Nicholas Zverev, (1888-1965) a Russian dancer who joined Ballets Russes in 1912 and for the first four years was just one of the dancers, looked like Vaslav Nijinsky and sometimes danced in place of the great star, even though Nijinsky's name appeared on the program. Zverev stayed with the company until 1926. From 1930 to 1936 Zverev was the director of the Ballet of the Opera of Kaunas, but in 1936 he assisted in the reorganization of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. He remained with them as a character dancer and ballet master until 1945. Later he became a professor in several countries: Belgium, Switzerland, and France; and was also ballet master of the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires from 1957-1960. Nicolas Zverev died in June 1965.
