Tumblr has become my crutch. when I’m too depressed to move, I come here. and I see all your amazing work. and I look at the work i’ve done (none), the classwork I’ve done (not enough), everything i used to be. Am on hiatus until i do not emotionally depend on this place.

I'm trying bruh

Sorry for bringing this up again, but on the subject of UT AUs, isn't it incredibly depressing how uncreative the majority of them feel? Like, every AU is either something along the lines of "AU where everything is the same except for this purely cosmetic detail" or yet another Underswap/Storyshift copycat. It's an absolute shame too because with UT's concept of timelines there's a lot of untapped potential for actual "what if" scenarios (like say, what if Chara had never died, for example).

Yeah! Underswap is an extremely popular AU (and one of my favorites)that I even saw some cosplayers at comic con (Sans and Papy off course) and obviously due to its popularity there are going to be quite a few photo copies… I also like Ink and error Sans but it isnt really an AU its just another version of Sans (trust me they’re a loads of them even AU’s where everyone is Sans..) I believe there are to many AU’s to list but like you said a lot of them is either everything is the same but like this one detail. And there is a lot of potential for many other stuff I am a fan of many AU’s (mainly because of the character design) but yeah you got a point

Work update!

Hello! I’m @gallegart, the creator of Underswing! I know that posts have been a bit slow, and there is a reason:

I cannot post what I have been working on because I am working on the RUINS arc short story, then the script. You will still be seeing ref-sheets for anyone in the RUINS arc and lots of doodles, but you wouldn’t want to be spoiled, right? There will probably also be more Alpha stage concept sheets for characters like Alphys, Mettaton, Asgore, Grillby and Gaster. I am starting school in a couple days so things won’t be quite as constant, but I will continue my work!

Howdy! This is my Flowey Reference sheet. There’s a giant gap because I used Frisk in there to measure their differences (approx). I wanted him to have that sleazy, sneaky cartoon villain look so I gave him fernlike feet that can walk and stick to walls.

He’s definitely trustworthy and everyone should take his advice!

Next up is my Alpha design for Underswing Paps. He gets tired of Sans’s apathy and decides to leave home and become a vigilante to protect Snowdin from evil. He took a lot of inspiration from old superhero and war cartoons that made their way underground, and has a tense but amicable relationship with Undyne. He rarely even gives out his superhero name since he doesn’t want Sans to find him, but in his head, it’s Bonebreaker.

Deep down he still has good intentions and a gentle personality, but the Second turf war has changed him. I need to make some specific story changes for this design, but I’m currently still developing reference sheets for the RUINS arc.

FINALLY! The official Underswing Frisk Reference Sheet is up! (It was my first attempt and I’m v salty about that last Frisk being slightly shorter)

This is the final design for Frisk! They’re very resilient, cheerful, and Chara is always watching out for them. Yes, that stick ball bat is their main weapon, and they do use it, since the comics take an Aggressive True Pacifist route.

Muffet! Our resident Spider Queen in disguise. She’s a big baking dork and I love her. The Hotland Arc is gonna be all Muffet, I swear.

Mistakes were made. I posted this on my main and now it won’t let me delete it because Tumblr is haunted.

Up next is Empress Muffet I of the Black Widow Dynasty, ruler of the Spider clan. Well, kind of. More like the Spider Clan rules her. The expectations of her people are weighing her down.

Since the Spider Clan’s machinations are a very real threat to the underground, Asgore decided to destroy the previous Spider Queen, Penelope’s, ashes, to prevent the reincarnation of a new Queen. But spiders are a lot more resourceful than Asgore expected.

What resulted from their ritual was Muffet, a weaker than average Spider Queen with half of Penelope’s original powers and a shy, obstinate personality. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m a huge Muffet fan and she’s gonna have a lot more arc and development in Underswing than in the source material.

My poor boy Underswing!Sans is the current head of the of Clan Macadabre, and he is always tired. I based him off pictures of homeless working men during the Great Depression, and I thought it fit his description of Undertale, since he’s working every manner of job in the game. He does about the same thing here, his jobs including but not limited to:

-Sentry for the Royal Emissary Commission on request. (yes they literally have to call and tell him to work, since he refuses to outright join). His teleportation abilities, paranoia and general jumpiness make him the best sentry in the Underspanse. He used to have Papyrus to help him, but (spoilers spoilers spoilers). (don’t worrry Paps is alive in this au)

-Delivery boy for Grillby’s Soup Kitchen and Bar (every drink supports a monster in need!) He does deliver to the RUINS, but Toriel only allows him to put supplies in front of the door.

-Seneschal of Clan Macadabre’s properties, including repairs, plumbing, etc

-Emergency technician for the CORE

-When he’s not doing any of those jobs, he’s either sleepwalking or lying awake worrying about what Papyrus is doing or where he is. The stress is literally breaking him, hence the crack on his skull (remind you of anyone?). The missing tooth is from... something else.

-Despite the main comic is gonna be an aggressive pacifist run, I do intend on including a Sans Megalovania fight. Why should he trust you?

Keep in mind that a lot of the work that I am uploading was done back in March, especially the alpha stage stuff. I just don’t want to dump it all at once or I’ll be fresh out of content.

I axed Frisk’s first design after completing these doodles. I wanted to write Frisk as a smartalecky, cheerful newsboy (well, person in this case), and their original outfit and expressions didn’t match that at all. I wanted to pack Frisk’s big heart and mind into their movements and dodges, so I widened the sleeves and removed that pitiful expression from the alpha stage sheets.

There is such a nice variety of Undertale Swing and Jazz. This one is from Cement City’s Youtube account and seems to be relatively new. I dig it and I’ll probably spam it while I work on ref sheets.

My original design for Frisk was based off pictures of homeless kids in shantytowns during the Great Depression. (Yes, the SALE sign is from that famous picture of a mother in a shantytown trying to sell her children. I axed that within a week.)

I’ve reached the conclusion over time that Frisk’s design, like many of the other monsters, was just too damn bleak. The backstory of Underswing is heavy enough, and I don’t want to lose that wonder and charm that Toby has in his original product. So a more accurate picture of Frisk would be in the doodle post I uploaded today.
