Trump is cutting the biggest federal funding agency for public libraries, an absolute social pillar in the United States. In my region, this will slaughter interlibrary loan systems and affect important social programs. Now is the time to get your library card and voice your opinion. Support your local libraries!

I'm seeing a lot about "no-buy years" and the planned Feb 28 "economic blackout" and I just... have some thoughts.
All of this is great. Definitely do it. Definitely commit, as much as you can, to taking back the only power recognized by capitalism. That is, the dollars the you generate and the attention they demand.
AND
Remember that the Alabama bus boycotts lasted MORE THAN A YEAR. Remember that the French labor unions have to go on strike for WEEKS to see results. Remember that targeted boycotts are much more about making companies loose face rather than dollars, and that making noise (ie. generating media coverage) matters a great deal.
Put your usual purchases in your amazon/target cart,
abandon it,
cancel your prime membership,
then go find local stores to make your purchases at.
AND COMMIT TO MAKING THIS CHANGE PERMANENT.
This isn't about "Amazon needs to do better and then we'll give them back their money", this is about taking away Amazon's power INDEFINITELY.
Join Buy-Nothing groups and share your own resources.
Consider different solutions to problems you'd usually solve by purchasing things. (My most recent personal example is that I really needed an over-sink drying rack to keep my kid's dishes clean, but I didn't want to buy one - so I rigged something up with twine, a piece of a broken shoe rack, and some push pins).
Look to the people that capitalism has historically marginalized and harmed the most. My father-in-law (from a dirt poor Appalachian family) has a garage full of what I thought was "junk" but that man has never had to go BUY a tool, he's always got something somewhere that will do the job. Is it hording if his neighbors and family can always rely on him to let them borrow a claw hammer?
Utilize anti-cap resources - libraries, makers-spaces, repair cafes, parks.
Stop participating (as much as you can) in the economy that harms you.
Find ways to spend as LITTLE AS POSSIBLE, for AS LONG AS POSSIBLE.*
We aren't going to fix these companies, they are PART OF THE BROKEN SYSTEM.
*This doesn't apply to small businesses. Vet those people, then make sure you keep what power dollars you have circulating locally.

This will never make it in front of right-wing eyes. The government is a mystery of spending that can not be understood!
And it’s all because of trans people!
Or immigrants!
Whatever the enemy of the week is… enemy of the weak? 🤔

life has gone so crazy lately, forgot my sense of humor, so here’s information and advice for my u.s. citizens:
an executive order is not a law. you will see lists circulating of a thousand executive orders trump has made in the past week, but be aware that the constitutionality of those orders are (knowing him) limited, and people and groups are already fighting them through the courts.
immigrants, here both legally and not, are at the most imminent risk. ice raids have begun. regardless of immigration status, i highly recommend checking out immigrantjustice.org and propagating it as a resource. know your rights and the rights of your community members.
things to do:
- chose one issue you care deeply about and organize around it. i’m usually a believer in intersectionality, and it’s important not to overlook how social issues are connected, but trying to mitigate all of the abuses happening in the country right now as an individual is not possible.
- don’t tune out, but control your stream of information. limit your time online, especially if your feed is highly political. vet your news sources. you should not expect to feel normal when reading about the current administration, but avoiding all-out panic and despair is important. believing things are hopeless is self-fulfilling.
- easier said than done, but try to avoid in-fighting. trump-supporting american conservatives (more appropriately, regressives) present a far more united front than those who oppose them. this isn’t to say we should abandon controversial issues, but to focus our efforts on the greatest existing threat and not each other.
peace, love + all of the above. stay safe!

I cannot stress enough to you that all American government agencies are falling apart at the seams right now and they will not be put back together for the foreseeable future. EPA DHS ED VA FDA NIH IRS CDC HHS NPS etc... Elon Musk is dismantling everything. Anyone who resigns or is laid off now, the word we (I am an agency employee) are receiving internally is that their position will be abolished, not backfilled.
Do you like eating clean, safe food?
Do you like having clean, safe air and water?
Do you want experts monitoring developing infectious diseases?
Do you like getting tax returns?
Do you want your children to have free, quality, public education?
If so, you need to write to your senators and representatives RIGHT NOW. Trump is not obeying the rule of law. He is illegally firing all the inspectors general of these agencies (they are literally being escorted by security out of their offices) so that there is no one left to stop him from doing quite literally anything he wants. He has bypassed the internal structure of all of the agencies by plugging in external email servers to push typo-filled emails and memos written by employees of the heritage foundation directly into the inbox of every federal agency employee in the country, threatening to terminate them.
The rule of law is dead. The only mechanism left to stop any of this is mass public outcry via convincing your state's congressmen & women to do something, because right now they are staying absolutely silent and none of us in these agencies can figure out why. A massacre is happening right now and every single American will feel the material, concrete consequences of this in their daily lives very soon if nothing is done.
Please help me boost this information.

thoughts - celebrity jet travel
Taylor Swift's private jet usage is a prime example of the kind of elite consumption that's driving the climate crisis. Her reported 170 flights in a year, totaling 1,475 hours in the air, have an enormous carbon footprint.
The impact of celebrity jet travel is especially glaring because the wealthiest individuals are flying more frequently and luxuriously than ever before. This elite class is responsible for a disproportionate share of aviation emissions.
It's a reminder that the climate crisis isn't just about grand systemic changes, but also about individual luxury consumption and lifestyle choices at the highest economic levels.
When we see the behavior of rich and powerful individuals like Taylor Swift, it underscores why we need strong regulation and policy to curb emissions, rather than relying solely on voluntary changes.
The ultra-wealthy have the resources to make their lifestyles more sustainable if they chose to. But the onus can't just be on them, or on everyday individuals, to change our behaviors while corporations continue business as usual.
We need collective action and top-down solutions to reorient society towards sustainability. The lifestyle choices of celebrities may raise awareness, but they aren't a sufficient solution to the climate crisis on their own.
Instead, we need ambitious policies, like clean energy standards, carbon taxes, and regulations on wasteful forms of ultra-luxury consumption. We need collective agreement to limit the scope of private jet travel and other emissions-intensive elite behaviors.
So while it's understandable to be frustrated by the disconnect between the climate crisis and the actions of the rich and powerful, we need to focus that frustration into collective pressure for systemic change, not just on celebrity shaming.
