What do the Qs stand for in the context of Thai gls? I thought it was quarter, but my theory fell immediately when I saw numbers bigger than 4 😅

Very good question! We've all been there, new fans, wondering wtf Q means.

There are some neat explanations that people put out there, including the history of why it's called Q and stuff, but frankly I cannot remember all of it, and in the end it boils down to a "Q" is (generally) a day of filming.

Fans of Thai shows like to keep track of the Qs because it gives you an indication to how close it is to finish and therefore releasing. Also number of Qs usually tells you something about the quality of the production. Most shows, I have found, have between 2.5 (cheapish) to 3.5 (expensive) Qs per episode. For example, the next prince has 14 episodes and they have 65Q and counting (VERY expensive). My Sweetheart Jom had 37 for 12 episodes and The Loyal Pin 55Q for 16.

Usually, the moment that a show announces their last Q or that they have finished filming we are expecting it to air soon. Although sometimes it takes a long time until the show releases because they spend a lot of time in post-production or maybe scheduling issues. Other times a show may start airing while it's still filming and this may result in choppy editing (Love Senior comes to mind, although US came out ok).

Fun Story to Share.

I got my (now 18-year-old) daughter into Ao3 back in 2021. I taught her she should always comment - even if the fic looks old or abandoned or whatever. She did.

Well - she got this email this morning:

The fic was written in 2014 and essentially abandoned.

Bethy read and reviewed in 2021 (and was actually the only person who had commented at all).

Today in 2025 - the final chapter was posted by the author and this was her reply to Bethy’s comment.
