a whole thing with Kris, Noelle, Dess, and Asriel, but the whole "When I'm gone to another world where nobody can hear me shout" line comes out of fucking no where and is yet another connection between Dess's dissapearance and Pseudo Echo.

Nothing else in this album is jumping out at me, so let's move onto Teleporter, which genius doesn't fucking have lyrics for. This entire album is incredibly Y2K, and it feels like some of the CyberWorld's sound was inspired by the songs here.

This song talks about wanting to go to heaven. Spamton!!! Thats a spamton thingieee. Also talks about marriage so. The addisons have a weird fixation on marriage. It tracks.

This song ALSO has incredible Chapter 2 vibes. It also matches some of queen's motivations. "Living in a pleasure dome [...] Never have to leave the home". Queen's motivation IS giving people pleasure. Song talks about robots and such and such. It fits.

That's all I have for teleporter, but there's one last song I want to look at.

Life in Ice.

"HERE - WHERE MY MIND AND YOUR SOUL MEET"

"WE SEEM SO CLOSE" "YET, THERE'S ANOTHER WORLD BETWEEN" "AND NOT SO CLOSE"

So this "Another World" has been in alot of pseudo echo songs, and at this point, we can get a pretty good idea of how it functions, and likely how the depths function. - They're timeless, they're close but far at the same time, and it's possible to try and sort of reach out from them and call for help.

"LYING IN THE ICE" "MELTING FROM THE TEARS I CRY" "NEVER LIVING LIFE" "BUT YOU NEVER EVER DIE" "AND AS THE DAYS AND YEARS GO BY" "YOU NEVER CHANGE" "HERE, WHERE YOUR AGELESS BODY LIES, IT SEEMS SO STRANGE"

This could've become two things, either Dess being trapped in the depths, under the ice (She presumably got lost during a snowstorm), never dying and stuck. OR. This is about how Noelle is going to attempt to save Rudy, using the darkworlds, but not for healing magic, but to freeze Rudy's body in time. The "Melting from the tears I cry" also reminds me of Snowdrake's mother.

"THERE'S A LONELY SHADOW CROSSED" "ACROSS THE ICE" "AND AS THE SUN SINKS TO THE PAST" "ANOTHER NIGHT" Shadowsss and night. And Ice.

Ok that's all. I'm finally done with this little theory thing. What can we conclude from the inspiration Deltarune takes from these songs? 1. There's a link between Memories, The Depths, and The Past. The Depths appear to be in the past, far away yet close, and more stuff. I'm so fucking hungry right now sorry and I'm kind of rushing this post. 2. Kris is fucking dead. Alot of characters are dead and trying not to die, it seems. Kept in a purgatorial state between life and death. Undertale established some of these themes, but Deltarune will probably go into further depth with the whole resisting dying thing.

3. Being in the depths fucks with people's ability to remember you, Dess's dissapearance was recent, so reality hasn't fully unpersoned her yet, but everyone who isn't a Holiday seems to refuse to talk about her, and it might be that reality is trying to change the subject away from her. This also happens with Gaster and is probably why Onion has alzheimers in Deltarune, because they keep looking into Gaster

4. i dunno its just really neat. You can come to your own conclusions about how future chapters might take from these songs or how the rules of deltarune's world are informed by them. I'm just here to point out that Toby probably used them as inspo.

PART 3 - PSEUDO ECHO

As we covered earlier, Funky-Town and other Lipps Inc songs likely served as inspiration for Deltarune Chapter 2, but Lipps Inc isn't the only band associated with Funky Town. Pseudo Echo, an Australian band, released their own cover of the song, and it was their most popular release by far. So let's see if any of their other, original songs, could've inspired Deltarune. We'll go album by album, song by song, scanning for lyrics of note.

I'll skip any songs that aren't part of this analysis.

Their first album, Autumnal Park, has an interesting cover.

I mean. Reddish Autumn trees that are blocky and shifting around. You can see it, right? Anyways.

This song's relationship to Deltarune's themes is pretty clear. Not only is there the whole plot about Kris hiding their possession and others being suspicious of it, but there's the whole thing with darkners, having their roles to play and unable to do much else due to a lack of agency/identity.

This is only here because it's about the shore/ocean. Sorry.

Now Stranger in Me is where it gets fucking insane.

Kris has a stranger inside them, and others don't realize this, except for Noelle (for the most part), who fits the role as the one being sung to this song. (Hiding behind Kris, seeming "Blind" in the new Dark World.)

"Alone in this Mist and Glare" Noelle has various misty sorta powers and such associated with her. Nonetheless, the "Stranger in me" is the player, altering Kris's personality and actions. I don't have to say much, but I have to stress how much this song seems to allign with Kris and Noelle.

The next song takes things even further, it's about getting away with murder! (cool rhyme)

The story here is that the singer (in this case, Kris/The Player) needs the one they're singing to to provide an alibi. The alibi being that they were together, "Dancing" (Kris/The Player takes advantage of other's assumed romance between them and Noelle in the Weird Route) until midnight (The association between night and darkworlds should be clear.). Contextualizing this song within deltarune, it'd be about Kris/The Player needing Noelle to tell others that she was studying with Kris when Berdley died, and Noelle is strugling justifiyng this to herself. Listening continues with these themes. An external force has changed the singer, making them not themselves.

I think this is about Noelle, she's been too traumatized during Snowgrave that she won't listen to Kris, who's trying to get her to trust them again. Kris also feels trapped, hence the whole freedom line. The next song, "His Eyes" is eerily spot-on with Kris.

Kris acts dead. They move like a zombie whenever we aren't controlling them. They're the "School Zombie".

Things to note: Kris's eyes are important. We never see them when we inhabit Kris. We never see Kris smile either. Just a blank expression. Kris can clearly emote when not in our control, but when we're in control, they're a glassy eyed, unemotive, corpse. Everyone seems to notice something's off, but they don't know what. (In all those mysteries you're taken by suprise). The smoking gun is the eyes, Kris's eyes (or their voice?). Nobody is going to be able to put it together until Noelle notices some specific detail that'll confirm what's gone wrong with Kris.

These lines. The winter mist, ignoring their suspicions, this is Noelle, bottling up her fears, until the winter mist comes, and it's too late to look back. That winter mist being the events of Snowgrave.

Getting into prediction territory here, this is going to inspire something in chapter 3 about the weird route. If i'm right that Toby used these songs as inspiration, there's no way he didn't use the song about the shadowy figure and dreams for something.

Alright. FAST CARS.

We know that determination prevents death, we know it's stubborn and unwavering. This song fits with "Time-Loop" theory, honestly, but I don't believe timeloop theory so whatever. Anyways. This is more "Kris is dead" stuff, and the "As I'm watching you from inside my mind" stuff is very playercoded. I don't think toby actually used the fast cars are white part of the song for any inspiration.

The last song on this album is what I think inspired Dess, so strap the fuck in. DESTINATION UNKNOWN

We can assume that whatever happened to Dess happened to Gaster, and Gaster/Egg guy is commonly depicted as in the middle of nowhere. I think this song is about Dess experiencing being stuck in the middle of nowhere, and trying to reach Noelle.

The darkness matches the song, her trying to get a message out matches, ( and I think her trying to get that message out is what's responsible for alot of the Holiday's meta knowledge and game-breaking properties ), the loneliness and nothingness matches everything we know about the depths or wherever Dess is. It all lines up.

More of the song. Talking about looking for clues (That's the entire gaster thing, us looking for clues), etc etc.

I want to touch on what this implies.

It's impossible for me to be the first to propose this, but this is Dess speaking, not Spamton. He even says "It sounded like they were talking to you." Spamton's association with Noelle's search for Dess would also make him susceptible to Dess's messing with shit. Also worth noting that Spamton's eyes here are static, aka tv snow. Also in Japanese this line is straight up the same as in the source code so. Okay toby. ANYWAYS. How else has Dess been trying to reach out? And is the one speaking here...

Dess? In the source code, Dess says she hears scratching. Scratching like a cat would at a door, right? Spamton's interfaced with Catpetterz before, and if Mike is a cat then... It could've been Dess's (virtual) cat, right? And this is Spamton picking up Dess saying "Mike?" in response to hearing the cat scratching. To what extent is Dess able to fuck with reality to leave clues? When Catty and Bratty went to the beach, and played the GUITAR (We know Dess had a guitar and that there's some weird gaster shit with the beach), were they being compelled to leave a clue for Kris? Anyways I've gone on a bit of a tangent.

Pseudo Echo's next album is "Love an Adventure" which already rings some bells.

Dark Worlds are informed by their creator's will. This song demonstrates a potential dual desire for Kris opening the CH3 Dark World, wanting an adventure, but also to go into their own mind, and further looking for Dess.

PHONE MENTION Anyways, some figure is out there, the lights need to be on - due to this figure, and the singer is paranoid about their debts and phone. This is spamton after he's fallen, not wanting the phoneman (Gaster) to leave him. Also look at the lighting in the music video.

Also that is spamtons phone. Am i insane. I know its a generic platonic ideal of a phone but still.

Ok so

The song "Try" is Kris. Next song.

I'd say this could be more inspiration for the Kris possession stuff, but this contradicts the fact that Kris does not fucking like us. Maybe this was adapted into Noelle and Kris's relationship, Kris and Asriel's relationship, and The Player and Kris's relationship. I dunno. Next song

Ok so. Replace "Girl" with Gaster. Now it's Spamton singing this. Phones and shit dawg. Also "Fall to the ground". Yeah.

Living in A Dream. Now this sogn.. OH..g..

This is the formation of a dark world, it starts with a strange light, the walls expanding (because the dark worlds are bigger than the rooms they're in), etc. Also the presence of a King or a Queen. Dark worlds may inherently start out with a "Boss", something that has a "Crown" over that world, or a set of things that rule over.

Anyways, this would be yet more comparisons between dreams and the dark world.

Hmm yea, dreams ARE better than reality. Sad its just a dream. This is noelle's view of the dark worlds. She comments on how different it all is and all that. Moreso than other characters but she is generally more grounded so that tracks.

Wow. A lightless place. No souls for miles. in the OCEAN. Ohh tricky tony i knew you put that deer in the depths for a reason. you saw this song tricky tony. Heard the song i mean. I have a headache.

Last time we were analyzing "Everybody Knows" and the only lyrics i still had to point out from that before reaching the image limit were

I mean this is how Chapter 2 ended. So there's that. Anyways lets see what the next song is called. "I need some cash" oh shit

It's about a guy who wants money. Spamton! Spamton alert! idk nothing else in the song is specifically spamtoncoded or referenced in deltarune so next song. Still though.

Background singer! aside from the stuff about being overshadowed and spotlights, we can't get much from this song that can be tied back to deltarune. Man. Bit of a drought.

Next song can't be tied back to deltarune so NEXT ALBUM! It's called 4.

AND THE LYRICS ARE MISSING FUCK!!! Funk 108 says "Body. You can create." Maybe that's how Spamton Neo was devised. I dunno nothing else here matches.

Cryin' Over You has some Noelle stuff. "Pretending things didn't go sour. You're gonna do what you need to do." Yeah okay maybe some songs aren't relevant to Deltarune's development and plot. But maybe the next song has something for us?

So, throughout these songs, it seems that Chapter 2 in general has been inspired by Lipps Inc, the songs aren't inspiring individual characters, so it's okay for some lines to fit Spamton and some to fit Kris. It's okay. Anyways. It's too bright in the light. Too bright in the night. Spamton wants to escape the dark world. Also the song talks about wanting to be alone in the dark and spamton says he doesn't need friends.

The next song, On To You, is more stuff about being suspicious of someone sneaking around. We know what thats about already so after that is "Never could be sorry"

uhh stuff about trains and tracks and predeterminism. stuff about the "World is shining in my eyes" and "Nows my chance" and hearts. You can connect it but ehh. The song has TWO sick ass solos. TWO. That's fucking awesome. Go listen to it NOW. listen to never could be sorry now.

After the Instrumental "Choir Practice" (I don't need to tell you deltarune has religious symbolism in it, it's an RPG) there's the song Obsessed.

Okay that's noelle and dess maybe. Yeah i know the song is romantic but you can. you can just ignore that. maybe it's about noelle and kris. i dunno. Okay next album!!! i get that alot of these connections are probably bullshit but there are some really strong ones and all these little weak ones sort of shore up those strong ones so please PLEASE keep reading. Anyways the next song "Lets all get back to the floor" is more Noelle is suspicious of Kris stuff. Next album time. I swear i have some more concrete shit coming up. Infact...

First instinct- "Everybody knew who i was" makes this a Spamton inspiraton. WRONG! Gaster. Nobody knows him. He doesn't exist anymore. No one recognizes him.

Hit the Deck is the last song here and it doesn't really fit our analysis in any way.

The next album, and the last album, is funkyworld. It's all songs we covered before, but it was released in 1997. Interesting!

PSUEDO ECHO - DELTARUNE - AND FUNKY TOWN

PART 1 - ESTABLISHING FUNKY TOWN

Any good theory has an in, and this theory's "IN" is this song, and a single story from Toby Fox. And all it does really, is establish that he knows about Funky Town. But stick with me, please.

Toby Fox knows about Funky Town, and it's a Crayon that isn't real. Funky Town is associated with things that aren't real in Toby's mind, right?

Toby gave us a sneak peak at this song in the Deltarune OST. "My Funky Town". Okay, so there's a connection here. This obviously plays in castle town, right? And castle town isn't real, making it like the Funky Town crayon. But this isn't just a little fun reference to the song. Chapter 2 was based on Funky Town. Let's look at the song on wikipedia.

Okay, something happening in 1997 doesn't necessarily mean anything, but this isn't just 1997, it's being in the top ten in 1997, which is a more concrete reference to the line about Spamton being the number 1 rated salesman in 1997. Okay. Cool. And this is one of the first things in the song's Wikipedia page, so maybe Toby was reading wikipedia for stuff to reference, and he saw this. Maybe. Anything else?

Huh.

The members of the band wanted to move to the (Bigger) city. I mean, the song talks about it, talks about it, talks about it. Talks about- Talks about- Talks about moving! (I'm listening to the song right now sorry i mean it's a really good song) Who else would talk about moving?

Noelle's relationship with Dess IS Funky Town.

Beyond the general vibes of the song matching with Cyber World, that's all we can really get from the song for now. Say, what else has Lipps Inc done? They made the song, maybe Tricky Tony gave some of their other songs a listen, huh? Maybe they have lyrics that could give us some insight into Toby's inspirations?

PART 2 - LIPPS INC AND THE STRANGE CASE OF A BUNCH OF PHONES

Lets go song by song and analyze their lyrics for Deltarune Deltaclues and see if there's anything we might connect back to Deltarune. We can start with the first album, Mouth to Mouth, released in 1979. After Funkytown, we have the song All Night Dancing.

We can get alot out of just the Pre-Chorus. >You step into the lights, it'll take you to new heights

Spamton talks ALOT about lights and heights, reaching to the skies, the heavens, getting in the spot-light, getting burned by the spotlight (I remember hearing in Japanese he talks about seeing some sort of holy light that burned him? If someone could confirm or deny this, that'd be lovely), etc. But there's more.

>Fantasize that you're the greatest.

Spamton does this ALL THE TIME. But that's not all. Of course not. You know and I know that this is the general idea of a Dark World. The ability to fantasize about being the greatest. Hell, this lines up pretty well with how Noelle views the dark world. She's 'Dancing' with Susie in this fantasy. Not literally dancing, but doing something that fulfills the same sorta romantic connotation yknow.

Now these next lyrics are from the extended version in the 1997 Funkyworld album, but Genius still lists them as lyrics for the Mouth to Mouth version of the song so. Whatever that's not important. Here's our first reference to Phone.

MOTHERFUCKER WILL YOU BE THERE BESIDE YOUR PHONE? Self explanatory. Phone. PHONE. The singer wants to know if you'll be there to answer the phone. Spamton. That's spamton motherfucker. It was always kind of weird, why does Spamton, an internetguy, have a phone? Why did Toby give him a phone instead of saying Gaster sent him an email- considering spamton's the Email guy? The phone idea came from here, and this isn't going to be the last Phone mention.

Okay, next song! Rock It is kind of just more romance stuff that isn't too specific so we can skip it, it again talks about going all night and going to "into space to another place" but i think if i read too much into that i'll look insane so our next song is Power.

First thing's first.

Snowgrave is all about power. This next song seems... very very promising.

This song though seems to be all about Spamton, not Noelle. Sorry lesbians!

So this guy, the subject of the song, he's a big shot, he's got an audience, okay, that's vaguely spamtonny.

The phrase "Powerful people" evokes capitalistic imagery, oligarchs and shit. Not someone literally strong, but influential. A real big-shot, if you will. The "Force filled with fire" fits Spamton's dialogue as Neo about Firepower, and the "Gets them movin' in their shoes" line matches up with the Addisons selling shoes.

Why do the Addisons sell shoes? What did Toby mean by this? Is he a foot fetishist? Nah, it's because of Lipps Inc. Shoes will come up again. I mean, shoes aren't typically associated with online advertising or scams, right? You think old-internet scams and you think weird pills and get-rich quick schemes, not shoes. Shoes came from somewhere. HERE. That's why i mention shoes now, even if THIS mention is minor, I want to establish this trend so i can call back to it later. The Addison shoes thing is bizarre and Lipps Inc explains it.

Oh, Verse 3 seems to establish some very bad things about this powerful person. He takes your body, he takes your soul. Concepts Spamton and Kris are all too familiar with. Maybe Toby made Gaster fit the Powerful Person role in Spamton's arc, which was inspired by Lipps Inc, hence why Spamton's a puppet (He's a puppet, without control of his body), and then Spamton fits the Powerful Person role in Chapter 2 with Kris's arc, where Spamton tries to become god and steal Kris's soul.

Okay, that's album 1 done! onto Pucker Up, from 1980! Okay so first off.

This album art is interesting. The yellow and pink is obviously an element of note, but the concept here, the plug face, is more overtly a connection to Werewire.

I mean, come onnnn. If this is a coincidence, then God must REALLY love making people accidentally reference disco.

Anyways first song

"How long did it take her to smile?" I mean. Maybe Toby was referencing this song. But that's a stretch even for me.

Okay i mean, this is vague enough for me to think it could be about anything. Maybe Toby only looked at the How long title and only integrated that into the ARG and just left this song alone. Maybe he took it and decided "Hm maybe Noelle is suspicious of Kris's weird behavior shift?" i dunno. Next song.

We can skip Tight Pair because that song also isn't relevant to deltarune besides maybe being about Shoes.

And now, the smoking gun!

No one ever replied to Spamton, until he got a call on his TELEPHONE.

Someone out of the past? Gaster doesn't exist. He's not fucking real, not anymore. He's someone out of the past. And we know he and Spamton's relationship ended. And Spamton needs some generosity after, because he's tired of losing. TOBY. TOBY YOU FUCKER.

More more more. Not everything aligns with Spamton's backstory, but the connections are there. "No one calls my number. No one knows where I go" etc etc. Not everything has to be exact for this to have been an inspiration.

More phone stuff. "Hanging around" "Pick myself off the ground" this could be another source of making Spamton a puppet (unlike the non-puppet addisons.) The "Searching for names, now" thing ISN'T just spamton though, right?

Spamton is arguably more of a Noelle parallel than a Kris parallel, both being associated with glitches and bugs, both looking for somebody they lost, both have some connection to fear and themes of losing control and trying to regain control (Snowgrave is Noelle taking more agency and control THROUGH giving Kris control. Spamton did the same with Gaster, no? Gaster and the Player share a role in this analogy as well, right?) Anyways. Searching for names. Spamton was doing that for Noelle.

God. Anyways. That song man, it's just so Spamton it's fucking weird for it NOT to have been something Toby saw when making the character, right? Anyways ANYWAYS moving on.

Uhhh maybe The Gossip Song is about the rumors about Susie? Addison thinking Noelle is dating Kris but Kris not talking about how their relationship is? Maybe? Skip. I'm not gonna force that.

NEXT SONG: There They Are

These kids meet, and spend alot of time together, the time seems to pass faster. They vow not to part, and they explore, going DOOR TO DOOR. DARK WORLDS. ARE BEHIND DOORS.

Maybe this is Spamton? Noelle? The whole wanting to fly thing fits both, but thinking the world is jealous... actually doesn't just fit Spamton. That's how Berdley thinks of himself and Noelle.

At this point it's just scanning for keywords huh? I promise things get deeper than just me recognizing words but, i mean, King and Queen, Growing Strong, these are deltarune things. Love? Love making you strong? Levels making you strong? Ahhh i don't know maybe i'm just insane but. You see it too right?

If woody theory can use THE BIG ONE as evidence so can i.

Ok so i've been on the muppets wiki and here's all the shit i've found that might've inspired shit in deltarune

First off, the most obvious thing.

Balthazar. This is so similar to Seam design wise, I have to believe Toby saw this. It's a living toy, and it's from a christmas thing, which is obviously significant considering the Holiday's importance in Deltarune.

Next we have, arguably MORE overt, Gary Cahuenga. A Ventriloquist's Dummy who was introduced in 1997. He was forgotten and left in a box for 40 years, before he was going to guest on a TV show. The connections here are the year, the being betrayed in some form by a television-related guy, being forgotten and abandonned for years after being famous, and arguably, the fact Gary tries to jump to his death, which fits with how Spamton falls to his death from his strings. (Gary also appears in a scene where Prince talks about Angels but it's very very insignificant. He's there for a few seconds.) Now it's time for some fucking stupid bullshit you likely won't believe. The stupid bullshit that made me go down this rabbithole.

THE BLUE BLANKET For those who haven't seen it, Elmo in Grouchland is a film where Elmo has to go into Grouchland, in search of his Blue blanket which flew off and was taken into Grouchland.

It's commonly speculated that this chair from the Spamton Sweepstakes, has the Shadow Mantle on it. That means the Shadow Mantle is a blue blanket in the lightworld. Now, let's see what the Shadow Mantle does.

It flies off. But Seam finds it, (Similar to how Oscar the Grouch finds it in Elmo In Grouchland, if my memory serves me right. I watched that movie alot as a kid.) and he's about to give it to you near the end of Chapter 2. But someone seems to have taken it. Now, who could that be?

Trashy is an interesting character. He shows up no matter what you do, and people are stated to blow him off and forget him. He's so forgettable, that it's easy to see how Seam wouldn't notice him coming into the shop. Trashy is also very clearly, Muppet-like in appearance, isn't he? The style of eyes and arms, the flopping mouth, he's a Trashy Muppet. Like Oscar the Grouch. He constantly talks about storing things, why wouldn't he store the Shadow-Mantle for you? Trashy is also one of those darkners who, could feasibly, "fit" in any dark world, showing up later, like Ralsei.

Let's also think for a moment, what is Grouchland? It's a dark-world, isn't it? I mean, it's a pocket dimension and it's full of weird freaks. The entire "Shadow-Mantle" plot-line is the plot of fucking Elmo in Grouchland, trying to get this Blue Blanket back after it flies away and is taken into another world by this Trash fellow.

But we aren't done with the evidence for this fucking garbage can being relevant.

Minecrap is a reference to Minecraft with Gadget, a video by Mike Matei. I don't know how more people haven't put this together, but

Spamton is talking about fucking Mike Matei, he's giving us the clues that Mike Matei is important by mentioning Minecraft with Gadget and Mike's name. But what about Mike Matei is relevant here? What else has Mike Matei done that's particularly infamous besides Minecraft with Gadget?

Oh yeah, that. Spamton's mentions of Mike were pointing us to Elmo in Grouchland. That cements it for me. Okay, are there any more Muppet connections?

FRIENDLY Look at his fucking smile. His smile. That's Image_Friend's smile

Look at this fucking demented teddybear he gives away as a prize. Tell me that smile isn't Image_Friend's. And he's a gameshow host? And the next chapter is a TV themed chapter?

and this shit's in the same episode. a person in a cage while the bird isn't. that's how chapter 1 ends. kris puts us in a bird cage after we trapped them in yknow, being controlled and stuff.

I dunno this is a stretch but i watched that fucking cat segment and it chases a blue bird and theres kind of a yellow/pink thing going on but i genuinely think that's just a coincidence. The elmo in grouchland and balthazar shit though is 100% intentional
