AN UPDATE ON WHERE WE'VE BEEN

Hello! It's been a while. Back in December of 2022, we posted a teaser at that year's Underevent for a reboot of the series, animated and posted on YouTube. It's June of 2025, and you might have noticed our lack of updates since. We will be entirely honest with you: We were not prepared enough, and showed our cards too early. We had a burst of motivation from our original hiatus and wanted to push the series with our new skills to a bigger audience- but we weren't equipped for what that would entail.

Our motivation quickly waned as we entered the busiest time of our lives, going from teenagers making an Undertale comic to full blown adults with jobs and responsibilities, and this ended up leaving the Undertoad series with much less progress on it than it really should. There's no excuse, It's our bad. However, within the past few months, I believe we're finally ready to get the train going again. I will not make any solid promises, as quite honestly we don't have the best track record with those, but we wanted to give you something.

If you've read this far, congratulations! Tomorrow, we'll be releasing a form to apply to join our team. Once again, we want to sincerely apologize for the lack of communication. Thank you for reading!

@undertoad-au​ is hands-down one of my favorite comic projects of all time. It’s so much more than just Undertale-with-mario-characters – it’s a story with a life and flavor all its own. It expands on the mario cast in such brilliant ways, with clever writing and great spritework, and it’s all accompanied by an amazing soundtrack (that i frequently listen to while drawing). It’s packed to the brim with references and nods to all corners of the Mario franchise - especially the paper mario and M&L series - and the sheer amount of love poured into it really shows.

Unfortunately, it seems as if it’s been plagued by bad reception and an overall lack of understanding at every turn. When @star-gazer-88​ and I heard the comic is going on an indefinite hiatus, we were heartbroken (Star even cried a little, haha). Not because the comic was being shelved, but because of the circumstances that have been pushing the team to its breaking point. I’m sure any sad feelings we have at this pale in comparison to what the team must be going through.

If you’re a fan of Undertoad, I’d recommend following its team as they enter a new chapter of their journeys as creators. Their work is great, and I have no doubt they’ll cook up some amazing things.

If you’re a fan of Undertale, Paper Mario and the Mario and Luigi series… you NEED to read Undertoad by @undertoad-au​ . Their take on the story and portrayal of the characters is top-notch. It’s a truly refreshing take on both the Mario and Undertale franchises with so many references to so many games.

As a huge Paper Mario nerd, reading it was a dream come true. If you’re anything like me, do yourself a favor and give it a go!

It's only in English. Isn't the comic in Spanish?

The comic does not currently have any foreign-language translations, as our only bilingual team member has a fully packed schedule. If someone would be willing to translate the comic into another language for us, we can be reached through our discord server. Otherwise, we don’t have a lot of options.
