Plague-y bio images
After some requests I’ve decided to publicly release these little images I’ve been using in lore baby bios. They’re quite useful to pretty up a Plague dragon’s profile. Or just use them as a little placeholder.
Free to use! No credit needed. Just don’t claim them as your own or edit them.

A more realistic approach to the map of Sornieth
Here we go! I’ve been working on this with @antimoany and @errantmoggy (and some input from everyone in the FR IRC) for the last week or so. I proudly present to you: Sornieth, with less Escher and more mountains!
Full sizes as well as .psd and .mdp files available here!
Description: An attempt at making a more realistic map of Sornieth. Assuming a planet with similar temperatures as Earth, 1.5x the size. Some regions were moved around to better match their climate, mountains were added/reshaped to better follow the climate, etc.
This map is free for use! The link includes the .mdp and .psd files for a reason. I encourage people to modify them to their liking, add the location of their clan (and allies?) to it, draw train or trade routes on it, anything. I only ask that you link back to either this post or the sta.sh link if you use it.
Some general notes:
The flight regions names are not on the map because of space constrains. I think they should be relatively evident, though.
Some regions have subregions that are also not named. More on this under the cut.
Fire’s landscape is ever-changing. The lakes pictured are permanent lava lakes, but there are also constantly shifting rivers and craters that are not depicted, especially in the Molten Scar.
Cloudsong is not depicted because it is not a stationary landmark.
Similarly, Arcane has a few floating islands which are not depicted.
More design notes under the cut.

guardian charge ideas
-a pleasingly round, very smooth pebble -an endangered species. tHE WHOLE THING -concepts. I could go on and on. I love the idea of guardians protecting concepts and ideas. Also philosophies, techniques, music- anything that can be taught. Guardians have to spread that knowledge to protect it from falling into obscurity. -a very short-lived animal or anything else very very impermanent. Does the guardian take another charge when the animal passes on or is it like “whelp I served my charge time my life is my own now” or do they spend the rest of their life mourning this ephemeral thing. -A star. Very concerning for guardians who do not actually understand astronomy. also like there’s nothing they can do to protect it so they just stare intently at it a lot when its visible. -PATENT LAWYER GUARDIAN WILL PROTECT ALL PATENTS. On a more serious note though this kinda goes along with concept guardians if they’re protecting artist integrity and going after counterfeiters -now my narratives don’t really have anything much to do with the sacredness of virginity cause I don’t buy it, but can you just imagine how obnoxious a guardian protecting a specific person’s “”””””””chastity””””””””” would be. like imagine someone comes along like “my life is dedicated to making sure you don’t get any.”

One of the things I always found annoying was that the Beastclan articles don’t actually list all the members of the clan within them. I wanted to see all of them at once, and so I made this really extensive guide. It includes all items that refer to or expand the lore of the beastclans, all affiliated species, territory maps, and all of the coded message items decoded. I am 100% sure I have left things out, so if you think something should be included in this guide please let me know either via ask or PM on FR.
I would also like help trawling through Aequorin’s Q&A to find answers that are relevant to these topics! I’ll probably add a space for expanded lore like that on each page.

Kinda random, but; Flight Gods + Laughter!
Earthshaker: Not really one for laughing, but on the INCREDIBLY rare occasion that he does, it sounds more like a tired wheeze than a laugh.
Flamecaller: A dry, harsh-sounding cackle. Most of her humor consists of sharp, snarky jabs.
Windsinger: Has a good sense of humor and LOVES to laugh. Very light and kinda giggly.
Tidelord: Also not one for laughing much, the most you’ll get outta him is an amused hum.
Shadowbinder: MENACING HYENA LAUGH
Icewarden: It’s nearly impossible to make this guy laugh. It’s not that he lacks a sense of humor, he’s just not very expressive. Most of the time, you’re lucky enough just getting a tiny smirk out of him.
Stormcatcher: LOUD, BOOMING THUNDER LAUGH not that you ever hear it because he’s a super-serious stick-in-the-mud most of the time.
Lightweaver: The most adorable, sparkly little giggle you will ever hear.
Gladekeeper: A quiet chuckle that’s also kinda snooty.
Plaguebringer: Loud, wet, and raspy, sounding more like a coughing fit than a laugh.
Arcanist: Has the most sunny and infectious laugh out of all the gods.

Dragons By Weight
Inspired by this post, weight data taken from here.
Looking purely at the weight (in most cases), here is how the dragons of Sorieth stack up against the animals of Earth. I tried to find animals that at least kinda look like their dragon, but eventually, they just got so big. I was surprised at how close in weight Imps are to Ridgebacks
Fae - ~4 ft wing span, 4 lbs - big Hyacinth macaw
Spiral- 11 ft long, 185lbs - Amethystine (scrub) python
Tundra- 635lbs - elk
Pearlcatcher - 1135 lbs - american paint horse
Wildclaw - 1200 lbs - giraffe
Mirror - 1250lbs - polar bear
Skydancer - 1400 lbs - Ayrshire cattle

Coatl - 1950lbs - saltwater crocodile
Snapper - 14,000 lbs - big male African Bush Elephant
Ridgeback - 16,750 lbs - southern bottlenose whale
Imp - 16,875 lbs - northern bottlenose whale
Guardian - 21,250 lbs - Baird’s Beaked Whale

Excepting when a Flight is in dominance, there are 15 gathering turns in a day. If each click is “a hard day of” whatever gathering activity, then we can assume that 1 IRL day equates to 15 days on Sornieth.
My dragon who was hatched on May 29, 2015 is now almost 12 years old.
The 7 months I spent in Plague was 9 years for my clan.
A 5-day incubation period is actually 75 days.
A tundra’s breeding cooldown lasts 7½ months.
Handy tool for calculating time between dates: http://www.timeanddate.com/date/durationresult.html?

Sorniethain Languages and Their Dialects.
A bit of Language talk with @mort-fr got me thinking about languages again. One thing lead to another and now we have this. No cut because those are for losers.
God Tongue - The language spoken by the first eight before the advent of dragons. Mortals can understand but cannot speak it.
Lesser God Tongue - Without the first eight in attendance, the third age deities invented this language to speak with each other. Despite the name it is no less powerful than its predecessor although it has been replaced by the more common deity speak in modern times.
Early Draconic - When Windsinger made the first dragons, this dialect of God Tongue arose from the dragon’s inability to replicate their father’s words.
Common Draconic - Ever talkative, even in their earliest days, the wind dragons grew their odd dialect into a full blown language of its own. Their travelers nature spread it far and wide across the continent, snuffing out the fledgling tongues of their neighbors.
Inland and Outland Draconic - The new draconic spread over the continent, morphing and changing as it was introduced to new parties. The ever changing dialect the wind dragons spread over the central regions of Sornieth became known as inland draconic.
Meanwhile the farther reaches, Dragonhome and the Southern Ice field in particular, maintained the first form to which they were introduced, proclaiming that the original configuration was the purest. This archaic sounding dialect became known as outland draconic.
Beastkin Common - At the rise of the unified beastclans, a new language was compiled by scholars from the most common third age tongues and taught first to military personnel and then to civilians so that all could understand each other regardless of their species. The beastkin common push all but eradicated its parent languages within a decade.
Vouren - The language used by water flight seers. When underwater, Vouren sounds almost exactly like Outland Draconic. When heard through air, however, it is an entirely different language.
Sky Speak - A trading language made by Wind Flight merchants in more recent days to keep agreements confidential. Its fast, lyrical cadence requires an inordinate amount of breath to execute properly.
Coatl - Nonsense. Complete gibberish nothing.
Drakish - This cryptic tongue continues to baffle linguists as it shows no relation to draconic in any way. Pockets of speakers exist throughout Sornieth with a slight concentration in the tangled wood and the scarred wasteland. Drakish runes have been found in both the Mirrorlight Promenade and the Forum of the Obscured Crescent, leading some to believe that it predates dragons themselves.
