Sam Riley ships maleval
Honestly this interview has gave me hope that he'd fight for endgame Maleval if there were to be a Maleficent 3.
He felt the need to point it out twice that Diaval is so in love with his Mistress
Honestly though I find it so sweet that he knows that his character doesn't see Maleficent like the others might.
Diaval knows Maleficent may be prone to blow a fuse at times but will eventually calm down, so he understands why she was so hostile in the first movie— she had been hurt.
She wasn't always an "evil" fae.
He sees the good in her.
Even if the others don't.
In hindsight he gladly became Maleficent's wings because he had seen the pain she was in–

He took it upon himself to defend her reputation and honor that had been damaged by King Stefan to make sure it'll never happen again. While doing so it had caused him to fall in love with her as the time went on— seeing that she's not this big, scary, intimidating person she tries to make herself out to be.
But rather a broken soul with little faith left in humanity because of the pain they had caused her, which he's determined to help fix.
He's willing to fight for her till his last breath, not out of service, or fear— but love
Diaval's slight nod and smile upon hearing Maleficent's request to bring them to her.
Diaval following Maleficent into the castle, knowing fully well there'd be a chance they could die.
Diaval guarding himself over Maleficent to make sure nobody touches her.
This right here. His complete look of awe and utter adoration for both Maleficent and Aurora is all I need to believe.
Somewhere along the way he came to the conclusion that Maleficent and Aurora is all he'll ever need in life to be happy. He's content with the life he has now because of the two, he wouldn't want it any other way.
So fuck the cat.

Now compare this to a scene from the draft script of the first Maleficent movie—
Maleficent: Diaval? Diaval!
She pounds on his chest. He gasps suddenly, and gulps for air. Maleficent leans back, more relieved than she ever thought she'd be . Diaval sits up.
Maleficent: I thought I'd lost you.
But this is too revealing.
Maleficent: then what would I do for wings?
Diaval covers his disappointment at her cavalier attatude.
So now in the second movie we get a scene where Maleficent actually tells Diaval she's missed him, and his shocked expression tells me this is the first time she's ever told him anything like that, she's being open and honest about her feelings. I smell even more character development 👀
I hope they keep the possible Maleval scenes in this time around, unlike the first.

Can we appreciate Maleficent trying to make a good impression for Aurora's sake, Diaval is teaching her how give a friendly smile, I'm guessing this scene takes places before she meets the in-laws.

Take a moment
Diaval is meeting the future in-laws in his human form, not in his natural bird state, as he was when he first met King Stefan.
Diaval is seen standing side-by-side with Maleficent the entire way. Showing he's an equal, and played just as much of a part of raising Aurora as Maleficent did, if not more.
It goes to show that he shouldn't be dismissed as just 'some bird' but rather seen as a parental guardian just the same as Maleficent.

Maleficent's headdress has a raven skull on it, seems she's become quite smitten with the bird thanks to Diaval.
Diaval has a green tint to the feathers on this shoulder, possibly to coordinate with Maleficent's green aura and staff
We love a couple that coordinates their outfits

Can we just appreciate the lil concerned body movement Diaval does when he thinks Maleficent is actually upset
