Day 4 out of 100 Days of Productivity //
I’m sorry for missing yesterday’s post! I promise I was actually being productive, but there was nothing to take a picture of: my day was mostly calling companies that have ghosted my job applications...
Right now I’m on that Stuvia notes sale grind before the start of the uni year! I’m mostly focusing on AP US History, because I know that’s in super high demand for lots of high school juniors and seniors ✨

Day 3 out of 100 Days of Productivity //
Credit to @themathsstudent for creating this tag! ✨
I’ve had a much better day today than I had yesterday, but I haven’t got around to doing much because of the Cricket World Cup final. I woke up super early to watch it, and tonight we celebrate because England won a World Cup for the first time in my lifetime!🙌
Now on to the Men’s European Championship in 2020 all across Europe, and the Women’s European Championship in 2021 (where England have the home advantage!) #BeReady

realistic tips for uni students
i’ve seen many tips for university students fly around here and i’ve noticed that some of them are either unrealistic or not necessary at all (take it from someone who has been studying 3 years already) so here are some real tips to help you
BUY. A. BACKPACK. i’ve made the same mistake and my back is in s h a m b l e s. and honestly, you don’t need an expensive one, but be sure to check if your backpack has a laptop compartment in case you bring a laptop a to class. i know it looks unflattering as hell but trust me your back will thank you for it.
You don’t need expensive stationary. any pen or notebook will do but make sure you bring enough pens to classes, exams, etc because you don’t want to sit there panicking because your pen gave out.
on the topic of stationary ALWAYS KEEP A NOTEBOOK IN YOUR BAG what if your laptop dies? what if you want to make a reminder to yourself that you will forget about 5 minutes later? just keep a small notebook in your backpack in case you need it.
Always bring food and water! i’m particularly bad at this, not gonna lie, but especially when it’s summer and hot as hell this tip is incredibly important or you will most likely feel awful. i’m not a big breakfast eater myself because i get stomach issues from it but i make sure to bring something for either on my way to class, just before class, or during the break you might have in class.
For those of you who menstruate: keep tampons/pads in your bag. you’re friends will thank you for it as well!
Moving on from backpack arrangements: pro-tip you don’t have to be bff’s with you teachers, especially not in your first year. later when you’re writing your dissertation, it’s can be helpful, but honestly they most likely won’t remember you in your first year and they will also most likely not grade your papers/tests either so no need to suck up
on the topic of teacher: you don’t have to attend every single office hour. if you have a question, please go, but otherwise you’re wasting your damn time
wait until your first lecture/seminar before buying books your professor will most likely say please buy this or this is optional. don’t waste money!
read the damn syllabus not just so that you know what to do before class, but also so that you know what to do in case you fall ill and what the attendance expectancy is (some professors have a 80% attendance or you will fail and others don’t give a shit)
don’t sign up for 9 am classes you won’t go okay? it seems fun at the beginning but you’re gonna end up dreading that class even though it would’ve been interesting if you were awake enough to take it in
procrastination is normal everybody does it and guess what? YOU DON’T NEED TO GET ALL A’S!!!! strive for it? great! but work yourself until you’re crying from the stress and thinking about dropping out because you can’t handle it? not so great!
mental health is more important than that 4.0 GPA speaks for itself but also if there is something going on please talk to your student advisor or tutor! you can better warn them in advance than try to build a case after you flunked that assignment/exam
try to make friends honestly it will make your uni experience so much nicer. and i get social anxiety, but at least try to get on friendly terms with people so you have notes when you’re sick, a partner when there is group work to be done, and just a friendly face when it’s all too much!
wear comfortable clothes yes i get the need to look cute but honestly when you’re freezing in your lecture hall because you wanted to wear that one top, you’re gonna be mad at yourself. also bring a jacket/scarf to put over yourself when you know a lecture hall/classroom is cold as hell it helps, trust me.
have fun sounds cliche but sign up for that one class that has absolutely nothing to do with your major but it looks fun, go out partying with your new buddies and stay up later than you should, it’s okay. nobody is all study all the time and you get to enjoy yourself. just find something fun in everything you learn even if you f-ing despise that one course because it will help you get through these years!

Yay! Hopefully you get to call that campus your home! Good luck with the application process❤️

Yesterday was so amazing! The only negative I could possibly think to say was that it was a little too hot for my liking. Other than that, everything else was terrific! Getting to walk around my dream school was almost unreal; I would absolutely love calling this campus my home once I graduate!

🎒Backpacks 101🌻
Essentials for Class
Your laptop/spirals/tablet/your preferred note-taking medium. For professors that speak quickly and cover a lot of information in a short amount of time before moving on to the next slide, I always like to use my laptop. Some professors prohibit the use of laptops (even for note-taking). So, I like to use a cheap spiral for class in which I will write information/graphics with the knowledge that they don’t have to be perfect. This is just to ensure that I get the information down. When I get home I transfer all of the notes into a nicer spiral to look over later. This also works to help me retain the information!
My all-time favorite spiral notebooks are the Exceed Five Subject Notebooks. I love these because in the front they have a world map, a punctuation chart, a metric unit conversion chart, spelling rules, a ruler, and a glossary of general reference and research sites.
Loose-leaf paper. This is especially helpful for me because many of my professors will give pop-quizzes/pop-writing assignments. Also great for when a classmate needs to borrow some paper. You can whip it out and make a friend for all semester.
Personally, I like to use Five Star Reinforced Filler Paper by Mead.
Pencil Bag. Naturally, not having to frantically dig around your backpack for a pen/pencil/highlighter makes your day go so much smoother.
I prefer the Mead Five Star Organizer Pencil Pouch.
My pencil bag comes complete with an assortment of pens, pencils, highlighters, two flash drives, a pencil sharpener, and an entire 50 pack of Crayola Super Tips. Yes, my pencil bag fits that much.
Laptop charger & phone charger. I recommend purchasing a powerblock as well to ensure that you don’t have to compete over the use of limited outlets. Thousands of college students across the nation fail to charge their electronics nightly, don’t get caught in the crossfires of that feeding frenzy.
Headphones. Something about not having my music while I’m on the bus or walking across campus really kills my mood for the day.
My planner! Stop writing stuff on your hand or on random pieces of paper. Get yourself a cheap planner. Even if you are not a planner user right now, just forcing yourself to use one for 30 days will forge an unbreakable and life-changing habit! Take it from me.
To Make Your Day Easier
A small umbrella for those days when the weather goes from 75′ and sunny to raining cats and dogs in 3 seconds.
A wallet with your IDs and change. I always kick myself when I didn’t have enough change for the vending machines on campus. I kick myself even harder when I have to ask random strangers for 50 cents to buy a scantron/blue book. Also just a good idea to always have some form of ID on you.
Water bottle. Invest in a super cool, trendy, refillable water bottle to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. Or just keep refilling the same plastic one.
Deodorant. This is so silly but I am always forgetting to put on deodorant before I walk out the door and I’m 22. When I get to class I realize I’ve forgotten and panic as the Texas heat encompasses me. Travel-sized deodorants are so beneficial.
An emergency tampon/pad. Or two!!! Goes without saying. Surprises are always fun until it’s your period. I keep emergency tampons in my truck, in my apron for work, in my backpack, in my horse trailer. I do not play around.
Ibuprofen/Aspirin
Light snacks. We’re talking a granola bar or seven to keep your stomach from gurgling when you’re taking that exam and of course everyone showed up to class.
A flashdrive.
Chapstick, sunscreen, or lotion can also make you more comfortable sitting in class.
Quick Tips About Backpacks
While, yes, those little fashionable ones are cute, they don’t hold the essentials and can be damaging to your back, causing soreness and discomfort. Buying a Jansport absolutely saved my back and stopped my chronic pain from progressing!
Obviously there are hundreds of amazing brands of backpacks out there, but I strongly urge you to purchase a bag with:
a sleeve inside for your laptop
at least three pockets - so everything has a place
those little mesh side pockets
adjustable (preferably PADDED) shoulder straps!
Another thing! I always place my heavier items (laptop & textbooks) CLOSEST to my back. That way the weight doesn’t drag you down backwards and cause back pain (my doctor literally told me this). This is where having multiple pockets is so helpful.
Adjust your shoulder straps so that you can also maintain good posture while walking. The weight of your backpack + where it sits on your back should not cause you to lean forward or sway backwards in order to compensate. Also fun fact - when I was in middle school I thought it was cool to have a backpack that hung really low (?) and it created a pinched nerve in my neck! Awesome! Don’t be like me!
Remember that backpacks -while they can absolutely be super cute and trendy- are meant to possess functionality. Your backpack should carry the essentials you need to have a successful and comfortable day at class.
Lastly, 10/10 would recommend cleaning out your backpack frequently! Make sure it stays organized and free of clutter. I also like to make sure I take all of my spirals and planner out of my backpack each day after class so that after I rest for a bit - I know I have things I need to get to.
Organizing Your Backpack - By Pockets
-Largest pocket (closest to your back):
Heavier items such as your laptop, binders, textbooks, loose leaf paper and planner. Laptop should go inside the sleeve (if applicable).
-Second largest pocket
Items such as your pencil bag, chargers, and umbrella.
-Smallest pocket
Items that you won’t be pulling in and out too frequently, such as headphones, deodorant, chapstick, a flashdrive, snacks, wallet, keys, painkillers, and your emergency tampons (if applicable).
-Side pockets
Here I obviously like to keep my water bottle or coffee thermos. If you have more than one pocket this is also a great place to keep your little umbrella.
Happy studying, realistic students!

Day 2 out of 100 days of Productivity //
I’m not going to lie, today has been one of the worst days I’ve had for a long time. All in all, I don’t know how I’m going to pay for university and I’m scared for the future. Any advice on that matter of paying for uni would be greatly appreciated.
All of that aside...
I decided to re-write some of my AP U.S. History notes from last year to make them neater, so I can put them on Stuvia! I got so much nostalgia looking through them again.
My Stuvia is @janeavery00 so if you’re ever in need of notes go check it out :) I took a huge variety of classes in high school (and a whole lot more in university too), so there’s a lot over there! ❤️

How I Deal with Stress
I can get quite stressed when it’s about school or something really important to me. And probably most of you get stressed too. It’s completely normal and it shows that you care about what you’re doing.
I usually get stressed when I have loads of things to do or when I have a big project like a final assignment, so here are the things that help me deal with my stress.
For the first situation what usually works for me is planning. Planning helps me make sure I have time for everything and even if I don’t end up following that schedule exactly, it calms me down. What I usually do is, first, in my calendar (I use Google Calendar so that I can access it from my phone and my laptop), set up the due dates or deadlines for the different assignments I have.
Then, on my bullet journal (you can also use a random piece of paper for this) I write down all of the things I have to do (I usually do it on my weekly to-do list). I do this so that I can see in one place all of the tasks I need to finish. Also, by doing this, I can have an idea of when I’m going to do each thing so that I have enough time for everything.
I also have a daily to-do list, but I like setting this up on the same day. Remember to not overload your day with tasks! You only have so much time and it’s impossible for you to do every single thing, and that’s okay. As long as you organize and don’t waste your time, you will be fine, so don’t worry! I really struggle with this though, for some reason I think I’m Wonder Woman or something and I write down on my to-do list 100 tasks and I only end up doing like 3 or 4. Not good, because then I feel like crap for not doing what I wanted to do.
For when I have a big project to do that it’s due in like a month, I usually get stressed because I’m scared I’m going to procrastinate and do everything the last week. I also get scared to do it really early because what if the teachers gives some advice during the month? (My science teacher did this EVERY TIME we had a project and literally a day before the due date he would tell us something really important like “oh, by the way, you need to type it”. Like, seriously?! I already did the whole thing).
So, what I do is planning, yes, again. Planning calms me down, okay? Sometimes I give the project its own calendar on my bullet journal. For example, I did this for final exams: (I know it’s technically not a project but it’s one of the most recent things I did)

I basically just write down the deadline there and then I write down when I’m going to work on it and what I’m going to do each day.
To do that, first, I write down all the tasks regarding the project. Like, every single task. Even the least important thing. This is so that I have an idea of how much work I have to do. I sometimes categorize the tasks, for example:

And the list can be even longer. Basically, it’s important that you know all the tasks you need to complete to do your project.
In the calendar, if the list of tasks is too long, I don’t specify what tasks I’m going to do each day, I just put that the x week or x number of days I’m going to work on x category.
So, basically planning is the solution to everything, at least in my case (lol). But it truly makes me feel like I have everything under control, which is, most of the time, not true, but you know, fake it ‘til you make it ;).

You’re studying really cool stuff: good luck with that and all you’re doing to establish yourself in the writing community etc! Hopefully all goes well❤️
New Studyblr!
Hey-ya! I’ve had this blog for a bit and I haven’t known what to do with it, and I think I’m going to make it into a studyblr! I was part of the community years ago, but drifted away from it.
I’m currently in a Master’s program studying Environmental writing, and my background degrees are in Creative Writing and Geology. I’m also working on establishing a geology channel on youtube and establishing myself in the writing world.
So this blog might be a bit different that the typical studyblr blog (read: my old studyblr), since a lot of what I’ll be working on and posting will be related more to those writing/geology projects than the classes for my master’s degree. (Though, obviously there’s overlap!)
I’m very excited to get started with this blog, and my hope is that it’ll help me be a little more focused/excited/disciplined with my projects, while still managing my mental health in a positive and sustainable way.
Here’s to coming back to the community!

That’s awesome! I took the ACT last year, and I remember the timing being so stressful haha, so it’s great that you finished. Good luck getting your scores back, and the next time you take it! ❤️
Taking the ACT
Today I took the ACT! It was kinda long and I got tired towards the end, but I think it went well. I finished all the sections with at least five minutes to spare and had time to check my answers. The english and reading were fairly easy, and the math and science were where I expected them to be. As this is my first time taking the ACT and due to the fact that I haven't taken Algebra II yet, I don't expect to make more than a 26. I took it this time to get a feel for the formatting and timing of the test.
