On the one hand this reminds me of an obsessive housewife dithering over paint swatches at the local home improvement store trying to decide just WHAT shade of white her husband needs to paint the walls of their new home. On the hand, as an artist, I feel this great vindication that THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THESE COLORS THAT ALL LOOK THE SAME TO YOU OTHER PEOPLE!!! I am NOT insane for spending “too much time” tweaking art to get the colors just right. I feel both of these things at the same time: laughing at people like myself who obsess over tiny differences in color that probably don’t matter but they matter to US. I am ridiculous for caring, I am beautiful for caring.

I want to see it in person. The museum guard would edge over closer to me because I would be leaning in to look at all the details, getting closer than you’re really supposed to get even though they don’t actually use velvet ropes anymore. There’s still a distance. And I would be just barely crossing that distance.

Parents think it's a sin for their children to disobey them. Parents think it's okay to assault their children in order to instill the fear of God in them.
